I went to sift recently with one of my gluten-free friends. The staff were friendly, and greeted everyone who entered the bakery! There were a few tables available, and we chose to sit down to enjoy our treats! I am not gluten-free, but I still really enjoyed their baked goods! They have a good variety of options, and their website clearly lists allergens, so this would be a good place for anyone with dietary restrictions or allergies. They do sell out of some items each day, so I would recommend getting there early if you want something specific. I got the vegan cheesy herb bread which uses a vegan mozzarella. The interior was soft and pillowy. The vegan mozzarella melted nicely throughout, although the herbs were really the more prominent flavor! I think it's a good herb bread, for vegans and non vegans alike. My friend and I split the cookie box. The sprinkle cookie was crunchy, and the sprinkles added extra crunch! The chocolate crinkle cookie was chewy inside and slightly crunchy outside. They were both good, and I would get them again. However, my favorite was the sunbutter blossom because of the beautiful chocolate ganache. I would recommend this bakery to anyone, gluten-free or not! read more

Love this place the gluten free bakery items are delicious, the cakes I've bought are so moist and full of flavor, they are a pleasant surprise to any party or event where you want an excellent cake, gluten free or not! It really is a gluten-free for all. So glad I came across this small bakery in South Minneapolis. There are so many options for gluten-free lovers. My son is gluten, sensitive and almost lost his mind when we walked into the store. They have donuts, monkey bread, custom cakes, breads, puppy chow, and so many more. There is also coffee. The staff were very friendly and willing to show me ingredient list which helped make me feel more comfortable. I've been to Sift Bakery three times now while visiting family in Minneapolis and it has impressed every time! On Sundays Sift has gluten free soft pretzels. They are 8.50 which is a little expensive but worth it once and awhile for a pretzel! The pretzel comes with some cheese on the side. I also enjoy their Chex mix and lemon bar. Parking is on the street/neighborhood and usually pretty easy to find. I will come back to try more food and desserts! read more

I went here over the weekend while visiting Minneapolis, and my friend and I tried a savory corn muffin and a mocha donut. There's a reasonable but not expensive selection of treats here, and the space is clean and well maintained. The baked goods were ok. Personally it's just always a treat to know I can eat safely somewhere, but I also find it frustrating when most things are GF plus vegan/dairy free. They tend to be very sweet when that's the case and have some texture limits. This is definitely the case with the donuts here. The corn muffin was good but not fantastic, just solid. I'd absolutely come back again and try other things. I'm glad this place exists and with a few tweaks I think it could be outstanding! read more

Great place for those who are gluten sensitive - food is great and fast

Gluten free choices galore here!! Cookies, cupcakes, donuts..you name it! We got there around noon and a lot of items were sold out. We will definitely go earlier next time. During COVID, they have it set up where only one person (or couple) can enter at once. The menu items are all displayed on the outside of the building for viewing before you go in to order. This was a great way to handle it as we all know how busy (and crowded!) bakeries can get. I absolutely will be back, there are so many fun menu items I need to try!! read more

It's a "gluten free for all"! I LOVE Sift. Their baked goods are out of this world and make all us Gluten Free people feel a little sense of normalcy. I have tried a lot of their treats, but my favorites are their donuts, egg muffins, and cinnamon rolls. Since the owners are GF, they have a ton of experience working with folks with one or more food allergies. Their donuts are on a flavor rotation, but you can usually get their vanilla or chocolate. My personal favorite is the maple donuts. They have cute and delicious cupcakes that we get for special occasions. If you don't have a sweet tooth, they also have fresh baked bread products! Sift has so much to offer whether you're gluten sensitive or a gluten fiend! Sweet and savory baked goods, savory snacks, frozen take-home items (pizza crust!), cafe drinks, and more. Plus, it's a lovely little place and women-owned! I'm pretty sure their selection rotates daily, but some of my favorite things I tried were: carrot cake cupcake, house-made chex mix, and their mini quiches. I prefer savory more than sweet, so the quiches were tops for me. Buttery little baskets filled with soft cheesy eggs, yum! Some of the flavors of the baked goods got a little redundant and of course are not quite like their full-gluten counterparts, but as far as GF goes, they were great. Covid review!! Ok, so gluten free peeps, this is your place! During pandemic times they would like credit cards only, no more than two people in the store, and definitely masks on. Great! Except they have about 5 million handmade signs and could use a better graphic designer and some help with putting an X or two or three on their sidewalk bc the crowd outside is WEIRD. Maybe that was just my random experience. Anyway, if you have a friend who is gluten free, they will love that you came here! I'm a huge fan of this bakery, so much so I went 2 Sundays in a row, and it's a 30 min drive for me. I love the options they have everything but 1 we loved. We got the chocolate donut, good flavor, rich chocolate and yummy. The cinnamon roll was fresh and just scrumptious. The chocolate cupcake was good without the gritty flavor, frosting was good but this is the one thing I didn't like was the sugar on top that gave it a cruch, ha ha. And I've had the cinnamon sugar donut and OMG it was like fresh cinnamon coffee cake in a little piece of heaven. And it's all gluten free, what a fresh change to have it taste like regular bake goods. Can't wait to go back. read more

Why we hadn't been to this bakery & coffeeshop yet, I'm not sure (did someone say pandemic?). At any rate, we were heading up north and I wanted to stop for coffee before hitting the road. We are not gluten free eaters, so we weren't seeking that feature out specifically. Maybe all of this circumstance is what made the visit that much more impressive, I don't know. All I know is that everything was delicious. I could NOT believe it was all gluten free. We had the blueberry coffee cake and banana bread, oh my. My husband had a classic macchiato (it's served in an espresso cup) and when I asked for more foam, the barista remade the drink happily. My drip coffee with cream was rich and smooth too. Next time you're wondering where to get your morning cup of joe and a pastry treat, send yourself to sift. Rarely does a place warrant five stars, and in this case, they do so flawlessly. read more

Wonderful gluten-free food, but not a welcoming environment. I went to pick up an order and was not allowed inside (masks are required, and I have a medical condition that prohibits me from wearing one). The employees waved masks at me and pointed at my face, then waved me outside and passed me the order through the back door, open a crack. I won't be back until their in-store policy is more friendly and understanding. If you're that concerned about someone in 2022 not wearing a mask, your store shouldn't even be open. read more

Gluten free is not rocket science but it IS a science. And, if done with care, love and the right ingredients, it quickly escalates to art. I found that here at Sift! If not done right, a baked good can quickly go from intriguing and interesting to disappointingly gritty, dry and/or nasty. I did NOT find that here. What I did find is a gem of a corner bakery producing outstanding baked goods without all the commercial brand processed tasteless awful gluten free yuk. Today I tried the Blueberry Donut and the Cinnamon Roll. The donut alternated between bites of sweet cake and blueberry (and sometimes both at the same time). It was so awesome to actually taste fresh blueberry through the cake part without the sweetness or cake masking the fruit flavor. The frosting was a deep blueberry purplish so good layer of goodness on top that I can't even remember if there were blueberries in the cake part. Was the donut or the frosting responsible for the wow? I can't even remember....it was so good I didn't care. That's bakery science. I motored through it. The Cinnamon Roll tasted like grandma used to make, or like my aunt's fail safe recipe.....or was it my mom's? Oh wait mom never "made" them. But I wish she had made them like this instead of from a can. Cinnaminny and buttery and doughy and good. All three working together in blissful bakery gluten free harmony. I only wished I had taken it home to warm it up instead of eating it in the car. Details: parking a breeze as it's on the corner. Currently only take out. Order ahead online or in person (there's a nice window menu). One of the super friendly staff will accept your order then direct you to a side door for pick up. Wear your mask. Since switching to a vegan diet, everyone has been saying, "Holy crap! You have to try Sift's vegan and gluten free cinnamon rolls!" So I did; today. Now, a little more history before I begin with the critique. I was gluten free for two years. One of the first gluten free pastries I learned to make were cinnamon rolls. And, they are FREAKING SICK! I mean, if I do say so myself. So, going to Sift and trying theirs seemed like a crazy good idea. First, parking. I had no problem parking. I got a spot right be the door. As I enter the place, I notice it is very clean, well decorated, and super cool (temperature-wise). The day I visited was pretty hot out. So, going into a cool establishment to enjoy an afternoon snack while reading a book was just what I needed, especially since the A/C is on the fritz at my apartment. As I approach the counter, I am greeted with smiles and a helping hand as I make my pick of snacks. I am pointed toward the cinnamon rolls. I automatically see that these TINY little rolls are $4.00 a pop! First ooops out of so many awesome things that happened before I even walked in the door. I also order a vanilla latte. I usually get that with soy milk. Alas, no soy milk. However, they did have oat milk! That's even better!! If you've never had espresso drinks with oat milk, do yourself a big favor and do so immediately! As my drink is made, I find a seat. I pull out my book, settle in, and take a first bite of the cinnamon roll. The first thing that I came to find out is that the texture is very pasty and under sweetened. So now, it's really small, pasty, and under sweetened. . . for $4.00!!! My drink is finally done. I am hoping the drink has a bit more flavor because that usually helps an underwhelming pastry taste better. The drink looked great. It was the perfect temperature. The espresso bit was perfectly pressed because the flavor of that was there. However, it tasted nothing like vanilla, and had a weird after taste. A little under $10.00 later, and the best part about this visit was the parking spot and my book. You win some. You lose some. I may go back to see if this was a fluke. Well, after one visit we've established that a walk to Sift will officially be a weekend ritual. We tried the cinnamon rolls and pear coffee cake and were blown away by both. As parents of a little man with some potential food allergy issues, this place is a godsend. I want to stress this: You do not have to be food-sensitive to enjoy this place. The cinnamon roll wasn't just "good" as an allergen-friendly item, it was one of the best cinnamon rolls I've had...period. The cold press coffee was delicious and refreshing, as well. We each got a vanilla flavor shot (their own simple syrup) and it was a perfect morning drink. Everyone walking/running/biking/kayaking Minnehaha should be taking a quick pit stop and heading up Bloomington Ave for a stop at Sift! Looking forward to next weekend's walk already. read more
