We've lived in Rockwall for two years and finally decided to give Velvet Taco a try after my sister recommended it for years, and now I see why! My husband and I ordered the combo meal, which included two tacos, a drink, and a side of queso. I had the Fish & Chips taco... it was AMAZING. I worked at Captain D's for years, and they could definitely learn a few things from Velvet Taco. The fish was perfectly crunchy, the ingredients were fresh, and they even included actual crunchy potato chips. My husband ordered the salmon taco and said it was absolutely delicious. He enjoyed it so much that he went back and ordered a second taco, the Pork Al Pastor, and loved that one too! When he told Gustavo how great everything was, Gustavo said, "You can always leave us a review." I was already planning to! To top it all off, we celebrated my husband's birthday with a delicious slice of red velvet cake. By far one of the best places to get fresh, flavorful tacos in Rockwall. It's Cinco de Mayo where else would we go?! What we had : Combo's - beef chimichuri, roasted chicken, chicken tikka, guacamole and queso. As Always-Absolutely delicious! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully served. The tacos were packed with great ingredients, but the real standout was the queso -- it was basically liquid gold. Creamy, rich, and just the right amount of spice without being too much. So good we could have eaten it by itself! Definitely adding this to my regular order. The service was also excellent, friendly, attentive, and helpful. We really appreciated the recommendation to try the queso because it ended up being one of the best parts of the meal. I like velvet taco and have been to other locations many times so when I say this was probably the best execution of their tacos I have seen, it is with a fair amount of trials. We tried the Tikka Chicken, Buffalo Chicken, Korean Fried Rice, and Egg Roll tacos. Everything came out fairly fast but made to order, was crisp and not over sauced, and well put together. I've been back to this Velvet Taco location a couple more times since the nacho incident and have had an excellent experience both times. On our first return trip, we once again ordered the brisket nachos and they were delicious and had ample brisket! On our second return visit, my husband ordered his usual two tacos while I ordered the elote/guacamole dip with chips. (I can't get enough of that combo!). While the food was fresh when I look at what I spent versus what I received I'm not sure that it was worth it. I will say that the vegetables are very fresh and there is care put into each taco. The name left us in shambles on our first trip to Rockwall. When we walked downstairs for dinner - I nearly peed my pants when I saw what mom had ordered. Since they did just open, I'll give them another try in about 3 months after they get their "sea legs." The following was my 1st impression. It was okay. Not bad. Not great. It's the sort of place you go because you and your buddies can't agree. Everyone will be quasi satisfied. We shared 4 different tacos: 2 different beef tacos, a shrimp and the falafel . There was a strong sauce on all but the falafel, which made the tacos taste similar to me. They had no chips, which is no bueno for a (predominantly) Mexican food restaurant. The counter service was good. The restaurant was clean. The stools were not comfortable for a 5'2 person, because my feet dangled, but they are somewhat adjustable. read more

My wife had the vegan options, and they were very good. I honestly liked them better than the Korean Fried Rice pork taco I had. Nashville Hot Tofu...killer. Who knew? Tried this place for the first time today. I signed up on the app and got a free queso. It was white cheese dip which is my favorite. It had some spice to it but was very delicious. I tried the chicken and waffle taco which was awesome and unlike anything I've tried before. My husband tried a couple different steak tacos and really liked them. So happy they put in a location closer to us! We love that they make customizing their tacos very easy for us (hubs and I unfortunately have some dietary restrictions). The grilled salmon is by far my favorite and can pack a little punch heat wise. Hubs always likes the Cuban pig and the Kobe bacon burger. Little bummed that gluten free people cannot take advantage of some of the rewards in their loyalty program (even though they have a separate GF menu) but it's a small price to pay and won't stop us from frequenting this place.
