D Garcia Landscaping completed a large fence project for us and we are extremely happy with the results! This was a technically challenging project involving a steep hill and very mature redwood roots. Standout qualities of this company are: 1. Ease of quoting process Before coming out in person, they were able to give us a ballpark price based on dimensions, fence type, and site images. This allowed me to decide whether to move forward and I thought this was really respectful of my time. Then, Dago, the owner, came for the site visit and to discuss details. 2. No bait and switch In ironing out the details, there was some miscommunication about whether staining was included. Dago was able to meet us halfway with the price increase. This honest business style continued throughout the project and no change orders or unexpected price increases happened. 3. Detail oriented Throughout the project, we discussed details such as fence posts placement relative to tree roots, post height, etc. Dago was both available in person and by email via his assistant Maria. It was also nice to have responses confirmed in writing so that things were clear and there would be no bait and switch. 4. Personality Dago is a really nice person and I enjoy speaking with his about his geriatric dogs, etc. This also helped me not feel anxious about the project, because I felt that I could trust him. For this fence, we received multiple quotes. Two companies were in the $9-10K range, another was around $12K, and an outlier was above $20K. Dago's price was the lowest quote (with minute differences in material) and we are very glad we went with him! read more

Dago and his crew did an outstanding job. It was a big project that included a full hardscape demo, an elevation change, installing a new wall and pavers (around several curves that required meticulous stone cutting to make the pieces fit seamlessly), and replacing underground piping. Not only did his pricing beat the competition, but he also completed the job in two weeks, and I couldn't be happier about it. I am thrilled to give this well-deserved review because if you're reading this, you will certainly be in the great hands of talented and seasoned professionals. Dago, Maria, and the crew were very easy to work with. Prices were reasonable and communication was very straight forward. They added over 600 sqare feet of pavers in addition to some mulch work. I would recommend them to people looking to updated their backyard. read more

We collected four estimates for landscaping work that we needed along one side of our house and in our back garden. This included rebuilding a gravel pathway with an underground French drain to direct water flow to the bottom of the path. We also built a tiered series of six planter boxes next to the path, several short staircases, and a 12' x 5' redwood planter box with a deer fence for planting vegetables. Maria, who manages the administrative work, responded quickly to our request for an estimate and set up an appointment for a few days later with Dago. Dago is a thoughtful planner who spent time with us going through each aspect of our project and making helpful suggestions for improving the job. His final quote was not the least expensive, but we were impressed by his attention to detail and by the clear and rapid communication with Maria. They started work one and a half months later and completed the job quickly, with a team of five workers. Each step was professionally done. We were especially impressed by Roberto, who was the foreman for the job. No matter what we asked him to consider or change, he was positive and responsive and worked to be sure we were happy with the final result. Overall we are really happy with the work they did. You should go with D. Garcia's Landscaping for your next job. You won't be disappointed. read more

I immediately got a good vibe from Dago when he came to give an estimate for our project. Working with Maria to get everything scheduled was also a very pleasant experience. The crew did a great job and we are very happy with how our installation went. I highly recommend and would definitely work with Dago again if I have another project. read more

Dago and his team are amazing! They have been maintaining our yards in El Sobrante for a few years and always to a wonderful job. They are friendly, and always go above and beyond. Recently, we had them to a full conversion/remodel of our backyard from awful weeds to nice natural grass, with an irrigation system, mulch, and tasteful plants. I was amazed with both how well it came out, and how affordable the project was! I would HIGHLY recommend using Dago Garcia's team for either regular yard maintenance, or any yard project you have in mind. Dago has decades of experience and knows exactly what he is doing- he is super friendly and helped us with great ideas. Give Dago a call! read more

I can't say enough good things about Dago and his team. He's one of those rare professionals who combines skill, integrity, and genuine care for his work. From day one, he's been honest, transparent about pricing, and incredibly hardworking. Dago shows up when he says he will, does exactly what he promises (and often more), and takes real pride in the details -- whether it's planting, clean-up, irrigation, or design. He communicates clearly, explains what needs to be done and why, and never cuts corners. It's obvious he treats every project as if it were his own home. In a world where reliability can be hard to find, Dago stands out. If you're looking for someone trustworthy, consistent, and talented, you couldn't find a better landscaper. We worked with D Garcia's Landscaping on two separate projects and had a fantastic experience both times. First, Dago and his team helped us with a patio renovation--removing an old pergola and pavers and replacing them with a beautiful new pre-fab pergola and new pavers. The quality of work, attention to detail, and smooth communication impressed us so much that we hired them again to replace all sections of our fence and gate. Both projects were completed on time, with great care and professionalism, and at a very competitive price. Dago was prompt, responsive, and easy to work with throughout. We're so happy with how everything turned out and would highly recommend D Garcia's Landscaping to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality outdoor work. read more

We had a great experience with D Garcia's Landscaping. Dago and his crew removed 25 years+ old wooden retaining wall, grass, the old concrete, tree and the old fence (see the pictures) and replaced it with beautiful Basalite block-based retaining wall, Catalina Grana Toscana pavers and new fence. The project was done ahead of planned 6 weeks time frame: it took 25 days total - 4 6-day weeks and 1 day. The quality of work, attention to detail, everything was done with great care and professionalism. And at a very competitive price! We are very happy with the work Dago and his crew did and how everything turned out. Highly recommend! read more

The marker of any review IMO is would you hire this contractor again after the project? Wholeheartedly yes. We had them do a full landscape job on our small lot - build a deck, a patio enclosure in the front, extend the sides of the driveway with new concrete, demolish a concrete pad, plant and irrigate in the front, install a French drain along the perimeter to solve our flooding issues, install pavers and river rock on the sides of the house, and build good neighbor fences on two sides of the property. I'm so happy with how the work turned out, especially for the price. The only nit I have with working with them is you have to keep a close eye on the project and make sure you give feedback immediately if it's not to the specs you wanted/discussed. That doesn't bother me much as I've found it's necessary with most contractors unless you just don't care about the details. A few small details were missed in the end - like a few screws not installed, the cuts in the deck for the railing aren't perfect, the stairs down from the deck should have been 6 inch wider given where the grass ends - little small details like that. But honestly nothing that detracts from how beautiful the yard looks now and how happy we are with the work. Also, nice people which helps during a big project! And they follow through - when we saw an issue with the fencing a few weeks after the project wrapped they came out and fixed it. read more

I would highly recommend D Garcia's landscaping! We had a huge project on a full landscape of our entire front yard. D Garcia was referred from our neighbors and the work was top notch. I appreciated their full professionalism and post-install follow up. Thank you D Garcia for my lovely garden! read more

I hired Garcia's Landscaping to build a retaining wall where an old retaining wall was failing. Garcia's understood what we were trying to do and provided a competitive quote. Their workers were very hardworking and courteous. They did a fantastic job and built a very solid wall and attended to every detail. When they were done, the entire area was cleaned up with a solid new retaining wall and looked better than we've ever seen that area. We were very pleased to have hired Garcia's Landscaping and would absolutely work with them again. Highly recommended! read more

Dago and the employees who worked with us for the past 5 weeks get our 5 Star rating for quality workmanship, professionalism, clear communication, ease to do business with and an outstanding end result! Whenever we had a question Dago would make himself available in person to discuss possible resolutions. He even helped us remedy an area in the front of the house (not part of the project he was hired for) where water was pooling, the result of a previous contractor's error. Our scope of work included artificial turf, pavers, drainage system and a vertical fence installation in the back of the house. We interviewed 5 other contractor's and felt Dago was the most knowledgeable, reasonably priced and ... charming! His estimate was comprehensive, clearly stated and each time we changed anything, the change order and corresponding invoice was generated efficiently. We highly recommend D. Can I just say how grateful we are that Dago and his crew continue to tolerate us through multiple projects? We started with big trash collecting juniper shrubs that had an oddly strong odor. His crew quickly removed them. Unfortunately my husband and I are the opposite of a green thumb and couldn't decide on a solution with curb appeal that met our requirements for very, VERY low maintenance. After a year of indecision, we finally moved forward and could not be more thrilled! They completely changed the look of our home. read more

We bought a fixer house with a backyard straight out of a horror movie. The former owners just poured concrete everywhere and I don't know who they hired to do the tiered garden out back, but literally every one the concrete steps of the tiered garden was a different size. When I did research on Yelp for a landscaping contractor I was looking for someone who didn't just throw a little mulch and some pavers here and there, but that clearly had a team that could take on big, complex projects. It was clear from the reviews that Dago was that guy. His quote was not the most expensive but also not the cheapest. That was OK with me because I had the example in my back yard of what happens when you pick the cheapest... and it was not pretty. Dago and his team blew past my expectations in terms of creativity, attention to detail, and what a delight it was to work with him and his crew. I would heartily recommend Dago to anyone who is looking for excellent quality and value, and I'm already thinking about what other projects I'm planning to do with his team. read more

I just spent a few minutes looking through all of my reviews and all of Dago's so I could find my last review and update it - and was shocked to discover that despite over a decade of superior service that Dago and his team have given us, I never reviewed him on Yelp. This review is LONG overdue. As I said, Dago has been our gardening contractor for many, many years. His team has always provided excellent, timely, professional service. His gardeners have kept our gardens and lawns looking beautiful year round. They've always been accommodating for any special requests, and have also been proactive about letting me know when they discover any issues outside of the gardening realm that might need my urgent attention. Most recently, the senior gardener on his team notified us of a drainage issue that could have damaged our foundation, had it not been brought to our attention. Dago himself found a drainage and construction professional who was able to repair the damaged underground drainpipe at an extremely competitive cost. At the same time, Dago pointed out the clogged downspouts that had likely caused the flooding which had been a major cause of the drainage issue. Over the years, Dago and his team have also helped us with fence and gate repair and other household repair issues over the years. In the rare instances where he and his team could not do the work, he was always happy to send someone who could. I recommend Dago and his team full-heartedly and without hesitation. read more

I could not recommend Dago and his crew enough 10 out of 5 stars! He took the time to understand our needs and executed the work better than we could have imagined. We installed a good custom neighboring fence from our neighbors and a fabulous custom gated fence to our side yard. The fences also included very intricate trellis details. Amazing job! Also did a pathway with flagstones leading to our backdoor as well as a multi tiered garden wall. So good!!! This work was flawlessly executed by a hardworking, nice and talented team. These guys work QUICK but attention to detail is like no other. We will be working with them in the future for our external home needs. Thank you Dago, Gabriel and team for being fantastic partners. Dago's crew has done so much over the years to make our yard gorgeous! They've installed our lighting, plants, mulch and stone and patio pavers (& the concrete and rebar below it) and build wood stairs into the landscape too. They've trimmed back our aloe and you can't even tell it's been so reduced (unless you saw it before). They've installed 3 huge outdoor pieces of art too. Perfection! They are helpful, clean and fast. They show up when they say they will...takes a while to get on the schedule, so plan ahead. Back in July, Dago and his fantastic crew replaced an extremely degraded pathway that was in a tricky spot (on very steep slope, lots of erosion, irrigation pipes running just under the pathway, etc). They worked quickly and cleanly and the result is beautiful and so much safer for anyone walking up to the house. I waited until the first big rains to see how well the new pathway would stand up to the water erosion problems that destroyed the last one, and I'm happy to report that it's holding up like a champ! The D. Garcia office team was responsive and very professional. Dago really listened to what we wanted and provided samples of the stones that he could use for the walkway so we could decide what would work best for our yard. Highly recommended! read more

I hired this the company about two months ago to do bi-monthly services on a couple of my East Bay properties. Initially, Dogaberto, was very communicative and diligent, but soon became just the opposite--not responding timely, no set times for my monthly services (it was always sporadic scheduling), and not adhering to our agreement of bi-monthly...during the last month before I discontinued their services (Sept. 2018), they only came once to each property. Since we agreed to bi-monthly service, I didn't know what the charges were for single services and it literally took Dogaberto two weeks to respond to my texts inquiring about the final charges for the month of September. Dago and his men were great at doing two jobs in my garden. They replaced an "urbanite" retaining wall with moss rocks and replaced a pathway that I was constantly tripping over with pavers that were well seated. Excellent job with our backyard landscaping by Dago and his crew! We had landscaping plans drawn up last year, but there are always changes that happen once you try to turn it into reality. Dago took the extra time to meet with me more than once before we even signed the contract - to make sure he was quoting what I wanted. He also made suggestions along the way (e.g., curving our patio wall so it was continuous with the pathway in the backyard) that only enhanced the design. The project was even completed on time and within my budget! Dago was great about getting approval before doing any work that wasn't on the original plan. The team was very professional and kept noise and dirt to a minimum. We had a tough design - we wanted an Arizona flagstone patio on the side of our house with a wooden landing/deck connecting it to our house (complicated by multiple stairs / levels due to the original backyard hardscaping). They did a fabulous job of making it work so that the entire space is usable and flows well together! I would highly recommend Dago and his team! I've already recommended them to another friend. read more

Our backyard space needed a lot of work so we reached out to a number of landscaping companies that we found on Yelp. After interviewing a few companies, it was clear that D Garcia's Landscaping was the perfect fit for our project. We needed to replace some failing retaining walls and wanted more space for recreation and gardening. Dagoberto, Gabriel and the crew delivered a product beyond all of our expectations! They were thoughtful and creative in executing the plan and kept us in the loop on any project tweaks that came up. They built us a new deck, installed two paver patios, installed one patio of decomposed granite, installed/ upgraded the drainage system and installed retaining walls and steps. I can't recommend them enough! Some supply chain issues slowed down the project, as well as some rainy days...but the whole time Dagoberto and his staff were always professional and honest. I appreciated the depth of knowledge that the company brought to the table as well as the high level of customer service (willingness to listen, being open to changes, timeliness of workers and honoring the contract). Thank you for the newly transformed space! We will enjoy it for years to come! read more

Dago and his crew did a wonderful job overhauling my small front yard! i work with contractors all day long, professionally and for personal reasons. even so, its not an easy thing to hire a contractor to do work for you. unless money is no option and you hire a designer, that hires their tier one contractors that works with your project manager.... you are left with some hard choices and hand holding. If you can afford to pay $100,000 for a $35,000 job, im happy for you. im not one of those people. on the opposite end, you have contractors that are shady, dont communicate on a timely process, or worse, they just run off with your money. the wife found D. Garcia's Landscape, super lucky she did. between the handful of contractors we picked out for this project, we felt Dago, the owner, was the most reasonable, most knowledgeable, and basically, the person we felt the most comfortable with. d. garcia seem to be that right balance between reasonably priced and great work. makes sense, dago has been in the industry for decades and this is HIS business. as a small business owner myself, i can say that the ones that have a business open for more than a decade, we are a special breed. it takes a lot to run a business, but even more so for this long. we had a particularly tricky retaining wall and drainage situation... no problem. we had some interesting aspects to our rare level yards in the hills, no problem, redo deck, no problem.... professional, good work, great crew, reasonably priced? easy choice. read more

I highly recommend Mr Garcia and his crew! He has a professional, competent, practical, hands-on and experienced vibe. I felt reassured that he was going to deliver the work, that it would be done properly, look nice, and be reasonably priced. He's a good listener, pays attention to details. His crew were great for the most part and we esp liked that he had a consistent lead worker on our site every day, who we got to know and trust. We will definitely hire them again, and have already recommended them to neighbors. more details: I emailed several local landscaping companies (which i got as recommendations from Berkeley Parents Network and Yelp) looking for an estimate and install for a (non glamorous type) job in our side and back yard. the soil in our yard had gotten very high relative to the house foundation and we needed someone to come in, dig down the soil, remove it, install gravel, and integrate it with some veggie beds and other garden areas that we were not having touched. Mr Garcia replied immediately to my email, arranged a time to do an in person visit w/ masks and distance to assess the job, and got back to me with a written estimate about a week later. i heard back from a few others, who said they were not interested in our job. we felt his bid was reasonable and very clear, he's bonded, licensed and insured, and the specifics were there, with measurements, how he handled contingencies, etc. we let him know wed be open to having the work done as soon as possible, but we were in line for 6 weeks out. He had an unexpected slot open up and the crew started the next week! They were hardworking, considerate and polite, cleaning up at the end of each day and they just got so much work done we were blown away. we realized there was no way we could have done the work on our own (we'd considered) and were very lucky that we'd hired them. Extra nice touches they installed were a beautiful little rock wall bed along our side yard, a pretty little pad of pavers for our bbq, very study wood beams to make a "step-up" to the veggie beds and the way they were able to grade the whole yard to unify it. Mr Garcia takes genuine pride in the work. He dropped in most days to check in, and was responsive over email. Highly recommend! read more

Initially, our front and back yards were in poor shape.  The front yard was covered in sand and weed-infested.  The backyard was mainly unleveled dirt mounds with trash buried underneath.  After removing the trash and excavating the ground ourselves, we turned to Dago and his crew to redo our front and back yard, to something that was relatively maintenance free (artificial turf in back and a hardscape with a few drought resistant plants in front).  We came up with the design on our own and gathered several different estimates.  While Dago's rates were not the cheapest, he was the most thorough and professional; other landscapers/contractors either took weeks to respond or stopped responding altogether.  From start to finish, everything took a little over 2 weeks.  The crew consisted mainly of 2 workers, sometimes more.  Throughout it all, Dago remained in constant contact with us, including frequent drop-ins.  Also, any questions regarding details were quickly addressed via email or in person.  Everything came out perfect and we couldn't be happier with the finished product. read more
