I didn't know this was the grand opening weekend but the food Gods led me here and it was well worth the journey too Rockwall. Let's start with the customer service top notch. Always at the table conversing keeping the glasses full and just engaging everyone at each table. Now too the food, everyone had something different chicken, brisket, sausage and RIBS. The sides, Mac and cheese, fries and personally i had it all because I was Hungry! The brisket was cooked perfectly moist, tender scrambled full of flavor a must try. The ribs had this run that was pretty darn awesome, there was something unique about the rub, the smoky flavor and the tenderness about these ribs. The smoked chicken was not over cooked and very moist with robust flavors on the outside. The sausage was just ok and the sides of ranch complimented the food and the sides. The sides the green beans were very good and the Mac and cheese were oooh weee a must try, if you like a twist on fries try there they are reasonably priced and very flavorful. There is an full bar. Try this spot regardless if you live in Rockwall TX or not. read more

I can't speak for the bbq but I was certainly disappointed in what I did experience. Wanted some apps and drinks while listening to the concert in the harbor. The waiter was great but that's where it ended. We ordered nachos and it took well over 30-minutes to be brought to our table. Nachos-absolutely nothing about making them should take more than 3-minutes and they are not even good. They claim to have "crafted" drinks, so I ordered a Moscow Mule. It was the worse I have ever had. More ice than anything else and tasted like a watered down lemonade. When shared my dissatisfaction with the waiter, he did apologize, so we ordered a different drink. Those tasted like straight alcohol and obviously they were trying to be funny by pouring way too much Vodka but it only seemed as though they had incompetent bartenders who had no idea how actually make a "crafted" cocktail. Next time I'll wait an extra 15-minutes for a table at Gloria's were the food and drinks are always great. read more

Wife and I stopped in around 5pm on a Saturday night. Food was ok, not bad but nothing special. Wife ordered a loaded baked potato but there was no sour cream or butter so not sure what loaded means. I had the fried ribs and pulled pork. Both tasted ok but the pulled pork was very greasy. The wait time is the main issue. Took us over 30 mins to get our food. Waitress said the kitchen was backed up but we noticed 2 tables seated after us getting there food first. Probably won't be back too man other good bbq places around town. read more

In a good location, if you can find a parking place. We visited on a Sunday around 6:00 pm. and it was crowded and noisy. I had the turkey plate with potato salad and my husband had the sausage plate. The potato salad was tasteless to me. Went yesterday had the brisket, ribs, and a few sides. Best brisket I've had in a while (melts in your mouth). Ribs were good. The fried okra was fresh and lightly battered awesome! Potato salad was on point. Cream corn hit the spot! Highly recommend you try this place. read more

Excellent brisket, comes out moist with decent amount of fat. Eat it quick or it gets dry. They let me pick fatty cut or lean. Went for lean. Pickles were tasty, one of my favorite places for pickles. The cole slaw is excellent. I asked the waitress if she'd pick the coleslaw over the potato salad and so coleslaw it is. It actually makes a good condiment to the brisket. I like sweet things. The BBQ sauce was okay, but not as good as the coleslaw. Only downside was I got a head splitting migraine from 2 til 11 pm later, Looking up online, nitrites in pickles and BBQ foods are a common culprit. Never had this problem though. I would still come back, though maybe just not so soon. I do recommend this place to any BBQ lovers. I'm sure normal people wont suffer migraine from eating BBQ, I should have eaten breakfast that morning. The bread slice was the most sorry thing there. A thick slice of brioche made in store would have been ideal. read more

Great look and great location! All the promise in the world! We had lunch there yesterday and we're disappointed. The brisket was cold and very fatty (my wife would not eat it). The sausage was cold, lacked flavor and very chewy. No pickles, no bread and one small ring of onion? Service was average...asked for silverware twice then got it myself. If you have to wait more than 10 minutes, skip it!!!! The food is average at best and pricey and the service is HORRIBLE!!! I never mind paying a lot for an amazing meal, however this place isn't it. It's set up as if it's an entertainment destination that happens to serve food, yet all the reviews I've seen talk about how great the food is. I grew up in the Hill Country of Texas and have been eating amazing BBQ for many years. This is not amazing BBQ, it is average. It's not worth the normal 1 hour wait on a weekend evening. And if you chose to wait, there are few ares that you can actually wait that aren't in the way of the either the hostesses or wait staff standing around. Before actually eating here, we'd attempted to wait on a weekend evening b/c we were anxious to try it. There were few places to stand that weren't in the way of either the hostesses or waitstaff standing around. Then the bartender told us the beer was warm! Not a good thing for an establishment touting all their tap beers available, so we left. On the Saturday afternoon we did manage to eat there, there were only about 5 tables full. Service was absolutely terrible. I'm not a friend of the owner or manager, so this an honest review. Skip it! As we left, we came up with about a dozen other BBQ places in Dallas area that are WAY better. read more

Our first time to Sideways and sadly most likely the last. The bill was $35 for 2 chopped beef sandwiches, 2 sides and a tea. Chopped beef sandwich was extremely dry and okra seemed to be from a frozen bag, nothing special. The fries are not typical fries and I personally did not care for them. The waitress forgot to turn in side order so we did not get the sides until almost finished with sandwiches. We were disappointed as we have read so many positive reviews but definitely a miss for us and due to price won't be giving it a second chance. read more

Today would be me and my husband's 3rd time coming to Sideways. The first time was just a quick stop at the bar but even in that short time frame we were won over. We returned on a Sunday afternoon and absolutely loved everything about this place. I'm sad to say today we returned and had a horrible and heartbreaking experience. We walked in and up to the host stand where a man sat looking at his phone. I immediately said hello. He never looked up from his phone, got up and walked towards the kitchen. My first thought was maybe he's just here picking up an order or maybe he's a cook. He walked behind the counter still looking at his phone. With that being said me and my husband decided what he had done was fairly rude and that we would just go to another restaurant, BUT not before we asked a worker at the bar who the guy in the blue shirt was and to our disbelief he told us it was the OWNER. I couldn't believe it. Any of the other workers we may have given this place another go another day. But to be ignored like we didn't exist or to be slightly made to feel like we weren't wanted by the actual OWNER was a huge blow. I'm sad to say bc of this one incident we will not ever be returning to sideways. Huge disappointment for what otherwise appears to be a great establishment. read more

I took a client here for lunch. We both ordered meals with the pulled pork. I ordered a baked potato with pulled pork, gluten and soybean oil free, no ranch dressing because it has soybean oil in it. After receiving my meal, I took 2 bites of the pork, and spit it out. It was absolutely rotten! Nasty! I reordered just a potato, and as before, I also received a second serving of ranch dressing. I visited sideways for the first time and all I can say is the food is great for the price! Everything was cooked amazing and on point!

Really good barbecue, we could taste the smoke flavor on the brisket, the fries very flavorful and unique. I would suggest getting here before six or you will have a wait. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, the part-owner was wiping tables making sure everything was ok. Got crowded after seven pm ,people where waiting to get in the restaurant. Parking is a challenge, I think they will validate if you use valet parking up front near the movie theater. read more

Was here for the first time on a Sunday lunch for a party of 10 and very satisfied. The brisket and ribs were so tasty, the dryrub seasoning was amazing. I like how this bbq place is not big on highlighting their sauces, only two on the table and tucked in pail. Just shows you that they are confident with the moistness of the meat out of smoker and dryrub seasoning, no need to cover up with 6-8 different kinds of bbq sauces like other places. Most of all, our waitress Victoria was A++++. Very kind, great service, and kept our drinks filled up. Recommend this place, and ask for Victoria for great service. read more

As a BBQ lover, I really wanted to give 5 stars to the melt-in-your-mouth moist sliced brisket that finally arrived at my table. I even enjoyed the rather odd beet juice coleslaw as a vinegary alternative to the rich brisket. But the atrocious service and slow kitchen just wouldn't allow me to give the proper rating that the food deserved. Dear Owner -- hire a front of house manager -- seat your guests in rotating zones -- assign your servers to specific zones. Restaurant basics!!! The "sit where you want" and "servers grabbing up tables" are sloppy, insane practices. Once our server took our drink orders to "claim" our table, she disappeared to serve too many tables at far reaching corners of the restaurant. Exasperated, seeing other tables served who arrived long after us, we were able to grab another waitress. She said "Oh, I saw you sitting there, but didn't want to poach a table." And how long should it take to slice a cooked brisket and put pre-made coleslaw in a cup? Five minutes max, not 30 minutes after ordering. And the men who appeared to be owner and the manager both apologized for the wait, so they knew the kitchen was behind. Serious errors for what should have been easy service on a Sunday night. Oh, and the ladies' restroom was disgustingly dirty -- which makes me wonder what your kitchen looks like. Bring in a professional steam cleaning team and get your place cleaned up. Food: 5. We ate here back in February while in the area for the Monster Energy Supercross races in Dallas. We were looking for an early lunch on Saturday before heading into Dallas, and our friend that we were staying with suggested Sideways. I am always interested in eating good BBQ, so I was excited to stop in here. The brisket was the best brisket that I have ever eaten, and I left completely full. Not only was the food incredible, but the service was also great. We did not have to wait long after ordering to get our food, and the staff made us feel welcomed. I had the slice beef plate. Some of the best smoked beef I have had. I didn't like the cole slaw and they only gave me one slice of sandwich bread. My wife had a Turkey sandwich and loved it. Not so much value but the smoked beef was awesome. I will try a different side next time. Atmosphere was great, decor was rustic Texas style. Service was very good. read more

Took a out of state visitor there today for lunch and just have to say - everything was excellent!! She wanted BBQ and boy, did she get it!! We got the 3 meat plate and the Bettermost so that we could basically try as much as we could. Went a little crazy on the sides, but we were happy with all of them. Loved the creamed corn and the green beans especially!! Oh and loved the brisket the most, though all the meats were good. Had to try the fried pie, but...we took that to go for a late night treat tonight so haven't tried it yet. Excellent service, didn't wait long for the food.
