I had an artificial turf installation and tree root removal project with Guzman few weeks ago. Rene's crew did an excellent job removing the tree root underneath the cement and replacing it with a new slab that has a clean, well-finished look. For the turf portion, I communicated with him in advance about the specific brand I wanted, and understand clearly on what steps he will do on the project. The installation was carried out well with minimal supervision. Overall, they delivered a solid project at a fair price, and I had good communication with Rene throughout the entire process as well. I have recommended him to some of my friends who plans to have backyard projects. If you are looking for one, would recommend to reach out to him as well.

I can't say enough good things about Rene and his team at Guzman Landscaping. Our backyard was full of wild plants and weeds, plus three trees that needed to be removed. We also needed some large trash items hauled away. We got quotes from several companies, but Guzman Landscaping offered the best price by far. What really impressed me was how quick and courteous they were. The whole job took only two days, and since they had to pass through my in-laws' area to get to our backyard, they carefully laid down protective coverings to keep the carpet and furniture safe. Throughout the process, they kept the workspace clean, which made a big difference to us. If you're looking for reliable landscaping help, I'd definitely recommend Rene and Guzman Landscaping. They do great work at a great price and treat your home with respect. They'll be my go-to for any future yard projects!

Tree root found going into foundation

*** update Rene wanted me to remove this review as he says he did the job. I went under foundation, dug more myself, and found continuing root. So no he did not do the job. I will now need to hire someone else to continue the job or continue chipping away myself and I lost $550. Thanks Rene. :( Hired Rene to take care of a tree root that was found underneath my house foundation. Rene quoted me $750 to total to take care of the tree root from my house all the way to the tree directly so it wouldn't be growing. He told me he would do a deal $550 if I paid cash. This was digging to about 20 feet of tree root out to get to the tree. When the day came, the root actually ended up being short, as in the root is actually underneath the house and grew out from out of the house. Did that change the work? Rene ended up not going directly to the tree root, explained trees would have to be cut nearby, quoting me $3,000. However, for today's work still $550. ???? Like he didn't take care of problem, I still have a tree root under my house, he just cut the part I revealed. I could have done that with a chainsaw. I let him know I wouldn't be hiring for anything again.

Rene and his team transformed our busted, gross patio into a beautiful oasis. He is courteous, professional, and reasonable. In fact, he fixed my broken sprinklers even though that wasn't part of our deal. Before laying the sod, he also had to remove gravel the previous contractor left behind. The sod he selected is a rich emerald, very high quality, and we couldn't be happier. I plan to hire his team for all our future landscaping projects.

I'm so lucky I found these guys on Yelp! They were responsive, professional and did an awesome high quality job with my front yard and backyard. They listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered flawlessly. It had been raining a lot in SF so we had uncontrollable weeds and overgrown plants. Within a few short hours, everything was looking brand new. Highly recommend going with Guzman!!

Guzman landscaping responding quickly, gave a fair estimate and provided clear direction. They transformed our front yard and we absolutely love it! Thank you!

This was a technically challenging project involving a steep hill and very mature redwood roots. Standout qualities of this company are: 1. Ease of quoting process Before coming out in person, they were able to give us a ballpark price based on dimensions, fence type, and site images. This allowed me to decide whether to move forward and I thought this was really respectful of my time. Then, Dago, the owner, came for the site visit and to discuss details. 2. No bait and switch In ironing out the details, there was some miscommunication about whether staining was included. Dago was able to meet us halfway with the price increase. This honest business style continued throughout the project and no change orders or unexpected price increases happened. 3. Detail oriented Throughout the project, we discussed details such as fence posts placement relative to tree roots, post height, etc. Dago was both available in person and by email via his assistant Maria. It was also nice to have responses confirmed in writing so that things were clear and there would be no bait and switch. 4. Personality Dago is a really nice person and I enjoy speaking with his about his geriatric dogs, etc. This also helped me not feel anxious about the project, because I felt that I could trust him. For this fence, we received multiple quotes. Two companies were in the $9-10K range, another was around $12K, and an outlier was above $20K. Dago's price was the lowest quote (with minute differences in material) and we are very glad we went with him!

4 stars for quality work. 0 stars for ethical business…read morepractices I hired Melvin and George from La Económica Landscaping after receiving a written estimate from their coordinator, Cindy, for work that included: * Garden clean-up & hauling - $1,375 * Mulch + small brick installation (combined) - $650 Total: $2,025 And a recurring monthly maintenance fee at $200 The crew did a nice job with the clean-up. Their labor and craftsmanship were good. However, the way this business operates is extremely concerning. Even though the scope was clearly defined both verbally and in writing, the owner later tried to change the terms of the estimate, claiming parts of the agreed-upon work were "mistakenly included." Throughout the process, there were multiple "gotcha" moments, surprise clarifications, shifting explanations, and attempts to downplay what was originally promised. Despite the written estimate explicitly listing a "mulch + small brick installation (combined)", the brick installation was never completed. When I followed up, they claimed it had been a "mistake" in the estimate and refused to honor that part of the agreement. Communication became defensive, taunting, and unprofessional, and rather than resolve the situation collaboratively, the owner sent a $300 refund before we had even reached an agreement, then canceled my ongoing maintenance service altogether. It's disappointing, because the work quality itself was solid. But their business ethics and communication practices are sketchy. They seem more focused on short-term profit than building long-term relationships or standing by their written commitments. They told me the brick feature would enhance the look of my garden. I guess I'll never find out. If you decide to hire them, make sure every detail is documented and signed. Otherwise, expect last-minute changes and confusion about what you actually paid for.

My backyard patio was already landscaped, but it had a small koi fish pond that I was trying to get rid of. I didn't want the fish, it was creating mold/attracting mosquitos to the water, and the pumps took up a lot of space. So I wanted to remove it completely while still maintaining the overall landscaping to look continuous without the pond. Additionally, I wanted my fence to be reinforced and repainted. What sounds and looks like a relatively simple task was actually quite hard. They had to demo the concrete while saving the pieces so they could re-use it later. The floor tiles had to be matched as close as possible. Ultimately, his team worked really hard over 3 days and did a great job. It was one of our largest house projects to date with many additional findings (a crumbling foundation wall, trash dumped under our deck, rotting fence posts, etc) that were replaced during project construction. The additional charges amounted to a little over 10% of our estimated budget, which was extremely reasonable given the scale and scope of the project. Lastly, communication was thoughtful and responsive with 1-2 day response times and onsite visits, even though Cristian started the project with a one-month old. Cristian and his dad were professional which can't be overstated enough; personally, I found them both to be some of the best contractors I've worked with, where there wasn't tedious over-explanation of technical details or brusqueness/condescension as can happen in the construction industry.
