My husband has always told me, "if it's good BBQ, you don't need a sauce."  But I had always been skeptical... until now.  Sideways BBQ in the Harbor at Rockwall, Texas, made me a believer and obliterated my previous BBQ sauce addiction!  Their sliced brisket was moist and delicious and exploding with flavor.  We had the option of the leaner or less lean (I just don't want to say fat!) brisket, but I found the lean portion to be just as moist and delicious as the less lean.  And the BBQ pork ribs were tender and delicious as well.  We probably would have tried the pulled pork but they had already sold out.  The special side dish of the day was smoked corn and I don't think it will take long to find it's way to the daily menu.  (Think elotes without the peppers.)  We also sampled the green beans, coleslaw, and potato salad.  All were good, but the corn was tops in my book.  All meals were served with a slice of bread.  I would have preferred to have it toasted, but their portions were so generous that I didn't even have room for bread. Restaurant business is difficult in any area, but anyone who has been around Rockwall, Texas, knows what a struggle it is to be successful in the Harbor.  So, make it a point to go out and support Sideways!  Going to the Concert Series Thursday nights at the Harbor?  Stop by for an earlier dinner or get an order to go!  Wondering where to go for Father's Day?  Head on over to Sideways!  There is ample indoor seating and the patio seating provides a view of Lake Ray Hubbard.  If there's a line, there are games to entertain while you wait. I was alone on a work trip and the open doors and windows overlooking the lake was so peaceful. This restaurant also offered upbeat music and a friendly atmosphere. I ordered the two meat plate and was disappointed. The brisket was mostly fat, the sausage was ok and much better than the brisket. Coleslaw for my side and it was ok, it's the pickled type. They do have a large selection on beers, most are local and that is a plus. They just opened so I'll give them a few months then I'll try them again. read more

The only reason this place isn't getting one star is because the food was decent, not great but decent. Waited 5-10 minutes for a server to ask for drink order. Waited 45 minutes for our food...which is BBQ??? Already made items shouldn't take that long under any circumstances. Service was the worst. None of the waitresses were wearing the masks like they were supposed too so you wonder what other shortcuts they are taking. Overall waiting 45 minutes for food, 10 minutes to even take a drink order and just overall cleanliness and lack of hygiene related to Covid was the biggest turnoff. The brisket and ribs are awesome!!! I also loved the homemade ranch and BBQ sauce!! Everything was really good and the atmosphere was fun. This place's food was good. Although Covid-19 has shut down many businesses, They are still open for takeout and for dine in. Plenty of space between others. The turkey was extremely tender and they used a house bbq that wasn't really spicy. They also had karaoke which is always fun. read more

This is my first time here. I have to say I am very pleased with: 1. There is a great beer selection of 20 on tap and 15 bottle. On tap they also feature local beers like Deep Ellum. 2. The servers are friendly and are always making sure your need are taken care of pronto. 3. The brisket is well smoked and moist. The pork ribs had a very nice some ring and fell of off the bone. The jalapeño sausage was moist with good taste of pepper but not overwhelming. Had the fried okra that was good to good crunch but still golden in color not over cooked. Green beans had a good flavor. I also enjoyed the pickled onions. 4. I came by on a Monday and could smell the brisket cooking but sign said they were closed. I couldn't believe it so I pressed my eyes close to the window to see. I was about to walk away when the cook came out front door. He said they were closed on Mondays. The Cowboy Caboodle appetizer stole the show here! We also enjoyed their nachos, loaded brisket baked potato, frozen lemonades, and loaded fries. The only entree we ordered was the pork ribs and they were disappointing. The ribs were dry and overcooked with no bbq grill like taste. The brisket on the loaded baked potato made up for the ribs somewhat. The brisket was tender and flavorful! We will be coming back to try more on the menu as well as their cocktails! read more

They're shown as open at 11:00 everyday but Monday. Went there Thursday at 1:15 and they're close. Not good. Good to know, Sheldon. But their posted hours per Yelp suggested otherwise that day. The food is absolutely delicious but I'm so sad to say I can't come here anymore. I've been 5 times. My 1st experience was awesome and the food was amazing. But every time after it has been an extremely long wait and the food has been lukewarm. Also it's a bummer because from a customer perspective the servers seem to be more concerned about hanging out at the bar or the patio. Last time we waited so long to order that we had to ask a different waitress if she could take our order. We kind of felt like an inconvenience, even being pretty low maintenance. Service was great! Want to say that right off. Very cool atmosphere as well. The food was a little slow for BBQ. (Lunch on a Friday afternoon) but the actual BBQ was disappointing. A party of 4, 2 of us had the brisket sandwich, 1 had pork nachos and I had a pulled pork sandwich. The pork was very tender but terribly bland without sauce. And the Brisket was super salty and dry. One diner called it "jerky." For a bbq joint, it was odd there were only 2 flavors to choose from, spicey and plain but try as I might, I could NOT discern a difference. The sauce was runny and seemed to be vinegar based. I kept shaking the bottle to see if things had settled. It had a good smokey flavor but that seemed all. Sauce is a very personal thing, but I prefer a tomato based sauce whether it be sweet, smokey, hot, mild, molasses forward or not. I even like many mustard based sauces. But this sauce was thin, bland, and not enough to save the pork. Might make a good marinade before smoking, I don't know. A few more choices might have helped. The nachos were good under the pork. I would try again to see if maybe the brisket might be better, but there are too many other local joints to try first. read more

We had our sons rehearsal dinner here. It was fantastic! We had a dinner party of 27. The place was set up perfectly for us. The food and service were outstanding. We had a pre-arranged dinner planned for our guests. Everything was as planned and even better. We were given a price, a total price with gratuity included, so there were no surprises when the bill came. Well there was one surprise, it was cheaper than what we expected. turns out one person didn't eat, and not everyone had drinks, so they didn't charge us for that like they could have. Had to go get a server to find out server after we waited about 20 minutes after being seated. It was karaoke night and not very busy for a week night. Food took forever to be brought over and when it arrived it was room temp. Was not impressed with any of the food. Had to get back up again to find server and a group of them were outside in the patio area playing on phones, smoking and just hanging out with each other. Asked for a manager, never came to the table. On our way out was told by the hostess the person in charge was on stage singing. I've been in the restaurant business for a long time and have a very laid back personality when it comes to service. As we were waiting for our food we realized everyone around us were getting their food and we weren't. At this point it had been about 40 minutes of waiting for our food. We finally asked our server and she said "oh yes let me go check" instead of rushing to the back to see she took her time went to the bar and chit chatted with her coworkers. This was the first time we had seen our server since taking our drink order. The atmosphere was nice but the service was so bad. I have never had such bad service before and i've been in the restaurant business for over 5 years so i'm understanding but man this was just bad. Brisket, the fatty cut, was actually not too much fat but was still nice and moist. Sausage, regular and spicy, were both good. Cole saw was a little more on the vinegary side but I liked it. Green beans were just ok. When I went to pick up food however--poor customer service, the atmosphere was loud!! I come here and down and am very familiar with the staff and seeing how things work. The food is good. The fries were amazing, and I loved the brisket taco. This rating would be five stars, but for two things. 1. There are no kid-size meals, and the portions are huge. We had four kids with us who all wanted different things, but the amount of food each received was so much more than any of them could finish. We ordered the brisket and pork ribs -- both of which were delicious! The bettermost sandwich is also tasty but is really hefty and dense which makes finishing it somewhat of a task but the amount of meat definitely fits the menu description. The pinto beans were also tasty but somewhat on the salty side. The spicy bbq sauce at the table was a lovely addition to the meal.
