I would have given ZERO stars. Don't trust their overall YELP rating. I made that mistake. I feel the finished work (driveway, pathways, and wall) are reasonably acceptable. This is ONLY because we checked daily work and instructed them to fix mistakes and sloppy work. They spent a lot of their time redoing what should have been completed right the first time. Daily progress (or lack there of) showed us that the owner/project manager (Tevita/Mata) is not a good project manager nor that he gave his crew clear direction on this project. The process after contract signing was horrible...not at all professional. The project took much longer than Tevita initially quoted (over 2 months vs the 2 weeks he originally told us). This resulted in change orders and cost overruns. He also tried to charge me to fix their breakage/mistakes/errors (e.g., fixing the sidewalk his workers broke). His crew was not respectful of our property (we had to live with their mess...it's not a vacant lot). They did not regularly clean up the work site nor organize equipment and materials left onsite. Seeing their lunch garbage (cans, bottles, wrappers, etc.) at the end of their workday was common. This continued even after repeated complaints to Tevita and to his crew. No one on site could to provide straight answers as to that day's work or when specific project goals would be completed. Whenever I would spoke with him, Tevita made excuses, provided misinformation, denied deliverables he previously promised, and deflected from answering direct questions. He has a habit of talking over the customer when asked questions he doesn't like. On at least one occasion, he raised his voice and started yelling to avoid answering questions. If it was not in writing, he'd say it wasn't what we discussed. I have never had such issues when working with professional/reputable companies. Tevita and his crew failed to meet every single deliverable date he set. I found him very difficult to work with. I feel that he does not show proper respect to the customer. Instead he appears to think that the customer, the person paying him, should accept subpar work. I suspect that he may also not fully understand the processes involved with the work being performed. I feel that Tevita and Lamata Concrete are not professional. They didn't use professional equipment and they didn't manage the job site or their onsite work time professionally. Their workers typically started late morning and were gone by early afternoon. Lamata Concrete has major logistical problems. They couldn't get an adequately-sized crew or required materials to the job site at the start of any given day, typically interrupting workflow for hours to go fetch supplies. Had they staged materials and tools at the worksite (where there was ample area to store all materials needed for the entire project) and had his crew worked a full 8 hours per day at the job site, I believe they could have finished weeks ago. They are SLOW...3 weeks for a stamped concrete driveway and pathways. I definitely CANNOT recommend them for a cinder block wall. It took way too long (over 2 months) to complete. I feel like they have never built this type of wall. I regret hiring Lamata Concrete. I CANNOT recommend Lamata Concrete nor would I use them again. They were such a hassle to work with compared to the many other professional/reputable companies I have hired. My opinion...take their negative YELP reviews seriously and ask for references and talk to those references. Tevita's response is a great example of how he makes excuses, provides misinformation, denies promised deliverables, and deflects from addressing the real issue. I find it a bit childish and very unprofessional. read more

Lamata Concrete - You seemed eager enough to sign this for your final payment. - Masonry/Concrete Near Me

After recently expanding our driveway with pavers, we needed to have the concrete opening where the sidewalk meets the street widened to match the new driveway width. Lamata Concrete proved to be the perfect partner for this because the 1) got back to me the quickest, 2) were not deterred by the relatively small size of the job, 3) they were able to fit us into their schedule within a week, 4) they were very price competitive, 5) they communicated very well, 6) and the executed the project quickly and flawlessly (showed up when they said they would and did quality work). I would highly recommend them! read more

Requested quote to replace existing concrete stairs. New stairs must meet code and include drainage system from drains around steps to front sidewalk. Tevita (owner) was professional, on-time, and knowledgeable about code, product, design, and quality. While pricing was somewhat higher than other competitors, the final outcome was stellar. Quality was evident as examples include: 1. Clean work space 2. Design compliments the back of the house 3. Steps meet code 4. Beautiful steps that, unlike old ones, are safe 5. Mata is our guy. Great quality of work and always works with us on a fair price. We will keep coming back for all of our concrete projects. FIVE STARS read more

Mata and his crew did a great job replacing cracked and broken old concrete around our Berkeley home. Easy to work with and fair.

I had a large asphalt driveway that needed to be replaced. It is wide, steep, and had invasive bamboo sprouting from cracks. It was a mess. To make matters worse, it is highly visible from the street. In addition, parts of the pad at the top were inclined toward the garage, allowing water to seep in when it rained. We contacted Lamata Concrete for a quote. Once we signed the contract, they gave us an anticipated start date and end date. To my surprise, they met both commitments and completed the project within the estimated cost. In addition, they worked with the city to obtain necessary permits and inspections. I was amazed by their skill in solving problems as they arise in a project. read more

We now have a go to concrete company. We have a side walk that was tilted and had become a trip hazard due to roots from a long gone tree in the front of the house. Finding someone to do what seemed like a small job wasn't something we were looking forward to. Thanks to the reviews on Yelp, we contacted Lamata Concrete for a quote. They got back with us the same day, gave us a fair quote, and were so nice and friendly. The work was scheduled 3 days days later and the guys worked so hard breaking up that old sidewalk, cutting out all the tree roots, and laying the concrete. An excellent job and an excellent company that we wouldn't hesitate to us again. The team was great, management was great, and it was wonderful doing business with a someone from a family owned business. The sidewalk looks wonderful and we are so happy. Thanks, guys! read more

Mata and his crew deserve 10 stars. We reached out to them for a 2nd quote to build a new wall around our pool and make repairs to an existing wall. The job was a bit complex and the design plans were a bit fluid, not yet set in stone. Mata and his team showed up to assess the job. He was communicative, responsive, AND the price was right on the money. He was a bit less than the other bid but that was only the cherry on top. The deciding factor was his professionalism. In a world of shady contractors and missed deadlines, the Lamata Concrete team shine bright. He suggested revisions based on his experience and co created with us. The wall looks incredible. They showed up on time and said what they'd do and did what they said. Not only are we raving fans and want the world to know via this review but we also hired them for a follow up project to lay a concrete path in our front yard. read more

You want someone to hold your hand and be a 'yes' man, this ain't it. Why I yelped? I needed concrete work. Mata knows his trade and that's why I like him. Is he rough on the edges, yea he can be. But keep in mind, I'm not trying to wine and dine the man, I'm trying to get work done, and he did just that, within time frame too. He focuses on Oakland, so no wonder he's like that. You Oakland folk better start treating your neighbors with more love instead being just full of yourself. Most of these negative reviews appear to be hurt feelings. If you're too much into your feeling, yelp a psychologist. If you need Corcrete work, contact Lamata Concrete. read more

I just had the best conversation with these guys. I called trying to get a quote to install concrete floors in my loft. The good news is they really knew what they were talking about. We had a very productive, open, honest conversation about my project. They just seemed so knowledgeable and within a very short time discovered the bad news. My loft won't support concrete flooring. UGH! I am so upset because this is EXACTLY the type of guy I like to do business with. Open, honest and knowledgeable. I have called so many other companies and wasn't able to get these kind of direct answers. He was able to assess things quickly by asking some specific questions and looking at a few photos I sent him. The only bad thing I can say is I am upset I can't use them. read more

This was on the backside of my house and a relatively small project, but Mata made it feel important. The crew worked without a break to go from start to finish in a day. It was first discussed on a Friday and was completed the next business day. Thanks team! read more

I hired Lamata Concrete to level an old garage floor so that the door would be flush with the concrete to keep out pests. They did an amazing job! They really took the time to do the job right, even though it was a long day. They left their worksite clean. The price was very fair and considering the effort and care they took and the excellent results, it was well worth it. The job was easy to schedule too, great communication. Mata and the crew did an amazing job. Highly recommended. Built a concrete foundation for my Tuff Shed. Very happy with the results.

Mata was great to work with. Our job was a small one, but that didn't stop him from giving us quality service and workmanship. He went above and beyond to make sure the new sidewalk would be level, we had a huge probelmatic pine tree in the front yard with roots that uplifted the existing sidewalk and driveway and Lamata Concrete crew didn't hesitate to work on removing them. Mata knocked this out in a few days. We are so happy with the outcome. I wish I had found him sooner. Looking forward to working with them again on future projects. read more

Quick estimate, fair price, and was able to begin the job quickly. We added several items to the original job with Tevita's suggestion and I'm glad we did. He was more than willing to work with me on price and scope. I would say that his and his crew's forte is concrete work; my new retaining walls and concrete driveway are beautifully crafted. Also his drainage work - excellently connected my downspouts to underground drains. I had also asked him to put a slurry seal on my asphalt driveway and to rebuild a fence. While concrete work would get a "A" grade, I'd give their slurry seal/fence work a B. read more

Fast, reasonably priced, high-quality work, clean job site, great communication - it was so nice to work with them! HIghly recommend!

Could not be happier with our driveway expansion project. Every aspect of working with Lamata was fantastic. They responded to our quote request incredibly promptly. Their prices are extremely competitive. They were able to do the work within just days of our first requesting a quote. They arrived on time and completed the entire project in under a full day and were courteous throughout and conscientious and clean in all their work and treatment of our property. If we could we would give Lamata Concrete 10 stars! read more

Lamata Concrete - Driveway expansion - Masonry/Concrete Near Me

We hired Lamata to tear out a side lawn and pour an extension to our driveway. We did most of our communication over Yelp, getting the quote and settling on a price. The workers came early in the morning to start work on excavating, leveling, and laying rebar. Mata came by to discuss the work and some additional work that needed to be added on, such as a drain and removing an old piece of concrete to repair it. Mata was very friendly and knowledgeable. His guys worked fast and had all prep work done within an afternoon. Mata informed us he would try to get on the schedule for a cement truck but was unable to so he decided to have his guys hand mix and pour. They showed up on a Monday and got right to work, mixing and pouring around 500 sq feet of concrete. They worked for about 12 hours. They came the next day to clean up and do the finish work. All in all, the whole process was less than a week. We made sure to stay in contact via text with Mata during the whole process. read more

I am a happy camper. Mata provided a good price to replace my defective Retaining Wall. He and his crew did everything they said they would do in a timely manner. I appreciate that they were able to take on my small job quickly and did a very efficient job!

Mata did 2 driveways and a walkway. They did it to my high expectations without arguing or questions. Their price on the project was very very reasonable for his high quality. Crew was fast and efficient with no delays. They finished the big job in 7 days. Great communication through out the project. He left me with a confident feeling that there would be no issues from start to finish. He did the job to code. His crew cleaned up with out leaving a mess after the job was done. The crew was very professional too. His response to questions within an hour or within minutes. Hard to find a team that is easy to work with and meeting my expectations at a great price. read more

This business responded to my yelp estimate request for repaving a parking lot saying "$55K". I yelp messaged them twice, emailed them twice, call them twice and left voice mail asking them for a written estimate outlining what they are going to do for $55K. I receive No response. I finally called again and spoke to the owner. He told me that a written estimate will be $150.00. I ask if there is any guarantee on the work, he said "concrete crack, asphalt crack, the earth move we can't guarantee.... blah blah". Let's just say it was not a pleasant conversation. I am not going to hire this company. I have gotten FREE WRITTEN estimate from other companies that are very pleasant to communicate with and responsive. eg: All American paving, Calvac paving, CDM Asphalt.. This is not a review on Lamata workmanship, but my experience dealing with them just trying to get an estimate. read more

Mata and his team did an amazing job turning our asphalt driveway to brushed concrete with stamped border. Each day they were on time, worked very hard, and communicated from beginning to end was seamless and proactive. We highly recommend contacting Lamata for your concrete project, you won't regret it! read more

Lamata Concrete just finished a project for us, replacing the backyard and front yard concrete with pavers. Tevita and his crew were easy to work with. My cousin came by and loved the work will be referring him to you guys! read more

The price was good, but that is as far as it went. Communication was poor to non-existent. The excavation was done and the pour of the new driveway was reasonable, but the finish work was sloppy. The stamping was inconsistent and they left boot prints in the stamped concrete and the brushed concrete. Stamping we too wet leaving ugly texture. forms on steps left ugly marks. Mata missed four appointments in one week to come and address the problem. Never called to say he wasn't coming. When he did come he said it could all be fixed. Two weeks later he had not scheduled the repair work nor responded to my calls, texts, or email. He took 90% of the agreed upon funding and has now forfeited the balance of the contract. Those funds now have to cover about 30% of the cost of redoing the stamping. Will ultimately spend as much as the higher bids I didn't take. Should have known better, Cheap is often costly and ugly. read more

We had Lamata Concrete come out to our home in Concord to pour a simple slab on a side yard. Even before coming out, Mata took a look at some pictures I sent him and he estimated a price over the phone which was super convenient. The day he came out to look at the project site, he confirmed the price he quoted over the phone and we signed our contract. This was on a Friday, he had his crew at our place Monday! His guys were super nice, respectful, and most of all: busted out the job and finished the same day.
