Last time I had Houjicha orange chocolate latte which was amazing, however, it was not available this time, so, I got Lavender Matcha latte. I think it depends on barista. Next time I will try different item.

Noise level is quite minimal with the quiet chatter here and there, making it a good spot to get some work done while people watching. My go-to's for ordering are their matcha drinks for sure. Strong matcha taste and the right amount of sweetness. I've tried the original matcha and the ube matcha before and both were pretty good. If I'm feeling like drinking coffee, I liked their dirty ube latte! I do prefer my coffee on the sweeter side, so something to keep in mind if you're into darker roasts. Also had their hazelnut latte and that was on the bitter side (for my tastes). We also ordered a matcha cookie the last time we were there and it had a strong matcha taste as well. On the sweeter side though since there was also white chocolate/macadamia bits. Would pair well with an espresso. Would definitely come again (as I have already)! Great place for a coffee/snack on Main St while thrifting/shopping.

One thing we noticed at many places, not just this shop, were that many business up here use paper straws. Not a fan! They still have some Covid protocols in place with cubicle partitions for each table. They have a wide array of herbal teas, and tea lemonade. We ordered the Lavender lemonade and Rose lemonade because I saw them on their Instagram account. The photos shows a neat concept of putting the drink inside a plastic bag, however they had stopped serving the drinks in that concept. Instead we ordered in. Unfortunately, the drinks were very sweet. The lavender was food colouring and syrup, which was hard to get down without worrying about having getting a headache. However, I managed to finish it but I'm unlikely going to get that again. The cafe was filled with students working on their school work and so the vibe is very academic. There is little ambiance if you want to meet up socially without feeling like your disturbing students.

Met some friends here for a quickie lunch today…read more How refreshing to go to a place in Van where there is ample free street parking. Right off the bat, I was impressed. This tiny café reminded me of the boho-esque holes in the wall that I used to frequent when I attended McGill in the early '80's. Small, hippie-ish, fresh pastries, good coffees, unpretentious vibe, small bistro tables and chairs outside. Nothing fancy, but clean and reliable. All that was missing were the op art posters on the walls. Service was quick. The two young adults behind the counter were efficient but not talkative. (I was surprised to read past reviews mentioning the friendly service. I don't think the guy or the girl behind the counter said two words to me). Oh well. I ordered a chicken ciabatta and a canned soda. I found the prices on a the higher side for what you get (my sandwich was $12.50). That said, the sandwich was fantastic: the bread was perfect, and the chicken and melted cheese were great, with a good ratio to the Dijon and other condiments, too. Just a fresh, delicious sandwich. Bathroom is small but clean and well stocked. Good little local go-to joint for a fast meal or coffee break.

This is a order at cashier spot with no table service so they meet my simple expectations for their service with decent politeness, accuracy and efficiency. Plus i find it convenient that they open as early as 7am. Some of my usual purchases here are the matcha drinks, chocolate croissants and earl grey muffins. I give 5 stars to their matcha and I recommend trying their sipping matcha drink if you are a matcha lover like me. They are quite spacious and you can work on your laptop here but it can get busy. It's not my first choice as study/work cafe because I prefer cafes with quiet corners with outlets or relaxing soft music and I find this spot has more of a hipster ambiance and is more ideal as a chill place for hanging out. Hmm, maybe come here to reply work emails but why overwork here when its vibes are set for unwinding ;-) There are side street parking available -- being able to park close by is a plus. Cafes in location with free parking options are the best, so you can buy items to go or you can choose to stay and relax, without the hassles of metered parking expiring and getting parking tickets. This place sells coffee beans and a variety of higher priced merchandise items, in case you need gift ideas or want the luxury of retail therapy for happy vibes.

I've been to matchsticks before and in various locations and always for takeaway…read more Their baked goods are usually great and their coffee is ok. I actually did some digging and self reflection before writing this as this was some weeks back that I tried to sit with my initials reaction. Popped in around 3pm on a weekday as I was in the area to pick up an americano and some pastries. The 5 minutes that I was around the counter and the interaction between myself and staff (one barista and one cashier) was odd. I made myself sit in a corner to sit with my own feelings post interaction. I'm not going to spend more time ruminating that encounter in detail. However, if one googles the signs and ideology of what a hipster is. I've received pure negative stereotype of a hipster. I found the cashier to me cold and smidge condescending, the barista didn't even acknowledge me, ignored my question and is clearly not deaf or blind when he was calling other patrons drink orders out. This poor Canadian even muttered an accidental thank you when I picked up my drink out of habit. That last one is one me. My 1st world problem of "to be me and be kind to others or straight out be reactionary when put in such situation is going to have me ready for my next battle with a passive aggrissive hipster at their work. ding ding let the battle commence. I'm ready.

Pull apart was lighter than I expected. Other place's pull apart was so buttery, cheesy, however, this one was flaky and buttery, so, if you prefer light texture pull apart, you will like it. Cream cheese filling was nice accent. Pistachio loaf was more dense than I expected. It had pistachio whipped cream on top, so, cream helped loaf texture more smooth. Loaf had strong pistachio flavor. I liked whipped cream and loaf combination. Pesto and mozzalera swirl was a bit too salty for me. Dough was super flaky and buttery, I liked the dough texture so much, but filling could be more minder. Unfortunately, I did not have ferrero rocher danish. I heard that this one was the best. Mousse was so delicious and dough was very flaky and buttery. Overall, I think their pastries are always outstanding and good quality. The place was extremely busy and could not get a table.
