I've used Silk Way before and think this will be my last time. They do a decent job but this time they spent about 100 minutes (timed it) just disassembling and reassembling a bed. I was told the two guys wouldn't be able to lift the bed frame unless it was totally disassembled, which seemed like a stretch since two guys lifted the full bed with headboard. Seemed like a ploy to charge for more time. What should have been a two hour move by a competent moving company became four hours. They also charged me a 5% credit card fee and $42 for tape (no boxes, tape was the only thing they "supplied" and only to secure their own blankets.) TLDR: way too expensive and they will up charge you. Use a different company. read more

Overall I'm extremely disappointed with my experience with Silk Way Movers. I was moving out of a 1400 square foot home with several pieces of large furniture (table, bar, desk, end tables, couch, bed, chairs, shed, etc.). I took an inventory of many of the big items we needed moved, and I'll admit I did not have a full inventory of the small items and a couple of the larger items. Based on the size of the home and the pictures I provided, they should have had a good indication of the size of the job. They provided a 3 man crew that arrived at 10:30 am. One person spoke English, the other two folks spoke only Spanish. As you can probably imagine, having an English-speaking supervisor giving instructions to folks that do not speak English is a problem in and of itself. When they arrived at my house, it was like they were problem solving for the first time, assessing the logistics of moving all my items. I expected some strategy as to what they were moving and why, but I didn't see much of that. Instead I saw a supervisor struggling to communicate to the two other employees. I saw an excessive amount of wrapping and taping to eat the clock. I saw three employees that lacked the skill of using a hand drill (of which I provided). I disassembled and reassembled all my furniture, because I could see they struggled with basic aspects of moving. It took four hours for them to move 15-20 items of furniture and about 15-20 boxes into the truck. They informed me they would need to take two trips. While they were completing their first trip, I stopped by the house I was moving from to pick a few things up. When I came back, I saw a fourth member helping move things into my house. As I got to my new house I asked the group who the fourth member of the team was. The supervisor said - "I don't know him." Rewind five minutes before, this stranger was helping him move things through a doorframe and no one from the team thought to say anything. I repeat -- A STRANGER on the street started helping this team move and no one told this person that they are not allowed to touch my belongings, enter my new house, etc. When I told this vagrant street dweller to get off my property, he demanded payment from the moving company. Eventually the police got involved as this person tried to steal things off of the moving truck. What company lets random strangers support moving items into a persons house?! Clearly one that hasn't hired the right skilled workers. Even as bad as that event was - my wife and I were fuming at everything else gone wrong in this moving experience. The whole day was a mess and likely took twice as long as any other moving company I have used. I was doing much more physical labor and assembly and disassembly than I have ever done with a company. By the end of the experience, I was just glad they were out of the house. My bed was still folded up with straps around it. My cabinet drawers were strewn across the floor. Things were moved, but not well at all. My wife and I tried to instruct the movers where to put things - but it's difficult when your movers don't speak English and there's not a translator on staff. As a result one couch wasn't even put in the right room or the right floor. We had to rearrange most of the items against a wall because they were just placed in the middle of the house. After escalating all of this to the manager of Slick Way Movers, I received a faint apology and a whopping discount of $110 or $120 from a $1200 bill! The total for the move was around $1200 as they didn't finish until 5:30 pm - far from the initial 2 hour quote of $4-500. We realized this service was hourly - but we also had the expectation that we did not need to spend those hours training their staff and that they would use their time efficiently. I have moved about 3 times with movers. This was by far the worst experience. The company lacked: Accountability, Professionalism, Strategy, and Customer Support. read more

Mike and Bob arrived exactly on time, worked efficiently and diligently, were incredibly helpful and kind, and followed all COVID safety precautions for my move. I was initially a bit worried by some of the 1-star reviews here for Silk Way, but these do not reflect my experience at all. I would definitely hire Silk Way again. Flawless execution and very competitive prices. A few notes: -5% surcharge on credit card transactions, so plan for that or get cash. I didn't feel comfortable carrying that much cash so I opted to pay the fee. -We went back and forth over email a few times to nail down the specifics of the move and finalize a quote. Three stories up and down in both homes?!?! FALSE!!! Home #1 you enter on and exit from the middle floor! She gave the crew tips?!?! HAHAHAHAHA Please! My 5'1" pregnant wife was strong armed into tipping. First she declined to do a video testimony, then she declined to do a written online review, and then felt coerced when she was asked "anything extra for good job my crew did" *AND FOR THE RECORD* My mother-in-law tipped the crew because my wife was feeling really uncomfortable and wanted Silkway gone. Oh yeah ... good job just dumping clothes out of three drawers on to a bed that still needed to be moved. Would've been nice to know that clothes drawers needed to be emptied. Would've been so much better had they just left the drawers behind with the clothes in them. Instead we had to unload bins and then reload them with the clothes that Silkway dumped. The police was called! And they found my longboard! UNDER my old neighbors car! The car that the Silkway's truck was parked next to! I tend to believe the logic behind the suggestion of the police ... that one of the four Silkway crew members on-site had a conscience, told the would-be-thief "don't do it", and ditched my longboard. Last I checked 9:30, minus 1/2 hour for supposed lunch, is 10-3 and equates to five hours. Not six! Despite the fact they they were actually gone for over an hour at lunch. But we paid for six hours and got less than five hours of labor AND work benches were still left in garage. In closing ... why do you think we hired Silkway? Our movers were great. We had a team of 4 movers led by Mike and they did an excellent job. We had a lot of stuff to move and they estimated it would take 7 hours. It ended up taking 8, but not due to workers being slow. In fact, the entire team was working very hard the entire time. Two of the men didn't even stop for a lunch break. I recently moved, and I had the pleasure of working with Hakim and Jordan. They were extremely professional, and considerate of everything. I had to move boxes and furniture from 2 separate locations. I had about 1 bedroom apartment worth of stuff total and we finished easily within the 3 hours. We moved from Arlington, VA to Vienna, VA recently. Our friends moved just a few weeks before us with Silk Way Movers company and had positive feedback on them. So we decided to give them a try too. The entire experience was smooth, quick, and convenient. I requested a quote on their website a few days before the moving date. Mike responded the same day with detailed information about the service and the price. Mike and his fellow worker were punctual, arrived all prepared - with blankets, dollies, tapes, and a contract ready to sign. We had most of our belongings pre-packed in boxes. The moving team took care of the furniture, carefully disassembled it and wrapped in blankets. We don't have an elevator at our new place, and these guys carefully carried all the boxes and the furniture up to the 2nd and 3rd floors. These guys are really hard workers, they are constantly on the move, have great attitudes, and are well organized. The guys were not professional and very slow, cheated on the rate, I had 3 different hourly rate quoted? they charged me for tape for wrapping my furniture and didn't tell me it was optional, had glasses broke because a boxed label "fragile and glasses" means nothing to them and belong on the bottom with other boxes on top. Took them 6 hours to move from Grenoble/collage park to Alexandria. While our previous move, same location with same inventory took 4 hours. These moves that came out purposely prolonged my move. I caught them on numerous occasion idling. Never again will I hire this company. The reviews on here were great but these two guys, not sure what who/what they were. I absolutely hate moving and dreaded having to find the right moving company for my needs. I ended up chose Silk Way Movers and I'm so happy I did. My move was from a one bedroom apartment to a 3-story townhome. 1. The owner, Mike, responded to my request and any follow up questions very promptly. 2. The prices were very reasonable. I was quoted between 2-4 hours and it ended at 4 hours on the nose...the movers were working non-stop. 3. I had a very delicate bookshelf made of glass that I was nervous about. While other moving companies told me it was impossible to move without damage and would need to be taken apart (that wasn't an option for me due to the complexity of putting it back together) Mike was confident about their abilities and explained it could be done...and it was. It was very well packaged and protected. Not one scratch, dent, or chip. It was in perfect condition. 4. A couple of days before my appointment, I reached out to Mike to see about rescheduling to an earlier date. Again, Mike responded promptly and was very accommodating. 5. On the day of the move, Jordan and Hakeem (aka the dream team), showed up on time and got right to work. I actually expected that at some point I would have to motivate them to keep moving, but instead they were working so hard and fast that I almost wanted to tell them to sit down and take a break. 5. The quality of their work was also impressive. I honestly never had any moving company take such good care of my property. All of my furniture was well covered and loaded/unloaded with care. My only feedback would be to provide the price list of all possible fees for materials upfront and allow your customers to choose what they would like. I was made aware of the extra cost associated with the special packaging of the glass bookcase at the time of booking. However, I did not know that I would be charged per roll of tape, and other materials used for the standard items. The charge was reasonable, but it's just something that's good to know upfront so that they'll be no surprises, and it'll give your clients the choice of using their own materials instead. Overall my experience with Silk Way Movers was extremely pleasant and made this particular move a stress-free one. I'm so impressed with this moving company! Mike responded to me very quickly online with a quote, let me know they'd be able to move two apartments from two different locations into a new apartment at no additional charge (everything determined by an hourly basis) and was very clear about all fees associated with the move. Moving sucks, this move wasn't any different, but would have sucked more without Silk Way Movers. Mike and his two movers helped move my one bedroom apartment a few neighborhoods away. They were careful (maybe too careful, read slow) with all of our belongings and furniture.
