Was told there was a Filipino bakery around the corner from River-Sea so I had to check it out. The bakery is a small kitchen across from the Toi Moi. I am a big fan of pandesal and the first thing you see is their menu of pandesal and the different types. The owner's father even gave me and my family some samples to try and they were perfect. Had to pickup what they had left which was the Everything Bagel pandesals which were 6 for $8 and they even let me have one of their last Ubes which was also great. They are looking to serve great Filipino desserts as well and I will definitely be back to try their cakes and the stuffed pandesals as well. read more

During my visit to explore their dessert offerings, I learned that their Cassava cake is seasonal, which disappointed me slightly. However, I decided to try the Lemon Bar and Strawberry Lychee Sago. The Lemon Bar was generously sized for its price and perfectly embodied the vibrant citrus flavors I anticipated; it was genuinely excellent. The Strawberry Lychee Sago was a refreshing dessert. Although pieces of lychee were included, the strawberry flavor was more prominent. It was pretty enjoyable. There is no seating area, and beverage options are not available at the bakery. Stumbled on the shop while picking something up across the hall from them. I tried 4 of their cheesecake bites (Churro, Black Sesame, Hochija, and Miso Caramel). The Churro had a good balance of cinnamon and sugar not too overly sweet. Black Sesame was nice, was able to taste the black sesame. Hochija was our favorite, light and not heavy tasting. So this place seriously saved me, not from dying, but from a string of bad luck. I had originally went to a different baker to get a cake for my husband's 30th. A week out, not a single word from them & I start to panic. I managed to find this place thanks to a local baker who recommended them. I looked through their Yelp photos & knew I had to at least try to get them to do my cake since cafein orders from them (& my husband loves cafein). The customer service was fantastic. Kimberly immediately replied to me and saved me! She asked me to call them & I don't remember who I spoke to on the phone, but she reassured me everything would be complete by the 24th for pickup. The only vendor from my wedding (2012) I still keep in touch with! Kimberly made our cake back then and we also had a cake made for my son's birthday in 2016. Both cakes were delicious and moist and we still have guests talk about them until this day. We did cookies n cream and strawberry cake, both were so good that we can't ever decide on one flavor and have to do multiple layers of both. The icing on both isn't too heavy or sweet either so you can eat as much as you want and you won't get that bloated feeling. I was craving a sweet treat and thank goodness I stumbled upon this place. I was on my way to a concert at nearby Jiffy Lube Live but I had the craziest craving for chocolate chip cookie (Because rock music and chocolate chip cookies go hand-in-hand like peanut butter and jelly, right?). When I walked into the cute little bakery, I was treated to a variety of baked yummy goodness. Six flavors of mini cheesecake (including Oreo, dulce de leche, New York cheesecake, and raspberry cheesecake), a few different flavors of macarons, cupcakes and other pastries, and of course, cookies... several different varieties of them. There was even a vegan snickerdoodle cookie at the counter. Nice! I decided to get a mini raspberry cheesecake for myself, a dulce de leche mini raspberry cheesecake for my friend, and of course, my chocolate chip cookie. The raspberry cheesecake was divine. Not too sweet, excellent texture and a perfect 2-bite size. My friend absolutely loves dulce de leche, and this cheesecake was no exception. In fact, I don't think I heard anything that sounded like intelligible English the entire time he was eating it. I would take that as a pretty clear sign that he enjoyed it. My cookie was just okay. I think they should have used bigger chocolate chips, though. Even though there were a lot of chocolate chips in it, they were too tiny to give me that firm, chewy texture. Instead, I tasted the cookie more than anything. Not the best one I've had, but above-average. The young lady at the counter was an absolute sweetheart and made us feel nothing but welcome. The transaction was quick and we were on our way and plenty of time to catch the concert. Definitely plan on adding this to my list of places to visit when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

She let us take our sweet time and gave advice according to how I wanted our colors and flavors. Throughout the process, she was very patient when we switched guest numbers around and allowed us basically to do everything we were comfortable with. She offered rentals for the cake and cupcake stands in one flat price. When it came to the day of the wedding, the cake was more beautiful than I could imagine. I remember it like it was yesterday...I was working in a hair salon and the owner of Simply Desserts had a great relationship with my manager who used to throw parties and events at the salon all the time. We always used Simply Desserts to provide delicious and visually appealing sweets and they were always a hit. From cupcakes that had our logo in fondant on top to the decadent and moist cakepops, Simply Desserts did it all. I had never had a cakepop before working at the salon and my first experience was amazing, SD created a pop fiend, I couldn't for the life of me, keep my paws off of them. They were so delicious. Kimberly and Jen from Simply Desserts did an incredible job on my wedding cake and dessert table for my January 23 wedding. Yep, that's right -- we got married right in the middle of Winter Storm Jonas, which dumped multiple feet of snow on the Washington DC area. But Simply Desserts scrambled to prep all of my desserts early and deliver them to the venue the day before to ensure that we'd be able to snack on their deliciousness without fail! My cake turned out absolutely beautiful - I was very specific in the type of design that I wanted, as well as wanted to incorporate special Harry Potter touches, and they delivered on every front. It was a small three-tiered almond cake with caramel cream cheese filling and smooth, creamy buttercream frosting on top. It was decorated with gold fondant confetti on the top two tears and buttercream rosettes on the bottom, with a Golden Snitch on the bottom layer as well! Just as I envisioned, and so gorgeously executed. My guests couldn't stop complimenting the taste of the cake as well - the cake itself was moist but delicate, sweet but not TOO sweet, and just so very enjoyable. I also ordered cake pops, mini cheesecakes, and panna cotta from Simply Desserts for the dessert bar, and they were all delicious! Their cake pops are huge (and they decorated some of them with chocolate wings for more Golden Snitches!) , the mini cheesecakes are so yummy, and the panna cottas were delicious and beautifully presented. The tasting was also a really enjoyable experience, fully allowing us to mix-and-match flavors of cake and fillings until we came up with the perfect combination. The place is good, the service is amazing, the presentation of the food is amazing too. The problem is some of the items, alot of them are good. But alot of them are horrible, the cupcakes for starters, the icing taste like rock and leave a funny taste in your mouth, the bread part of the cupcake is bland and dry, I couldn't even take two bites, definitely wouldn't recommend getting cupcakes from here. The cakes are OK, also a little bland and dry, but what makes it up, is the perfect portion of ingredients they put in it. Everything is even and nothing is overpowering. I've been craving a good piece of cake for a few weeks now (it's winter, I'm hibernating). I saw an Instagram post this morning of the brightest rainbow cake I've ever seen. It was the perfect pick-me-up for another dreary frigid winter day. I was going to be in the area of the cafe where this cake was later in the day so I thought I'd detour in. I was SO EXCITED that there were still a few slices left of the cake. It was hard to miss when you walk in- the decor of the cafe was uninspired and mute compared to this rainbow cake that beamed like sunshine and summer. I ordered, they packaged a huge slice up and I drove it home, excited to share it with my husband. I put on the tea, grabbed a fork and dug in. Oh my god, it was AWFUL. The cake was clearly from a box and while not the worst, it was the cloying icing that put this cake straight into the trash. If I could give zero stars, I would. It had the texture of shortening and the flavor of... like it wanted to be vanilla when it grew up. People shouldn't waste their time, money, or calories on shitty baked goods so I was compelled to write a review. Turns out I wasn't wrong about the boxed cake mix. I popped in on a Friday to ask about cake pops and how much they cost, how far out I have to order a custom order. The girl at the counter didn't really know the prices for the custom order and said "I think they're like $3 each". Okay... Then she said I'd have to order 10 cake pops at least 2 weeks out. Okay... not going to work. So I bought a cake from inside the cooler. They offered to personalize it, I wanted a very simple outline with a few numbers on it. She took it back and they said they would only personalize it with letters. Kind of irritating because the outline was a generic shape with zero detailing, and would have taken less time than writing happy birthday name. Also the staff told me it was because they were too busy to do the 6 line outline. Basically me buying their overpriced $50 cake wasn't worth 4 minutes of their time when they had some wedding cakes to work on. How about don't offer personalization on a $50 cake if you only want to do letters? I felt it was rude and ridiculous.
