We have been coming to Sintra pretty much since the day it opened. Good service and good food kept us coming back. It was a place you could depend on to serve you great food. We always treated the place with respect because we loved it. It reminded us of that favorite family member you could always depend on to be there for you. We now bid farewell to it as it has wronged us. We have no idea what we did to cause it but we are not going to ask and we are not going to fight it. Its not worth it. We will not stay where we are not wanted. So now I must change my 5 star review of this place to a 1 star. Our visit started out as usual. We came in, took at table and went up to order our food. Just like we have done hundreds of times before. But as I was waiting at the table one of the employees came up and told me that we could not have a table. I looked at her in surprise and then turned to my sister, who was standing by the counter waiting to order food, and said "It sounds like they are kicking us out" then I turned to the employee and said "Is that what you are doing? Kicking us out?" She hesitated and then said "Yes I am". Because my sister and I both have PTSD we didnt fight it. We just left feeling numb and dumbfounded. We walked down the sidewalk looking for another place to eat and came across JDub. We ate there. The food was great. I was still in shock about the whole thing when we returned to our car, which was still parked in the disabled zone (Yes I have a Disabled placard) in front of Sintra. But I felt a little less like we had been targets when, as I was getting into the drivers seat, two women came out of Sintra's with astonished looked on their faces and one turned to the other and said "How rude!" Such a same. I will miss this place. But we cannot look at it in the same way ever again. read more

I've been coming to Sinatra for years. I have always enjoyed their food and atmosphere. Their staff have always been friendly to me. However, all it takes is one bad experience to never come to a restaurant again. Today was that day. We waited an hour for our food. Food was delicious, but service was seriously lacking. Unfriendly staff who was standing around chatting rather than checking on tables. A server left receipts directly next to the kids crayons and coloring books, so my daughter in kindergarten grabbed papers thinking it was scratch paper, and the server snapped at her, making her cry, then chatting with the staff about it, making us feel incredibly uncomfortable after we apologized for our young daughter's simple mistake. Perhaps receipts should not be left out by coloring stuff in a basket. I never leave bad reviews but this was very disappointing and left a 5 year old crying, dirty looks, and seriously unprofessional behavior. This is not how customers should be treated. Great place! I wandered in with my two friends while on a road trip, unfortunately it was 15 minutes before closing. Instead of turning us away the staff offered to make our orders to go orders. While waiting we were offered free coffee followed by given free delicious bowls of tomato soup. After a long day of travel those bowls of soup were welcomed with a smile. I can not say enough good things about this place. I wish we had more time to spend in Bend so we could have gone back to enjoy the ambiance of this place. Well done! Wow Impressive!! I came here with a few coworkers for lunch this week and we had a great time and an excellent meal. We were completely impressed by the food - it was delicious. The lunch special of 1/2 salad and 1/2 sandwich was perfect for lunch and just $12. The ingredients were fresh and the food combinations for the various salads and sandwiches were delicious. I have heard that their dinners are great too, can't wait to come back and try that too. I have lived in Bend for 12 years and Cafe Sintra is my absolute favorite place for breakfast. Warm, inviting European cafe with great coffee, pastries, breakfast and lunch. Awesome benedicts, french toast, scrambles, and daily specials like huevos rancheros and breakfast burritos. They have a Portuguese sausage there called Linguica that is super yummy! They also serve the BEST Bloody Mary in town.....blowing all others out of the water. Awesome homemade soups, salads and sandwiches for lunch-the Rustica is my favorite sandwich. I've wanted to try this place for awhile and finally made it in for lunch. I had a mimosa which was dissapointingly small. Maybe I'm spoiled with the man-sized mimosas at the Victorian Cafe, but in any case, being that it's half OJ i think it deserve a pint glass! I then ordered the Huevos Rancheros which was served on corn tortillas, with black bean puree, a nice spicy salsa, cotija, eggs cooked how you like, and with a side of Sintra potatoes. The dish was good, not the best I've had, but certainly far from the worst. The whole meal was satisfying and those potatoes were wonderful, I shared them and the others at my table agreed. My friend ordered a fruit crepe and said she wishes she could've picked a different fruit. It was also very runny inside. I thought this was delectable as I'm very partial to sweet creamy mushy textures but she found it offputting. Her boyfriend had the salmon pizzata, ate the entire thing and declared it excellent. So all in all "Yay! I'm a fan" is certainly true and I'll be back again. read more

Wow! What a disapointment! I visited here with a friend a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed the Chicken Salad and couldn't wait to have it again. I ordered it to go today and was shocked at how bad it was. The chicken was extremely dry and very few condiments were added ( walnuts and grapes). It was literally inedible! I've eaten at all Bend's best breakfast spots for over a decade now and this is my favorite. If you're looking for massive portions of trucker cuisine then disregard, but if you want well-integrated flavors and reasonable portions, this is it. We were in town visiting from Portland. And maybe that's the problem. Living in p-town we are very spoiled when it comes to food. I got the veggie omelette special which was ok. The peppers and mushrooms were cooked well but all the cheese was at one end so half the bites only had cheese and the others had none. It was supposed to be accompanied by home fries. When the plate came there were exactly 6 potato pieces. For nearly 9 bucks (yikes!!!!) I felt ripped off. The coffee was ok but nothing special or even notable especially for a place that calls it's self a cafe. One friend got scrambled eggs and a side of potatoes which he liked but was shocked that it cost him $7. The other friend got the oatmeal and said it was quite good, however the 'side of fruit' that came with it was just a plate of banana slices. Again for the high price it was really disappointing. Maybe Bend is just ridiculously expensive when it comes to eating out so my expectations are out of whack, but for the same high prices I suspect there are places with better food and better coffee. My boyfriend and I really like Cafe Sintra. The staff greats us warmly and the owner, Manuel, has become a friend over the past couple of years that we've regularly frequented Cafe Sintra. We visit Sintra for late breakfast, usually two Sunday per month. And Sundays, for us, are sacred. They are the only day we both have off, so the fact that we choose Sintra says something. For the past 6 months or so, my boyfriend has not once veered from his breakfast of choice -- huevos rancheros with an extra egg, eggs over easy. This dish is the quintessential Latin breakfast dish. Corn tortillas topped with black bean puree, spiced tomato sauce, eggs your way, and topped with cilantro and cotija cheese. Served with a side of breakfast potatoes, this dish always satisfies my boyfriend, and he is very picky so you know its good,. As for me, I'm more of a dabbler. I recently discovered the spicy chipotle hollandaise option for the variety of eggs benedict dishes, and a few times choose the salmon variety. Unfortunately, the salmon was a bit dry for my liking, and I would have preferred either freshly grilled salmon or else chilled, smoked salmon. What I got was unfortunately somewhere in between. However, on other occasions, I've more than once enjoyed the omelets and crepes. Including one with fresh veggies, spinach, mushrooms and goat cheese, and another that featured grilled veggies and swiss. You can't really go wrong with any of those items! No matter what you choose, the service is excellent and the servers always bring out a plate of toast to munch on before the food arrives. It's simple, served with butter pads and freezer jam, but its a nice touch. I've also dined here for lunch a handful of times. I am a recently-converted pescatarian so I have not enjoyed many of the meat-filled sandwiches (my friends rave about the Rustica), but i have enjoyed many of the salads and soups. The strawberry, walnut salad is one of the best, and there are some other interesting options as well. In addition, Cafe Sintra offers fresh baked pastries (their cookies always look amazing!), wine, espresso drinks and kombucha, so there is something to snack on if you just want to stop in to study (free wi-fi is another plus). Bellatazza coffee is always fresh, hot and self-serve -- another nice touch that makes this place feel like 'home' to us. Overall, I really like the casual, counter service, menu variety, and the European atmosphere of Cafe Sintra, and will continue to spend my Sundays there, boyfriend in tow :) read more

Had sintra on my list to try for breakfast. Thought it had to be great with so many reviews! My husband and I went, and I really am at a loss for words. We both looked at each other when we got our plates with questioning looks like "this is it"? I got the monte cristo style sandwich...two frozen slices of French toast toasted with American cheese and something of a resemblance of eggs all slapped together. My husband got the eggs Benedict and tried to take a few bites but we both ended up pushing our plates away and leaving. No flavor, poor food quality, felt like gas station food. The McMuffin I got after this encounter for $2 bucks was much better than the $30 dollar meal we paid for, that's saying something. read more
