Milk bread and pastry with mango passionfruit creme
    Jacqueline K.

Giving it 3 stars because the lady helping us was so sweet, but overall this place was personally a miss for me. It could be that we ordered the wrong items to try, but the bunny milk bread was a bit too hard (almost as though it was slightly stale) and it felt as though there wasn't much cream inside. We also tried a separate pastry (that to Toimoi's credit, is incredibly flaky, which is great) but the mango passionfruit creme wasn't that appetizing for me. It felt like it was missing something - perhaps fresh fruit mixed in with the creme would have been nice. Toimoi was also situated down a long, darker corridor and I think it was more of where they prep and bake the pastries rather than more of a traditional storefront. It wasn't my favorite vibe for a bakery but that's a personal preference on ambiance. Would like to give it another try because again, the lady helping us was very nice and the pastries look yummy, it just didn't deliver in taste for me this time.

Love seeing Toimoi around town at different markets and events! Most recently I tried their mango sticky rice croissant and it was so good! Great fusion of two of my favorite things.

I've had their pastries at the One Loudon Farmer's Market and I love how it wasn't too sweet. I later on ordered a set of sweet pastries on their website. When picking up the pastries, I got lost with where to go as I had to go down a narrow walk way in a building. Once I found the place, it was mainly the bakery with a little section of the pastries you can buy. I picked up a lychee raspberry danish, a matcha strawberry croissant, mango passsionfruit mochi croissant, and ube croissant. The lychee raspberry danish was okay. It was very sugary sweet and the flavors were present. I love the lychee. After, I had the matcha strawberry. It was very delightful. The strawberry wasn't too present as the matcha cream overtook the flavor. After I had the ube croissant. It was my favorite as the flavor was strong and the cream, just like the matcha strawberry, was very nice and airy. I feel like the items from the market versus ordering ahead and picking it up does taste more fresh. I also ordered a ube tres leche cake. It was very unique as I love ube and tres leche. I didn't think to put the two together. It did taste really good and it has the same cream as the ube croissant filling. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't really tres leches as it wasn't really soaked with the milk. I saw parts weren't even soaked at all. I feel like the cake can be redeemable.

About a 1-1.5: Toimoi Bakery is a bakery offering Asian-flavored pastries, specifically popular for their croissants. I ordered: +the Mix Berry Cream croissant +a Pistachio Rose croissant +an Everything pastry Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of any of these pastries, as they didn't taste fresh; they were dried out, and the filling wasn't much. For example, you'd expect their croissants which supposedly are their bestsellers would be buttery, flakey, and yummy; our selection was dried out, and, honestly, they have been baked a a tad bit longer as they were a darker brown. The Everything pastry was the most disappointing, as there was literally a little pat of cream cheese inside; it would have been better if it was a cream cheese filling that actually filled up the pastry. Service was kind. Located inside the Chantilly Square, which seems to house various vendors with their own kitchen, finding the place was easy with the labeled signs and directions. No dice, Toimoi. +dried-out pastries +friendly service +located at Chantilly Square

I got these labubu moon cakes at a pop up the bakery did at The Block for their closing celebration. I love how innovative and fun their pastries are!

What's the union market pop up and got the pistachio almond croissant. The filling was amazing and they had a bunch of different unique, croissants and other pastries that I would love to try. They had a ton of Ube and strawberry filling pastries that looked very interesting and there was a long line to get them, but it went by quick.

You're not alone if you're wandering through the building and outside on where the find this hidden secret! It's usually a pop up but they are open inside the shared building if you follow the arrows and your nose to the fresh baked goods :) They rotating flavors and baked goods so I cant pin point it down to one, but the ube bread was delicious!

I got 6 pastries from Toimoi at the Arlington market! My husband and I both are huge foodies and couldn't help ourselves but try every single one on the same day My personal favorite was the savory kimchi ham and cheese crossaint and my husband's was the egg and miso paste! All of them were beautiful and you can tell made with GREAT flavors in mind! We almost wish the Asian flavors were stronger! Such as the kimchi or Ube! The service at the Arlington market was amazing as well! We couldn't choose and just kinda panicked and said "Please give us 6 of your favorites!" And they delivered (: Overall we cannot wait to get more toimoi and try more flavors!

    Black Sesame and Marshmallow Croissant

I've tried 2 of their pastries so far and can definitely tell that the croissants are high quality. They are crispy and airy and I like them even better than the croissants I got from Bread Alley (which had been my leading croissant in the DMV til now). Try baking them at 350F for a few minutes to warm up if you got them cold. They taste so good after doing that. I tried the black sesame and marshmallow croissant which was a 4/5 since I love black sesame and though the filling flavor could have been stronger and there could have been more filling. Also tried the pandan croissant which was. 4.5/5 loved the pandas flavor and it was interesting that it was a sticky filling rather than cream. The bigger pastries get a little pricey at $10-$12 a pop. Wish they did smaller sampler sizes. I do love that they are doing a pop up in Arlington. It allows me to buy their stuff more frequently since their actually bakery in Chantilly is too far. Please keep coming! There was no line both times I went and service was friendly.

Not that I'm in the habit of making New Year's resolutions, but one of the few that I made for 2024 is to try and whittle down my ever growing list of places I've bookmarked on Yelp. I've seen Toimoi at various farmer's markets around the area, and it's been on my list since 2022. I just happened to be in Chantilly visiting the amazing River Sea Chocolate factory (https://www.yelp.com/biz/river-sea-chocolate-factory-chantilly?osq=river+sea+chocolate) to pick up a few gifts, and I noticed someone sitting at a table eating a croissant while also enjoying one of River Sea's always tasty hot chocolates. After inquiring as to where she got the pastry, she mentioned that Toimoi Bakery was located in the same complex and I knew I also had to pop in to check the place out. The location is what Toimoi terms their "croissant hub," although in actuality this is their production facility where they produce many of their baked goods. The owner, Shurou Pu (but she just goes by Annie), was present and was super friendly as she provided some background as to the business and also gave me a few samples. Originally from Beijing, Annie is a classically trained French pastry chef who also honed her skills working at bakery chain Le Grenier à Pain. Pu's unique spin on classic French pastry infused with Asian flavors enticed me to purchase a few items such as the black sesame, ube, as well as the classic Pan au Chocolate. The croissants were light and flaky and had that most desired of Asian flavor profile of being "sweet but not too sweet." Even the next day, the pastries were not dried out and paired nicely with my morning coffee. Admittedly, the price point for these items are on-par if not slightly higher than what I normally pay for pastries. But rather than mass produced items, the goods being baked out of the Toimoi kitchen are truly artisan small batches, so expect them to be priced accordingly. It's easier to get Toimoi at the various markets around the area, but if I'm near Chantilly, I'll stop in again since there is a larger selection.

Went to the Mosaic farmers market and had my eyes on this booth from the start! I was not disappointed at all - however the pastries were expensive at $6.50+ per item. I loved the selection of unique flavors, which made it really hard to pick which ones - Pistachio Rose Croissant: this was delicious but I thought I'd like it more because I love pistachios (hence why I got two) but the other ones we got were better in my opinion - Raspberry Lychee: this was my boyfriend's favorite! The powdered sugar on top just gave it that extra sweetness - Matcha Strawberry Croissant: this one was my personal favorite! The matcha inside paired perfectly - an ingenious combination You cannot miss with anything you get here! Definitely want to try more flavors!

The Instagram ads and influencers got to me and I caved in after eyeing this place for a year. Went to the Mosaic Market to see the hype- there was a long line even during the morning time. There are so many options to choose from it was hard to pick. The owner was there and she was the nicest person ever- her personality and kindness really resonated with me. I tried the Cherry Blossom Croissant, Mango Passionfruit Mochi Croissant, and the Pistachio Rose Croissant per her recommendation. I was also given an Ube Brownie to try. The Cherry Blossom Croissant had me intrigued as I've never had anything with that delicious, floral Sakura flavor. A good amount of filling was in it, but I wish there was more! Very visually appealing and creative design. I would get this again for the sakura blossom flavor. I loved the filling for the Pistachio Rose Croissant. The second I tasted that filling, my eyes lit up. Again, wish it was loaded with more filling, but I'd get that one again. Only thing was that croissant was too flakey to where it crumbled a lot just by being inside a to-go bag. I'm not sure if a croissant should do that. The Mango Passionfruit Mochi was a unique flavor combination. I loved the light cream filling and again, would've liked even more filling. Adding a mochi texture was an interesting, creative component. I could do without it though. The filling is more of a light flavor and not an intense mango passionfruit flavor, but still tasty. The Ube Brownie I honestly didn't like. Not chocolatey at all and the texture was odd. Tastes and smells like it has too much vanilla extract and just a weird taste with bad consistency. Overall, glad I tried this place. If in the area or at markets where it's available, I'd purchase again and try different flavors.
