    Flagstone Walk

I highly recommend this wonderful company. All of the staff are professional, responsive, and knowledgeable. I wanted to upgrade my front walk to something more than just a plain concrete slab. Henry, the owner, listened to my ideas and enhanced them in many ways. He quickly scheduled my project. The work was completed in half the estimated times, even when working around a couple of major rain and windstorms. The cost was fair and reasonable. I now have a beautiful new flagstone front walk!

A couple of years ago, we started looking around for a reputable masonry crew for some retaining wall projects we wanted to do. We interviewed multiple contractors and fortunately chose Solid Ground Masonry. After Henry came on site more than once, and was patient with the process of our neighbors and their insurance company dragging their feet, which impacted our start date, two years later we finally were able to have his crew come out. They did an amazing job, in a short period of time, removing the old cracked concrete pad under the pergola and constructing three large terraced walls out of McNear versa Lock. What the pictures don't show is all of the incredible infrastructure supporting the long-term stability of the walls, including thick reinforced concrete feet and extensive, integrated drainage behind each and every wall, all connected and plumbed to drain away from the property. We highly recommend Solid Ground for Henry's deep technical knowledge, his extremely hard-working crew, and the highly responsive and professional team of Ashley and Mary in the front office.

Henry, Ashley and the whole Solid Ground Masonry and Concrete team were great from start to finish. We had a pretty large (for us!) sidewalk and curb cut job and they not only gave me a solid bid, but also gave us an instant sense of competence and knowledge of what needed to happen. Henry was invaluable helping us navigate issues with a city tree and the final product turned out really beautifully.

    Back yard pathway

We hired Henry and his crew to replace 125 feet of driveway and 50 feat of sidewalk. The back half of the driveway is now a pathway of slate set in sand over a weed barrier and a crushed rock base.. The front half of the driveway and sidewalks are exposed aggregate concrete. In my forty-five years as a homeowner, I can say that my experience with Henry is far and away the best I've ever had with a contractor. The quality of work is of the highest order, as the photos should show. His design eliminated a ramp to our shed and a step from our back porch. The crew kept the site neat and safe throughout the two-week project. He was actively involved in the entire project, and was on-site at least 75% of the time. Henry's skill as a communicator is superb. He listened to what we wanted, asked questions when he was unsure, and produced what we asked for. It was very clear that he cares about the quality of work and his clients. He did several things that were not in the scope of services, some at his initiative and some at my request. In particular, he replaced and extended a step to the front porch that he felt was unsafe; that was not in the scope, and there was no charge for the work. He came early for our first appointment, produced the estimate sooner than he predicted, and started the job on-time. Henry and his crew were kind and friendly throughout the project, and any problems that came up were solved with a smile and success. I could not ask for more.

I generally don't leave yelp reviews, but I have to leave one for Henry and Solid Ground because they blew us away with the quality of their work, their attention to detail, their expertise, their professionalism, and their ability to turn our layperson ideas and descriptions into exactly what we wanted. The job was pretty complicated We hired Henry and Solid Ground to repair/replace the 3-4 foot retaining wall and the fence above it, and to build a deck--all of this within just a few feet of a creek. The old wall, made of railroad ties, was probably built in the 40s, and it was collapsing causing our backyard to slip towards the creek. Solid Ground put in a fantastic new concrete wall--with a drainage system, a beautiful hog wire fence, a wooden deck, and DG patio. They went out of their way to nail the details beyond what we expected. These guys are amazing. You should definitely hire them. We recommend them 110%. Before and after photos below.

Great experience. Totally Professional, dedicated and they clearly know their business. Our challenging concept idea /request came to life as they transformed what was a then falling apart , safety hazard set of old stairs, landing and more stairs to a now beautiful- epic entrance and statement addition to our home. A lot of joy went into this journey. Seeing the transformation while also hearing Henry and his team clearly enjoying their work- singing, music - how cool was that! Highly recommend. Call if you want to hear all the details or should you care to visit to see the actual results your welcome. Peter / Oakland Text 952-454-7925

    Bluestone

We could not be happier with the work that Henry and his amazing crew did putting in a 2000 square foot bluestone patio for us. Our previous concrete patio was cracking in multiple places due to tree roots growing under it. We met with several companies to get bids for the job, but all of them specialized in pavers, which was not the look we wanted. Henry was able to create our exact vision, and his work ethic and quality is unparalleled. He and his team cut every single stone and put together what I can only call a stone puzzle work of art. During the entirety of the 6 week project, he never missed a day, was an excellent communicator, and worked incredibly hard. If you are looking for incredibly high quality stone and concrete work, I highly recommend solid ground.

We couldn't be more happy with the job Solid Ground Stone completed! From start to finish Ashely and Henry were super friendly and responsive to all our questions! We had an old fence that was coming down and an old cracking foundation from a previous owners unpermitted dwelling. The sides had crumbled off in spots and there were crumbling tiles rather than spend the insane amount of money to remove if we hired Solid Ground to resurface it to become a raised patio and build a retaining wall so our dogs wouldn't fight with the neighbors dogs where the fence was coming down. The job was completed in three days and Henry offered to come back once the concrete cured to help us with screwing in a post to the end of the retaining wall for the fence we built on top!

This is ONLY because we checked daily work and instructed them to fix mistakes and sloppy work. They spent a lot of their time redoing what should have been completed right the first time. Daily progress (or lack there of) showed us that the owner/project manager (Tevita/Mata) is not a good project manager nor that he gave his crew clear direction on this project. The process after contract signing was horrible...not at all professional. The project took much longer than Tevita initially quoted (over 2 months vs the 2 weeks he originally told us). This resulted in change orders and cost overruns. He also tried to charge me to fix their breakage/mistakes/errors (e.g., fixing the sidewalk his workers broke). His crew was not respectful of our property (we had to live with their mess...it's not a vacant lot). They did not regularly clean up the work site nor organize equipment and materials left onsite. Seeing their lunch garbage (cans, bottles, wrappers, etc.) at the end of their workday was common. This continued even after repeated complaints to Tevita and to his crew. No one on site could to provide straight answers as to that day's work or when specific project goals would be completed. Whenever I would spoke with him, Tevita made excuses, provided misinformation, denied deliverables he previously promised, and deflected from answering direct questions. He has a habit of talking over the customer when asked questions he doesn't like. On at least one occasion, he raised his voice and started yelling to avoid answering questions. If it was not in writing, he'd say it wasn't what we discussed. I have never had such issues when working with professional/reputable companies. Tevita and his crew failed to meet every single deliverable date he set. I found him very difficult to work with. I feel that he does not show proper respect to the customer. Instead he appears to think that the customer, the person paying him, should accept subpar work. I suspect that he may also not fully understand the processes involved with the work being performed. I feel that Tevita and Lamata Concrete are not professional. They didn't use professional equipment and they didn't manage the job site or their onsite work time professionally. Their workers typically started late morning and were gone by early afternoon. Lamata Concrete has major logistical problems. They couldn't get an adequately-sized crew or required materials to the job site at the start of any given day, typically interrupting workflow for hours to go fetch supplies. Had they staged materials and tools at the worksite (where there was ample area to store all materials needed for the entire project) and had his crew worked a full 8 hours per day at the job site, I believe they could have finished weeks ago. They are SLOW...3 weeks for a stamped concrete driveway and pathways. I definitely CANNOT recommend them for a cinder block wall. It took way too long (over 2 months) to complete. I feel like they have never built this type of wall. I regret hiring Lamata Concrete. I CANNOT recommend Lamata Concrete nor would I use them again. They were such a hassle to work with compared to the many other professional/reputable companies I have hired. My opinion...take their negative YELP reviews seriously and ask for references and talk to those references. Tevita's response is a great example of how he makes excuses, provides misinformation, denies promised deliverables, and deflects from addressing the real issue. I find it a bit childish and very unprofessional.

NAB removed all the bad concrete and replaced it with pavers, and on the other side of the court, they added 5 feet of concrete where we had lawn, as well as adding to our existing retaining wall. I contacted Nick, our site manager from NAB, and he was very responsive, and arranged for Nate (the company president) to come out right away and discuss the matter, which was resolved that same day to my complete satisfaction. Nick also was happy to arrange for a few other small tasks related to bricks and concrete on our property to be taken care of, and they were - at no added cost.
