The short and skinny of it: highly recommend Viking Pavers. If I could give 6 stars - I would. For reference: we got quotes from several other companies INCLUDING our pool contractors. Viking came in so much more competitively. Our rep was Karen and she came out with samples which was super helpful. We've had a terrible time with our pool guys. Just awful. We ended up getting quotes for pavers and fake grass separately bc we can't trust the pool company to even finish the dang pool... let alone other projects. I am so glad we did! I was used to poor service, slow service, no responses, and high pricing. Well, Karen changed my whole outlook on construction and services like this. She followed up, she wasn't pushy, she was knowledgeable, she was prompt, she really won our business. They're located in the east bay but she had done other projects in our same neighborhood and knew the local places we could go and see real examples of pavers we might like. We had one thing in mind and I was so sure of myself... but Karen had some other recommendations and I'm glad she did. I only wish we met her before we got our pool coping bc her eye was much better for design and wear than ours (and well-beyond our pool company). So here's where the service comes into play: our crappy pool guys knew we were getting pavers or some kind of decking. They knew they would need bonding on wire around the pool. They waited until our entire pool deck was installed to say something. Karen and Gustavo (foreman) came to our rescue. They scheduled to remove the border pieces for the pool guys to do the work they should've already done, and then came back to replace the work. Like it never happened! The pool deck is the nicest part of our yard makeover so far - and all our friends and family love it. We can't wait to have them back later for more projects -- I have already decided to use them for our driveway and side walkways. It's affordable and the finished product is incredible. We got three bids for putting pavers in place of our pebbled concrete sidewalk. Viking was the lowest in price, but we also felt comfortable with Karen Skinner, the project manager. We had some time constraints and Viking worked around those. Gustavo and his crew did a beautiful job, just as we wanted. They added a curved edge to part of the sidewalk, filled in the walkway to our front patio, and redid our front stairs with a beautiful bullnose step. In addition, they added 6" of width to the sidewalk. Karen was in contact with us throughout the project, responding if we had any questions. Crew members were polite and worked hard. I cannot recommend this company after the poor work they did on our retaining wall. The communication between project manager and the crew was ridiculously poor. The crew no-showed for three days causing my family to lose income by taking off work unexpectedly. They left us with a smaller gate entrance we needed a carpenter to build an entirely new gate. There is a huge gap in the wall when we were told they "would do their best." They also did not install any draining. Greg ignored my requests, Johnny didn't even show up or communicate with me beyond saying he had ordered materials on the day the project was supposed to start. read more

We were looking to upgrade the front of our house and replace our dead lawn and cracked driveway. We were looking for one contractor to install artificial grass and pavers for our driveway. I did a lot of research and found Viking Pavers with positive reviews. I called and spoke with Sophie (project designer), and she was available the next day for a consultation. Sophie took all the measurements and asked if we were okay with her, including some design ideas she had. Her design was much better than the basic ideas we had for how the front of the house would look. She listened to our suggestions and incorporated them into the final plan for turf and pavers. Sophie and Gustavo (construction supervisor) conducted a walkthrough of the project so all details were discussed and would be included in the final product. A group text message was set up so that everyone would be included in any questions or comments regarding the project. Communication was excellent regarding when and how the project would progress. There was minimal impact on us, other than parking on the side of our house so the materials could be delivered on kept on the street in front of our house until needed. We had frequent visits from Gustavo and Sophie throughout the project to make sure there were no issues. The project was estimated to take two weeks to complete but was done in one week. We wanted to replace our cracked driveway and walkway on the side of the house so we contacted Viking Pavers along with another Bay Area paver company. We received quotes and met with both reps to discuss our project. Patrick with Viking was knowledgeable, flexible and easy to work with. Viking Paver's quote came in below the other company which was a plus but that wasn't the determining factor. We just felt more comfortable because our project was very clearly explained to us. We hired Viking Pavers to replace all our hardscape and retaining walls (3.5" high, not large) on our property. With respect to their work on the pavers and walls, all was well done but I would not recommend you commission this company for anything beyond pavers and simple, short retaining walls. Our very expensive lighting system they installed (within concrete steps so can't be fixed w/o major renovation) has pretty much failed over the past few years. Most of the step lights no longer work in the backyard (2 out of 7), the in-lawn up lights haven't worked for years and remaining path lights only work in the front yard. There are better complete landscape contractors out there, but if you want just your driveway or a simple flat patio done with no drainage or lighting requirements then they are adequate. read more

We had extensive work done in our back yard, and I mean a big job. It involved removing 1000s of old red brick, many yards of dirt and some concrete. Also, all new drainage and several new drain grates where neither existed before to alleviate any rain puddling. Patrick, our lead was spot on with his estimate, had an excellent crew there each day on time and they worked all day. Each evening they cleaned up and put away all their tools. To watch them was like watching artists at work, especially when it came to the final laying of the pavers, many of which had to be custom cut on-site to fit the odd and curving shape of our yard. By the time they were done, 10-14 days later, the transformation was astonishing. We have had a couple of minor issues with some of the joints losing sand, but they were on the spot to take care of it. Honestly, Patrick and crew did an outstanding job, especially considering how large and intricate this job was and communication between us was always easy, direct and pleasant. This was our third time using Viking to place pavers around our pool and terrace above. We would not be back with Viking if we did not like their work. Some things worth mentioning: Sales: Greg came out and sized up the job and was quick to provide a detailed estimate. It is unusual to have a sales person also being a hands-on person during the project. Greg did the word work to adjust the wood deck to match the new pavers. He was always available and provided assistance as was appropriate. Supervision: Gustavo was here every day so that I could work with him to made adjustments and changes as we wished. He also did the sealing of the pavers himself. Crew: I am amazed at the skill of the workers. They are very adept at cutting the pavers in tight places and making things work well in a difficult area. This job required the crew to hand carry up the old concrete three sets of stairs for removal. I wasn't sure that they would be able to do the job because of the difficult location. Not only did the have to hand carry the old concrete up and away, also hand carry pallets of pavers down to the work area. It is lucky they are very strong because carrying one paver down is as much as I could handle. I should add that I like a crew that comes every day and does not try to work several jobs at once. This was the case for Viking. The job was estimated to take 7 to 10 days, and they finished in eight Warranty: Viking provides a long warranty on their work. On a job that they did for us ten year ago, some of the pavers had settled. I asked they that was covered by their warranty, and they said yes. During the next day after finishing the main project, they were here adding sand to make the area level again along with removing the old pavers and replacing them on the leveled area. Recommend? Of course I recommend them as I would not have hired them a third time if I did not like their operation. read more

The pavers are beautiful no issue with the patio. However it was difficult to communicate with the crew and our construction manager was stretched too thin. Had issues with our drip system and sprinklers being identified and capped off in the area that was paved. It was resolved but caused concern. read more

I submitted a request for a consultation on their website yesterday and got a text today from Sophie; I called since she had left her #. The conversation started out pleasant enough. I said I needed a pathway. Then she asked me if I thought I had at least 400 square foot of space that needed hardscaping and I said I wasn't sure but there was also some other work I needed on the other side of my house. Then I mentioned that I had seen their ad for "free demolition of existing surface" because I had an old concrete driveway that I also needed removed and she immediately got snippy and said, "We don't do any work for free. You would have to replace whatever we remove with something." No duh! Obviously I know no one works for free, but you just lost my business because of your nasty attitude. Long time coming but they did a horrible job with design. The 2D landscape design is worth 1star and should not be considered a design. Had to check work mostly because of measurement. If you have a flat yard, they should be ok but if you have slopes, stairs and retaining walls, look around. They kept installing 1-side with lopsided caps. Had to redo it all the white the designer kept calling trying to charge more. the installers knew it was wrong but tried to keep them from talking to me saying to them I wanted it like that (untrue). Finally all done. But not worth the price paid. btw, they came and took my extra pavers(they did not install). Left the stone for over a month for the walls they put in. one of the workers took my stone for another job. read more

We have just completed our 1500 square-foot asphalt driveway replacement with Viking Pavers. Wow, what a difference! From start to finish the job was done in an efficient and professional manner. Ron Harmer was our Design Consultant and showed up for the initial consult when promised and got us an estimate within the next day or so. The other two companies that we contacted weren't as diligent nor as competitive as Viking. We hired Viking Pavers to transform our large lawn area in the back into a usable patio area We worked with Sophie, their designer, on planning the shape of the patio and selection of pavers. We found Sophie very responsive and pleasant to work with and are very happy with her design ideas that matched the existing landscape and pool. The crew and the site manager John did an excellent job of demolition , ground preparation and laying of the pavers. This was done sometimes under tough conditions of rain, puddles and mud due to the heavy rains during the end of last December. They also came a few times after completing the job to make minor adjustments and corrections. The final result is very beautiful and will make our yard much more usable in the future.
