    Extended backyard walkway.

I was referred to Melinda Lara's Concrete by a friend for a back yard walkway. I called and made an appointment and the next day met with Melinda (project manager) for an estimate. She was so nice and had great recommendations for the project. Within a week the walkway was poured and the project was completed in one day. They have exceeded my expectations and would recommend them to anyone considering having cement work done. I will definitely work with them again in the future. Thank you so much!

This is really unfortunate. We had our driveway expanded. During the work, I noticed that the level of the new section was likely going to create some pooling and Mr. Lara insisted that it would be fine. OK, I generally trust the experts. The owner's daughter and project manager, Melinda, came out to review the job after it was done. We had been hosing down the new area as prescribed and she noticed an area of water pooling BEFORE I had a chance to bring it up. She apologized and said that should not be happening and said there were a few ways to remedy the situation. Great! I was happy to see someone being accountable and offer to fix something without even having to raise the issue. She set a date to come back out and I put that on my calendar. The date came and no one showed or called. I emailed the office and she responded and said she would come back out to look at the area again. As soon as I stepped outside, she began telling me that it wasn't as bad as she thought and explaining that everything was within tolerance levels and there was no water. (It hasn't rained in weeks so of course there was no water... I offered to hose it down, but she was insisting it wasn't necessary.) I was confused. She had suddenly taken a 180 degree turn from our last meeting and was insisting that the original pooling that she noticed, pointed out to me and committed to fixing, was no longer an issue. After going in circles a few times, she became defensive, unprofessional and I decided there was no reason to continue the debate. As I said, this is unfortunate and was completely avoidable. We really liked Melinda during our initial meetings. We had planned on giving her and her family more work as we are looking to add a patio in the back. I had even recommended her to a neighbor for another project. Very short-sighted way to handle this situation given how easy the fixes she described would have been.

Another view of front porch and steps

Lara's just completed a 3rd project for me. 15 years ago they poured my interior garage slab, and two car sloped driveway (stamped with color), 10 years ago they poured my rear patio (stamped and colored), and last week completed my front porch extension, stairs, and additional two car driveway. They are family owned, easy to work with, and great with guidance on style and selection. The workmanship is top notch, and the crews work hard to ensure things are done right. Pricing is reasonable, and they work within your budget. Owner Mr. Lara shows up on site several time to check the work, and doing work himself. Great company who I highly recommend.

NAB removed all the bad concrete and replaced it with pavers, and on the other side of the court, they added 5 feet of concrete where we had lawn, as well as adding to our existing retaining wall. After the pavers were installed, I noticed something not to my preference with the paver layout. I contacted Nick, our site manager from NAB, and he was very responsive, and arranged for Nate (the company president) to come out right away and discuss the matter, which was resolved that same day to my complete satisfaction. Nick also was happy to arrange for a few other small tasks related to bricks and concrete on our property to be taken care of, and they were - at no added cost. NAB construction was not the lowest bid we got for this work, but I have learned the hard way that going with the lowest price is not always a great idea, and I am glad I went with NAB for this project. I'm very satisfied with the results of this project, and would not hesitate to recommend NAB construction to others.

We wanted a walkway installed so we went back but this time we dealt with someone by the name of Nick Vard. He was very unprofessional and used the terms "outside the scope of work" and asked us to make a "commitment" several times. I went to Brickyard on a Saturday at 8AM per the direction of Nick but when I called him about our selection he never called me back. He blamed us and said they lost money on the job because it took longer than expected. He tried to convince me to use a brick I did not like. And the biggest disappointment was the drainage that they left unfinished. We spent almost $10k but we feel like the job is incomplete. Wish we could recommend them but if they continue working with Nick Vard you should stay away.

This was done in 2014 and I thought his price was really reasonable. I get a lot of comments on it. He had to build a bare bones brick fireplace to support the new product to overlay it with the stacked sandstone; and the arch just really makes it unique. He also had the foresight to ask me if I wanted him to cut into the underneath of the hearth to slip hard wood in the future when replacing my carpet. He mentioned that he had a piece of reclaimed wood, to use for the mantel, 2 1/2 in. thick. Today I found out how special it is because this wood thickness does not exist. These days, wood mantels are made into a box from different pieces and flipped over to attach on a fireplace. Thanks Jay; and I still love my fireplace after 11 years (and no cracks with all the earthquakes we are experiencing these days.)

The job, which entailed removing the original (lava rock.. yuck) fireplace, dry wall repair, and building out a new floor to ceiling stacked stone fireplace took 6 days, and since I work from home, I got to watch a true Master Mason at work. Jay, with his many years of experience, helped us to through the entire process, soup to nuts, so we could make informed decisions about what we wanted, and then he went about his business quickly and efficiently. I was really shocked at the speed of transformation. From 1975 to 2018 in 6 days! It was amazing to watch. Replacing a fireplace is inherently a messy business, and I was very impressed at the care Jay took to section off the work area, cover the floor and furniture, and make sure that everything was protected. When he was done, he took his time making sure to thoroughly clear the area, so we had only minimal cleanup. I found Jay to be exceptionally respectful of the space, which I really appreciated. Our experience with Browning Masonry was resoundingly positive. It's a small business that can really offer a personalized experience, and I cannot say enough about the beautiful result. I used to not really utilize our family room.. now, I enjoy my morning coffee by the fireplace every morning. I'm definitely one who can appreciate a true trade specialist, and that is exactly what you are getting with Browning Masonry.
