I was especially impressed on the most recent project that included mounting of a digital photo frame. Carlos simply "wasn't having it" to mount the frame with the electrical cord showing! He expertly drilled holes and snaked the cord through the inside of the wall and back out just above the electrical outlet for an amazingly clean look. He had the finishing caps to cover the entry and exit holes too. Carlos and the crew also took a very personal interest in mounting my career memorabilia (22 plaques and awards!) beautifully in my home office. And they are undaunted by "oddball" stuff like mounting clips for a tapestry in my media room to cover unsightly electrical panels. Their excellence starts with the manager Marc who gathers a LOT of information from you (pictures, model numbers, installation videos, etc.) so that the crew arrives fully prepared. He explained everything along the way, to include the parts that were missing (luckily it was only a few screws that he had in his tool box), how to work the bed, and which mattress would be the best for that bed (based on the instructions given). My wife and I moved from a 1 bedroom apartment (~930sq ft) to a 1 bedroom condo (~1000sq ft). The distance between the locations was about 30 mins at most (DC to Alexandria). The movers arrived right on time, were very professional, and were very careful with our things. Now the bad: they were exceptionally slow. I have moved twice before with the exact same amount of total items/furniture using different movers and it took them about 1.5hrs total for the entire move. I hired Local Motion for 2 hours and it ended up taking them 8 hours. While there was a small delay of 30 minutes due to no fault of their own, their sluggishness was unacceptable. They took every single item one at a time. They had 2 movers with 2 big wooden furniture 4 wheeled moving dollies, but they only ever used one. I don't know why they couldn't go twice as fast taking 2 boxes at a time. Then to top it all off, we all left my old apartment at 1:28pm, they said they would take a lunch and meet us back at my new place in an hour. No problem. They showed up an hour later and took another ~2.5 hours to unload everything. When it came time to pay they said "oh we actually didn't take a lunch" unfortunately I wasn't there when we paid them, but they absolutely took an hour lunch and took advantage of my wife when she paid. I would not recommend using them as they are exceptionally slow, and will do everything they can to make sure your reasonable quote is not what you pay

I had started the job myself but got an anchor screw stuck and figured I should have a pro step in so I didn't wreck my new walls. All the supplies were here, placed where they needed to be, holes were measured and marked for custom made rods and drapes. He charges by the hour and moves very, very slow. He didn't have his own step ladder or anchor screws. In the first hour, he managed to put in 3 screws in holes that had already been marked. He claimed he "needed to remeasure" and that's why it took so long, but he used the holes that I had already marked. He also said it was too hard to do with custom cut rods. He also said it wasn't his fault because I had an anchor screw stuck in the wall already, which was the whole reason I hired him. This is what pros do: they come prepared, know the required materials and techniques, and advise the customer on the best way to proceed. I knew we needed to cut it off when he asked me how to use an anchor screw. He didn't know if you needed to pre-drill or not for a very basic and common anchor. I cannot imagine a professional handyman not knowing that. He used a level to stare at the pre-marked holes for what seemed like an eternity, just eating up time. 3 screws = $200. Seems like a nice enough man, but handyman may not be the profession for him, and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just trying to take advantage of someone he assumed was too naive too know how long the job should take. He became very defensive, making excuses when I said we'd need to end the job at one hour. Im sure judging by other less than 5 star reviews here (that I really wish I'd have taken the time to read) he will post a very defensive response here as well. Please just don't take a job you don't have the required expertise to complete, and I don't want to hear defensive excuses when I'm still out $200 for almost no work completed.

The plan for my move changed multiple times, often with little notice. He split the move across two days, which forced me to take additional time off work. The afternoon before the move, he changed the timing again, requiring me to reschedule meetings with contractors, make alternate arrangements for my dog, and adjust loading dock reservations at both locations. He did not care how these changes impacted me, only that they made his job more efficient. I also paid extra for packing services, and the kitchen was packed so haphazardly that several boxes were falling apart from being overfilled. He didn't pack the area under the sink at all. On top of that, he left behind a number of items that were clearly part of the move--including my trash can, step stool, and a container holding several blankets--without any notice or explanation. I ended up making two additional trips to retrieve items I had explicitly hired him to move. He presents himself as an expert, but his arrogance makes him difficult to work with. If you just want your stuff moved and don't care how it happens, he'll probably get the job done. But if you need to plan around a busy schedule, value communication, or expect basic attention to detail and follow-through, I'd look elsewhere.

He showed up the next day and tried to increase the quote because nothing was staged for them to pick up. Never a part of the quote or discussed when the quote was handled. I addressed it with him and he proceeded to argue with me about it. I sent him and his helpers on their way. I've used other haulers that show up when they're supposed to and don't bicker about things not being staged and try to charge you more. I was looking forward to getting junk removed today and it didn't happen because of unprofessionalism from the owner himself. We'll get it removed elsewhere. I'm reading bad reviews here and seeing his responses and they're funny because he's calling out his own customers to make it out to be their fault instead of learning from his mistakes. He was cool when he came to give the quote and was someone else when he showed up to get the job done - which never got done. And he was happy to walk away when I told him forget it I'll call someone else. Never tried to make it better. Absolutely ridiculous. Stubborn and rude and not what you'd expect from the owner of a company. It's junk removal. Period.
