I had an artificial turf installation and tree root removal project with Guzman few weeks ago. Rene's crew did an excellent job removing the tree root underneath the cement and replacing it with a new slab that has a clean, well-finished look. I will now need to hire someone else to continue the job or continue chipping away myself and I lost $550. Thanks Rene. :( Hired Rene to take care of a tree root that was found underneath my house foundation. Rene quoted me $750 to total to take care of the tree root from my house all the way to the tree directly so it wouldn't be growing. He told me he would do a deal $550 if I paid cash. This was digging to about 20 feet of tree root out to get to the tree. When the day came, the root actually ended up being short, as in the root is actually underneath the house and grew out from out of the house. Did that change the work? Rene ended up not going directly to the tree root, explained trees would have to be cut nearby, quoting me $3,000. However, for today's work still $550. ???? Like he didn't take care of problem, I still have a tree root under my house, he just cut the part I revealed. I could have done that with a chainsaw. The first thing I want to say is that there was a miscommunication with the price that had me pay $1,000 more than I thought I had to pay. However, I do NOT think it would be fair to factor that into the review score. So, the score is based solely on the quality of the service and the value of the service. The quality of the service was very good. I have no complaints about it. They arrived when they were supposed to, did the job in a timely manner, and did an excellent job of clean-up. I would give the tree pruning/cutting service 5 out of 5 stars. The value was not very good, however. I paid $1,650 for a service that I had quotes from four other companies, who all had 4.5+ star review scores on Yelp, for $700, $700, $750, and $850. So, I would give the value 1 out of 5 stars. For those wondering why I went with the service that was $950 or more than 2X my lowest quotes, that's where the miscommunication came in. I thought I heard him say $650 and thought the number he wrote on the post-it note was "650". Upon completion of the service, he said it was one thousand six-hundred fifty. And upon closer inspection of the post-it, there is a clear "650" in the center of the note, but about an inch to the left of the "650" and maybe a quarter of an inch above that number, there was a "l" slash that was probably the number one. It was just nowhere near the "650". Ultimately, I think this falls on me. I should have confirmed the quote via the Yelp messaging system so it'll be clear as night and day and have a digital footprint. It just sucks because I didn't have that much money and had to borrow from a friend to make sure I had enough to cover the check in my bank account (been a rough past 5 years...). While I won't be using Guzman Landscaping again because even though I fault myself for the miscommunication, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. That said, I don't think it should stop you from giving them a shot because the quality of work was good. It'll just come down to whether or not their quote is something you feel comfortable with and are happy with. read more

The job was completed on time, however the quality of material (rocks and stones) is bad. It's been 1.5 months since the job was completed, the lava rocks have lost color and look dull. We realized after a few days of rain that the lava rocks they gave is actually a mix of a few lava rocks and more cheaper ugly gray rocks. I needed to address an overgrown tree in timely manner and reached out to a number of arborists and landscaping companies. Rene was among the fastest to respond and proactively arranged to assess the situation in person at a time that suited me. I planted this tree, a California native, about 15 years ago as a sapling, so I appreciated the effort taken to see if the tree was salvageable. It turns out it had lived double the expected lifespan and was not going to make it through the extensive pruning required. During the actual work, Rene and his team were careful not to damage the other plants in the landscape. They worked efficiently and left the area cleaner than when they found it. I hired Rene Guzman landscaping last year to excavate our backyard and lay 6 inches of baserock for the foundation for our concrete and paver projects. However, it turns out that they didn't excavate enough dirt for this project, nor did they add the 6 inches of baserock. They excavated maybe 4-5 inches of dirt at most, and laid 3 inches of baserock, and in some areas only 2 inches of baserock. I will have to redo a lot of the work that he claimed he did, but didn't do. read more
