We feel lucky to have found Select Pavers. Luiz is professional, responsive, and takes great pride in his work. His detailed proposal made the project clear from the start, and his experience and attention to detail showed throughout. Our driveway turned out beautiful, the workmanship was excellent, and the price was very competitive. We would gladly hire Select Pavers again and highly recommend them. read more

Don't waste your time elsewhere (or reading this long review) -- just go with Luiz and Neto (Golden Space). Linking Neto's review here, as he worked with Luiz for this project as well: https://www.yelp.com/biz/golden-space-hardscape-construction-el-sobrante-2?hrid=hLHRvEqNuMiLRxe7IPPS7A&utm_campaign=www_review_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct) We wanted to renovate half of our yard, turning it from an unusable afterthought to a flexible and usable patio. All told, it's probably 1100sqft of new pavers installed. Luiz was the only one to mention drainage issues from the start -- +1 for his knowledge and eye towards the bigger picture of homeownership (water problems amirite?). They dug up almost a foot of soil all around the home, removed some stubborn stumps that looked like they extended down into the cavities of hell, leveled it out, installed drainage, compacted, and dropped in the pavers. This was a pretty big project that involved some project management from our side to coordinate hardscape, softscape, fence, and shed installations over several months. Luiz and Neto handled all of this nimbly and worked with the other contractors we engaged with, making sure all of the pieces of the project fit in harmony. They gave several key pieces of advice to us new homeowners, as we planned and executed over the months -- things that we wouldn't have even thought of. From usability and function, to maintenance and durability, they guided us through all aspects of the renovation, not just the hardscaping. They even connected us with the softscapers, when our original contacts fell through and things looked bleak. My partner calls them our spirit animals. I could say more and go on and on, but the other reviews cover this all pretty well. I'm here to reinforce what you've read and what you're already thinking -- these are the guys to call. We'll surely be calling them again for the other half of the yard. read more

Luiz and his team did an amazing job installing turf in our front yard. He provided us with a free estimate, listened to what we wanted, gave us great suggestions to improve our vision, and provided us with a detailed plan of what to expect. They were honest, punctual, professional, and very clean and tidy. Looking forward to working with Select Pavers again in the future for our backyard. read more

Luiz Cardoso, the owner of Select Pavers, is a pleasure to work with. He is very experienced. He understands your vision and then works thoughtfully to bring it to fruition. He is very reliable and delivers on what he promises. Not only that, he goes above and beyond to complete the job. For example, when PG&E came to redo our driveway which they broke to upgrade our panel, they broke the drainage pipe from the back yard. I called Luiz, he not only showed up from another work sight, he worked with PGE contractor to fix the problem. He was under no obligation to help me but he did it. The sense of relief and peace I felt, I can't describe in words. That's the kind of person he is. I will highly recommend this company if you are in need of a hardscape contractor. You will be very happy with the results. For lighting, Neto of Golden Space did an incredible job!! Luiz and Neto made a great team in transforming our front, back, and side yards into something we are going to enjoy for years to come. read more

We had both our front and backyard completely redone by Select Pavers out of Hayward, and the transformation has been incredible. What used to be unused space is now a true outdoor living area we enjoy every day. Luiz, the owner, takes great pride in his work and it truly shows. He listened to our ideas and helped bring them to life -- from the paver layout to designing a fully custom outdoor kitchen that perfectly fits our needs. He even went the extra mile to help us research appliances and coordinate subcontractors for our beautiful custom pergola. One thing we really appreciated was Luiz's flexibility and commitment even after the project was completed. When a few aspects didn't work quite as expected once we started using the space, he came back, made thoughtful adjustments, and ensured everything functioned exactly how we wanted. That kind of follow-through and care is rare and speaks volumes about his integrity and pride in his work. Luiz and his team were professional, honest, and genuinely great to work with from start to finish. We couldn't be happier with the results and would absolutely recommend Select Pavers to anyone looking to transform their outdoor space! read more

It's been a total pleasure working with Luiz and his team. They removed my damaged concrete driveway and walkway and replaced everything with pavers. From start to finish, Luiz was super professional and stayed on top of every single step of the project. I especially appreciated his contract, which clearly spelled out the scope of work and the warranty. That kind of transparency was completely missing from a lot of the other owner-led crews I looked into. I highly recommend them! read more

It is satisfying to write about a good home improvement experience and to honor competent, high-quality, and customer-focused service. My wife and I used Select Pavers for our project which involved: - removing a wooden deck - replacing it with a beautiful, stamped cement patio - building a wide, safe landing and step to span two sliding doors - creating wide cement pathways on both sides of our house - ensuring efficient drainage away from our house and into the street - minimizing puddling - powerwashing and repairing old retaining walls, brick landscaping and steps Their bid was very reasonable and they had been recommended by two trusted friends. Our expectations were set very high. They exceeded them. Even with the rain, the project was planned and executed within a two week schedule. Clean up at the end of each day and at the end of the project was outstanding. From beginning to end, Luiz Cardosa was a rare combination of a warm and caring consultant, supervisor and communicator with high intelligence, integrity and creativity. He is exceptionally respectful, accomodating, considerate and patient. He is also a premium explainer and energetic model for his team. Even when off-site he stays in close touch with his crew via text, phone and video. The company's performance showed: - transparency (contract, payments) - careful planning - united team work - flexibility to accept reasonable changes - agility to respond to rain and stay on schedule Removing old concrete, dirt and rocks required the use of heavy excavator equipment in tight spaces. Even while exercising great skiil and caution there was unexpected property damage which was quickly acknowledged and compensated by the company. We would confidently hire Select Pavers again for other projects and strongly recommend them to others. read more

We give our strongest recommendation to Luiz and Select Pavers. Luiz and his team removed a huge amount of concrete from our old driveway and replaced it with Belgard pavers. They also installed two crushed rock paths along the side and back of the property, and ran all the associated drainage. Everyone associated with this job was friendly, polite, and extremely hardworking. Luiz is a great communicator and problem solver, and he delivered the job on schedule. We believe the price was very reasonable for the high quality of the work. We're thrilled with the results and wish we had more work to give them! read more

We highly recommend Select Pavers! Unlike most reviews, the job they did for us was not pavers or artificial turf; for us they removed old and unsafe brick steps leading to our patio and installed new steps making sure they were to code. Additionally they did brick and stone work in our front yard. From the initial estimate to the job completion Luis, Neto and their team were professional, knowledgeable, efficient and courteous. Luis and Neto were on site everyday listening to our concerns, answering our questions and most importantly offering suggestions, design ideas and details we never considered. These additional design ideas in our front yard helped create an amazing result that we are so happy with. Their team of workers were polite, paid attention to every detail and were diligent in their daily work ethic. We thank Luiz, Neto and Team! read more

Posting this review on behalf of my parents who recently worked with Select Pavers for their driveway remodel: Out of the several renovation projects my husband and I have done over the past five years, we have had the best experience with Luiz and his team redoing our cracked driveway. We got several quotes and found that Luiz and Select Pavers gave us a competitive quote and were very professional and quick to communicate. Our project was slightly complicated because a large tree next to the driveway was responsible for the cracking, and several companies were doubtful we would be able to keep the tree. Luiz's plans took into consideration that we wanted to keep the tree and we were very pleased with the way he worked closely with the arborist to ensure that important roots were preserved. The entire project was completed in 4 days. Luiz was either on site or checking in daily to keep us current with what was being done and why. We highly recommend Luiz and his team at Select Pavers. read more

This is the 3rd (and largest) project my family has done with Luiz and Neto and we could not be happier. They installed modern 2x2 pavers in our backyard, a pathway and drainage. Both Neto and Luiz are easy to work with and always want to do their best for customers. With any project, one is always worried about cost, quality and delivery. They listened to our wishes and offered ways to meet our budget constraints without compromising quality. The execution of the project was great. Neto made made several trips to plan and design, made sure to be aware of utility lines and pool plumbing to avoid unexpected headaches. The entire crew traveled to Sonoma County and put such care into this project each day which means so much to me. They turned a dream into reality! read more

I'm grateful to Luiz and his excellent crew. They did a wonderful job on paving our driveway and side entrance steps. My wife and I love the result. Additionally, when the job scope significantly increased due to unforeseen events, Luiz went above and beyond in handling the extra work. To begin: I got 3 bids for my project. Luiz came by and he had the most detailed proposal. He pointed out the lack of proper sloping near the garage, which led to water pooling. He also explained some mysterious holes in the ground: they were the other end of drainage pipes from the side of the house. Luiz fixed the driveway to properly slope down, and moved those ugly water holes so that the side house drains into the end of the street. Luiz asked the city to mark electricity/gas/cable hookups, as expected. Unfortunately, the city was wrong. After digging up the driveway, Luiz discovered our main electrical pipe was inches below the driveway (not 3 feet, as required by code), and it was corroded. The city immediately shut off electricity to our house, out of caution. Luiz worked with the city's electrical department, building inspections, permitting office, and my electrician to handle this. I'm grateful for his ownership of this stressful period. Luiz even brought a generator so that my fridge/freezer would keep running. I can't recommend Luiz and his crew enough. I'm so glad we went with them, both because the driveway looks great but also because of how he handled the electrical pipe problems. To top it all off: Luiz, his crew, and the office staff are all super friendly and communicate often. read more

Luiz helped me fix up my backyard in April 2020 and everything is still in great shape a year later. He installed the pavers, including a landing step for my French doors, as well as a natural gas fire pit and bbq. Luiz helped me pick out the right size bbq and put it together for me. He also helped me pick out the right bbq cover and fire pit cover. The pavers have settled nicely and remain flat, and the gas fire pit continues to be the stellar centerpiece that I wanted for backyard gatherings. Luiz came by after the installation to help me understand how it works and even helped me enhance the flame quality. We highly recommend Select Pavers. Our project required removing 5 containers of dirt, pavers, and cement, leveling our back yard and creating a new paver patio, walkways, retaining wall and driveway. Luiz and Neto provided excellent customer service, explaining the entire process before, throughout and after the project was complete. One of them was onsite daily and always available to answer any questions or concerns. They didn't hesitate to make adjustments when there was something we didn't like or changed our mind about, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Once the project was completed, we were left with a clean yard. Neto and Luiz went above and beyond to ensure we were happy with our "investment" as they put it. read more

Select Pavers were great to work with. They delivered exactly on the design my wife had for our backyard and front yard. Luiz, Neto and their team are great to work with. They gave us clear estimates up-front, worked with us on design tweaks as the work progressed and always kept us up-to-date on the progress and schedule. The quality of workmanship is great, and their team followed all the social distancing protocols that were needed at the time. They would always leave the work space clean and usable after the day's work and we really appreciated Neto's attention to detail and material/design suggestions. The project involved installing concrete pavers and lighting in the front and backyard, building a planter bed with stacked stone veneer and installing borders for plant areas. I will definitely use them for future projects and also recommend them highly to family and friends! read more

I quoted a few companies and chose Select Pavers given their reasonable price, and my good feelings on their professionalism and how easy to work with. I'm so glad I made this decision. My backyard transformed to a fully paved beautiful place where I can really enjoy it in like a week. They worked very efficiently and professionally. It was an absolute pleasure doing business with Select Pavers on our backyard project. My family is 100% satisfied with not only the backyard, but the professionalism shown by Luiz and his team throughout the entire project. We were also drawn to the fact that they are a locally owned family business with a 5-star reputation on Yelp. Luiz came out for a consultation about two weeks before the start of our project. We gave him a rough idea on what we visioned for my yard, which was approximately 360' of pavers and 650' of artificial grass. Luiz provided me information about grading and drainage and different things I may want to consider. Luiz did not trying to sell us on anything unnecessary and always worked with us to ensure that everything would be to our liking. After the consultation, I drew up our plan for the back yard and Select Pavers provided us with a very competitive quote. We informed Luiz of our budget and he made it a priority to honor our budget while brainstorming cost-effective solutions that would maintain what we wanted for our backyard. We took a drive to their warehouse to look at materials and once we made our choice, we were able to agree on the price and start date for the project. Much like any other home improvement project, obstacles come up. Luiz made sure to check in with us by phone or in person to provide daily updates, which isn't always easy when you consider that his team manages multiple jobs at a time. He let us know of different changes that needed to be made during the project and presented the options to us. I also happened to watch a chunk of the work done and I must say that the workers at Select Pavers do excellent work. They're friendly, they work hard, and they do not cut any corners. I've also watched a lot of youtube on laying pavers and they did everything by the book! Our backyard was a nightmare and not we cannot keep ourselves from going back there! I had a good feeling about Select Pavers from the beginning, as Luiz (one of the owners) was who came out to give the bid. He was able to answer any/every question I had, and it was obvious he knew his trade inside and out. We had gotten bids from a couple other companies, and I think they might have sent out sales reps (who don't have experience in doing the work themselves), which made a big difference for me on confidence of the outcome. Luckily for us Select Pavers were not only knowledgeable, they were also extremely skilled, kind, and very much care about the quality of their work. Luiz and Neto were both absolutely top-notch to work with, and I can't say enough good things. This is my 1st review on yelp and it's for Select Pavers because of their exceptional service. In order to find a good contractor for my backyard project, I basically looked at all pavement and landscaping contractors on yelp, and picked 4 contractors with license for interview and quote. All these contractors have good reviews on yelp and the projects they did look awesome. Luiz, the owner of Select Pavers, is the last contractor my husband and I interviewed. We decided to work with Luiz because of his professionalism, competitive and transparent prices, and excellent communication/customer service. I like the itemized quote Luiz provided, clearly listing all charges and no hidden cost. And he totally understands the quoted items might be removed as design changes. Due to my vacation, HOA approval and material lead time, my project was just done in October though I contacted Luiz this April. During six months, I sent him numerous emails/texts and he always quickly and patiently answer my questions. Project Manager Neto and Randy are awesome as well. They updated us the progress by texts every day during construction, and they had meeting with us several times to confirm all details. In order to not late for work, we asked for 8 am meeting in the morning and they always showed up on time. My backyard is small and it took less than 2 weeks to complete. It looks amazing now and we really enjoy it. I highly recommend Select Pavers to everyone. read more

Select Pavers removed our old cement patio and wood deck and installed pavers and artificial turf. We are very happy with the results. Of the four contractors from whom we got estimates, Select was by far the lowest ($7k lower than the next cheapest, and more than $20k lower than the highest). Normally this might make me hesitant, but based on their great reviews we went ahead with them, and weren't disappointed. The work itself looks great, and the communication was very good throughout. Either Luiz or Neto (the lead guys) was on site at least once almost every day, and when they weren't around, they kept me well updated by phone and email. We chose Belgard Catalina Grana pavers (in Riviera with graphite border) and WaterSavers Supernatural 80 turf. We worked with Luiz from Select Pavers to redo our backyard in Fremont. He's super friendly, upfront about things, and doesn't try to sell you things you don't want or need. The difference with the other paver we talked to was that Luiz comes by himself, he doesn't send a sales person. They were more than happy to reuse parts of the planters to reduce cost and avoid unnecessary work, we never felt pressured to do things differently I any way. The quote came in significantly lower than the other quote we asked for ($50k vs. $80k) and they delivered everything exactly as agreed upon. His team worked fast and the result is of great quality. Luiz and his brother Neto were always reachable by text message. One thing to note here is that Select Pavers has everything in-house, they don't outsource parts of it to other paver companies like some of the bigger names do. Throughout the entire project we had one single point of contact which really made for a great experience. We did have an unexpected electrical issue but that also was dealt with in a very professional manner. Overall we were very happy, both with how the project went and with the end result. read more

Hello, If you are reading this I assume you are using Yelp to search for paver contractors. I just completed our backyard project which included 2/3 of the yard becoming a paver patio and the remaining 1/3 being landscaping gravel. After an exhausting search for the right contractor, I chose Select Pavers and I am very happy I did. So why did I choose Select Pavers? Good communication (they responded to my many questions/comments over email and text which is a must for me due to my busy work schedule), hands-on small business owners (Neto or Luiz showed up to the job every day), Select Pavers offered a lot of small extras others would charged for, for example, installation of PVC/conduit, and their price was very competitive (they really give you a lot of value). Select Pavers is owned/run by two brothers, Luiz and Neto. They are very hands on, know what they are doing, and made a lot of good suggestions after reviewing my plans. They have a good selection of small bobcat skiff loaders and even a small excavator. These can fit into amazingly small areas (less than 6ft wide) and made removal of existing concrete mow strips and walk-ways much easier. Plus because the existing grass area was about 5" above grade and I wanted 6" underlay, they had to remove a lot of dirt (approximately 12 inches in some places). They removed a section of our fence to allow access in/out of the backyard and re-installed it after the job was completed. During the job they would put it back in place temporarily at the end of the day. They also have various dump trucks so we didn't need to have the huge dirt bin in our driveway or next to the house. All the dirt/concrete was dug up, loaded into their trucks and taken away (mostly all in one day). A big concern for me was water drainage, while it doesn't rain often, our weather is very unpredictable and the last thing anyone wants is flooding and water damage. This was an area where Neto really helped. After reviewing my plans and inspecting the yard, he suggested we install three drains in low areas of the yard. They blend well with the pavers and are installed into the border. Issues will arise and sometimes design changes are needed, Neto and Luiz worked with me to solve them in a very professional way So I highly recommend Select Pavers! Here is some additional notes and advice: I suggest you do your own research on paver installation best practices, for example 4" to 6" underlay, barrier cloth between clay & underlay, ... Google is very helpful. Also pick your paver brand and style. Costs vary quite a bit. Visit local building material companies such as PBM or Garden Supply. We looked at Calstone and Belgard and ended up choosing Belgard. I liked that Belgard pallets contain the multiple stone sizes for a particular style (reduces partial pallets & cost). Calstone is very nice too, but their pallets contain a single size (increases partial pallets & cost). The paver style we choose was Catalina Grana which is very popular. We mixed colors to liven things up, choosing 40% Barcelona (reddish) and 60% Victorian (grey) and a Barcelona border. I think it turned out great! During my search, I had a very difficult time getting and keeping some contractor's attention. Some would visit the house, inspect the yard and review my plans, promise a quote and then crickets chirping. I even had some contractors working on a quote, asking questions, then more crickets. For me, communication is super important when choosing a contractor. Poor communication = fail. I received a wide range of prices for basically the same job. I had a fairly detailed drawing plan with dimensions which I highly recommend. Why the huge difference? No telling, but in general if someone's quote is super low or super high, I avoid. Lastly I suggest you do your own research on paver installation best practices, for example having a minimum of 4" to 6" gravel underlay, barrier cloth between clay & underlay, ... Google is very helpful. Select Pavers followed best practices, I didn't have to ask. Good luck! read more
