We had a large asphalt driveway that was in bad shape with large cracks and potholes. I contacted Charles from 8 Angels Pro Concrete and requested a quote. I am so very pleased to share a review and photos of the incredible concrete work that Charles and his team recently did at my home. I contacted 8 Angels Concrete through Yelp after seeing so many neighbors recommend their work and the great reviews and photos on Yelp! My project was to remove and replace a 1968 concrete driveway and walkway, as well as adjust my landscape lighting and yard sprinklers. The walkway would be widened and the driveway would have the same footprint. I had some ideas of what I wanted that evolved from the point of contract to when the work was ready to start. Both Charles and I needed to reschedule a few times and we both appreciated each other's flexibility. Charles is an expert and his advice on the design and color came out perfectly. He diplomatically steered me away from bad ideas (really, just a poor fit for the space) and I'm so glad I listened to him - the results are beautiful. For the driveway we did color in the concrete and a contrasting release color on the stamped ashlar. Border is broom finished. The team was on time, jovial and professional, and their work speaks for itself. Site was clean every day. After setting, they came back and cleaned up the release dust, power washed, and made sure my lights and sprinklers worked, going above and beyond to ensure everything looked lovely. I know you like good reviews Charles, but in all honesty, I can't do that. If I could give minus 5 stars I would. I have never hired a company that did such a lousy, sloppy job in my 73 years on this earth. He used the cheapest mix of concrete, thought he could finish it himself instead of paying experienced finishers and ruined the whole patio. It's stained, cracked, discolored, and a bad rough finish. Why don't you post pictures of the job you did for me Charles? I'm so upset and disappointed I can't tell you. I cry every time I look at it. It took me 50 years to be able to replace the patio and this is what I get?? If I wanted dirty cracked concrete, I would've saved myself the 14,400.00 and kept what I had. It was better quality. Yes he did come back and tried to fix the step he messed up on purpose because I questioned him on how he was doing it. But left more stains. All he could say was he was he was sorry. Said he would fix one section but it wouldn't be perfect. No, the whole thing needs to be redone I offered to get bids from other places to replace it and he pay for it, but he refused. We loved all of the Yelp reviews for 8 Angels and based on those hired Charles. So we thought. The day the work started, a crew showed up and started working. We thought it must of been his crew and Charles will show up. We were told it was a 3 day job. The job was for a small section of the size of the house to add parking for one car. Day 1 - Worked started late, no notice. It was about 100 this day and no water was supplied for the workers. The workers repeatedly knocked on the door asking for water. They should have been supplied with water to drink. Happy to give a few bottles here and there but we should not have to supply almost a whole case. No Charles. No contact. Day 2 - Different crew, however one same man that seemed to be in charged. He was not Charles. No idea where Charles was. Called Charles and was informed we are working with this other person on site. No word if he was going to be on site. Day 3 - Different crew. Went to take stuff to the dump around 1pm and said they would be back. Never returned. Called Charles and told him they left and didn't return. Probably because of that call they returned about 5:30 that evening and working for another hour. We were told that it would take an addition 2 more days to finish. Day 4 and 5 - still different crews each day. Concrete was poured on 4th day. Looks great. Still no Charles. Never saw Charles here. Never had Charles call to see how it's going. At the end of everyday, we would pick up the workers trash (water bottles, Red Bull cans, used napkins and plastic wrappers). We never thought that some other crews would be here working when we hired 8 Angels Concrete. We hired them based on their reviews and what others said of Charles. We didn't have have that great experience with Charles the reviews talk about. Charles was MIA for us. The concrete in the end looks good by this sub contractor, however the amount of days went from 3 to 5, showed up late everyday, left early everyday and no communication. If we wanted to work with a different company we would have hired them. We wanted and thought we were hiring 8 Angels and Charles based on their awesome reviews. Unfortunately that is not what we got. We got lucky the work came out good. He gave me one estimate back in June 2020, and then I had him back out again in March 2021 when we were ready to do the job. read favorable Yelp reviews and so we included 8 Angels in a bid to clear out some bushes, cut down a 25-foot tree, and extend our driveway. Very prompt response time, incredibly reasonable bid (compared to some others that were highly unreasonable), but we weren't ready to do the project at the time. Salesi was very understanding, no pressure, and left it open for us to contact him when we were ready. 2 months later I re-contacted Salesi, he honored the original bid, and got us on the schedule. The project went very smoothly and on time. Nice guys, super kind to my little kids as they stared / asked tons of questions / tried to get involved :) No cursing / loud music / disturbance while they worked. Just super nice and polite. Left the site clean everyday and at the end of the job. No hiccups whatsoever with the project... paid them in full and waited for our new cement to dry. But then a week later when the sprinklers came on, turns out we missed capping one of the ones under the new cement (disclaimer: Salesi dug out and showed me pipes, then cut + capped where he and I both thought he should initially before pouring the cement. Turns out there was a wayward pipe that didn't get the memo and was illogically placed in a weird spot. We both missed it... I don't put that on them). So I reached out to Salesi on Fri, and to his credit he came right out the following Sat morning and spent 2hrs digging out some trenches, found the wayward pipe, cut + capped it. No problems since and the driveway looks beautiful. I really can't say enough for his honesty and integrity. He could have shifted the blame to me, or said that I approved everything before he did it (and thus absolved himself... I've had plenty of workers do similar on other projects) -- but he didn't. He came right out and knocked it out to make it right. High quality job, and high quality individual. Real pleasure working with him. After two years I am still upset when I see the 3inch x 32 inch walkway that was scheduled to be 4in x36in. Now I wonder did he add the necessary rebar?.. His crew also deposited 2 shovels of leftover concrete in our ground cover. A fine crack has developed in the driveway. read more
