My wife and I purchased a home in Hayward recently and one of the biggest selling features was the big backyard. Unfortunately for us, the house had a small concrete patio with most of the backyard covered in cheap mulch. We knew from the day we bought the house that we wanted to remove some of the mulch and add concrete in the backyard. We found Jose's Concrete through Yelp and were impressed with his high rating and pictures of past jobs. We reached out to Jose and he personally came out to hear what we had in mind. Jose was very professional and provided us with a very reasonable quote. He was able to start the work within a couple of weeks which was fantastic news since we were eager to get it done. Jose was personally onsite every day that work was being performed and was super punctual. He listened to all our concerns and ideas and made all the necessary adjustments as the work was completed. My only suggestion for anyone having concrete work performed (by any contractor) is to consider how it impacts your irrigation system. Our landscaper recommended a larger opening around the irrigation system and Jose was able to accommodate and also install a PVC runner under the concrete to ensure our irrigation needs were met. Jose came out to give me an estimate for 60' retaining wall so that a wooden side fence can be installed on top. After examining the property line, Jose noticed that my neighbor already have an existing retaining wall with a Chain link fence built on top. Jose suggested i save the money for the retaining wall and just fasten a fence cover over the wall existing chain link fence for privacy. Doing so, not only will i save money on the retaining wall, but also money for the wooden fence. Ill eventually take out the chainlink fence and install a redwood board on board with lattice. Texted Jose yesterday and he was eager to come see the job. After I texted him photos of the area and my address I never heard back from him. I called to see if he wss on the way and he said my job was too small for his company. He has a $3,000.00 minimum. He also doesn't do jobs where they mix concrete on site, also. Prior to cementing a good portion of our backyard we shopped around and got three quotes. Jose's was the highest, not by too much though. We chose Jose for the following reasons: 1. He was referred to us by a family member 2. He was extremely communicative and responsive 3. His initial free estimate visit was mighty thorough, he was great with our 3 kids all in the mix and he asked us to consider a few extra things prior to making a decision- so that we were spending our money wisely on nice work for the long run and that we were informed and aware of all of our options regardless of who we chose to do the work. 4. When we told him the other bid prices, he didn't flinch or try to haggle. He straight up told us that those other bids were extremely good prices IF they were going to do all the quality work that they said the would, without hitting "unforeseen" work that they may charge for and also remaining on schedule. We didn't tell Jose that the other bids were from drills without licenses but have been in the business many years. We have seen Jose's work around Hayward and being that he is licensed with an official website and all, his price then seemed much cheaper and a no-Braine if we wanted to be sure work would be done promptly and properly from start to finish. Jose and crew gave me a start date for the following week due to inclement weather but while we had breaks in the rain, he was able to come over and do whatever work he could during those rain breaks. All said and done, and with rain delays, he was still able to get everything done in 1 week (a large backyard that needed trees uprooted, much old cement busted up and removed, leveling, etc. As you can always expect, we did run into unforeseen issues but Jose took care of them without hesitation or charge!!! The storm also blew a good portion of our fence down, Jose took care of the issue with a great temporary fix, added sleek design lines in our cement and customized and blended and leveled our outdoor sewage overflow into the design so it was all seemless. All this work, extra work, along with constant communication and entertaining my kids... Jose and crew were a great experience to some massive work that I figured I'd run into a few headaches with during the process.
