Nice little joint, and, wait for it... *not* in a Gas Station :). Well-lit, clean and a good amount of room. They don't just have 2 salsas, they have FOUR! They are all good too, mild tomatillo, medium verde, spicy Arbol and an even spicier Habanero. They were all VERY good. I got the fajita, chicken and pastor (nice little chunks of pineapple in there). All of them were superb, plenty of onion and cilantro with the obligatory lime wedges. I'm thinking of running over there today. It is worth a drive to go there. Doubt anyone would be disappointed. Enjoy! read more

If you are in the Rowlett area, you must try this gem! It's a clean and spacious restaurant! You order your food at the counter and they bring your order to your table! I read positive reviews about the chips and queso and we had to try them! The salsas were flavorful with a kick! I recommend! The tortillas for the tacos were soft and did not fall apart. Loved this place! My fiancé and I just moved to Rowlett and I was craving street tacos, we found this little gem near our new home and we loved it. We both got the 4 taco plate,carne asada, the mini tacos had plenty of meat and the salsas were chef's kiss ! We also got the chips and queso. The chips are super tasty because they are not thin. Oh and don't forget to get the 3 leches cake,it was homemade and so delicious! The place is clean, there is plenty of space to sit & I have to say we felt so welcomed to the area. Recommended to me and my partner in crime, we headed here for some breakfast tacos. We ordered a couple of carnitas and potato, egg, and cheese and they did not disappoint! My thoughts are if you can order something as plain as potato, egg, and cheese and I'm still craving them hours later, then you got me. Something so simple tasted so good and had me wishing I ordered more. I was told their carnitas and barbacoa were very tasty as well. I had a mixup in relaying my order to my PIC so instead of having one carnitas and one potato, egg, and cheese I ended up with two of the latter. No matter I was still satisfied with what I had. The tacos are street taco size so order accordingly but for me, two was still enough. The gentleman who took our order was very friendly and had such a nice smile throughout our stay. Simply perfect tacos. No muss no fuss. Simple menu with tacos, tortas, burritos, quesadillas and a burger that I am anxious to try. Got the lunch special and for ten bucks I got three tacos, rice & beans and a soda. I had the quesabirra, pastor and fajita tacos. Completely satisfying and a bargain. Clean but small restaurant. Amazing authentic tacos, rice and beans in a very cute taqueria right off the Bush Turnpike. The customer service is top notch and they are fully bilingual and friendly. The refried beans were some of the best I've ever had. I love the barbacoa tacos and my husband especially loved the pastor tacos. Not going to lie almost drive right by it, it's tiny. I'm going to preface this with I have worked in several Mexican restaurant kitchens in my youth and the flavor in their rice and beans was so exquisite. A lot of Mexican restaurants just see them as an after thought bland rice and bland bean paste but this little taqueria was outstanding. I've had my fair share of tacos and I must say all the tacos we got were delicious, the meat was well seasoned, and juicy. Stopped by today for some tacos and the barbacoa was great, fajita was average and the lengua was my favorite. The salsas were not great. I used my own at home and made it work. We also got a burrito and it was good. I would say over all they just need to work on are better salsa options. (They were very lemony) Customer service was excellent! Super friendly people. When he said these were the best gas station tacos he wasn't lying! Open 24/7, Twisted Trompo is a gas station Mexican restaurant that specializes in Mexican street style tacos. They share the same building with the Chevron convenient store which takes up a third of the building. Right outside are the gas pumps. The interior is nicely decorated with bright color, nice booths, tables and chairs. What draws your attention right away are the large plexiglass window openings that show off their state of the art. You'll also notice the large pieces of meat standing vertically on large skewers. In the context of Mexican cuisine, trompo refers to a vertical rotisserie. Meat is skewered and turned slowly as it cooks with the outer layers being shaved off for orders. Their tacos are made from scratch with their authentic Mexican marinade. They also serve breakfast items, quesadillas, tortas, burritos, a salad and a variety of snacks. Menu choices were simple with many combo options. I had to try their trompo meat so I ordered the 3 taco combo. You also get a large cup of mexican rice and refried beans. The rice was nicely flavored with some peas. Yom Yom Yom. The refried beans were also nicely cooked. The made from scratch street style taco flour tortillas complemented the heroes on my tray. The chicken was on par, but the steak and barbacoa were outstanding! The single thin slice of steak was succulent and juicy. Dressed with the fresh onions, cilantro and some of their green hot sauce... Yom Yom Yom Yom! The shredded pieces of the barbacoa were seasoned perfectly and again, wrapped in the tortilla, garnished with onions, cilantro,.. Yom Yom Yom Yom! Even Nick's lengua (beef tongue) was tender and flavorful. So don't let this gas station restaurant fool you. Some of the best food are found in hole-in-the-walls. This was no exception. It reminds me of the humble beginnings of Hoover's Blue Pacific. It's too bad Twisted Trompo isn't here. What a great place to find great food 24/7!
