To get this part out of the way--the work turned out beautifully, the materials were top notch, and the price ended up being lower than what we were quoted by another company. But what was truly remarkable was that I could tell that Neto was fundamentally and genuinely driven by his wish for our family to have a positive experience. He was going to be happy if WE were happy. He understood that a big change to the appearance of our home was a scary one, and knew how to create confidence in us by giving an intuitive balance of hand holding through the process, and autonomy in decision making. When I was out of the house and couldn't be there to approve the lines of the walkway, Neto made it work by video chatting me with a camera. The work was done so efficiently and masterfully, it felt like a joy instead of a hassle. It has been almost a year since I got my driveway done by Select Pavers, and the pavers have held up well. So finally posting this review. These guys are amazing! They dont subcontract the work like a lot of other construction companies. Luiz or Neto actually supervise the work themselves. So the quality of the work is really good! And you can do a lot of customization and get the exact setup you want. If some work needs to to be added after the contract is signed, they are really accommodating and do not charge exorbitant rates. Their equipment is good quality, which results in less noise during the construction process. read more

Amazing job. I used them several years ago to redo my whole front area/driveway. They gave us the best quote, and delivered on both the price and the schedule they committed to in the quote. Even better, I called them recently because the drains they installed were overflowing. Even years later, they came out, inspected their work, and found that we had some leaves from a nearby tree that fell in the drain and clogged it. So not even their fault, but they inspected/fixed it. I will always Neto & Luiz anytime I need work done that they can accomplish - incredibly responsible, nice, and clear with their communication. This review is long overdue, as the Select Pavers team finished my patio in Nov 2020. I have now had almost 7 months to enjoy my beautiful patio!!! Replacing my townhome's old rotten deck with hardscape was one of the best decisions I made. Choosing to work with Select Pavers was the other. 6/5 Stars! They went above and beyond. We went from a single car driveway with cracked concrete. My house is on a slight downhill angle and the water flows towards my house. We went with pavers that can now comfortably fit 2 cars with enough space in between to open doors for my kids. Select pavers made the entire process easy. They were very professional and punctual. They also helped me reinforce the foundation of my house and suggested we put a front border around it so water wouldn't go under my house. It's already been a wet November so having that extra reinforcement really puts my mind at ease. We were also able to redo the rest of my front yard so now, the entire front of my house looks better too. Ive already had many compliments from neighbors. I just completed a 2-week long project with Select Pavers and I'm adding to the chorus of satisfied customers. Luiz and his crew transformed my badly aging backyard into an amazing beautiful space that exceeded my expectations. My backyard was breaking down with failing retaining walls and ground covering full of weeds. I needed to do a total demo/remodel of the space to make it livable again. I contacted a couple of paver companies and Select Pavers was the last the one I interviewed. I'm glad I did because after meeting Luiz and discussing my project, I felt he was in a different class compared with the others. He's very patient and fully explains how things will be worked on in great detail. He also addressed many of my concerns with helpful and creative suggestions. For instance, I was really concerned about how to prevent tree roots from damaging my new retaining wall and he was the only contractor that recommended adding a root barrier around the trees. He was also the quickest in getting me a quote...and it was competitive compared with the others I received. But I felt I was getting more value from him compared to the others because he would take care of issues that the others would have tasked me to make arrangements for. That saves me time and hassle. Working my project with Luiz and his team was a real collaborative effort. Whenever I had ideas for changes in material or design, he was always accomodative to them. He literally went the extra mile to make sure the look of my project came out exactly as I had hoped for. Select Pavers did our paver patio project recently and we couldn't have been happier. The experience of looking for a contractor for the project was daunting to say the least. There are plenty of flaky contractors out there but there are also some good honest contractor as well.. you just have to be lucky or get reliable referrals. We interviewed about 7 different contractors and we ultimately went with Luiz of Select Pavers for his professionalism, competitively cost, transparency and honesty. I wanted to update the the exterior of the home while also dealing with a crackled asphalt driveway and ugly green perimeter walkways. I got multiple bids and met Luiz and Neto from Select Pavers who suggested also updating the front entry with porcelain pavers. That turned out to be an excellent idea. I decided to go with Select Pavers because of all of the positive reviews and because they presented the most competitive bid. We saw the paver options available and decided to go with a more modern look. Like many others, I moved to the Bay and was shocked at how few homes existed here and how little you got for the money. The place we bought in Willow Glen was on a promising lot but it had not been kept up. The back yard was overgrown, patio cracked/dirty and it was sad to look at let alone spend time in. When you deal with Select Pavers, you are dealing with the business owner themselves- both Luiz and Neto- no third party, no sales person, no sub contractors. Its the bosses and their own crew which gives them a lot of control over how the project progresses. Before I started my paving project, I called several companies. Although Select Pavers was not the lowest priced, they are reasonably and competitively priced as they don't need to pay for marketing cost and other overhead with the bigger companies. Luiz who is the boss listened to all the little details, gave his recommendations but was never pushy and was respectful of what we want in the project. Once we decided to go with Select Pavers, everything was just clockwork. They bring in all the machineries needed for excavating and demo and within 2-3 days got most of the work done. 5/11/2018 Select Pavers job for satisfied customer in Newark, CA (See photos of project): As homeowners living "begrudgingly" for a number of years with a backyard of degraded terrain and rough topography--we eventually faced the need to plan for a major workover and a complete redesign of our decrepit yard. We required experienced craftsmanship for a complex excavation and hardscape design. Meticulous research of multiple sources was performed to find contractors for a redesign, in order to integrate a paver and patio installation. Ultimately, in our quest we chose Select Pavers of Hayward, CA because of their documented history of positive reviews and from our conversations with on-site visits with them and their staff. Overall, through the expertise of Luiz, Neto and their experienced crew, they succeeded in accommodating our unanticipated challenges in carefully accessing our backyard with equipment to 1) excavate a cracked concrete patio due to upheaval from large underlying tree roots; 2) trench a French drainage system around the perimeter; 3) strengthen and readjust the gradient of the existing second story deck with new posts and piers; and 4) incorporate architecturally desirable interlocking pavers with a Roman-block wall design. Throughout the project, Select Pavers frequently exceeded our expectations, where crews worked seamlessly together in a cooperative fashion as they progressed from start to finish. In the beginning of the job, excavation required the concrete patio and underlying tree roots to be removed and hauled away. Old posts and piers were removed, while new posts and piers were installed to stabilize and adjust the second-story deck gradient. A sloped paver foundation of layered strata of sand, gravel and a protective, permeable fabric was installed to replace the old patio. Interlocking pavers were layered over the paver foundation into a desirable artistic design and enjoined together with high grade of adhesive polymeric sand. French drains were trenched around the perimeter of the pavers in order to provide gradient drainage of the sloped pavers. The trench was imbedded with underground perforated drainage pipes and covered with drainage gravel. Within the same trench, underground water-proof conduit pipes provided electric power to new outlets. A wrap of protective, permeable fabric encapsulated the rock-filled trench to seal against contamination from outside soil and plant roots. The French drain, with numerous cleanouts, also was interconnected to roof gutter drains, so all lines would link together and drain to the outer end of the property. Fist-size river rock capped the surface of the drainage ditch--to enjoin an attractive link between the outer edge of the paver patio and a surrounding Roman-block wall that was installed in the final design. The block wall that surrounding the outside of the French drain consisted of a soil-banked barrier/sitting wall of Roman blocks, sealed together, and stabilized by a foundation of concrete-rebar base. The block wall tied the entire design together, wrapping an extended fire pit/barbecue paver area and a Roman-block step-stairs that invited you to the upper level of the soil-graded yard. Raised capstones built into all corners and at the two sides of the block stairs enhanced the character of the Roman wall and paver patio design. Thus, an enclosed mini forum was created with interlocking pavers under a second-story deck and expanded yard area. Completing the forum was the surrounding French drain with the Roman capstone block-sitting wall--all within an open yard (to be landscaped) with an expansive view of the adjacent ponds in the wildlife refuge--facing a western sunset. In conclusion, in contracting with Select Pavers, their name and reputation speaks for themselves--to "Select" for high quality professionalism to obtain a fitting, artistic and desirable design. Neighbors and friends also were impressed at the yard transformation and the quality of craftsmanship in fitting the overall design into an attractive setting. Most important, the Select Pavers crew was knowledgeable, willing and able to adapt to details needing changes or modifications as they occurred. Their prices also were very reasonable and competitive. They come highly recommended, and I would hire them again. In hindsight, clearly we should have completed this project years ago, with more years to experience the beauty and functionality of a transformed yard. The existing pavers were old and never installed properly to begin with. Neto was very responsive and offered me several options to fit my budget. Hearing about all the scary experiences from my friends about landscaping contractors I was not sure if I made the right choice before the project started. I met Luiz onsite explained him my vision and went over the details and measurements. After we finalized the quote and he gave a start date and Eta. We were doing our front yard pavers+grass. From the beginning to end they were on time, kept me updated with the progress on a daily basis along with pictures. They easily worked with my general contractor without any conflicts. In the first phase they were done with pavers and the output was extraordinary executed my vision well, I did have some corrections to do once I saw things on the ground they happily took them out and redid without any fuss. After the pavers we had to take a break to finish the grass as there were other things going on, when they come back and did the grass it just elevated the outlook of the house and the curb appeal. There was an other landscaping job going on with my neighbor at the exact same time and I could see the difference in grass quality. More than that they were monitoring the sprinklers for grass everyday like clock work, infact someone disconnected the sprinkler system power by mistake and since luizs team was monitoring for few weeks we get a call to water the grass, this kind of service is amazing. You get what you pay for. Since the project in my neighborhood started around the same time as us I could see how select pavers have done their job like promised and with quality. I recently hired Select Pavers to do my backyard and side yard. It was a huge project, covering over 1,400 square feet. Luiz was fantastic in taking my vision of the patio and making it a dream come true. He is very detailed oriented and offered ideas that truly enhanced my conception and was so respectful in meeting every one of my concerns, including my concern regarding the root systems of two very old trees in the backyard and another concern regarding a constant gopher nuisance. The men on his crew were so amazing, hard working, kind, and like Luiz, perfectionists. During the whole construction phase, not one of my 24 rose bushes was ever disturbed. Our yard, front and back was a mess. Our wooden deck was falling apart, and the weeds replaced what little grass we had. We met with Luiz of Select Pavers and he showed us what was possible with our space. He listened to our comments and input and devised a plan. The price he gave us for the job was 1/3 to 1/2 of the estimates others offered. Luiz showed us paver options and various patterns. At his recommendation, we added a retaining wall at seating height. The project began on a Monday morning. The crew was there every week-day until the project was completed, a total of 12 days. At the end of every day, the site was left organized and clean. Neto managed the project. He made recommendations to add appeal to the finished project. For example, he advised us on the placement of the plants in the garden areas. The organization of the team and their work impressed us. At the end of each day, we received a text with pictures of what was completed and the next day's goals. I was impressed with their process, hard work, and the quality of the finished project. People that walk by now compliment us on our paved driveway and beautiful yard. Excellent job they did on my driveway. Very quick, accurate, and efficient. They carefully avoided any possible damage to existing communications. When they found an unexpected problem (wet mud underneath the existing old paving), they immediately fixed it with no additional charge. Also they added some small but nice extras to the project.
