We recommend Silva Contractors for your patio work. From the beginning they were very responsive to meeting with us, discussing our vision, and implementing our plans. We had an old blue stone patio that we wanted removed so we could create a new patio with areas for planting and a fire pit. We also wanted to make the new patio level with our driveway, address drainage issues, and retain access to a clean-out that was located under the step that leads from our back door. Paulo Silva, our project manager, assured us that everything would be done to code and all our requests would be met. The project would be done on time and on budget. No additional surprises. Silva Contractors just completed a backyard project for us last week. We used them once before back in 2021. At the time, they had done a paving project for our side and front yard, which my wife and I were extremely pleased with. The side yard included a pathway from the front porch area to the side gate along with a retaining wall in front of the house. So for our backyard project, we knew who to call again. We worked with Rick both times and we brainstormed together on what we wanted. At certain points, he made suggestions which we ran with. Our backyard project included, a demo of the existing concrete, leveling the ground, new drainage including a french drain, paving the entire backyard aside for a newly placed patch of grass with a new sprinkler system. In addition we had beautiful rocks placed in our garden bed area and retaining walls in front of the fence, which we are very pleased with. He also installed a drip system for my wife's garden beds. Worked with Silva contractors on a driveway replacement, steps and a path (all pavers). Paulo came out twice to quote the project based on changes I requested (added some sq/footage). Was very easy to work with a the most responsive of the vendors I talked to. The quote was affordable and competitively priced. Project went really smooth - brought a large crew in for demo day and couldn't believe how quickly they got the old concrete out of there. From there a smaller crew prepped the site and laid the pavers over the next few days. All looked great but there was a fence post that got damaged as it was supported by the old concrete. Fortunately Paulo sent over someone who put in a new post (stronger than the old one) at no additional cost. Overall I wish we'd done this project a while back - it looks so good. Why waste a customers time if you don't want a job? I got 4 quotes for basic demolition work. This contractor shouldn't have even replied to the Yelp request. Quote was $10.5K which was 3x higher than the second highest, and $8k higher than the next. The estimator wanted to charge $1500 to protect wood flooring that is about 250 sq/ft. Ram board is $63/roll. Two rolls, max 1 hour to roll it out and tape. Insulting. read more

We received a quote from Rick on 11/30, (by the way, Rick is the person you want to ask for, he is reliable, honest, and makes you feel like he is working this project for his own house). The paver project started on 12/9 and it took 10 days to the completion. The entire crew is nice, friendly, and professional. They left us a beautiful, clean new driveway and backyard without even one small issue. I found Silva Contractors through a friend who gave them rave reviews for what was done to their front landscaping. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to be done but had a vision and a few ideas. I knew I wanted more of a hardscape look, clean lines, drought-friendly plants with some trees for privacy, a side nice fence....and some lights. I sketched something out on paper (I am not an artist...lol)...we meet a couple of times to discuss, shared a few pictures of other properties that I liked and they went from there. I work from home and I could see that the crew worked hard every day, and were diligent about getting the necessary tasks done while taking pride in their work. They also checked in frequently with me to make sure I was satisfied along the way. The job took 1 week to complete and I absolutely love everything about it. Silva Contractors brought my vision to life...even better than I imagined. So many nice touches from how the walkway pavers are laid out, the additional extension to the side deck, the lighting on the steps along with lights for the trees, and lighting that highlights the beautiful fence. Things I hadn't thought of...or envisioned. They even cleaned up the driveway area a bit and laid out some rocks and mulch to tie the driveway in with the front yard. That was a total surprise! Completely UNACCEPTABLE service. First we went ahead with their bid for our retaining because they proposed the best price and were licensed. I gave the deposit a month in advance to secure the date. A week when I double check the start time, I was informed that date won't work and was pushed back by a day. Then the day of the work the foreman, Ricky, shows up and says they undercharged us for the project and that we are missing 47 sq ft of concrete. After the first day he says the wall won't cover the dirt and recommended we put $$$$ to cover the difference because the job was already started we agreed and then the next day we find out by the crew that the extra concrete is still not enough to cover the dirt despite triple checking with the crew. When I call Ricky, he RAISED is voice and threatened me that he was not changing the order again despite it being his mistake. I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! I just wanted to add that the y destroyed two of our plants and broke a part of our retaining wall in the backyard with no remorse and nothing to make up for the damages. I am wholly disappointed with this company. In late July, I requested a quote from them regarding the creation of a driveway and driveway apron. The gentleman came and promptly did a measurement and gave me a reasonable quote. He said he would follow up with additional information. The next day, he increased the quote by about $2k. He said he miscalculated the cost of supplies. Somewhat understandable. In early August, I sent a follow up email asking for further information as well as a quote for just the driveway apron. He said he would call me back and never did. I sent several emails and left multiple voicemails. I even spoke to his receptionist and she said she would definitely remind him to call me. I emailed and called in September as well. NO RESPONSE. I was just going to let it go when I received a Christmas letter from them, looking for future business, like I was some satisfied customer. I am beyond UNSATISFIED. This project was vital because it was intertwined with my refinance. If he couldn't do the project, he should have just told me. Excellent Customer Service and timely follow up! SCI installed a very solid retaining wall back in 2021. During the recent storms, water backed up near the retaining wall. I called Rick at SCI and within a few days SCI sent out Gustavo and Michael who did a thorough assessment and testing of the drainage system SCI installed in 2021. I had pavers installed front and back. This was to be completed in 3 weeks. Took more than 6 weeks. They made numerous decisions without consulting the homeowner. The front steps did not meet safety considerations and needed to be redone. Free standing walls had wiring exposed on the side of the walls. Had them redo this and place all low voltage wiring under wall caps. They brought in a new crew to fix these issues. They proceeded to cut and grind pavers with no attempt at dust control. Landscaping and house covered in silica dust This was the worst experience I have had with a contractor. No communication through out project. The project consisted of jacuzzi and surrounding building removal, deck demo and removal, 2 yards of topsoil removal and disposal, building an open shed, repairing some siding on the house, building a patio and a firepit. The reason we chose them was that they were the only company that was able to do all the jobs in house. They started the job exactly when they were supposed to and finished on time as well. May came and went and Ricky and his company never notified me of when they would do the job. I got a hold of them in June and they apologized and promised to do the job at the end of the month. We recently completed a complex project involving removal of a portion of my yard, installation of a paver driveway, moving of my mailbox and the creation of a gate to the side of my house. All of this was to allow us to move our RV off the street and next to my house. We were being encouraged to get our RV off our driveway by the city of Hercules.
