Fluffy Thoughts did our wedding cake back in May and it nice, the design and flavors were great. I had them do a birthday cake for me last week and while the design was nice, the cake was dry, stale, too much icing, bad proportions. No one ate it. The guest slices were nibbled at and thrown away. The rest of the left over cake will be thrown out on trash day. I spent more than $500 on the cake, which included a delivery fee... my decision and I'm not complaining about it. The cake was not not good and they were not willing to give any compensation without me driving an hour to the shop with the stale left over cake. The hassle of driving there for a $50 credit wasn't worth me leaving the office. Again, my decision... After reading some of the reviews, the problem with Fluffy Thoughts seems to be consistency. It's either good or it's not. I won't take a chance again. Especially with other fantastic bakery options in the area. I should have read and paid more attention to their reviews. So, I found Fluffy through a google search and as with most people, I looked up the reviews. If I am being honest, the negative reviews sounds like it comes from entitled, wealthy suburbanites that thinks the world revolves around them. Lets talk about my experience. I emailed a couple locations for a custom cake for my Wife's Birthday and Fluffy got back to me extremely quick. Responded and our email chain went back and forth and narrowed down a design and agreed upon it within the same day. So no portal, and actual humans I was emailing. Now, where I think they went above and beyond, is accommodating a request I have. I think people forget that small businesses are people too and that their time is just as important as our time. And I always make sure to respect that. With relative short notice, I wanted the cake to be ready earlier than an agreed upon date. They communicated extremely well in regards to my accommodation and informed me they would make an attempt, but not guaranteed. Look, I made the request and I did it outside the agreed upon Window. They didnt have to honor my request. But within a day, they responded back and were able to give me the earlier pick up date I needed. And OMG, the cake is amazing. My wife is a HUGE BTS fan and they nailed the cake I asked for. I couldnt be happier with them. Ignore the negative reviews as my experience was extremely pleasant and the staff was great. I responded back to her email few days after her email and they told me that they can no longer fulfill my order. What's funny is I used Lara for wedding cake and her delivery person brought the cake without a stand and the decoration wasn't done right ( you can imagine how unflattering that it ) but I decided to leg it go. Lara at Fluffy Thoughts is an incredibly talented artist. Her designs are truly a work of art. We were beyond thrilled with our wedding cake from Fluffy Thoughts. When meeting with Lara, we showed her a few photos of what we imagined, and talked through a design. On the spot, she drew a couple of samples. She immediately took what I pictured and put it on paper. At the tasting, we got huge portions of cake to sample. My parents and sister came with us, and we all got more than enough - we could barely even finish the samples! They definitely did not skimp on the tasting. The actual cake came out looking exactly how she drew it at our meeting and how I imagined! I also asked her to include a fancy, gold "R" initial on the cake, last minute, with no other direction. It came out absolutely gorgeous! We got so many compliments on not only how beautiful the cake was, but on the taste as well. I have been to so many weddings where the cake was just okay, and got left uneaten. Our guests ate it up! We chose a white cake with layers of raspberry and chocolate ganache. It was to die for! The other amazing thing about Fluffy Thoughts, is that they will give you a small top tier of your wedding cake, at no cost, on your one year anniversary, so you don't have to worry about saving the top tier from the wedding. Your guests will thank you for this, as there is more to go around. If you live in the NOVA/D.C./MD area, don't bother looking elsewhere for a wedding cake, because you will be disappointed. So we just recently moved to McLean, VA from Southern California.....On a walk one morning, right across the street from our apartment I noticed what appeared to be a cake shop....I noted their website and looked them up....It all sounded interesting...I have never been much for "cakes", let alone custom cakes - however, my wife's birthday was just around the corner, so I thought I would ask her if she had her choice for a custom cake for her birthday, what would she want.......She described it to me, and I emailed this company with her requirements (vanilla cake with chocolate mouse filling and whip cream frosting on top......Unfortunately they could not provide the Whip cream frosting, but had a great substitute.........Laua and Emma were incredibly helpful, as at first the requirement was for on about 8 people but grew to 16, so alterations had to be made. Also, since my wife is a huge Michigan Wolverines fan, I asked if they could put the Michigan "M" on the cake....They provided me with four or five different "M's" to choose from and of course the standard "Happy Birthday Justine"!! Also the 6 in 1963 was light like she ran out of icing. They wasn't much attention to detail in my opinion bc that could've easily been corrected as well. The customer service was great and the actual flavor of the cake was amazing. I got strawberry shortcake. Would I use them again? Not sure! Found this cute little bakery by searching on Yelp. A friend and I stopped in and tried a vanilla and a red velvet cupcake. The little shop smells divine and the cupcakes were delicious. Icing has an extreme amount of sugar, but that's what we were hoping for! If I were rating the cupcakes I'd give 5 stars. However, the cashier was very rude; he even rolled his eyes at me when I inserted my credit card too quickly. He had zero manners. If you're having a bad day, take a break. Incredible! Fluffy Thoughts Cakes, recommended to us by The Lorien Hotel and Spa, went above and beyond in their production of my groom's cake. My request was that they recreate my college football helmet in a capacity that would serve 50 guests at the rehearsal dinner and they nailed it! The tasty was very relaxed and the staff member explained all of our cake and icing pairing options as we enjoyed the samples with coffee and tea. At that time, I presented pictures of the helmet for an estimate cost. The week of the rehearsal dinner, I dropped the physical helmet off with Fluffy Thoughts Cakes for color matching and to ask that they include specific helmet details. All requested details were included with greater precision than I could have imagined. Fluffy Thoughts Cakes delivered the cake on time and handed off the finished product to the hotel catering staff seamlessly. The cake was beautiful, moist, and delicious! Most guests ate multiple pieces. Leftovers were brought to the groom's quarters where it was enjoyed for the remainder of the weekend. Fluffy Thoughts forgot our daughter's first birthday cake. We emailed with the owner, Lara, two weeks before the party. We exchanged a few emails finalizing the design of the cakes. Lara then asked us to call to formally place the order. We called, confirmed the order, and gave a credit card. We showed up the morning of the party at the time we set for pickup. No cake. They either forgot or didn't actually put in the order. To make matter just that much more ridiculous, they then asked if we would like to buy any of the cakes they had pre-made. We weren't in a rush and just continued to flip through the cake design reading materials and just assumed they were preparing our tasting plates, but then Lara finally came out 30 minutes later. Visibly annoyed she sat down with us and said "well, we won't be able to get through the whole tasting since you are 30 minutes late for your appointment". My husband and I both confused, Informed her we had been waiting for 30 minutes for her and that we arrived on time. Shocked, she went back to the kitchen, I guess to confirm with the young woman, and came back without even apologizing to us. She blamed her employee for failing to inform her. The mood was soured through the rest of the tasting even though we got to try the cakes and I was left feeling very deflated that I drove all the way to McClean from DC to be met with such poor customer service. An apology would have been appreciated but I decided to go somewhere else because customer service is more important than the product. The ordering process for this place is ridiculous. I reached out in the beginning of May asking if they could do a Simpsons cake for my daughter's bday on May 23rd. The office assistant replied a couple of days after my first inquiry stating "We would love to make this cake for you! Do you have any photos of designs you've seen and likes? If you send some over to me, id be happy to send you back some accurate pricing " her reply was May 4th. In my mind I thought great! We have a place to do our cake. I could not pick a good Simpsons cake so on May 12th I emailed saying let's go with a less elaborate design. The office assistant who emails from the owners email account responded with "I am very sorry, but we have fully booked for all orders until the 24th of May. We are very short staffed at the moment and it is also peak wedding season here for us at the shop. We hope to be able to make something beautiful for you in the future with a bit more notice." When I first called at the end of April I was told that the beginning of May was enough notice. This place is unprofessional in how they completely blew me off. It's not even me but they made it seem as though they could do my daughters cake and then just flipped the switch. I do not recommend doing Business with this place. read more
