Cato Paving is redoing the street corners in my Fremont neighborhood for wheelchairs. While still under construction, they left a huge hole between the street curb and sidewalk that a person or animal (i.e., dog on leash) could have easily stumbled into and critically injured themselves. I pointed it out to the crew the day after I saw it and they fixed it by the time I got home. The work they are doing looks good but the negligence is very concerning. read more

14 years ago I installed an asphalt driveway at my house. After all this time I've never maintained it and my driveway lost it's nice black color and developed a few minor cracks. It was time to fix the driveway before I needed more costly repairs. After checking online for highly rated companies, I got a few quotes for filling the cracks and sealing the driveway. The 3 companies I called were all pretty close in price and I decided to go with Cato's. The team arrived on time and went straight to work. Our group of 6 neighbors share common easement/driveway areas totaling 8,200 sq. ft. Several of our asphalt areas were in need of tree root incursion repairs and then resealing of the entire 8,200 sq. ft. common and driveway areas. After contacting 5 companies for estimates, we decided to go with Cato's Paving. Here are some of our reasons and post work comments: 1. Our estimator Juan Delgadillo was extremely professional through all aspects of the bidding and project oversight from day 1 of our contact. Phone calls and texts were returned without delays on any matter or questions that were raised. Juan met with all 6 neighbors and did an onsite walk through explanation of the project and Q&A with all of our neighbors. 2. Cato's bid was competitive and detailed. One of the key reasons we decided to go with Cato's was their more comprehensive bid that included additional details that other bids did not. 3. Cato's back office support included separate invoicing for all 6 neighbors detailing separate work for both private and common areas. 4. Our entire project was done in 2 work days with the work beginning and finishing ahead of time. 5. The work crews were well staffed, professional, and the clean up could not have been better. I would rate this company as extremely poor. We called and emailed this company to come out and give us a quote to stripe our warehouse floor and the dock lanes on January 15th. We received an response on January 16th stating they would send out their estimator as early as the same day. On January 26 I reached back out to Stella at Cato's and inquired on when we should expect the proposal. I was then informed by our on site manager that no one had shown up. Stella stated that she would send an email to Jesse (their estimator). On January 31st I emailed Stella again asking if Jesse was able to get out to our site and prepare the proposal. Stella responded stating that she would follow up with Jesse that day and would get back to my ASAP. On February 1st I emailed Stella regarding the all the details for our project as we still had not hear from Jesse. On February 7th I emailed Stella stating that it appears that Cato's Paving obviously does not want our business. Advising that I have emailed 9 times in the past 3 weeks and the estimator has yet to arrive. Stella responded with, "I apologize for the delay. In speaking with our estimator, we will not be able to provide a proposal for this project." This is after 3 weeks!!! This is not a way to do business! read more

We been using them now for two years now for our Seal Coat, Paving repair and stripe service they always done an Excellent job , great customer service. All the few projects that they did for turned out better. 1/3 of the parking lot about 160000/SF done in two days with Seal Coat the first day then re-stripe the second day. I found Cato's Paving through an ad on Craigslist (kind of sus I know, but hear me out). I will now only use them for my repaving/asphalt needs. I called them on a Monday and I met the estimator Ruben the very next day. He measured out the areas I wanted repaved and was very, very patient to all my questions and concerns. I was very impressed by 1. the level of professionalism, 2. communication I had with Ruben and 3. the very competitive quote I had received. The job is a go with Cato's. I was also impressed by Ruben's knowledge of the ADA regulations for parking lots by explaining to me what the process would be during repaving and the re-striping for the stalls and ADA stall. When I questioned other estimators from different companies on how they would re-stripe the parking lot per ADA regulations, I got a answer that didn't even pertain to my original question. I signed the contract and was scheduled the next week for work to begin. The work crew showed up around 6AM, unloaded all their equipment, began tearing out the old asphalt around 6:45AM and finished everything at around 2:30PM. These guys were fast and efficient! They were constantly using laser levels and checked the elevations/slope while paving to make sure the job was done correctly once. When the work crew was done with the parking lot, I was even more impressed with their cleanup process of their equipment before it was loaded back on to the flat bed trailers and clean up of the work area. If you were like me, hopelessly looking for a asphalt/repaving company that would give you professionalism, honesty, competitiveness, and not getting ripped off, look no further. I live on a non- county maintained road that has twenty homes on it. Over the years the road became riddled with deep potholes that needed to be repaired. After reaching out to a number of paving contractors who were booked, didn't want to work with such a large group, only wanted to do a shallow fill with Cal Trans Slurry overlay or didn't offer the standard, high quality asphalt repair we desired, I worried that we would not get this project off the ground. After reaching out to our local services district (TCSD) I was given Cato's number and I was impressed by the quick response and attention to detail from everyone I spoke with at the company. Robby, the estimator, came to Marin to walk the road and determine which areas needed immediate attention. He quickly sent the estimate and was very clear about what would be required regarding the work. He was also very responsive when questions arose. After checking out their website and meeting with their estimator, we decided to hire them to remove our existing driveway and install a new asphalt driveway. The crew was EXCELLENT. They showed up right on time and ready to work. They had several different work trucks and equipment immediately available so the work never stalled. In the first day, they removed all of the old driveway and poured a new concrete edge. The second day they took great care in leveling out our weird slopped driveway using lasers and such and then prepared it for the hot asphalt delivery. The work was SO clean and professional. He was so friendly and responsive. He was able to let me know a rough cost for my job based on some basic information I had. We hired Cato's to resurface and restripe our commercial building parking lot. Price was very affordable, and they did a fantastic job and were very professional and polite. It did not matter whom we spoke to as the entire crew was very respectful. Six months after the job was completed, we noticed a small hump pushing up on the asphalt. We contacted Cato's and spoke to the estimator, Juan. He was very professional and said not to worry that he would come out the same day! Wow! That does not happen very often. Juan came out as promised and assessed the problem and explained that it is probably some small vegetation attempting to push its way through the asphalt. Juan reassured us that he would have his crew repair the damaged within 2 weeks (since they were very busy). Within a week his crew came and repaired the hump and did a fantastic job! Last week we had Cato's Paving repaving our whole church parking lot and I couldn't be happier. First Alfonso was knowledgeable and he was able to solve all our problems and provide professional advices. He even solved our drainage problem by creating a huge drainage system for us. It was a big job and I was surprised how Alfonso could handled it at ease. Alex's crew was phenomenal. During ground digging several problems arised due to poor underground piping and he was able to give me the best advice on how to correct them and solve the problem right away. Rapha came and inspected the progress from time to time and Alfonso came to address issue in a timely fashion upon request. Everyone in his crew were courteous and experience in the trade. I especially wanted to recommend Ricky Flores who done my parking lot striping and signs. Due to the irregular shape of our parking lot, it was extremely hard to decide how to maximize the parking spaces. Ricky spent time together with me to analyze the layout and came up with the best solution. Now my parking lot had increased spaces and it is easy to park without too much turning. When I decided to add 12 more concrete wheel stops and 2 more signs with pole. He picked them up and completed the job exactly the way I wanted.
