Turkish Breakfast Plate
Jason S.

I had the Turkish Breakfast Plate. The bread was fresh, and the sunny side was nice and runny. Overall, it was a wonderful, different dish to start your day. The service was friendly and quick, and the ambiance was vibrant. Altogether, this is a good place if you want to try something new.

Recently visited Simit Turkish Bakery and Breakfast place. Was super pleasantly surprised to experience an authentic or near authentic Turkish breakfast. Mine was not the actual Turkish Breakfast but the Simit breakfast with potatoes ñ. The Turkish breakfast comes with Olives, Cheese and yummy red pepper cream. Turkish Coffee was spectacular. The service was very friendly and fast. Its a small place so seating is limited but weekday mornings are ok. Definitely a repeat.

Super Delicious fresh Simit and Tea on a rainy day. Very clean space and extremely gracious staff and services.

Simit Bakery is pretty busy so it might be hard to find a table during peak hours. My Turkish friend took me here to try some Turkish pastries. They also have breakfast and lunch plates too. The San Sebastian Cheesecake was SO LIGHT and CREAMY!!! I feel like I could've eaten 2 pieces. The Baklava was also deliciously flaky and sweet! The bourek with spinach and cheese was EXTRA flaky! The pogacha with feta cheese and dill was a smaller, denser type of pastry. The stuffed bagel with sucuk and mozzarella was quite soft on the inside and sucuk is like a beef pepperoni. All the pastries are heated up for you. The Gozleme was like a flaky and flat stuffed pancake. The Manti (Turkish dumplings) were a lot smaller than I expected and filled with beef. Just imagine really tiny tortellini underneath all the creamy yogurt sauce. It was also my first time trying Turkish Coffee (served with Turkish delight)! I had mine with a bit of sugar and it was very rich and smooth? Overall it's a great place to stop by for some coffee and pastries and definitely get the cheesecake!

Met up with out of town friends at Simit Bakery. Their original location is on West Broadway. This one is beside Delara Restaurant and Hi-Nippon Japanese Restaurant. We dropped in on a Wednesday (around noon). Order and pay first at the counter. There's half a dozen tables inside along with two small sidewalk tables outside. The menu is split into bagel sandwiches, breakfast & lunch, pastries and desserts. Prices for some things have jumped significantly. - Turkish coffee ($3.95) - strong and packs a punch. - Spinach-feta bourek ($6.25) - delicious. Great filling and flaky pastry. - Feta-parsley su-bourek ($6.75) - reminded us of a light, no frills lasagna. Would taste better if they heated it up. Least favourite out of everything we tried. - Olive & mozarella stuffed bagel ($6.95) - still as good as I remember. Great texture and satisfying bite. - Simit breakfast plate ($15.25) - there isn't a substantial amount on the plate, unless you're a light eater. - Triangle baklava ($4.95) - light, not too sweet. - San Sebastian cheesecake ($7.95 slice) - if you're a dessert person, this is a must get. Their cheesecake is perfection. Decent Turkish eats at SB. 3.5 stars.

Visited @simitbakerycafe post final exam and it took me back to ~15 years ago when I visited Turkey they had Turkish music playing and a variety of Turkish baked goods & breakfast dishes to choose from what I liked about this place was that the food was healthy and reminded me of home cooked breakfast dishes. The Turkish coffee is served with a Turkish delight which was delicious. They have limited seating so either go when it's not rush hour or be ready to wait a bit for a table. We went during the week and at around 11am so we were able to get a table by the window. Also, because of their location parking can be challenging during rush hour. Service was fast and all the staff was friendly.

Turkish coffee and hot chocolate

Added this place after an instagram influencer hyped it up. And we are so glad we came. We ordered the Turkish coffee and hot chocolate. The Turkish coffee was served with a Turkish delight which excites me because of Narnia haha. But the coffee itself was rich and strong. We ordered the "soft bagel" which was soooo good. I could order a dozen and toss all my other bagels out. Their cheesecake is definitely their winner. Soft, creamy, and delicious! It literally melts in your mouth once you take a bite. Dangerously not sweet at all. If I could've, I would have taken an entire cake home. I've never had cheesecake that good before.

What a treat in the middle of fourth street shopping in Kitsilano. I'm a fan of the Turkish tea, the sesame twist (a type of bagel) and bourek. Their breakfast plates looked bomb but we wanted a snack. I wasn't a fan of the baklava sadly, but the staff was so kind they swapped it for a semolina cake which was lovely. A great Turkish bakery!

Excellent baking, sweet and savory, and the best coffee I have had in a cafe. No wonder they're so busy!

Oh man was it amazing, got the cardamom coffee to go with a piece of Helva for my little and the Chocolate baklava for me and hubs to split! The server was so nice and made sure to inform me the right way to just sip the coffee as it's not like regular drinking coffee- he asked I preferred sweet coffee and I said yes so he added a little sugar and it was just beautiful! My little demolished the Helva and hubs and I enjoyed our chocolate baklava at the end of a very fun but busy day! The shop it's self is small but beautiful as were the other customers enjoying their coffee made room for my little at the counter to look at all the treats in the case! Can't wait to head back and try some of the other yummy treats they have to offer!

How I heard of this place: On a visit to Bellingham a couple of years ago, my sister and mother…read moretold us about this new Turkish cafe downtown with sweet reminiscences of our visits to Turkey. We simply had to give it a try. And continue coming back. Type of cuisine: Turkish fare - from simit and borek, to cardamom or pistachio infused Turkish coffee, apricot and apple teas, baklava and lokum. We have always loved the foods, mostly imported directly from Turkey. Ambiance: Sweet and cozy, the space is full of beautiful Turkish art/craft - from lighting to seating, from merchandise to the tasty treats served, we love our bay window benches and small, tiled tables that barely hold everything we order. The brother-owners are always wreathed in smiles and humble, grateful service. The music is soft, but always a surprise - sometimes Turkish, sometimes rock, sometimes jazzy, always fun and unobtrusive. We also love the huge barrel "tables" used as outdoor seating under a covered "patio". What I ordered: I was sad to hear that they no longer make/serve their refreshing and lovely apricot tea, so I chose a sweet cardamom coffee. My sister each chose a turkish coffee and pistachio coffee. A hot chocolate for my husband and two apple teas for the children. We ordered one of each selection of baklava available - pistachio, walnut, chocolate pistachio, halva and another walnut treat. Not to mention peach and blackberry lokum. We also ordered a potato & cheese sandwich; they ran out of the bread so substituted potato borek topped with cheese for our savory snack. What I loved: Always the service; quiet, humble, spot on. The coffee is truly magnificent and fully takes you back to Turkey. The baklava is sweet and soaked in honey, just like the cafes in Istanbul, and the beautiful lighting mesmerizes each of us every time. Why I loved it: It's always a little escape entering the doors of Ashuri, and like a mini vacation in a home away from home. Cost: Average

It's especially good if you have a group of people dining with you. That way you can share different dishes and enjoy lots of different flavors. The Mixed Plate is especially good for that. I have seen from their menu online that they also offer something called Padisha's Table which requires a minimum of 4 adults ordering it, and costs $36 per person. For this visit we had the following: Beyti Sarma Small Mixed Plate Cheese Lovers Pide Lamb Durum Wrap Veggie Guvech Turkish Coffee Turkish Tea The Small Mixed Plate came with a humungous slab of lavash bread! It was crazy how big this piece of bread was. We were a group of 5 people and this Small Mixed Plate by itself could have been our lunch. It was such a huge piece of bread. Sooo good though. They baked it in the oven until it got all nice and puffy, and it came to our table piping hot. I always enjoy this Mixed Plate starter. It comes with such a nice variety of dips. My absolute favorite dip though is the Baba Ghannush. I think next time I eat at this restaurant, I will add on a separate order of the Baba Ghannush so I enjoy more of it than what comes in the Mixed Plate starter! I loved my Veggie Guvech. The veggies were roasted and baked to perfection. I'm someone who likes my food soft, so I was happy to find that the veggies in this dish were nice and soft. The menu description says that this dish comes with Lavash. I didn't see any more Lavash bread come other than the huge slab that came with our Small Mixed Plate. Perhaps they did this on purpose though. The one huge piece of bread is equivalent to several smaller pieces that you might get in other restaurants. I certainly didn't need anything more than the huge piece of bread we'd already been served, so was very glad not to see anything else come with my Veggie Guvech. If you're a cheese love, you can't go wrong with the Cheese Lovers Pide. It's our daughter's "go to" dish when we order from this restaurant. She really loves her cheese! The people who ordered Lamb Durum Wrap said the lamb inside their wraps was very moist and tender. I do recall also hearing good things about lamb dishes from this restaurant in the past, when we ordered takeout from them. The Turkish Coffee and Tea come in some beautifully designed cups. I have travelled to Turkey in the past and enjoyed a hot apple tea in a Turkish Tea cup. The cup that was used here was very much like the cup I drank from in Turkey. I never had coffee when I was in Turkey, but judging from how unique the design of the cup here was, it's probably a very traditional design for a Turkish coffee cup since the Turkish Tea cup was just like the ones I saw in Turkey. Highly recommend this place! There aren't a lot of Turkish restaurants within Metro Vancouver. This place is an absolute gem!

Absolutely dynamite!!! Crispy, cheesy, and addictive. My dish: Alinazik Kebab - Grilled lamb over sauced grilled eggplant and yogurt, served with salad and bread. My husband's dish: Ground Beef Pide - Savoury flatbread topped with seasoned ground beef, fresh herbs, and sesame seeds. This was excellent -- super tasty and satisfying. My son's drink: Ayran - A traditional salty yogurt drink with mint. Not a hit with him Too salty and sour for his taste, but we appreciated the experience of trying something new. The servers kindly brought him a Coke instead and didn't charge us, which was really nice. My son's dinner: Adana Kebab (spicy) - Skewered spicy ground beef with rice, bulgur, salad, and bread. Fantastic!!! The beef was fresh and flavourful, and the rice and bulgur were soooo good. Service & atmosphere: It was pretty packed for Valentine's Day, so service was a bit hit and miss and slower than usual -- but totally understandable. The atmosphere made up for it, especially with the live Turkish music. It genuinely felt like being on vacation for the night, and I loved that feeling. Overall: Definitely worth the wait. Even offered to give a bag to carry both the baklava and the leftover food from the restaurant. Took them back to our hotel across the street and ate them in the room. I was a little disappointed in the chocolate one. It was good, but a little dry for my tastes. The hazelnut was very good, but the layers came apart when eating it. (not fresh?). I had the cappuccino which was really good. Smooth coffee. I just disliked the fact it was served in a paper cup despite us dining in. So we were also charged the cup fee. Again, the fee is not helping to save the environment by reducing waste when shop owners are serving drinks in paper/plastic cups.
