They came out to do exposed aggregate concrete work at my home, and somehow managed to match my existing 20-year-old concrete almost perfectly. Thanks to David for a positive contractor experience! :) He made sure we got the look we wanted for our new staircase and pathway, even making and dropping off samples to test out the colors and seals. It looks great, and his team were professional and friendly. Everything was on time and early. The work and materials are high quality to last a long time, worth the value. They didn't try to cut corners. He gave me instructions to water the concrete to prevent cracks and included a stabilizer, which is something previous contractors did not do (one of our other concrete pads cracked all over pretty soon after). We received bids from several contractors for our job, which was the removal of existing flagstone, dead grass, and junipers, and installation of approximately 1100 sf of pavers and two low retaining walls. Kodiak promptly responded to my voicemail message. David, the owner, came on time for a free estimate. He's low key, friendly, and easy going. He took measurements and notes and about a week later, he sent a quote. (The quote is just a basic overview of the proposed work - it is NOT the contract, which is a separate document). The quote was considerably less than the highest competitor's quotes. Kodiak is one of the few contractors that I've encountered that actually uses a contract form that complies with the California Business & Professions Code requirements. This is a very underrated aspect when it comes to hiring a contractor (many companies skip the requirement or even try to include backward terms like having the homeowner indemnify the contractor(!)). The work started on the day they said. His crew worked hard every day. David came a couple of times to monitor the progress. While it took a few more days than expected, the additional time was very reasonable because the area had some slope, which they were able to level quite a bit. Could not recommend David and his crew more. We originally wanted stamped concrete but decided on pavers. We looked at a few of the jobs they had just completed and decided pavers were worth the extra cost. For our job roughly 500sq/ft that was only $1200 addition for pavers over stamped concrete. It's been exactly one year since Kodiak Construction repaved my small driveway which was a simple job on a flat area. They did the job in two days but the result was awful. First, they didn't measure the width properly and made it more narrow than it was. They left big gaps on the sides of the driveway so I had to call them to fix it. A worker came with some buckets of soil to sort of fill the gaps. Very shoddy. The surface of the driveway is now very blotchy because of their shoddy cement mix job. Then, the ground was not leveled correctly so it now collects water in the middle when it rains. They literally destroyed a lot of landscaping around the house with wheelbarrows, tools, and rinsing off their tools so cement was everywhere on the lawn and flowers. I had to hire someone to clean up the mess they made around the house. David did reimburse me for the cost of that. Later, I saw my Ring camera revealed the workers using my hose and water to wash their trucks on the street in front of my house. The overall result of hiring Kodiak Construction is being out thousands of dollars and having a terrible looking driveway due to their extremely poor workmanship. read more

Kodiak replaced the sidewalk at our church, did a great job and were fantastic to work with all throughout the project. The city inspector changed the scope of the job after demolition was underway to require a lot of extras beyond the permitted sidewalk repair, which doubled the cost and the church could not afford. Kodiak worked with us and the city to find a compromise. Because of the city inspector's changes we had an unsafe condition that would exist if the work was done as he wanted and David was very concerned about this issue. He came up with a solution that made it safe and affordable. I would use this company again anytime. I actually need some work done at my house too, and Kodiak will be my choice for that. read more

We researched replacing our asphalt driveway with pavers, concrete or with asphalt again. Part of our job had to include removing underlying dirt from our driveway that had been part of the City of Lafayette's installation of sidewalks in our neighborhood. David provided several estimates, we eventually selected aggregate concrete that matched our existing walkways. Still waiting for an concrete patio estimate since 4/26/2018. This should be a easy as it is a rectangle patio. There is $/sq ft estimate online for your city (I did my due diligence prior to calling any business). So this isn't rocket science and a reputable Co. should be able to arrive at an "estimate " on the spot or at minimum 2 days. Kodiak rep took measurements and left. Kodiak is Not recommended as a reputable business because follow up is lacking in total. And there is a professionalism problem when a Co visits your home and does not care to follow up. read more

Dave showed up on time, to get the information, for the work to be done. Estimate was sent via e-mail, in the time framed promised. Crew showed up on the day promised, at 7:45 am. The dismantling of the driveway, haul away, clean up, and set up was all done in one day. Two days letter, crew showed up before 8am, driveway was poured, and finished by 12 noon. I hired Kodiak construction for my front driveway project. My front driveway was 1/3 concrete and 2/3 grass. I wanted to convert it to a circular driveway with a fountain in the middle. David finished the project much sooner than my expectation and his promised date. He matched the color of my old concrete driveway perfectly. Moreover, prior to the start of our project, I had hired a tree services company to reduce some heavy branches over the roof of our house.
