We had problems with flooding the the back yard. We also had an ugly slab of concrete that needed to go. Kodiak had the perfect solution. Remove the concrete and install a French drain and pavers. Stay away from KODIAK, Lic#708098. These people are 100% unprofessional to the point of being dishonest. They made me wait for two months after signing the contract and then walked away from the job with a one liner email three days before it was supposed to start. On September 18, 2017, I signed a contract with Kodiak for the foundation of a home addition (300 ft^2) that required pile drilling. I was told that the work would start around Thanksgiving. After waiting for two months without a word from them, I got the following email from Griffin (their estimator and scheduler). On Monday, November 20, 2017 9:22 AM, Griffin Ormond kodiakgriffin@gmail.com wrote: Christian, Unfortunately as of Friday our foundation foreman & excavator are no longer with us. I am truly sorry but we cannot start until March 2018. Thank you. Griffin Ormond After getting this message, I tried to talk to the owners David & Michael FIGUEROA. I left a message to both, neither of them returned the call. Eventually Griffin called me and in so many words told me that my job had been put at the bottom of the pile. This means that KODIAK either realized they could not do the work or that they found a better opportunity job. In either case very unprofessional. I never heard from them again even though I left messages for Griffin. I had to restart from scratch and essentially had the job delayed by 6 months (including the rainy months at the beginning of 2018). I went with Lassiter Excavating, Inc. These people are reliable, have the equipment and the know-how. KODIAK is a light weight, fly-by-night non-professional organization. They may be OK for a sidewalk or a patio (as shown on their site), but should not be considered for any serious concrete work. They should not take those jobs and walk away from them. read more

Kodiak really needs to rethink the way they schedule their appointments. I scheduled an appointment to have an estimator come out to look at my backyard for my landscaping needs. I spoke with Kristina and told her I'd like to meet the estimator at 9:30am on a Friday. Friday rolls around and at 9:40am I'm still waiting around for the estimator. Punctuality is an important requirement for hiring anyone for a job and already red flags went up. I called the office and no one picked up so I left a message and also sent them an emailing telling them that I basically would not be moving forward with them. Imagine hiring them for a job and them telling you they'd start on Monday at 9am but no one arrives, not a good look. Kristina emailed me back "perhaps I did not clarify when we spoke originally. We traditionally book hour long time increments for these appointments which factors in drive time for our Estimator. This particular appointment I had noted that you preferred 9:30-10am as opposed to the 9:00-10am that we typically would have scheduled. When I spoke with Melinda at 9:45 she mentioned that she arrived at 9:40am and saw you in passing, and that she had left her business card in the door since no one else was home." First of all, "factoring in" drive time to be included in your appointment window makes no sense. Why ask me what time I'd prefer to schedule my appointment knowing that your estimator would still be driving to my house at that specified time? Second, I've made appointments with numerous other landscape/construction workers and NO ONE schedules appointments that way. Third, if it's true they schedule hour long appointments and knew I wanted mine at 9:30am, why only schedule it for 9:30-10am as opposed to 10:30am? Which means all other customers except me get a nice 1hour to speak with your estimator but I only get a measly 20mins (cause you know "drive time"). Suffice to say I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

Really great craftsmanship! They worked well with city permitting process, when the work involves city's curb removing and street connecting from driveway. Lots of people don't want to deal with it. But they have experience working with city inspectors and know what they will look for. And they did a great job! Of course, the job itself is well done as well: well designed and high quality. People are asking me which company I worked with to get this job done and they are surprised the curb is part of the project. If you want to have good concrete and paver job done, they are definitely the one you should ask for. But that means they are booked up several months away. so act fast! read more

We engaged Kodiak Construction to install over 2000 sq ft of stamped concrete in our backyard in early 2016 and it still looks great today. As you can see in the photos they do the job right using the proper amount of gravel and rebar. They also installed area drains and tied the pipes into our existing downspout drainage system. We found Kodiak Construction on Yelp and went with them after speaking with three different concrete contractors and reading good reviews about Kodiak. The Kodiak team was here for a little over a month for our sizable driveway and other hardscape upgrade project. We found their estimator Griffin to be very easy to work with, as we went through the process of clarifying our project and nailing down the cost. He came to our home several times to discuss with us what we had in mind (and help educate us!). We ended up revising the estimate a couple of times and his calculations were clear and easy to follow. Owner David oversaw all and attended to every day's progress, answered our every question and each detail--no matter how small. On "pour days," we had the better part of a dozen concrete workers here, and they were the hardest working crew we've ever seen (. . . AND in the triple-digit heat this summer!). They were careful of our existing landscape, fences and the house and each one of them was courteous and respectful. The project was left as tidy as possible at the end of each work day. The estimated duration of the project came in on the button (4 weeks). David said a lot of their business is repeat customers and we can see why He took great care of us and our project. We had a 35+ years old asphalt driveway that was not only ugly but crumbling and dangerous to walk on. We received several bids for different solutions, from asphalt to pavers to concrete. David's bid was affordable considering the size of the job, and was less than half of the estimates for pavers. When we accepted the bid, Kristina got us on their schedule within a month! Once the crew started, the old driveway was gone after the first day. The whole job for a 1200 square ft driveway took less than 2 weeks, including grading, rebar, a two day pour, and removal of forms once the concrete was set. They added a darker color to the mix too, to give a more esthetic look to the driveway. They even replaced two footings for a deck thar was not done correctly by the original contractor. We now have a beautiful new driveway, with graceful score lines that accentuate the curve of the driveway. David's crew was very friendly, answering our many questions as the job progressed. After getting 3 bids to replace our 50 year old driveway we selected Kodiak for the job. One thing that impressed was Michael was on time, delivered a quote within 1 hour, and had some great ideas for the project. One of the needs I had for this job was to regrade part of the front yard so water would drain away from the house and towards drainage I had installed earlier in the year. They not only got the grading right but hauled away 5 yards of roots and dirt. Kodiak installed base rock, tamped it, placed rebar on 18" squares, pinned into the walk and garage, installed expansion joint. We had 15 yards of colored concrete that has had no discoloration and David did an awesome job of making the job shine with great cuts around the border and cutting in sections. 10/06/2017 Update: Now there are 4 more large cracks. I have not tried contacting the company again as they did NOTHING the first time. The job is in Clayton on a flat lot, not on a hill. There has not been any seismic activity so I have to conclude that they did something wrong - very, very wrong. Price was not the lowest nor the highest. I liked the presentation and references provided. The project was completed at the end of November 2015. We had a large patio and walkway demoed and re-poured - I asked for special handling of the materials from the demoed patio and they did it perfectly. The walkway is great and the patio looked really good. There was a little issue with grading which they promptly tried to rectify. It is still not draining as it is supposed to but it is not bad enough to cause a problem so I let it go. We were satisfied. After the rains, we noticed a crack running through the middle of a LARGE portion of the patio. I emailed Kodiak on 04/17/2016 and included a picture to see if there was any way to fix it. I have not heard anything. We are aware that cracks happen in cement. I just did not expect it to happen this quickly and the location is suspicious, like the part that grades into the walkway is falling off. I do not know if anything could be done or what to expect to happen next but I would have really liked to have heard back from them and maybe have someone come out and look at it. read more
