Visited for their fluffy pancakes and they definitely did not disappoint! They're a bit on the expensive end but the portion was also large so it's a nice size to split between friends :) As warned, the pancakes do take a while to make but they did offer for us to get our drinks first. They also give a buzzer so it was quite nice to just sit at a table and wait. The interior is a lot more spacious than most cafes so it's easy to find a seat. Also as a note, the parking lot signs say max 30 minutes but the cafe workers informed us that this limit does not apply for their customers. We did go on a weekend so I'm not sure if this is always true.
Greeted warmly by the front counter staff as we perused the menu. Wife orders the croissant french toast and I the waffle brunch. We also got a couple drinks I forgot what wifey ordered but I got a latte. They give you a buzzer to retrieve your order when it is completed. Wife's croissant french toast first bite was good it was filled with banana and strawberries but as you go along and eat more the sweeter your mouth gets. Good for those with a sweet tooth. My waffle brunch came with waffle, smokie sausage m, fried sunny side egg and a mini bowl salad of sliced cucumber, tomatoes, avocado topped with sprouts. The waffle itself very fluffy though I wish the exterior was crispy. The sausage was a sausage nothing special, they score it crisscross on the top and it was cooked well. The salad, I think had a dressing on it which I think Gave it an odd taste. It wasn't gross nor was it good just every bite I was wondering what is that odd flavor. Over all decent cafe. Good if you're local and nearby but I won't make a special trip just to go.
Fluffy pancakes at hiel cafe is so good, this cafe is spacious! it was quite delicious I got their signature soufflé pancake with two fluffy pancakes with a light whipping cream and seasonal fruits, include raspberry, grapes, blueberries and strawberries which were my fave it was actually sweet! For $18.99 the pancake was fresh and warm. I liked how airy it was and I do believe they make good pancakes, not too sweet and quite pillowy. We also got the bulgogi panini that is grilled. The bread was toasted nicely with the grill marks and quite crispy, I liked the beef and asked to sub the cheddar cheese for mozzarella which they accommodated that was really nice. I really enjoy their house salad and the dressing that goes with it, very Asian style and good brunch for $14.75 !
This is a dish worth indulging for every week. What more can you ask for, rich and tasty cream, fresh garnishes, and a light, ethereal souffle pancake, and it's freaking huge. Glad to wait 20 minutes for an amazing dessert meal made to order while we take in some amazing espresso drinks. The location is suprisingly big, easy to get to with plenty of free parking. And the friendly charm of the staff is just icing on the cake.
Both food and service were terrific. This is a cute little cafe that offers some delicious and unique soufflé type pancakes. Ordered the tiramisu soufflé pancake, crème brûlée soufflé pancake, and a bulgogi panini. All were amazing. The soufflé pancakes were super fluffy, with amazing flavors. I especially enjoyed the tiramisu one, as it came with a shot of espresso to pour on top. Although I'm not entirely sure it was just a pure espresso shot or not...but it surely enhanced the flavors of the pancake. The bulgogi panini was equally delicious. It came with a side salad, and the salad dressing was so good. It reminds me of the salads you would get at some Japanese restaurants (like a ginger miso or something), but I've never had one this good before. The ladies working there were also very kind. Great place to eat if you're in this part of town!
HIEL Café The Soufflé Pancake $16.50 Prawn & Smoked Salmon Sandwich $12.50 Review: I think this is a really solid café! Since 2020, I've been seeing this place all over TikTok and have been dying to go! Luckily, I was able to have the chance to go visit recently! I would like to start off with the soufflé pancake which is what this café went viral for! The dish includes two HUGE fluffy pancakes which is topped off with a delicious sweet whipped cream and fruit! I would like to note that this soufflé pancake has a very "eggy" taste which is unlike any other pancakes that I've had. I do really enjoy the taste of egg yolks so it was very tasty for me nevertheless! The whipped cream was the perfect sweetness and texture as well! As for the sandwich, I was pleasantly surprised! I usually hate sandwiches and salad but this was very different! I love how the sandwich was stuffed with huge juicy jumbo prawns and smoked salmon I think their choice of cheese wasn't the most ideal as it was a bit strong and overpowered the prawn and smoked salmon taste. I would've liked if a milder cheese like mozzarella was used!! Overall, I would definitely come again and I would love to try all the different flavours of soufflé pancakes that are offered on the menu! I would like to point out though that the ambience and vibe of the café wasn't as cute and aesthetic as I would have hoped Rating: 8.5/10
Updated my review - I'm not sure how to quote the previous one. We came on a Saturday and had a chance to try their waffles and soufflé pancakes as a family. They take a long time to cook - often 25 min or more - but dang it a worth it. Oreo waffles Strawberry waffles Crème brûlée soufflé These three were all amazing. Huge dishes and I had the crème brûlée. The flavor is AMAZING. Rich, sweet but not too sweet, very fluffy, light. I would have them again in a heartbeat. I almost don't feel like telling others but this place is the bomb for sure.
I came here twice already! The first time my husband and I ordered a matcha latte (remember to ask them NOT to put sugar....it was quite sweet in terms of matcha latte!), soufflé pancakes abs croissant French toast. The soufflé pancakes were amazing!!! Two pancakes were in a dish. Very fluffy and soft and tasty!! The cafe also gave a lot of fruits. Indeed two people could share the soufflé pancakes but we also ordered the croissant French toast. We were quite stuffed by the time we finished both dishes. the croissant French toast was great as well!! We rarely saw cafes or restaurants would make croissants as French toast. It meant they soaked the croissants into egg mixtures abs pan fried them like the regular French toast. We ordered regular breakfasts - croissant sandwich (with ham and egg) and brunch waffles (egg, smokey and cheesy sausage, salad with avocado, tomatoes and cucumbers, and waffles with maple syrup). The quality of all these food was okay but we could have these better somewhere else (at other western restaurants). Overall, everything is good. But I highly recommend trying their soufflé pancakes. That's their signature dish here!! They have a small parking lot right next to the building. Free for half an hour. If you do dine in, you can park on the streets. Lots of free street parking in the neighbourhood. Customer service was good. Pricing was reasonable. I would definitely want to come back for the soufflé pancakes.

I have been here a few times, usually on Saturday mornings. It was always quiet, maybe they served more of a lunch crowd? I like the quietness though I hope it will not mean closing down in near future. They made good flat white. I also liked the morning croissant which had bacon, cheese, ham and egg. At $5 it was a good deal. The matcha souffle pancake was nice though it was not my thing. I did not really care for the texture. Too soft and wobbly, but that was the whole thing -- being a souffle pancake. The matcha taste was not very strong either. I will like to come back to try the poke and sandwiches next time. The parking at the small lot was only for 30 minutes (not sure about the underground parking). Street parking a couple of blocks over offer 2 hours or unlimited.
I loved everything here! The mood was so nice: the noise level was low with relaxing music, and the space is open and just effortlessly pretty (and it's on the corner so there are two walls of windows, yay for natural light). The seating inside looked pretty comfortable, but I chose to sit at one of their two outdoor tables. Although their patio space is elevated away from the sidewalk so you have space, and their chairs are also comfortable, the ambiance just isn't as pleasing as it is inside because the block isn't the most scenic and it's missing the music, but I'll always choose outdoor seating and still enjoyed it out there! The people were so nice. I took a while to decide what I wanted and had a few questions about the drinks, and the barista was very sweet and patient. When I went back inside to bring my plates in before leaving, both of the baristas thanked me enthusiastically. They bring the food and drink to your table, and mine came out pretty quickly. I got the Veggies and Brie Panini, a slice of Red Velvet Cake, and an Einspänner. I'm usually more inclined towards tea and with so many tea drinks, it was a tough choice, but the Einspänner called to me and it was very nice! The sweet cream layer was very rich but the drink as a whole wasn't too heavy and the sweetness to the cream was just a light touch to smooth everything out. Kind of a unique drink and I'd highly recommend it! The panini was also very good and a little bit different from the veggie paninis I usually get because it had fresh veggies instead of roasted, but I thought the crunch and brightness was nice. I really liked the herbiness of the sandwich. Also the dressing they used on the side salad was so good, it was kind of similar to the ginger dressing you get on the side salads you get at lots of Japanese restaurants, but more complex. The cake was a delicious way to end the meal! The cake was super fluffy and the cream cheese frosting wasn't too sweet. Everything was very nicely presented but I thought the cake was especially pretty. The prices are reasonable for the portion sizes (which are neither particularly big or small) and the high quality.

We came here for the souffle pancakes but ended up enjoying the other food more. 1) creme brulee souffle pancake: 3/5 2) bulgolgi panini: 5/5 3) croissant french toast: 4/5 Also got the matcha latte and white hot mocha. Both were yummy. There's also a small parking area right next to the building. Was pretty full but we were lucky and got a spot easily. There's at least 1 handicap spot too. read more
Went here for brunch with my family as we were nearby and saw the good reviews on Yelp. We parked in the parking lot that stated a 30 minute limit, but I confirmed later there is no limit on the weekends. The cafe looks like a fairly typical family run cafe. You order at the counter and the food is called out when it is ready. It was a fairly busy afternoon so they ran of pagers and resorted to calling out names. We tried the following: - Spanish Latte: Good - Morning Croissant: Ok. Cute and affordable but something I can easily make myself - Creme Brûlée Soufflé Pancake: OK. Tasted fine, but not the lightest soufflé pancakes I've had - Dubai Chocolate Soufflé Pancake: OK. Nothing too memorable. Service was the sore spot. The staff are nice but food came out incredibly slow. The latte and croissant took 20 min. When they delivered it, they said our pancakes would came out after. After waiting 35 min and noticing other customers that arrived after us getting their pancakes, we found out they forgot our order. They needed another 15 min to complete our pancake order - that is a total of 1 hour of waiting. They did volunteer to refund us for the pancakes, which is the minimum they needed to do after such a long wait. Overall, not great. Even if they hadn't forgotten our order, I wouldn't give more than 3 stars based on the food. If they hadn't offered a refund, it would've been a one star review. read more
A cozy little cafe at the corner of 6th Street and 10th Avenue in Burnaby. It is also in the little mall with a doctor's office, life lab, insurance company and other businesses. It has good coffees and teas and although we didn't have any food, the food items looked delicious. The servers were friendly but they were very busy. We would return here again. It can get pretty busy at times and difficult to find a seat. We went at 1:00 pm midweek and got one small table for 2 that 3 of us sat around. The place is tidy and has nice decor. read more

Ordered the soufflé pancake and it was exactly what I wanted! Heavy on the whip cream and plenty of fruits to go with it. Paired with their oat milk latte and it was a perfect breakfast! The cafe itself has plenty of room inside where I was able to work for a bit. Highly recommend when you're in the New West/Burnaby area looking for a local coffee spot! read more
Another Cafe to get souffle pancake ! It was a 20 min wait for the pancake but well worth it We also got the waffles (nothing special) but the sausage was scored nicely. It was my first time trying out soufflé pancake and it was so nice to find Hiel to cross off my list and I love how it is conveniently located in Burnaby! We ordered the Crème Brûlée Soufflé Pancake + Toffee Nut Latte. That crème brûlée topping on the pancake and banana was such a great combination and adds that extra creaminess to the dessert! The pancake was cooked perfectly - very light, fluffy and moist! This picture honestly doesn't show you how massive this dish is! It was the size of a full cake and there are two pancake stacked!! Very very generous portion! I'd be sure to visit here again for their other flavours and eats! read more
I visited Hiel Cafe to meet up with a friend I haven't seen in a while. The decorations are cute and their customers are pretty quiet that afternoon, even though the cafe was almost full. I actually prefer that over being in a loud space. We got some warm drinks, and they were reasonably priced. Our drinks came at a decent amount of time, even with a line up. I really enjoyed my London fog and the cookie was so cute!! The washroom is just outside of the cafe. Service is friendly. I'll come back again! read more
I came by Hiel Cafe to try out their signature soufflé pancakes. I would recommend calling ahead of time to order as normally it's a 30-45 minute wait even if during the off hour on a weekday. Overall the soufflé pancakes were very jiggly however I found them to be a bit too wet and preferred it to be more solid. Overall not bad but I prefer Fufu or Gram's version of the soufflé pancakes. read more

Love coming here on a rainy day, perfect ambiance. Big windows for natural light, plants galore, and classic cafe music. The staff are all super polite. Everything off the menu has been fresh and flavourful. Personally, I recommend the salmon poke bowl, and the caramel brûlée soufflé pancake (SO FLUFFY.. one of their signature dishes!). read more
Hiel cafe is a nice little gem! I feel like it's in a quiet area, so it's a great place to get some quick studying/work done while grabbing a coffee or a bite. It's a very casual spot, and you order at the front and pay first; then you grab your seat. Onto the food! They've really managed to turn such simple dishes into something more! We tried their morning croissant and soufflé pancake. Both were really delicious and the portions of the pancake are enormous - perfect for sharing! I highly recommend dropping by here to try their menu. I know they're on Ubereats, but I feel like it's worth the stop by so you get your food fresh and warm. read more

Good cafe for brunch/lunch, catching up with friends or studying! Quite a few tables and very spacious. A friend and I came around 1pm and ordered the matcha souffle pancakes, a chicken sandwich and an iced dark mocha. Pancakes took around 25+ min to make. They were soft, airy and jiggly. However, there was not much matcha taste to it. Chicken sandwich on whole wheat bread was really good. Good proportions of chicken to veggies and bread! Not too dry and had enough sauce. Iced dark mocha was SO good! Not too sweet and the bitterness of the coffee complimented well with the dark chocolate. I'd just come here for a coffee run! Definitely should give this place a try! read more
I liked that the matcha latte was very strong, the flavour of the matcha pancake not so much. The soufflés were a lot larger than others places I've been to and just as fluffy/jiggly. It's a cute shop and the dishes are reasonably priced. Would come again if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Hidden gem in Burnaby! Around 10min away from Columbia or New Westminster Skytrain station. Even tho it was our first visit, but WE LOVED this place~ Large space, comfortable, friendly staff. The best highlights were still the amazing food we ordered. Grill chicken sandwich which was totally beyond our expectation, really delicious. Whole wheat bread, packed with salad, tomatoes, cheese, house sauce. Also comes with house special salad on the side too. Sweet Peach Ade, definitely one of our new favourite drink. It kind of tasted like Meynard Fuzzy Peach Candy combined in a light lemon soda. Matcha latte, a tad on the bitter side, but pairs well to balance some sweetness from the soufflé pancake. Next, the Jiggly and soft soufflé pancakes! I was so shocked by the size of this hugeeee 2 pieces of matcha soufflé pancakes~ so light and fluffy, melts in your mouth. Also beautifully plated with fresh strawberry, whipped cream, and matcha powder toppings. Great cafe to come for brunch, some coffee and desserts, cuz they even have Korean Bingsoo "shaved ice" too. Watch out for the parking. I don't recommend the side lot or underground parking as it's only 1/2 hour. Not enough time to enjoy a leisurely coffee here. Also, don't take 10th Avenue heading east because you can't turn left onto 6th street. I finally found street parking after narrowly missing someone after I exited the full parking lot. Luckily he jumped out of the way. Yikes. I've been dying to try a souffle pancake in a cafe, but have been reluctant to pay the high prices for a pancake. Anyways, I bit the bullet and paid almost $20 for a coffee and pancake. Do I regret it? Nope. It was jiggly and fluffy just like I expected. This totally satisfied my souffle pancake dreams and more. It was light and fluffy as a cloud and the sweet cream and berries brought it to another level. Wow! I could eat this on a regular basis, but my pocket and waistline wouldn't allow it. Darn. Love the jazz playing in the background and the space was very spacious and airy. Wish it was a little closer to me, but that's probably a good thing. Oh, btw they use timbertrain coffee beans. I stopped by on a weekday and was surprised at how quiet the cafe was. My friend and I each ordered some soufflé pancakes. I ordered the matcha soufflé pancakes and a latte. The pancakes took about 20 minutes to be prepared. Latte tasted as expected. However, the pancakes were great! The pancakes were super fluffy and jiggly. The sweet cream sauce paired nicely with the pancakes. Definitely worth trying once if you have not tried this type of pancake. There is plenty of seating available. Ambiance is cozy and casual. Parking is a bit of a challenge. There is half an hour parking at the building's street level parking lot. There is more parking underground. Hiel Cafe is located at the busy intersection of 6th Street and Tenth Avenue on the Burnaby/New Westminster border. Due to the traffic, and despite the parking lot, it can be difficult to find parking since street parking is restricted and the parking lot always seems full from the rest of the business complex that it's located in. On my first visit, I decided to try their Egg Avo Croissant ($8.25) as well as a London Fog. Their presentation is on point with a beautifully plated croissant filled to the brim with thinly sliced avocado, egg salad, and cheese. The London Fog was deliciously creamy... I don't normally order this drink but I think I'm converted. On a return visit, I ordered the Tuna Poke ($12) along with a Matcha Latte. As with my first visit, plating was pleasing to the eye and the environment was inviting. The poke is not pre-marinated and comes with soy and wasabi on the side. Still, it was an enjoyable lunch with plenty of cubed pieces of tuna sashimi along with an assortment of tomato, corn, peas, pickled radish, seaweed, avocado, carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, shredded nori, and pickled radish on top of the rice. The following week, I came back to grab a quick sandwich and wound up ordering the Croissant Panini ($9) with ham, egg, lettuce, tomato, and sprouts as well as a Matcha Latte (bit disappointed that there was no latte art this time around). While the croissant has serious cross-hatched grill marks on the top, I found the ham on the inside was still cold. The croissant was still flaky but I think I preferred their non-grilled croissant better so I'll have to remember that for next time I visit. I returned on Hallowe'en for some eats and decided to try their Soufflé Pancakes served with strawberries, grapes, and whipped cream and paired it with a Hot Chocolate (complete with a Hallowe'en-inspired art on the top). It takes about 15 minutes for them to make this dish so be prepared for a bit of a wait. Ohhh... these pancakes were so soft, puffy and jiggly! When the rainy weather finally arrived in late November, I came back for their London Fog and a Tuna Sandwich served on whole wheat with lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, and cheddar cheese. This time around, however, I decided to try their adjacent room which has a long, wooden communal table. This would make a great place to meet up with friends or to get a bit more privacy from the rest of the cafe. Dropped by during Christmas Eve to grab a quick lunch... Prawn and Salmon Sandwich ($11.25) with a London Fog ($5). The plump shrimp and smoked salmon was accompanied with lettuce, sprouts, and cheese on multigrain bread and turned out quite nice. One of my favourite cafes in the area. read more
I drive pass this coffee shop every morning but never notice it's there until recently. The shop is spacious and has a lot of tables. However, the furniture and decorations are quite out-dated. Got a Matcha latte , a Caramel Macchiato , an Egg & Avocado Croissant and soue pancakes . The drinks were pretty good, they are not too sweet which I love . My fave was the soufflepancake pancakes. They are so fluffy and airy. They come with whipped cream and berries . Be prepared to wait around 30mins for these pancakes , but it's worth it! But I have to say the sandwich was quite disappointing; it wasn't warmed up and the salad has no dressing . read more
