I'm surprised that Sideways doesn't have an overall great rating but after seeing some of the 1 and 2 star reviews, I can see why it is mistakenly lower than expected. Yes, there will be long waits to be seated...because what great restaurant with great food, doesn't have a long wait. It's a popular place and we go in knowing we will have to wait a while to find a table. Grab a drink, pop outside for some cornhole and convos with random people and relax until your table is ready. Their food is amazing! I'm not much for BBQ typically, but I'm always craving sideways...I'll take the Hangover Helper any night of the week. The wait is worth it. And get to know the people that work there...yes you'll get some sarcasm (which I love), but know it's in good jest. I do wish the bar was staffed with just one additional bartender for faster drink service, but otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing about Sideways. There's a reason it's always packed. Best BBQ I have ever eaten. My family was raised in the country and BBQ was what we had at family reunions and our Church bazaars. Everyone would have gone crazy over this BBQ from sideways. I Have have tried the bbq sandwich, ribs, the chicken tacos, the gut tickler, the corn , okra and more. The servings sizes are so mush I have to ask for a container to take home. Love the Atmosphere. My kids love to go there especially when the concert on the lake is there. Fun Place and the owners and staff make you feel like family. The Harbor is a better place to go to because of Sideways BBQ. read more

The first time i came here I would have given 5 stars. I first came here when it first opened and everything was on point. Food, Service and environment. A little pricey but other than that I swore I would come back. I did come back, but that time they had an event and said the wait was an hour. Fair enough, I came back again and they said they were out of brisket. Okayyyyy, so I tried to come back again and they were having a private event and told me to come back later. I've really tried to patron this place but today was my last time. I arrive, and the place is a quarter packed at about 2:30pm on a Friday. Took the waitress 30 mins to get our drink order. Food arrived about an hour from the time we sat down. I don't know if it was the service but the food was not as good as I remember. I think they have really declined in food and service. Food was fair and way overpriced. We have too many choices in DFW for great bbq and service to spend money on poor service and mediocre food. Ribs dry, brisket was good, sides were ok. Truly disappointed in my experience and I will not be back. I use to try to convince my family to go and make the long trip but I guess they are not as eager to impress and earn your business as when they first opened. Really sad because I remember my first time there was pretty damn good and measured up with some of the great places here in DFW. Was so looking forward because of the long awaited opening at the harbor and good reviews. Wasnt bad but wasn't great. Brisket portion was small 2 slices and not great. Not one healthy side. We had fried okra and green chili Mac which was good. Also ordered the jalepeno poppers and the bacon was so inconsistent - some crispy and some barely done all in the same order. Watched several served the Dino beef ribs and thought they were actually small compared to others I've seen served. Loud, new waitress - her first shift. Loved the jack and coke slurpee. Went with family to try this new place out. Very busy as it was a Friday night at 6;30pm. We all ordered something different. One had the 2 meat plate with one side, but added another one to complete his meal. He got sausage and sliced brisket. He stated that it was good. My friend ordered the large baked potatoe with chopped beef. It looked pretty good, but the potatoe was cold inside.So she ended up removing the luke warm meat, and ate it separately. I ordered the sliced brisket with Mac and cheese. Also got a side of okra for us to split. IT WAS DELISH!! The Mac and cheese was cold and so was the brisket. There was so much S/P and seasoning on the rub, I had to eat around the bark. So what should have been 5-6 slices of brisket, ended up probably 2.5 after removing fat and bark. It was juicy and tender, from what I ate.We were all starving so we just ate it, and didn't say anything to the waitress. She was extremely busy and we knew it probably would take another 20 minutes to get our food. We decided to have dessert. One got banana pudding which was rather bland. I got a peach pie, and was bland also. Definitely needs little more cinnamon and sugar in the filling. And less seasoning on that meat. We would have given Sideways 4 stars, if not for the cold food. Food was cold and mediocre. Waitress was in a bad mood and kept making faces when she walked away from our table. Manager was unprofessional. Never got a refill. Despite this, we left an extra 20% tip on top of the 18% gratuity she automatically included, because people have bad days and we were trying to be nice. And conveniently after using our debit card here, our debit card number was stolen and we had $2400 drained from our bank account. Hope the waitress enjoyed paying her rent and car payment. Took 45min to get our food and when we did it was cold. Important to note it was a weeknight and they were not that busy. Food prices are that of an upscale bbq joint, but the atmosphere says local pub. I should not have to deal with cigarette smoke from the patio if I am seated inside far from the door. Go to Dickies. The harbor has a new bbq joint in the neighborhood. We walked in at around 630 on a Tuesday and the place wasn't very busy and the host told us to seat ourselves. We waited for about ten minutes for a server to greet us, but whatever, I was hungry and excited to try some bbq. We got our drinks and ordered, but were told they were already out of the day's special, beef dino ribs. Disappointing, but I judge a bbq place by their moist brisket and pork ribs anyways, so that's what I ordered with a side of pinto beans. We waited over 45 minutes for our order to come out and the place was just now getting busy. We finally got our order and the brisket was juicy, tender, and had a great bark. The pork ribs were also tender and flavorful. The bbq is great and I would have given this place a four or five star based on food alone, but the logistics and service cancel out anything good about this place. It's a shame because the harbor is finally having its moment at turning itself around to be a good option to go for dinner. read more

Pretty good BBQ, but the atmosphere could have been better. I'd say it was more expensive than it was worth, but that wouldn't keep me from going back. All these start ups get going at the harbor and so many fail. Why don't they (Sideways) look at the one restaurant which consistently survives and see what they are doing correct. Gloria's has survived I believe due to great service not necessarily great food. Sideways has the same basic location, food is equally adequate but I found the service to be lacking attentiveness. I ordered a mojito which seemed to have been made by someone who had never had one. I sent it back via another waitress because ours forgot about us and ordered a beer. I was practically done with the meal when the beer came. I will say though that the meats were very good as well as the atmosphere. I'll give them another try some time read more

Great BBQ at a great venue! Not being a Texas native, I find the BBQ a great mix of a terrific Texas dry rub, and a terrific sauce provided on the table that complements it really well. Both the brisket and the pulled pork are great. As is typical though, the live music drowns out to much of the room, making conversations difficult, plan accordingly. Great band though! read more

I went to Sideways last week for lunch and it was delicious! It has open air doors so you can safely sit inside or out and still catch the nice outdoor breeze and sunlight. I ordered a chopped brisket sandwich and some fries and it was sooo good. The sandwich was huge and the buns were soft and so good! The brisket was fresh and tender and it had a lot! Their bbq sauce was perfect! The fries were twisted and huge!! I could not finish it all! The service was great! I will be back! This place has good to really good BBQ, nice location, friendly service and moderate prices. The cons are the menu changes at night to sandwiches and you need to do the math on your plate option. Our first visit was with out of town guests who hadn't seen the harbor nor had que during their Texas visit. We hadn't eaten here so let's take a chance. It was live music night & we had a sleeping baby but to our surprise she stayed asleep throughout the meal. We were a party of 7 so we ordered near (didn't get the sausage) all of the meats and a few appetizers. Our guests got mixed drinks and enjoyed them. They have a selection of beers and I was happy to discover that they have non alcoholic beer as well. Best liked we're the moist brisket and pulled pork. The fried ribs had a nice texture but weren't the juiciest. Still gotta try a fried rib when you get a chance! The creamed corn is really good, not like canned cream corn at all. We went back just the wife and our baby a couple of weeks later. The food and service was again on point. I got the ribs (not fried) and they were tasty. The one meat plate is only a good deal if you get certain meats but not ribs or sausage so order them separately in those instances. One night we were craving some BBQ and discovered only sandwiches are available after 2100h (9pm) so bummer no luck that night as we wanted que and not a sando. I'll start by saying I USED to LOVE this place, my husband and I use to be regulars. One day we went in, ordered our normal dish and to both our surprise the BBQ sauce had changed!!!! To be honest the new sauce is simply awful, it taste like vinegar water with seasoning mixed in. I hv not been back since. Sorry, I just can't do it. So I just called and they still have not changed it back to the wonderful original sauce. (Thinking with plenty of time there would surely be many complaints.... I guess not :( ) All I can say is What a waste of a great place, with great atmosphere, great food ruined by horrid sauce. I don't like leaving bad reviews but I want our old sideways back!!!!! It's a shame because I don't eat brisket without sauce and don't know many people that do. But c'mon, something's gotta give- how can you not know how BAD it is? This was such a disappointment, we got a brisket taco and the taco shell you could have used it as a frisbee. We split a brisket baked potato and it was so cold it barely melted the butter. The taste of the meat was good, but it too was cold. The poor waitress never came back to the table as she was dealing with an issue in the kitchen. Really good BBQ! On entering the staff was pleasant and helpful. Jessica was a great server and her recommendations were spot on. We had the pimento cheese jalapeño poppers and were amazing! The smoked flavor on these bacon wrapped peppers was delicious! Then came out smoked meats. Got a trio of moist brisket, pulled pork and jalapeño sausage and split with my friend. It was a great combo. Combined it really hit the spot. I only had their spicy sauce and it was great so didn't try their 'normal' sauce. Beer selection is good. Standard fare and some local craft beers makes for a descent selection. I highly recommend this bbq joint and hope you enjoy it as much as I did! read more

I was severely let down on our visit - we were expecting a lot more from the reviews we read online. Checked in at the host stand, hostess couldn't give us an estimated wait time because live music was starting soon (it didn't start for another hour at least), but we decided to wait it out. We got seated at an awkward table, then asked to switch to another where we felt more comfortable. Waited 15 mins to be greeted however, our waitress was extremely friendly - Andrea I think? She stated she had to drop drinks off at her table outside (which seemed weird to have her split between inside and outside) but that she would grab our drink order and be right back. We got our drinks and ordered food. Food came out faster than we thought it would which was nice! However, it was pretty subpar. My husband had the Hangover Helper and was not impressed. My chopped brisket was pretty good though. And the okra and ranch were great as well! Overall, it was an okay visit but I don't think it'll be our first pick on a Friday night again. read more

I am writing this review because I want the owners to read it and keep doing the good things and tweek the meh things. We need this place to be successful. Came in for lunch and the atmosphere was great. Very clean and had a stage for live music. I want this place to succeed because we need a good venue for live music!! We ordered the brisket and ribs. Had the BBQ eggroll they call it the Kabooble or something. Please take the mac and cheese out of this eggroll. The mac and cheese changed the texture of the dish. Our sides were the hatch green chili mac and cheese and bacon ranch potato salad. For desert we had the banana pudding. Let's start with the brisket. Excellent! Very moist and had great flavor. They did a fantastic job on this meat. Will order every time! The bark was great and nice smoke ring. Hard to say I had a better brisket. Ribs: Need to spend some time on these. They were tough but had a great pepper flavor. Just need to go on the smoker longer. Need more flavor! Side: Hatch Green Chili Mac and Cheese- not really impressed. The sauce may have been home made but tasted like Velvetta shells and cheese with added Hatch Green Chili's. Not a bad thing to add to Velvetta but I expected more home made taste. The Green Chili's added nice heat! I would tweek this recipe and really dive into a great cheese sauce to go with the shells. Bacon Ranch Potato Salad- excellent. Really liked the recipe and would order again. Barstools: Honestly I am surprised at the poor quality of these stools. They seemed like something from Hobby Lobby. Really cheap, flimsy and uncomfortable. Cannot have these in a commercial restaurant. If I wanted to belly up to the bar and drink beer I could not sit in these. read more

We saw the reviews and chose this restaurant over Gloria's or the hamburger place. We got the brisket and turkey. Turkey was edible but the brisket was so fatty you could not eat it. Whatever they used to season left a terrible aftertaste. The fries were cold and had no flavor. We were so disappointed and wonder how this place has five stars. We were there on Saturday at lunch so wasn't an "off" time. Prices were high considering the quality of the food. Waitress was nice enough but running her hands through her hair as she took our order.... Just a terrible experience. read more
