This was an incredibly disappointing experience. We ordered and paid for a custom cake for our son's first birthday party, intended to be the centerpiece of a safari-themed celebration. The order was confirmed by email three days before the event, yet the cake was not available at the time of the party. We received no advance notice, no explanation, and no phone call from the bakery. Instead of enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime milestone, we spent much of the party dealing with stress and confusion. The missing cake was obvious to guests and took away from the entire event. An Uber driver eventually arrived after the party had already ended, with a dummy cake and a sheet cake, and appeared to have very little information about the order. That moment summed up the experience -- disorganized and poorly handled. What made this even more frustrating was the lack of follow-up. Despite repeated attempts to get clarity, no one from management reached out to apologize, explain what happened, or issue some sort of refund. In our opinion, this reflects extremely poor communication and professionalism, especially for a custom, time-sensitive order tied to an important family event. A first birthday cannot be redone. They had to contact their delivery person for an update and all they could provide me was a rough estimate. This wasn't very professional as we had rented out a venue for an event. We had guests arriving already and had to wait around without certainty. Thankfully it came 30 mins after the original promised time but can you imagine the panic of the moment? Design was very well made and cute but as soon as we opened it, one of the legs of the giraffe kept falling off and at that point, we just left it off. I would not recommend the pastries here nor the cake. Honestly, their cake and pastries taste a couple of days old, and the pastries are soggy and old. My niece ordered a chocolate cake on the 4th of July for my birthday. She said she tried to place an order online the day before and the day of, but she could not. So she just called in to see if they had made extras that day. They did, so we went to pick it up. My niece ordered the chocolate cake, which was hard from the outside, dry from the bread, and it didn't have much flavor. Their cake is a little bland and old for my taste. I tried to give them another chance by going back on July 12th. I ordered several pastries. One was a carrot cake and the cream puff. I would not recommend either. The cream puff was soggy and, again, taste like it was a few days ago. I can't even describe what the carrot cake tastes like. It was not good. I did try their mango cake, and that was edible. Nice desserts in a cute cafe! My favorite cake was the mango - it was light and had a good mango flavor. Tiramisu was also really tasty - moist with a delightful coffee flavor. The carrot cake was a bit dense and the icing was hard, but still tasted yummy. The fruit cake was good, but on the drier side. I liked the flavor, though. Enjoyed the pastries so much that I came back for more and visited the shop. The bakery is tucked in the corner of a small shopping center next to Pita Pit. It's quite cozy inside and fills up quickly. While there are small tables inside, there's not much space for seating. There's a galore of pastries to choose from petite cake slices to shortbread cookies and Persian pastries. It was a bit overwhelming. You pay by weight at $17/pound and can get about 6-10 pastries for a pound. I scored 5 petite cake slices, a couple of cream puffs, and the Napoleon which collectively weighed about a pound. Next time I would opt for more of the airy light-weight cream puffs and skip the heavy-weight Napoleon! It was a bit too dense. Service is so so so important and this establishment lacks it whether you call them by phone or visit them in the store. They have good quality sweets if you can get past the attitudes and lack of customer service or care for your patronage. Especially during Persian new year which actually happens every year around the same time - they should be more than fully staffed and ready for the orders instead of telling you 25000 ways of how they may or may not be able to help you. I was down for the latte macchiato, and I also got me a sea salt rice Krispy treat. It took the nice person behind the counter less than thirty seconds to whip-up this latte, which kind of made sense especially considering that I was the only customer in the store. I would definitely characterize this place as a bakery rather than a cafe, and they have several displays of cakes and baked goods. When we saw they do custom cakes it was an easy sell! The prices were standard as they are doing a custom cake for you so don't be surprised when you have to spend a nice dime. The options were endless. They are quick to respond via email as well so if you have questions don't hesitate to reach out to them. We decided on a cake that was decorated with flowers all over it and the cake was red velvet. We even got to customize the color of the flowers. The red velvet was the best that I have ever had! I stopped by yesterday to pick up some treats and the place was fully stocked, tidy, and busy! They do weight based pricing, so for example the small cake pieces are $17/lb. There are 4 different box sizes to choose from, I chose box size 3 and once filled up it cost $32. You can see how much I got in the photo. The place has a nice variety of cakes and cookies, as well as middle eastern desserts, so you can try a bit of everything. (It was also too bitter for me - but I'm a coffee wimp.) We tried 6 different items. The pastries and coffee set us back about $13 We tried 3 of their cake squares: hazelnut chocolate cake), tiramisu (yellow cake), and coconut (yellow cake). None of these were overly sweet (positive) but none had spectacular flavor(negative). The tiramisu was almost tasteless. We didn't finish any of them. The mini eclair was delicious and we would definitely order again. The mini palmier was also outstanding, crispy and sweet. Finally, we tried an almond roll (cookie). I love the Gaithersburg location of the Classic Bakery a lot. I've always had a wonderful experience with ordering their cakes there. It saddens me that this location did not live up to those standards. I will say though that the store itself was very clean and the employees were friendly. I ordered the matcha green tea latte and a variety of pastries - mini oreo cake, fruit cake, and baklava. The matcha latte lacked that strong matcha green tea flavor. It seemed watered down. I found out about this bakery through a Groupon deal. I purchased the chocolate cake deal. The cakes are baked/decorated in a Maryland bakery and delivered to this location; customers are requested to pick up the cake no earlier than 12 pm. The bakery has Middle Eastern and Eastern European roots, which is a nice mix when it comes to baked goods. They moved from their location where Great Beginnings was in Gaithersburg and now in Rockville, on Gaither Road (off Shady Grove Road). Their main selling point is that their cakes are not as sweet as many other places and their frosting doesn't have that overbearing cream cheese/butter taste and smell. I get all rave reviews when I bring their cakes and always get the question: Where did you get this cake from? Stella? Nope, its from Classic Bakery! They have lots of cookies on their display as well as some cakes that you can just pick up. They can add wording to the cake too. Most of the time though, you will need to call ahead and place an order to get a custom cake. During this Covid-19 pandemic, they offered free delivery (you have to enter a code that they share), which we used and was real happy they offered this service. BE AWARE DO NOT GO TO THIS BAKERY Our whole experience with this bakery was terrible and unacceptable from the moment we placed our order. Trying to place an order took way too long because of the late responses to emails and requests. We even stopped by the bakery itself to talk to them about the order since we were not being responded to on time. When we finally placed the order we emailed them pictures as a reference to how we wanted the order to look like and were told that they would make it look like the pictures. The day of the party came and delivery for our order was set for 12 pm since we had guests coming at 3. 1 hour after the promised delivery time we began contacting the bakery asking where our order was. They tried to assure us that it was on its way and that it would be there soon. The delivery came at 3 pm, 3 hours after the promised delivery time. The driver told us that he got into an accident on the way here and when he opened up the door to the van we were shocked at what was in there. The cake had completely fallen apart. Macaroons were broken and nothing looked like the reference pictures that we had sent. They whole order looked like one of those Pinterest fails that you would laugh at even writing "Class 2019" instead of "Class of 2019". The driver waited for US to take everything out of the van including the heavy cake. Of course, we were unhappy with what we had gotten and immediately took pictures and contacted the bakery via email and phone. On the phone we talked to the owner of the bakery and he apologized for the service and promised that he would issue a full refund for the order. But a refund wasn't gonna help our situation. The dessert table looked like a mess and it was completely embarrassing having to take pictures with the ugly products. 2 weeks later, we still did not receive our refund. We contacted the bakery and our conversations has been filled with false promises. The owner was the most disrespectful person I have ever talked to. After being yelled at over the phone he sent us an unprofessional, disrespectful email again promising us a refund. It's been nearly two weeks after that and we still have not received any refund and we will now end this with a dispute. Below I have attached pictures of the order that we received. Their signature fruit cake was good, moist cake, not overly sweet. Personally... I recommend their chocolate cake! Chocolate truffle cake is divine. If you like chocolate cake, this one perfect! For lunch I decided on the Half Soup and single Sandwich (Turkey Brie & Cranberry). Total was $10.45 and to be honest I won't be back for any sandwiches. The oreo cake on the other hand was soft, cakey, and tasted of oreos, very good! This place is a bakery first and foremost I've only tried a very small portion of their entire menu.
