Glad to see this place open up. I've been here several times and the food is always good. The service is okay, but is getting better. They still don't have a great system for getting seated either inside or outside. The communication between the two needs help. The outside seating is really nice with umbrellas with adjustable lighting and heaters as well. Inside it's a mix of booths and tables with a small bar. Here's a food breakdown: Chicken Avocado Cobb Salad - not very green in terms of a salad but it's still pretty good. If you get the dressing on the side, ask for extra. Oven Roasted Tomatoes - one of their under 600 calorie dishes. A friend got this, looked good and she enjoyed it. Angus cheeseburger - this is my go-to meal and it's always good. The burger is a little small (which is fine with me) but melts in your mouth. The fries hit the spot but just aren't as good as the ones at Blue 44. Avocado Toast - very good but still not worth the money. It's just guac on toast... Boneless Short Rib Bar Bite - delicious! So good. Apple Beignets - also delicious. Everyone should try these at least once. Overall Silver is a good, solid restaurant that's a nice add-on to the growing number is this little neighborhood. 4 stars for a pretty solid cafe. A couple friends of ours invited us up Wisconsin Avenue to grab some brunch at Silver recently. Located pretty close to the National Cathedral, Silver is an Americana diner type of venue that serves diner food...but some of it with a twist. We arrived at the venue, which has lots of outside seating (they do a puppy happy hour every week!) and a pretty large interior. The place felt more like a general restaurant than a diner, but the wait staff was all very friendly and quick to offer input on the food and help with anything we needed. After taking a seat at a booth, we started looking over the menu. The things that caught my eye were the spiked milk shakes and the pickle flavor chicken options. Both sounded really good, so I ordered the chunky monkey shake and the pickle chicken and waffles. Our food came out in a standard amount of time (drinks quick, food about 20-30 min later) and all tasted delicious. My shake was very tasty and thick. My chicken and waffles (which didn't include chicken with bones in it thank God) were constructed really well with a ln appropriate amount of buttery syrup to make an absolutely solid dish. Overall, Silver provided us with a good brunch experience. While it probably won't make any DC brunch lists, the food and service combine to make for a dependably good experience. read more

Been going to this location at least 1/month for over 2 years now. Normally I've been quite happy with the food and service. Have ordered various breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items, usually takeout. Recently ordered a cheeseburger , which i've ordered before , and it was almost completely raw. I put "medium" in the order as i always do, but the meat I got was much closer to "very very rare" , at best. The outer edge was a little brown but almost the entire entire was light red, totally gooey and mushy, like when you take ground beef out of a package from the grocery store to shape your own patties for your grill. It looks like it was cooked for maybe 20% of the time that is needed. Manager did not offer a refund or explain what happened. Was an unacceptable response. Will not be returning to this location. read more

The manager Elizabeth was nothing less than stellar with her amazing customer service. She went above and beyond to accommodate me and my request. First time in the other day and absolutely loved it. Was sat immediately outside on a beautiful day which was an automatic plus, menu was large but not overwhelming, just enough to have an option for everyone. Amazing vegetarian and vegan options which is what I am always looking for. Ordered the Rosted Veggies Huevos Rancheros and it was delicious! Those I was with ordered the mushroom omelet, chicken and waffles, and the short rib scramble I believe, and all said their food was delicious. The food is good and I go almost daily for the breakfast ( bacon is excellent). The service is not very inconsistent or always accommodating and the staff are not the nicest so so ( some are nice like my regular waitress Priscilla). I had to ask for catsup from a waiter (mine went missing for 15 minutes , a hostess ( she noticed I was looking for help but never offered to be the one to actually do it) as my waitress went missing for even longer ... The kitchen dropped off the food and no condiments or jelly or coffee. Since this was a clear only management had the condiment authorization I called upon them and the gentleman was able to provide catsup and jelly for my toast. He did agree to comp my meal not bill I paid for the late coffee but I drank a cup earlier sooo.. they did charge a bill and I tipped for all even though again my waitress just took off. In terms of a dig at the gesture of customer service... but not totally yet I digress. I'll be back as it's the only diner in the hood but food is good and they do what they can .. sometimes it's good especially if I'm in P's section (I believe her name is Priscilla)and again excellent bacon and the eggs. I used to go to the Bethesda location but i moved near cathedral so the commute was far, but when i found that they had another location I was delighted. I usually order through doordash. I really like the menu options so no complaints there. My issue is that every time I order a dish that comes with fruit, they ALWAYS forget to add the fruit. Never fails! Sometimes, I call them to remind them to add the fruit which I shouldn't have to do. This last time, I ordered during breakfast so I thought they'd remember bc breakfast dishes usually come with fruit. Big mistake. They forget yet again. Super annoying!! Solid! It's a very consistent and pleasing brunch experience but it's not necessarily destination dining which I usually give 4 stars to - it's very good, not great! That said, the staff is usually 4 + *s. The greeters and waiters are some of the best in town. The Bloody Mary is phenomenal and the ambiance is a nice upscale diner (tiny tvs, but you're not there to watch anything). The food is very good, but I've never been blown away (and, as it is still a diner, why should I be?) usually settling on the huevos rancheros, the excellent Oaxaca omelette, excellent corn/clam chowder, very good scallops with nods to the french toast and pineapple pancakes on occasion. Food is good and at a good price point (for DC). Everything is S-O-L-I-D, solid and that's not a criticism. The wings are a nice change of pace from Buffalo-style, but, generally, I find their starter menu a bit short. Overall, you will probably not be disappointed and will like their food, service and prices but not bowled-over by anything. Consistency gets it to 4 stars along with the service. read more

I have been to silver diner about three times and would give all experiences four stars. However, I will speak about my experience there two nights ago. They are very COVID safe, with outdoor seating and heaters. I went for happy hour and got some great, cheap food and drinks with my friends. Each and every item we ordered was absolutely amazing. Lamb sliders, wings, bruschetta, and lots more. (We ate a lot). Most of the staff there was friendly, aside from our waiter. Not the friendliest, however, I can understand that waitressing, especially now, is difficult, so we tried to be empathetic. Overall the experience was great. The food was so fresh and full of flavor. The options are so diverse, there's something for everyone.
