So I come in and ask if I can sit at the bar. Hostess says it is first come, first served. So I sit. After a few people walking past me, a gentleman comes up to me to get my drink order. I am ecstatic that he is even interacting with me ( a black female). He brings me a.cup of water, tells me my mimosa is on the way, and Irma will be my server. So I sat. And I sat. Then a Larry(white man) from the class I am taking sits next to me. Irma is congregating. She then walks past me and continues to congregate. A white man asks Larry if he has been helped without acknowledging me. Larry responds that he ordered take out. I wait a bit longer to see if ANYONE will ask me if I have been helped or if I need my order taken. No one does. I leave and go to extreme wings. I only have an hour for lunch. I do not have time to discern if they will realize black people money is just as green as white people money. read more

I had lunch here today and wasn't that impressed. Service was quite slow (waiter was clearly overwhelmed) and the food was meh. I really expected more from a place that pushes how "local" and "wonderful" their ingredients are. My menu looked a lot like the Chili's/TGI Fridays/Applebees corporate menu. Silver Diner is the diner in the Washington DC area, this one is well located and always has good food and excellent service.

I'm a Brooklyn boy, well versed in the Brooklyn Diner experience. I'm also gluten-free and vegetarian. I was passing through town, and needed nutrients placed into my gullet for sustenance purposes. I had no expectations. Wow! First off: jukeboxes at the booths? Are you kidding me? Those disappeared in 1985. And the music selection was off the charts appropriate for a 50s diner vibe. Service was prompt and friendly, and the wait staff were knowledgable about the items on the menu. And what a menu! Interesting and fresh with many and varied gluten-free and vegetarian options. Okay, the grits tasted like Quaker instant, and the coffee tasted like cigarettes, but everything else was excellent. I would totally go back if I were in the area, if for no other reason than to listen to the music and take in the retro diner decor. And I'd sneak in a thermos of my own coffee. :) read more

Our first time here and the first thing we appreciated is our waiter. He was very nice and welcoming. He asked us if we eaten her before and we told him this was our first time. I ordered the quinoa, coconut and banana French toast, a little pricey, $11.99, but it was worth it! My husband ordered the corn beef hash. We enjoyed the food & it was delicious. This place was buzzing busy Sunday morning at 10 but I got a seat at the counter. Coffee for me but waitress forgot my water, ordered but had a long bit of a wait to be served. Watching the cooks and wait staff dance around each other was entertaining - and they were all in good spirits which helped. I looked and the entire counter seating had no food. I was concerned. When my order arrived it was delicious the omelette with the black beans, guac on top, beautiful whole grain bread, organic marmalade!?, yummy strawberries. Silver Diner has really stepped up its game and is absolutely delicious. Not only are the ingredients local and mostly organic but there is such a wide range of options. I opted for the Crab cake eggs benedict which was fantastic and HUGE! I couldn't even finish the whole thing. We were on a business/pleasure trip to DC and couldn't find a breakfast restaurant on Yelp that seemed to fit what we were looking for. So, we opted for something close. The Silver Diner was nice and clean, and we had a nice breakfast. Hector, our waiter, gave us the perfect amount of attention. I had blueberry pancakes and my husband had the lumberjack combo meal. Everything tasted good. The only reason I am not giving the Silver Diner more than 3 stars is that it wasn't extraordinary. It was a good basic breakfast, but we probably wouldn't go out of our way to eat there again. read more

I love silver diner. Always have since high school. It's a diner so don't expect grass fed beef, but it's a great place, it's open all or most of the night, and they have great cheese fries. I always love the oldies playing too. Going here brings back memories. The McLean one is clean and food is consistently good. I was there the other day and the waitress messed up my order--not a big mistake. The manager came out and gave me a 10% discount an a free entree next time. Very cool. Anyone who has bad things to say about the Silver Diner may have improper expectations. read more

went here for food on New Years before heading down to Alexandria - staff were really friendly, food good - especially the dessert. I found a dirty fork and the waiter went and got the manager to formally appologise giving me a voucher to come back - i didn't need the voucher as I live in England - but the fact that the manager took this really seriously, really impressed me. This is an excellent place to take a large group. We called ahead to reserve for a party of 30 people and when we arrived, they already had everything set up for us. Our waiter was wonderful and very accommodating with our large group. The food was delicious. Everyone ordered something different and we were all happy with our food. I have been a huge fan of Silver Diner for years. Their new food items are normally to die for. The last few times I have been there I have been very disappointed with their avocado toast with salmon. To start with the $15.50 dish is expensive. The first few times I had it, it looked just like the picture in the menu. Bright green avocado with a perfect piece of salmon across the top of each of the 4 half pieces of toast. The toast was always warm and the avocado and salmon cold. Both slices of bread laid out on the plate barely overlapping looking beautiful. The last 2 times the kitchen must have put the plate under the heater because the salmon was warm and the avocado, which was also warm,had turned brown on top. The pieces of toast were also stacked completely on top of each other. It was completely unappetizing looking. Then after my marginal avocado salmon toast yesterday,I had a bowl of crab corn soup. I love this soup because it has lots of yummy crab and a great kick. Today's soup had lots of corn but almost no crab in it. It could have been that the pot of soup was not stirred prior to the soup being ladled out. At that point I kind of just gave up on my meal. On a positive note my daughter had french toast with fresh strawberries that she said was wonderful and our waitress was super attentive and very friendly. I will keep going back because I do love what the owner is trying to do with the menu and the push to use local produce and meats. I think the McLean restaurant needs to have a little more quality control on the items being served. I do not mind spending more money for great fresh fresh food. read more
