Henry and his team did a phenomenal job replacing our flagstone patio and multiple staircases and building a concrete retaining wall. Their work is very precise and has a high level professional finish. Originally we weren't planning on doing cemented flagstone or a retaining wall, but after a site visit Henry suggested we make those changes and was able to work with our budget for this major upgrade. It was 100% the right decision especially for our kids to run around safely. He also made some great suggestions for design changes such as capping the concrete wall and installing lights. Overall the team is very professional, works quickly and efficiently, and use materials very wisely so there isn't any waste. We have had Henry work on two projects already at our house and have another 3 projects lined up for future work. Could not recommend them more for any stone work. read more

This review is long overdue and I have to say that the work that Henry and his crew did was fantastic. I went through many bids and and felt most comfortable with Henrys after reviewing all contractors near and far. Another thing that helped was we wanted to support a local business and Solid Ground looked to fit that. Let me start by saying the project was probably on the larger scale of things (3-4 weeks) and was probably bigger when all was said and done after making changes on the fly. One thing we appreciated was Henrys ability to shift gears on the fly as we made changes during the project. Though that set us back with timing, I think as we saw the project come to fruition, we saw more of what we wanted and made change orders to ensure we received what we had envisioned and part of Henry working with us is what made that happen. I can honestly say that Henry had a lot of patience to deal with us and he took our changes well...probably not the best choice for anyone that is looking to complete a large project. Change orders add up quick. The project - Sloped Yard, Lots of Dirt, Had a Vision, No plans, No large machinery can be used due to access and the only thing Henry had to go off of was my scratch notes on an iPad that I drew up (I know nothing about engineering or CAD, etc...just drew up what we wanted and said this is what we want). Voila...Henry took on the project and we were off. As a homeowner, my goal was "just get it done"...how hard can it be? Well after watching hours and hours of these guys working day in and day out, I have to say that they busted their butts and got things done. In the end, we ended up with the yard we wanted, 26 tons of dirt removed and usable space that my kids love. We still have other landscaping to do, but when it came to bringing my drawings to life, Henry and team handled it. What had been completed pretty much what we wanted and as all things we learned a lot through the project. Henry did do what we asked and made changes as they came up and we appreciated his time, honesty, hard work and skill. Some of the things that this project included that his team handled that are not always captured in pictures: - Retaining Walls - Leveling the yard (raising one side almost 3-4ft and some closer to 5 ft depending on the side and where on the slope) - Lots of drains (each level of walls and lower level before house) - Pavers 2nd level - Custom stairs - Masonry Step for rear door - Gravel lower level - Edging for planters - Removing 20+ tons of dirt by buckets - Install commercial style swing set (11ft tall, 3ft deep footing) ...Henry and team, Thank you! A couple of years ago, we started looking around for a reputable masonry crew for some retaining wall projects we wanted to do. We interviewed multiple contractors and fortunately chose Solid Ground Masonry. After Henry came on site more than once, and was patient with the process of our neighbors and their insurance company dragging their feet, which impacted our start date, two years later we finally were able to have his crew come out. They did an amazing job, in a short period of time, removing the old cracked concrete pad under the pergola and constructing three large terraced walls out of McNear versa Lock. What the pictures don't show is all of the incredible infrastructure supporting the long-term stability of the walls, including thick reinforced concrete feet and extensive, integrated drainage behind each and every wall, all connected and plumbed to drain away from the property. Henry and SGMC are wonderful. They poured a 12x12 concrete pad and fixed a retaining wall for us.

We hired Henry and his crew to replace 125 feet of driveway and 50 feat of sidewalk. The back half of the driveway is now a pathway of slate set in sand over a weed barrier and a crushed rock base.. The front half of the driveway and sidewalks are exposed aggregate concrete. In my forty-five years as a homeowner, I can say that my experience with Henry is far and away the best I've ever had with a contractor. The quality of work is of the highest order, as the photos should show. His design eliminated a ramp to our shed and a step from our back porch. The crew kept the site neat and safe throughout the two-week project. He was actively involved in the entire project, and was on-site at least 75% of the time. Henry's skill as a communicator is superb. He listened to what we wanted, asked questions when he was unsure, and produced what we asked for. It was very clear that he cares about the quality of work and his clients. He did several things that were not in the scope of services, some at his initiative and some at my request. In particular, he replaced and extended a step to the front porch that he felt was unsafe; that was not in the scope, and there was no charge for the work. He came early for our first appointment, produced the estimate sooner than he predicted, and started the job on-time. I generally don't leave yelp reviews, but I have to leave one for Henry and Solid Ground because they blew us away with the quality of their work, their attention to detail, their expertise, their professionalism, and their ability to turn our layperson ideas and descriptions into exactly what we wanted. The job was pretty complicated We hired Henry and Solid Ground to repair/replace the 3-4 foot retaining wall and the fence above it, and to build a deck--all of this within just a few feet of a creek. The old wall, made of railroad ties, was probably built in the 40s, and it was collapsing causing our backyard to slip towards the creek. Solid Ground put in a fantastic new concrete wall--with a drainage system, a beautiful hog wire fence, a wooden deck, and DG patio. We had an old fence that was coming down and an old cracking foundation from a previous owners unpermitted dwelling. The sides had crumbled off in spots and there were crumbling tiles rather than spend the insane amount of money to remove if we hired Solid Ground to resurface it to become a raised patio and build a retaining wall so our dogs wouldn't fight with the neighbors dogs where the fence was coming down.
