Highly recommend this establishment!!My wife and I went to Silver Diner approximately two hours before attending a Nationals game on July 4th. They are conveniently located outside one of the entrances to the ballpark. My wife got The American Favorite two Amish Eggs, bacon, huge biscuit, fruit cup. It came with home fries but she wanted grits instead. My pick is the California Omelette. (See picture with ingredients) Despite being very busy before game time, service was exceptional. Brian did a nice job of being attentive. I believe he was new and confused about his area. He recovered nicely. Silver Diner had the feel and atmosphere you experience before a ballgame. Very busy and it seemed like the people's choice of dining. It has a relatively big space to accommodate lots of patrons. They handled the crowd well. There were several who showed up closer to game time that turned away because of the long line to check in. I'm not sure what it's like in the off-season or when the Nationals are on the road. I assume the would have regulars who dine there before going to work. P.S. Started the day here and ended the day with a To Go order we placed online. After a ballgame early afternoon we traveled to The National Mall for sightseeing all the monuments and memorials. Finished the day with the fireworks show. When returning to the hotel located near the Navy Yard, we decided to actually grab a late dinner. One of the few places that were open at 10:00pm on a holiday. Let me start off by saying the service was terrible. I placed an order for pick up that was supposed to be ready by 9:08. When I arrived I was interrupted by game traffic I had no idea that would be there. As I entered the I was greeted only to find out my order must of been picked up by a thief! The staffed offer to remake my food. Which I waited . Not sure how but my food was ice cold and unenjoyable. My spouse was highly upset that nothing was offered for the inconvenience but a dumb milkshake which I am allergic to milk. We need better staff and management to ensure people spending their hard earned money on today's economy is worth it. I will never return to this location. read more

There were 5 of us enjoying outdoor dining in naval yard area. Our food included shrimp and grits that was excellent, bison brunch item, corn beef hash, lumberjack breakfast and a kids meal with eggs and pancake. Food was excellent and service excellent except for one item. My pancakes were tasteless and overdone. There were three included with the lumberjack. I did try the kids meal pancake and it was excellent. This seems like a great place to go regardless of the time as they serve everything on the menu all the time. Shaver C made our Saturday with exceptional service and attentiveness. I shared I wanted mostly Prosecco with a drop of OJ and he brought me a chilled glass with OJ on the side! I also shared how last time my fries were cold and limp so he made sure to bring them over as SOON as the kitchen churned out out. I'm continuously astounded at the quality of gluten free / vegetarian / vegan options... the cauliflower GF pita they serve with their hummus bowl is FABU !! Adding grilled shrimp to these salads is also game changer!! DC has been needing a local dinner within its borders. Silver Social is the local diner chain which I'm glad came into the city and filled the void. In my experience, most major cities have a local diner chain that gets local love. Kerby Lane in Austin is an example. Snooze AM in Denver is another. None are really foodie destinations, but they're highly respected in what they put out - basically decent food and comfortable vibes. That being said, this is DC's answer. We went to silver diner after attending the holiday event across the street at the baseball stadium. This place was packed, and we were very surprised when they told us they could seat us in 5 minutes and we would have been fine waiting longer. I will say they are definitely trying to cram as many tables as possible into the restaurant, which is a downside for me. It was hard to get in and out of my chair without bumping into the next table, so the hostess moved our table a bit, but it honestly did nothing. The service was great, and the food was also good. I had a burger with fries, while my spouse had the eggs and turkey bacon off the all day breakfast menu. I knocked off a star because eating in cramped quarters is a minus for me. read more

Came for dinner on a Thursday night around 8pm and had a great meal! There are two host stands when you walk in (or at least their were when I was there). One for Silver Social upstairs and the other for Silver Diner downstairs. It can be a bit confusing but the hosts do a great job directing you. I planned to eat at the bar at Silver Diner but apparently there is only a physical bar you can sit/eat at upstairs at Silver Social. That being said both Silver Diner and Silver Social serve drinks. The host directed me towards the correct stand to check in at Silver Diner and graciously gave me a drink token to come back and check out Silver Social since there was an event there the night I came. A fun surprise and generous offer! Now onto Silver Diner, the hosts at the second stand greeted and seated me immediately and pointed out specials and recommended the best milkshakes. My server came over super quickly and I had my order in and food in front of me in no time, maybe 10 minutes! I had the pot pie which was AMAZING. Its not a traditional pot pie in that it doesn't come in a bowl covered with crust. Its more of a deconstructed pot pie in a huge bowl with biscuits/cornbread at the bottom and two large pie crust pieces on top. It was incredible! So rich and flavorful and the squash gives it a nice sweetness. I was genuinely stuffed after eating a quarter of it and took the rest home. It also came with a small house salad that was super delicious! My server checked on me at least 3 or 4 times in the half hour i was there. Super attentive and speedy! If you need a quick meal this is a great option and the atmosphere is very casual so you should feel free to hang around as well. I was too full to try any desserts but the milkshakes looked epic. I came here for a quick dinner with my husband and had a wonderful experience. Great location literally across the street from the main entrance of Nats Stadium so very easy to get to when there's no game crowds. We were greeted and seated right away and I enjoyed how spacious and clean everything was. The menus have lots of options but I decided on the guava-mint ginger ale and ribeye Philly steak sandwich while my husband got the hibiscus mango plant-based shake and Beyond meat miso burger. The drinks came out quickly and I love that you get the milkshake cup on the side when you order a milkshake--bonus milkshake! Both drinks were tasty but definitely pricey so I was treating it like built in dessert. My philly steak was absolutely delicious! It came out piping hot on perfectly toasted bread with a side of chili sauce so you can control how much of a kick you want it to have. The fries were super salty but that didn't stop us from nearly eating all of them. Husband enjoyed his burger but didn't get much of the wasabi flavor until the last bite. Wait staff was extremely attentive and friendly and made it a joy to be there. A little pricey for diner food but the quality and service was top notch so it was worth it. We expected the place to be packed--as it usually is on game-days-- but despite the circumstances we received exceptional service from Raven with the red hair! She was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the wholeee menu. I discovered Silver Diner after a Yelp Elite event at Silver Social, which is their upstairs 21+ upscale outdoor dining space. I got very interested in eating at Silver Diner after looking at their menu after the Elite event. We came back 2 weeks later to try their apple pie a la mode, as well as a cheeseburger with fries after visiting the nearby Enchant event. Both were excellent and very classic, well done meals! Their menu is extensive, and it was very hard to decide what to order. The burger was a good size and enough for both of us. Service was great and checked on us regularly. Food came out quickly also. The ambience was nice, not too loud and very family-oriented. Next time I think I'll have the chocolate cake, which looks decadent and delicious. Stopped here after a night at Enchant DC. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our waitress was astounding. I wish I would of gotten her name because she deserves all the accolades. She went over the menu, what everything meant, asked if we had any dietary restrictions and was just overall quite a joy. My medium rare steak frites was delicious. The popular Silver Diner in one of the most popular places in DC, right across the street from the main gate of the Washington Nationals stadium! While we haven't been to a SD for years, it was on a holiday weekend we ventured in to see how they were stacking up. Still armed with an expansive menu or all-day breakfast items, starters, soups, salads, small plates, sandwiches, burgers and entrees it does take you some time to peruse the menu for decisions. It's also been years since we've gone out to a lunch with a very traditional appetite. As mentioned, there are tons of options on their menu, but today the most basic comfort lunch food struck us as a must-do..for her, a B-L-T with fries, for me, a grilled cheese sandwich with Cole Slaw and veggies. the BLT looked plentiful and well put together and it was reportedly a perfect representative of the pedigree. It was accompanied by a large cylinder of thin cut french fries, ample enough for sharing. My grilled cheese on the other hand was just okay; actually the baked bread had a slightly off-taste, as if the grill maybe wasn't cleaned of other oily substances. The Cole Slaw and veggies however made up for the deficiency of the sandwich. Since it was a day off from work, the spicy Bloody Mary's (affordably priced at $8) were a good choice for us. Do be aware they are true to their billing, as spicy, but tasty. No celery or olives for this version though, instead a spear of pickled jalapeno slices reiterates that this is a drink for those who aren't afraid of some kick. Like others here, I do have to comment on the serving (and hosting) staff. They were terrific, friendly, without hovering, helpful and very prompt. They were an important part of our experience as they will be yours. Rest assured, the trip was a net positive. With the upstairs Silver Social beckoning with great views and their own distinct menu, it won't be as long for us to be back for a repeat visit. read more

Yeah, I'm a 50-50 on this place, meaning I went twice and the first time it was perfect and the second it was absolutely horrible. I got the same item both times, the American breakfast and a Diet Coke. The first time everything was perfectly cooked and seasons, the biscuit was awesome as well to the point it stood alone, no jam/butter required. The second time was worse than a hospital cafeteria where my potatoes were almost not cooked, the apple sausage patties tasted days old and cold. The only palatable thing on that second visit was the Diet Coke. During a very busy pre-concert event at Washington Nationals Park. We were able to have two coffees there despite the crowds of people we were treated like the only customers in the place. Consistent low quality service. We live close so we've tried this place 3 or 4 times. The service has been awful every time. Tried going on a Sunday night the place was empty. We waited 15 minutes without seeing a waiter. Hostess was joking with her friend at the front full staff messing around in the back. We tried the Chunky Monkey Milkshake which i will give a 10/10. Our server was super nice and chatty and explained they they are super flexible with their menu. I was able to order a single pancake. They have beyond burger and Bison burgers as a substitute for their beef burgers. No Turkey burgers though. I would also recommend the bison huevos ranchero which is amazing no matter what location. Their pancakes are super fluffy and consistent. Flat iron steak and eggs are good too! They recently changed the chicken and waffles to chicken and French toast.
