noodles and chicken in a container
Linda S.

If you look at my history, I only give good, positive reviews. Unfortunately, this food was so awful I am trying to warn others. Chicken and vegetables tasteless. Pot stickers bizarre in texture and taste like pure garlic. Pad Thai had so much overpowering tamarind that it was completely inedible. No typical ingredients either like peanuts, bean sprouts, lime, cilantro anything that would give it the common ingredients/flavors of this dish. Who is making this food?!?! Awful!

Pad see ew (thick noodles)
K K.

Ordered take out. Pad Thai was a disappointment. They used super thin noodles instead of the regular thicker noodles. Taste was very bland. I've had much better making my own using bottled Pad Thai sauce. Noodles also very overcooked. Will never order this again. The type of order that truly warrants wanting your money back or getting a different order if you're dinning in. Pad See Ew was wonderful, tasty, lots of vegetables, everything cooked to perfection. Something I'll definitely order again.

Drunken Noodle

Best Thai food around suburbs. I see many negative reviews for this place and they are unfounded. I have eaten here 15 times minimum. The food is great. I have never had issues with the quality. The drunken noodles are one of my favorite dishes. Always tasty, cooked properly, and fresh. I like the basil fried rice a lot. The beef and broccoli is excellent too. I have never had an issue with any employee, I usually interact with a male.

Tom Kha Soup shows vegetables, none were included

Pouring rain outside, decided to order from Simply Thai in Northbrook. Placed the order from the car while waiting for a order from the Chinese joint next door. So i ordered the Tom Kha soup and an order of Chicken Pad Thai. Soup had absolutely no vegetables in it all, only Chicken. The same with the Pad Thai, no vegetables at all only noodles and Chicken. The noodles were so dry I thought they were a week old.

Enormous amount of dressing for the papaya salad.

I support small businesses therefore, I always try to order from family owned, one of a kind restaurants. Tonight, through Uber eats, I ordered a small Tom Yum soup with chicken, papaya salad and flat noodles with chicken. I love how Uber eats works because you get to see the steps from order to delivery. I absolutely recommend ordering through Uber eats as my food was delivered on time and the driver was very pleasant. I wish I can say that my experience with this restaurant was pleasant. When I placed the order, I put in the notes section that I needed utensils, soy sauce and hot chili paste. I am staying at the Marriott for a week for work and often, get sick of Hotel and work food. There were no utensils, no soy sauce or red chili paste. I called the restaurant and spoke to a gentleman who answered the phone to let him know what it happened. His response was "tell the driver to come back and pick it up, go ask the hotel for utensils and sorry, sometimes we forget things." He was so rude and unapologetic that I will never order food from him again. Of the three items that I ordered, the only decent item was the papaya salad. But I did post a picture of how much dressing they include - it was overpowering. The Tom yum soup was bland and flat noodles, too. I do not Recommend and I will not order from again. With other options, I'm sure I'll find betteR customer service and flavor.

Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Cashew Shrimp all flavorless and an oily mess. Very disappointed and will never go back.

I like Thai food, but this is worst place I have ever been. The food was salty and we found a bug in one dish. Will never go there again!

They're nothing like what you'll find at other delis and restaurants, and I can't get enough. On my most recent visit, I ordered the corned beef on rye and a bowl of matzo ball soup It was a classic deli lunch done right. The corned beef was delicious, generously piled high on fresh rye, and the matzo ball was pillowy soft in a warm, comforting broth. Here's a little insider tip: Max & Benny's is really two spots in one. One side is a sit-down restaurant, and the other is the deli. I like to eat in the restaurant, then wander over to the deli on my way out and stock up. I usually grab fresh bread or bagels and a pound of corned beef to take home, and sometimes a box of cookies, because I have zero willpower around a good cookie. The service is friendly and consistent, the food is always good, and it's an easy stop right off the highway. When a place delivers every single time, that's worth five stars.

We drive past Grill House all the time, it has been in Northbrook for a long time (I just found out…read morethat it's been here for 9 years), however, this was the first time that we ever visited, and I am happy that we finally did! My husband and I wanted a quick and good dinner one Sunday recently, and we picked Grill House after I read some good reviews on Yelp.  Although it's a casual, fast-food-style restaurant, the menu is surprisingly extensive, with a wide variety of healthy Greek dishes. It was definitely helpful to look over their menu online before we visited, because the menu board inside could be a bit overwhelming.  I guess I still looked quite confused when I saw 2 kiosks in front of the ordering counter.  A staff behind the counter offered to help, and I just ordered directly with him.  Later of the evening I discovered that he's the friendly owner Gus. After placing our order at the counter, we were given a table number, and our food was delivered promptly.  I ordered a Chicken Souvlaki Plate ($17.50 at the time, it's now listed online for $18), while my husband ordered a Filet Mignon Souvlaki Plate ($25.50).  Each souvlaki plate included a soup or salad, rice and potato (1 piece), a side of veggies, and pita bread in a paper bag.  It was a generous amount of food! We both chose the lentil soup, which was served piping hot in a nice ceramic bowl with a lid. It was flavorful and comforting. My chicken souvlaki was tender and juicy, never dry, and both the rice and potato were delicious. We were both impressed with the quality and value of the meal. I ordered a lemonade, which is considered a fountain drink ($4.00) and comes with free refills, though I couldn't even finish my first glass. My husband would have ordered a glass of wine if we hadn't had plans afterward, so we were happy to see that Grill House also serves beer and wine for a future visit. The service was another highlight. Everyone was warm and welcoming; a special shout-out to Kevin, who was very attentive and checked in on us several times.  When I was taking photos around the restaurant, the owner Gus greeted me again, which was a nice personal touch. The restaurant itself was bright, clean, and inviting. There's also a pleasant patio for those who prefer to dine outdoors. We will definitely be back to try more dishes from their extensive menu.  I am glad that we finally gave Grill House a try!

That said, I've continued to go here and there for convenience despite the price vs food value. Anyway, fast forward to today. I stopped in to grab lunch and they had a new build your own bowl which looked good. You got to choose from 6-7 things (rice, veggies, sauce, etc). I only wanted chicken and rice so asked for a bit of extra rice since I wasn't getting the rest of the options. I was point blank told "no we don't do that". So I asked if they could charge me a slight bit more and they proceeded to add $5.50 for an entire side order of rice. I looked at him baffled and said to remove it. He responded with a horrible attitude and asked the other person at the register who told him not to give me the rice. . Also a small fountain soda is $5. If you're going to rob me, at least be courteous in the process. Never again.

The other struggle will be with parking as this place is generally very packed during dinner hours. After several visits here, I've decided that the best way to order is to get large dishes to share with others. While, individual size servings are great -- there is a ton of spots nearby great for 1-2 people, but this spot does offer some nicely presented large dishes like bossam which are great for serving. I also find the seafood pancake to be a generous size with plenty of seafood and a nice crisp edge. These are definitely prepared with minimal seasoning, relying instead on an assortment of sauces to infuse the food with flavor. The bulgogi similarly, is tender and presented with lots of cabbage, more of a cold day comfort food instead of a seared version with thick sauce as you may find in other nearby locations. Definitely aim for some spicy dishes like the spicy pork bbq with mozzarella cheese if you're coming here, as the spicy options are on a different level of flavor and depth (similar to most Asian food you'll find in the area). Again, the meat is prepared very tender with an explosion of flavor. Overall, excellent food with excellent presentation and surprisingly affordable pricing. Probably one of the best values you'll find from a Yelp Top 100 US restaurant.

There appeared to be a private party going on, and to be fair, they seemed to be having a fantastic time. I, meanwhile, mostly felt like an NPC in the background of their celebration. Service was a little off-putting -- not outright bad, just the kind that makes you wonder if you somehow interrupted something important by ordering food. I tried the Chkmeruli (garlic chicken) and khachapuri. Both were decent enough, but at around $45 total, I kept waiting for the "wow, this is worth it" moment that never really arrived. The khachapuri was fine, the chicken was fine... everything was just aggressively okay. To be fair, your mileage may vary. I may have caught them on an off night, and clearly other people there were enjoying themselves. But based on this visit, it felt less like a cozy culinary discovery and more like paying cover charge to awkwardly attend a party I wasn't invited to.

The Megrulian Khachapuri is traditional Georgian flat bread, made from a yeast dough and baked with a savory cheese filling, and a second layer of cheese baked on top. Served in a bowl with its natural juices topped with thin sliced onions, it was perfectly seasoned, tender, and cooked to a perfect medium rare as we had requested. A side of the Georgian version of ketchup was an excellent accompaniment, tart, tasting of garlic and herbs with just a bit of heat. Service was very good, prices are reasonable, and the dining room spacious and attractively decorated. I recommend Kitchen House Cafe, and we look forward to coming back to try more of the Georgian dishes listed on their menu.

It has become our go-to spot when we want a simple, relaxing meal featuring comfort food, or just a nice bowl of ramen. Our favorite dishes include: Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen ($15.99) -- This comes with three rectangular slices of chashu that are nicely lean, with just enough fat to add flavor. The half-boiled egg was cooked to perfection, the noodles had an ideal texture, and the broth was rich and flavorful. The portion was just right for me. Unagidon ($20.99) -- Fluffy sushi rice topped with fillets of eel glazed in a sweet soy-based sauce, served with miso soup. The bowl is full of flavor and very satisfying. The portion is perfect for me as well. Fried Mini Octopus ($10.99) -- We love the crispy, delicious mini octopus. It's a great appetizer to share. On our most recent visit, my husband ordered the Nabeyaki Udon ($17.99), which was topped with shrimp tempura, fish cake, tempura flakes, half an egg, and scallions. The bowl was tasty, but when comparing it with a similar dish at another Japanese restaurant in Northbrook at the same price, we found the portion at Nomu a little less generous. The other restaurant included an additional tempura shrimp and many chicken pieces, while Nomu's version did not include chicken. Because of that, my husband will probably stick with their ramen rather than order the Nabeyaki Udon again. All in all, we really enjoy our meals at Nomu Ramen and Izakaya.
