Was told there was a Filipino bakery around the corner from River-Sea so I had to check it out. The bakery is a small kitchen across from the Toi Moi. I am a big fan of pandesal and the first thing you see is their menu of pandesal and the different types. The owner's father even gave me and my family some samples to try and they were perfect. Had to pickup what they had left which was the Everything Bagel pandesals which were 6 for $8 and they even let me have one of their last Ubes which was also great. They are looking to serve great Filipino desserts as well and I will definitely be back to try their cakes and the stuffed pandesals as well. read more

Stopped by after eating at Odd BBQ. It's situated right across from Toi Moi bakery. Initially, I just grabbed 1 ube tres leches & 1 Dubai chocolate brownie, but they were both too good that we had to go back & get several more. Ube tres leches was perfection... not too sweet, light & so so moist & flavorful! My husband (who is a chocolate addict) loved the dubai brownie. It's a brownie base with a thick & crispy pistachio/kataifi layer & decadent ganache on top. They had a wonderful variety of items, including halo halo, cheesecakes, & and more, which I can't wait to try next time! read more

This Filipino bakery in Chantilly Square specializes in custom cakes, particularly wedding cakes. During my visit to explore their dessert offerings, I learned that their Cassava cake is seasonal, which disappointed me slightly. However, I decided to try the Lemon Bar and Strawberry Lychee Sago. The Lemon Bar was generously sized for its price and perfectly embodied the vibrant citrus flavors I anticipated; it was genuinely excellent. The Strawberry Lychee Sago was a refreshing dessert. Although pieces of lychee were included, the strawberry flavor was more prominent. It was pretty enjoyable. There is no seating area, and beverage options are not available at the bakery. Given the quality of the desserts I sampled, I look forward to returning soon to explore more of their offerings. read more

The cupcakes here are super moist and flavorful, and not too sweet :) It's also right by Toi Moi bakery, so it's super hard to miss! The staff member here that helped me was super nice as well. Stumbled on the shop while picking something up across the hall from them. I tried 4 of their cheesecake bites (Churro, Black Sesame, Hochija, and Miso Caramel). The Churro had a good balance of cinnamon and sugar not too overly sweet. Black Sesame was nice, was able to taste the black sesame. Hochija was our favorite, light and not heavy tasting. The Miso caramel was more of just a salted caramel, I couldn't really taste the miso. Overall not a bad taste experience. read more

I have know Kimberly now for 15 yrs., from when she first started her business from her home. I have continued to support Kimberly and her business for several reasons. 1. She makes GREAT desserts! 2. She is honest & fair in her business. 3. She is very creative. 4. She makes a white chocolate cheesecake to die for! 5. Her business is always clean 5. Her associates are hard working & talented 6. She offers fun and varied classes for any age 7. Her cakes, cupcakes, muffins, scones etc., etc., etc., are not only very delicious but moist, fresh plus yummy! 8. Simply Desserts always offers a varying menu, so you don't see the same things all the time but can ask for your favorites. 9. They do special requests & I'm not just talking about wedding cakes, party cakes etc. if you have a favorite dessert that you absolutely love and ask her to make it for you, Kimberly will try. She can't do everything but she honest with you if you make a request for something she just can't do. 10. For the quality of the product and not getting mass produced factory made items, Simply Desserts is very fairly priced. Some people may be looking for cheap, you won't get that with them because they hand make all their items with the finest of ingredients, so you will be paying for the best of the best. 11. Oh, have I mentioned how amazingly good Simply Desserts goodies tastes? OMG! If you're having a wedding, get your desserts here! We didn't want just a cake for our guests and she provided cookies, mini cheesecakes, etc in addition to our 2 tier cake. Everything was delicious! We got to sample everything before and she provided us with a free cake for our 1st anniversary. Also, pricing is very fair. 10/10 would recommend! read more

100% FIVE STARS!!! Service, design and taste was top notch! I contacted Kimberly with 5 days until my mom's birthday. We finalized two days out and she delivered a BEAUTIFUL cake! I'm on the west coast so there was a bit of phone tag but her kindness and patience was awesome. I ordered a six inch, lavender earl gray cake with honey lemon swiss buttercream frosting. My family said it was delicious! I wish I could've been home to celebrate and try it. I definitely recommend working with Kimberly. I sent two inspiration photos and she created magic. I couldn't be happier:) Thank you SO much!!! read more

Simply Desserts - Cake with gold honeycomb design, cute bumblebees and pink roses on top! - Desserts Near Me - Chantilly, Virginia

Worth it: Not worth the attitude of one of the employees that works there. Not worth the average and sometimes dry dessert. It's not even worth the 10-minute drive. We have been to this location 4 times because we really wanted to like this place. it's close and we love supporting local businesses, but sometimes you have to admit defeat. The last and final time is when I (Sister 2) brought my boyfriend with me. We got a macaron, funfetti whoopie pie, and a triple chocolate brownie. The macaron was eh. The funfetti whoopie pie was bland. The triple chocolate brownie was okay. 5/5 not worth it. Menu: They do have a menu online and menu in-store. They have gluten-free and vegan desserts, (heart pies) poptarts, cakes, brownies, and a lot of sugary goods to be disappointed from. They also have a dessert of the week that they offer a percentage off. Food Presentations: Items are presented in a clean glass case where you can easily select and look at the desserts offered. Ambiance: There is seating outside and very limited seating inside. Service: We have interreacted with who we believe is the manager, who is warm, helpful, and nice. However, there is a young brunette employee who has been there 2 out of the 4 times who is rude. My boyfriend had driven all the way up from the Navy to take me to get some dessert and I decided to give this place one last chance. My boyfriend and I walked in, smiled, and said "hi, how are you?" She looked up, walked away (yes, away), and didn't even respond. Two minutes later, she comes back and remains silent, we both tell her what we want, and pay and leave. The service alone was enough to never come back. read more

So this place seriously saved me, not from dying, but from a string of bad luck. I had originally went to a different baker to get a cake for my husband's 30th. A week out, not a single word from them & I start to panic. I managed to find this place thanks to a local baker who recommended them. I looked through their Yelp photos & knew I had to at least try to get them to do my cake since cafein orders from them (& my husband loves cafein). The customer service was fantastic. Kimberly immediately replied to me and saved me! She asked me to call them & I don't remember who I spoke to on the phone, but she reassured me everything would be complete by the 24th for pickup. I was even able to order my cake in green tea with green tea frosting I believe. The cake turned out just the way I envisioned it would. I found pictures of a sushi cake I knew he would be delighted by & they turned it into a reality. When I unveiled it at the Christmas dinner, everybody was blown away by the details of the cake & how delicious it was too. Thank you Kimberly, Molly & team for making my husband's 30th perfect :) read more

I used Simply Desserts for our wedding cake and was super impressed! Kimberly made it easy to set up a tasting and we had so much fun doing it. I needed the cake to be gluten free and she had plenty of options. We ended up going with a lemon cake with raspberry buttercream and a raspberry jelly on the inside & a honey lemon buttercream on the outside. It was SO delicious!! Everyone at the wedding was telling us how good it was - and no one could tell it was gluten free either! I would highly recommend this bakery for a wedding cake or any type of special ordered desserts - especially gluten free. The only vendor from my wedding (2012) I still keep in touch with! Kimberly made our cake back then and we also had a cake made for my son's birthday in 2016. Both cakes were delicious and moist and we still have guests talk about them until this day. We did cookies n cream and strawberry cake, both were so good that we can't ever decide on one flavor and have to do multiple layers of both. The icing on both isn't too heavy or sweet either so you can eat as much as you want and you won't get that bloated feeling. Not only were the cakes delicious, Kimberly was super sweet and professional and just a joy to work with. She really wants you to be happy and tries to make your vision come true. I will definitely order from here for any special events I may have in the future and would recommend her to anyone! read more

I was craving a sweet treat and thank goodness I stumbled upon this place. I was on my way to a concert at nearby Jiffy Lube Live but I had the craziest craving for chocolate chip cookie (Because rock music and chocolate chip cookies go hand-in-hand like peanut butter and jelly, right?). When I walked into the cute little bakery, I was treated to a variety of baked yummy goodness. Six flavors of mini cheesecake (including Oreo, dulce de leche, New York cheesecake, and raspberry cheesecake), a few different flavors of macarons, cupcakes and other pastries, and of course, cookies... several different varieties of them. There was even a vegan snickerdoodle cookie at the counter. Nice! I decided to get a mini raspberry cheesecake for myself, a dulce de leche mini raspberry cheesecake for my friend, and of course, my chocolate chip cookie. The raspberry cheesecake was divine. Not too sweet, excellent texture and a perfect 2-bite size. My friend absolutely loves dulce de leche, and this cheesecake was no exception. In fact, I don't think I heard anything that sounded like intelligible English the entire time he was eating it. I would take that as a pretty clear sign that he enjoyed it. My cookie was just okay. I think they should have used bigger chocolate chips, though. Even though there were a lot of chocolate chips in it, they were too tiny to give me that firm, chewy texture. Instead, I tasted the cookie more than anything. Not the best one I've had, but above-average. The young lady at the counter was an absolute sweetheart and made us feel nothing but welcome. The transaction was quick and we were on our way and plenty of time to catch the concert. Definitely plan on adding this to my list of places to visit when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Simply the best! Kimberly and her team were amazing from beginning to end. During the tasting, she provided different cuts of cakes and dollops of icing that we could mix and match. She let us take our sweet time and gave advice according to how I wanted our colors and flavors. Throughout the process, she was very patient when we switched guest numbers around and allowed us basically to do everything we were comfortable with. She offered rentals for the cake and cupcake stands in one flat price. When it came to the day of the wedding, the cake was more beautiful than I could imagine. She got my exact vision and it was DELICIOUS. I'm very picky when it comes to my cakes let me tell you. I chose a lavender earl gray with honey swiss buttercream - simply the best. I went to two other cake tastings that quoted a bit more and they were not even half as good. They put magic in these cakes because they were super moist and with the right amount of icing. We tried several items. Here's what we thought Whoopee pies traditional (chocolate cake and white filling) - good Whoopee pie with oatmeal cookies - very good Double fudge brownie - my son proclaimed this delicious Snickerdoodle cookie - good texture and taste Chocolate chip cookie - good Cinammon cupcake - cake part a bit drier than I like They have a cute sitting room where you can eat your treats. The items we purchased plus a bottle of water cost $18.56. We would return but try other things (in addition to the brownie & oatmeal pie), hopefully some macarons. read more

I have been to SD multiple times but I was initially introduced to their treats at Cafein in Chantilly. Some of what they offer includes Green tea cakes and whoopie pies, which are delicious to say the least. Here in Gainesville you'll get the full experience with cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, pop tarts, mini cheesecakes, cookies & even treats for your pup! The peanut butter, champagne and salted caramel cupcakes were my fav. I could literally eat them all day. You never forget your first...cakepop. I remember it like it was yesterday...I was working in a hair salon and the owner of Simply Desserts had a great relationship with my manager who used to throw parties and events at the salon all the time. We always used Simply Desserts to provide delicious and visually appealing sweets and they were always a hit. From cupcakes that had our logo in fondant on top to the decadent and moist cakepops, Simply Desserts did it all. I had never had a cakepop before working at the salon and my first experience was amazing, SD created a pop fiend, I couldn't for the life of me, keep my paws off of them. They were so delicious. I haven't been here in a couple of months but was in the area and craving something sweet. I picked up a tres leche cupcake and a vegan vanilla cupcake. The tres leche cupcake was so delicious! Not too sweet but just enough. I think the icing was whip cream or butter cream but very soft! It was their last one so I'm sure it's pretty popular. Its been my favorite thing I've tried from Simply Desserts. The vegan vanilla cupcake was a complete miss. The icing was rock hard and so was the bread. It's a hit or miss here but if you order anything make sure it's the tres leche cupcake. You won't regret it! read more

Kimberly and Jen from Simply Desserts did an incredible job on my wedding cake and dessert table for my January 23 wedding. Yep, that's right -- we got married right in the middle of Winter Storm Jonas, which dumped multiple feet of snow on the Washington DC area. But Simply Desserts scrambled to prep all of my desserts early and deliver them to the venue the day before to ensure that we'd be able to snack on their deliciousness without fail! My cake turned out absolutely beautiful - I was very specific in the type of design that I wanted, as well as wanted to incorporate special Harry Potter touches, and they delivered on every front. It was a small three-tiered almond cake with caramel cream cheese filling and smooth, creamy buttercream frosting on top. It was decorated with gold fondant confetti on the top two tears and buttercream rosettes on the bottom, with a Golden Snitch on the bottom layer as well! Just as I envisioned, and so gorgeously executed. My guests couldn't stop complimenting the taste of the cake as well - the cake itself was moist but delicate, sweet but not TOO sweet, and just so very enjoyable. I also ordered cake pops, mini cheesecakes, and panna cotta from Simply Desserts for the dessert bar, and they were all delicious! Their cake pops are huge (and they decorated some of them with chocolate wings for more Golden Snitches!) , the mini cheesecakes are so yummy, and the panna cottas were delicious and beautifully presented. The tasting was also a really enjoyable experience, fully allowing us to mix-and-match flavors of cake and fillings until we came up with the perfect combination. Their pricing was very fair, and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out! I would heartily recommend them to any bride (or simply for any special occasion!) read more

The place is good, the service is amazing, the presentation of the food is amazing too. The problem is some of the items, alot of them are good. But alot of them are horrible, the cupcakes for starters, the icing taste like rock and leave a funny taste in your mouth, the bread part of the cupcake is bland and dry, I couldn't even take two bites, definitely wouldn't recommend getting cupcakes from here. The cakes are OK, also a little bland and dry, but what makes it up, is the perfect portion of ingredients they put in it. Everything is even and nothing is overpowering. For the most part, I recommend this place, stay away from cupcakes and before ordering a large portion of something new, I recommend buying one to try it. read more

I've been craving a good piece of cake for a few weeks now (it's winter, I'm hibernating). I saw an Instagram post this morning of the brightest rainbow cake I've ever seen. It was the perfect pick-me-up for another dreary frigid winter day. I was going to be in the area of the cafe where this cake was later in the day so I thought I'd detour in. I was SO EXCITED that there were still a few slices left of the cake. It was hard to miss when you walk in- the decor of the cafe was uninspired and mute compared to this rainbow cake that beamed like sunshine and summer. I ordered, they packaged a huge slice up and I drove it home, excited to share it with my husband. I put on the tea, grabbed a fork and dug in. Oh my god, it was AWFUL. The cake was clearly from a box and while not the worst, it was the cloying icing that put this cake straight into the trash. If I could give zero stars, I would. It had the texture of shortening and the flavor of... like it wanted to be vanilla when it grew up. People shouldn't waste their time, money, or calories on shitty baked goods so I was compelled to write a review. Turns out I wasn't wrong about the boxed cake mix. Through the grapevine I found out I know someone who used to work for Simply Desserts. It IS doctored box cake and frosting from a tub!! Spend your money elsewhere, folks. You deserve better than box mix cake and frosting from a tub from a "professional." read more

We've loved the cupcakes we've picked up here. The chocolate chip cookie dough one is my favorite. The only reason they don't get 5 stars was due to the bday cake I got for my son. We are kind of cup cake snobs since having cup cakes at our wedding; we've tried a lot! Decided to stop in after lunch for dessert. We got the peanut butter cup cupcake and champagne cupcake; which both were not very good at all. They definitely were not worth the calories or the price. Update to respond to comment for more information. Cupcakes were dry and the frosting was too dense. The cupcakes were on the small side and tasted like they were made a few days before and stored in a refrigerator. read more

Update: As I mentioned the owner was very kind last time I met her and I was very surprised at how I was treated in the store. I understand different seasons are busier than others, and walked in with zero expectations for a custom order. I received a great private message from the owner offering to remedy the situation quickly and efficiently. Because she cared so much to write me a thorough message and talk to her employees about the situations thank you Kimberly for your kind message and attempt to make a customer happy. I respect your effort to do so and have upped my review accordingly. --- The food is tasty. The owner is kind when business is slow apparently. I popped in on a Friday to ask about cake pops and how much they cost, how far out I have to order a custom order. The girl at the counter didn't really know the prices for the custom order and said "I think they're like $3 each". Okay... Then she said I'd have to order 10 cake pops at least 2 weeks out. Okay... not going to work. So I bought a cake from inside the cooler. They offered to personalize it, I wanted a very simple outline with a few numbers on it. She took it back and they said they would only personalize it with letters. Kind of irritating because the outline was a generic shape with zero detailing, and would have taken less time than writing happy birthday name. Also the staff told me it was because they were too busy to do the 6 line outline. Basically me buying their overpriced $50 cake wasn't worth 4 minutes of their time when they had some wedding cakes to work on. How about don't offer personalization on a $50 cake if you only want to do letters? I felt it was rude and ridiculous. There are so many other nice places in the area that are willing to work with customers. Unfortunately I had already paid for the cake and had to take it. read more

Bottom line: gross, inedible cake. I recently moved to the area, and entrusted Simply Desserts with a custom birthday cake. I did so based upon the images on her website, and the reviews here. The proprietor uses cheap, gross ingredients to make flavorless cakes and she cannot create the desserts her website claims. Basic details of the design, colors and shape for example she did not even ask me about and made them up on her own. The image I gave her to put on top of the cake came out printed in a weird blue tint- not at all the colors of the original photo....that was the weirdest part, the cake looked nothing like the other cakes pictured on the website. Not professionaly done at all, it was a mess. And the shape of the cake was something she decided without my input. I was not queried about customization at any point- I guess my cake wasn't as important as others. It got worse when we cut into it...and tried to eat it... She uses sub-par quality materials and markets them as gourmet. What was sold as "buttercream frosting" is in fact the grainy, sugary store-bought product that comes in cans and leaves a filmy coating in your mouth. Not something people want more slices of! It was disgusting and inedible. The chocolate cake layers had no actual chocolate flavor. And the "Bavarian Cream filing?" Vanilla jello pudding. Yep, you read that right. vanilla jello pudding was sold as "bavarian cream" for layering between the cake. Wal Mart could have made a better cake....I could have made a better cake. To say I was embarassed and disappointed is an understatement. And if you're comfortable with dealing with a vendor who works out of their home, be my guest, but I'm not even sure that meets the minimum requirements of the Virginia Health Code. This is why they do not want you to pick the cake up and they would rather deliver. Please if you want a beautiful, memorable and delicious cake, stay far away from this "bakery". There are many many other cakeries in NoVA to choose from. She ruined a birthday and she could ruin your wedding too. read more
