We were able to pick up food for our Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. Enchiladas, Beans, Rice, Chips and Salsa were delicious. I went to the restaurant a few days before to place my order and was given help on ordering for 16 people. This was so helpful. The food and drink is some of the best Tex Mex in the area. The portions are extremely generous, and service is unmatched. Friendly family atmosphere. When I heard we were trying a new place that serves menudo, I was excited! Unfortunately that excitement quickly turned into worry as I noticed there was no hominy... Now I know many say that hominy doesn't belong in menudo, but this usually means it's just a recipe from a different part of Mexico. When I first tried the menudo, it was not only bland, but tangy too? Like they used limes instead of salt... and the texture of the meat was not as tender as we like. I knew right off the bat, since this was not great, what should I really be expecting for the other items ordered. Since it was nearly lunch, my mother in law ordered their Carné Guisada. This meat was so tough & chewy, she wasn't pleased. My wife tried their chilaquiles and had them add chicken. Now I'm not sure what was going on here, this dish normally uses pieces of freshly fried tortillas covered in sauce. But these tortilla pieces were just soggy, almost like they either didn't fry them up, before covering them in the sauce, or they tried frying them in warm oil and they just absorbed the oil instead. Service was great. They had a live one man band there for Mother's Day. He was awesome! The menu is expansive and you can pretty much modify anything you want. However, we did order the queso and had to send it back. I don't know what that was but it was not queso. It tasted like liquid cardboard. We were in the area yesterday and decided to give Amelia's a go. The chips are what make us not go to this place more. They are so thick! They are definitely made in house. The salsa is good though. The queso was pretty watered down and not a lot of flavor. I had already ordered my dinner which had more watery queso but it was still good. My husband had the fajitas and the steak was really good. Amelia's Mexican Restaurant puts the home in Homemade! The super soft and tasty tortillas are the best in DFW. The welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff make dining here a pleasure. Bryan was our waiter and he guided us through the menu to order exactly what matched our taste. The fajitas, chile Relleno, and deep fried chimichanga were prepared perfectly. The only negative was the chips and salsa. Specifically, the chips were hard as a rock. The salsa had a sweetness not typical of tex mex standards . Don't get me wrong ,they were satisfactory, just not my style. The bar was good and happy hour all day Tuesday was a bonus this initial visit. This is a well run family business and you will notice it in every detail. The Rowlett community has a fine Tex Mex establishment to enjoy. If in the area make sure you stop by. The food was okay. The price was okay. The service was horrid. I never paid wait staff to be rude, mean and incompetent before. They made no effort to make us want to come back. We received mean and uninviting looks by several staff all through the meal. The ambience was crowded and they they sat us over an air conditioning vent. Just what I was craving for on a Saturday night and it hiiit the spot! Chips and salsa were great. The Saturday evening we stopped in they happened to have live music. It was a bit loud to be able to enjoy a conversation but the musician was very talented. I ordered the chicken fajitas which was a nice portion. I will say there was a LOT of onions, like more than necessary, and very few peppers. They also came with only 3 tortillas but there was plenty more than 3 tortillas worth of food. I did ask for more but was charged $2 for them. I really think at least 4-5 is more appropriate without an additional charge. Other than that would likely go back again when we're in town! read more

I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! First off, the owner was there when i walked in and she couldn't be bothered to even look our way while we waited over 10 minutes to be seated. Once we were at our table, the busboy and waitress were extremely attentive to anything we needed on the contrary to how the owner was not to be bothered with. The food seemed to be bland in taste and was not worth the price we paid for. We sat close to the kitchen and what really made us disgusted with the owner was the fact that she talked to her employees as if they were beneath her. We overheard her belittle the cooks and overheard her even call them out of their names!!! Infuriating is what we all felt when listening to her disapproval over something that was not worth her reacting that way! It immediately brought a negative ambience to our experience and would never go back to support such behavior especially coming from a small business owner who should be more than grateful to everyone helping her business work from the customer to the employee cleaning up! Tried this place last night. Everything was going ok, until we got our check! I had been drinking house skinny spicy margs. When I got the check I saw they had charged me $16/ea!!!!!!!!!!!! Atmosphere: It was nice, not too loud. It could do with a bit more decorations inside but its not so plain that it looks weird. Service: Our waitress was great! I think it needs some extra spice in it. Not sure if I went again I would order it. I ordered the lunch taco salad and the chicken tortilla soup. The salad had ground beef (you can choose what you want), sour cream, cheese and of course lettuce. I add their salsa as my dressing. It was good, no complaints on the salad. I messed it up because I put to much salsa on it so it made it a bit watery. Flavor all in all was good, I would order again and try to contain myself with how much salsa I put on it. We experienced Amelia' for the first time today! We had a large group (15) and Amelia's totally did amazing! The service provided by Jonathan was spot on! The food, starting with the appetizers to the fabulous soups and entrees were all excellent! Loved that she has a Sunday brunch menu with tasty temptations! The portions were abundant and we all left with 'to-go' boxes because the food was too fabulous to leave and we were stuffed and could not eat another bite at the moment! This has to be the most bland, microwaved Mexican food on the planet. There is NO way this is made fresh. I actually couldn't even finish my food and I didn't bother to take leftovers, which I NEVER do! The cheese in the enchilada was literally a rubber log and the food was so flavorless, one would have thought flavor was illegal under federal law. The margaritas are made from premade sour mix and sickly sweet - AT A MEXICAN RESTAURANT? When the manager asked why I didn't want to take the food, I explained the food was obviously made from low quality ingredients and was not appetizing. The location is nice, the inside is cute, spacious enough to have big groups. On Saturdays they have $2 mimosas advertised but got charged $3, not a big deal just might be good to change sign, the mimosas were good. They start you off with chips and salsa, the salsa is a bit spicy but not that savory. The place should update their menu, ordered pancakes and the menu said it would come with bacon but was given salchicha. Just double check what you are going to be given if you really care for bacon. I was craving green chilaquiles so that's what i ordered . The plate was Green Chilaquiles with sunny side over medium eggs and beans. The salsa was good, the chilaquiles didn't come with crema so we had to ask for a side of sour cream (not the crema mexicana) and got charged $2 for a small container.. smaller than the one they bring the salsas in. Honestly not worth the two bucks for a spoonful of sour cream. Giving the chilaquiles an overall rate of 6/10. If I were to visit again I would try something else on the menu.
