I've been several times. Here are the orders that I really enjoyed. Nachos are awesome! The enchiladas were great. The torta was also really good. I will def go back as everything I've had has been really good. Glad this place is in Garland. Place is small. Staff is typically the cashier only. Staff was very friendly and made suggestions when I asked. The menu is very robust. All your typical Mexican dishes. Do yourself a favor and go try them for yourself. The food here is always wonderful, and the staff is quick and accommodating to specific tastes and dietary needs. The restaurant as a whole has a homey feel to it with lots of art and other things on the wall, it feels like being at grandma's house. I was craving menudo for a Saturday breakfast and searching on Yelp gave this place great reviews. The taste and structure of the large bowl was well done compared to other restaurants. If you're looking for some good tacos pull up here to Nena's. Recommend trying the tacos de barbacoa they're so juicy and the tortilla is soft and hot. Food was tasteless and garbage. Place looked filthy. Tacky. All waitresses were sitting talking and bsing. Place was empty for a Sunday. I should have followed my guy instinct and turned around as soon I saw the place was empty and that there was layers of dust. On the floor. Filthy and it was 1pm so how does a place get That dirty ? Food. I wanted Menudo. They were out. I was like okay. Let me give it a chance and order something else. Pollo en Mole. Ordered this unflavored tough chicken. I picked at my plate. Everything tasted awful. Only good thing was that they made handmade tortillas. But what good is that if I have nothing good to put in my tortilla ? Chips served were stale. Salsa was oddly hot. Eww. Ordered take out for the very first time specifically to try the menudo. Several reviewers gave it high marks so decided to give it a chance. The staff were friendly and a customer sitting nearby offered up again that they make the dish 7 days a week and it's always good. I have had menudo from other restaurants in the area but this was far superior. The tripe was cut into perfect bite size pieces and it had plenty of hominy. Found this little gem through yelp and I'm glad I did. The last Mexican joint I had was horrible! But this place was great! We ordered to go and went at almost closing time. The young lady that took our order was very nice and knowledgable of the food. I ordered the fajita dinner plate. The spicy one. It came with rice and beans, side salad, and choice of flour or corn tortilla. (4pcs) I got both so two of each. I love the flour tortilla! I'm usually a corn tortilla girl! But my god the four was yummy! My spicy fajita, which is cooked with jalapanies and onions, tasted amazing! One if the best Mexicans food I had. Not that tex mex crap. My husband got the torta. Well I took a bite of that and it was good too. I would order it next time when we go back. Ky kids to quesadilla. Cheese only. I love this place!!! Ever since me and my husband found it we can't stop coming! Best menudo in town (they serve it all day everyday) !! I'll admit we were a little sketched out by the place and area at first but we got past that once we tried the food! Not to mention our server (the beautiful and lovely Emily) is the best!! Shes always attentive and keeps us entertained. She definitely brightens up the place. I'm sure other regulars will back me up on that! They serve breakfast all day along with everything else on the menu! Oh and let me not forget to mention the tortillas! Flour and corn tortillas are home made! It's a win win!! My family and I came here and really enjoyed the food. The enchiladas were good, the rice and beans a little bland but the Carne Asada stole the show! If you order chilaquiles, you'll get...salsa from salsa & chips, 1 lbs of yellow cheese on top, and diced chicken (tasted like frozen chicken breast)Their version of chilaquiles no where near how REAL chilaquiles should look or taste! This truly is a hole in the wall joint hidden in a rough looking plaza. I was looking for a place like this for great Mexican food and boy was I glad I found this place. It really isn't much to look at. The tables and seating and decor are bare bones and old, but the food that comes out of here is great. The staff are really friendly and will greet you as soon as you enter the door. They are very attentive and helpful. The salsa and chips were very good. The salsa seems to be hand made and fresh. We ordered guacamole and sour cream to go with the chips. The guacamole came hand made and they added peppers for us. It was very tasty. My partner and I both had fajita tortas. they were so good and different from anything we had ever had. You could really taste the grill on the meat. If you are in the area and craving really good authentic Mexican food, stop on by. The food portions are huge and the price is cheap. You wont regret it. Other reviews must be friends of Nena. Enchilada was nothing but ground beef in a tortilla, no sauce, no flavor, just beef and tortilla. I asked for beef and cheese so there was melted cheese on top and I added a huge helping of salsa. Taco was exactly the same. Beef inside a tortilla, no flavor no other ingredients. With this I put the lettuce and tomato on my plate in the taco and again added salsa. Chips are nothing but grocery store quality, salsa is ok. They may have great torta's menudo, fajitas or something else but I always judge the quality on enchiladas and these were seriously lacking. read more

A small, simply, but clean mexican restaurant with simple Mexican flair. We came 30 before closing but got very friendly service and fresh food. The fajitas were great. The tortillas came toasted. This definitely has hole-in-the-wall atmosphere a bit dirty & dingy but we still had hopes because sometimes looks can be deceiving. However our hopes were soon dashed. This was possibly the worst service we've ever had. Anywhere. Ever. The entire staff stayed in the kitchen the entire time except to run out food or check someone out at the register. It took an eternity for our food to come out. He had beef enchiladas, the whole plate was mediocre at best. I ordered carne asada (which arrived at our table after he had already finished his whole plate) and I was met with something resembling beef jerky or some type of food leather because steak, it was not. Not mentioning the homeless woman sitting at the front table eating a bag of lays with Fritos bean dip.. but that's another thing altogether. The entire experience leaves me wanting back the almost 2 hours it took to get a "quick bite" for lunch. Safe to say we will not return. read more
