Not impressed. The fried pork ribs were okay but everything else was disappointing. Brisket was on the dry side and was not a fan of their fries or Mac n Cheese--the kids wouldn't eat them. Knocked out a couple stars for service. It took 45-50 minutes for our food to come out and our server did not even check in with us to console us of the wait or delay. Like walking into a New Orleans barbecue restaurant a week before Mardi Gras; friendly, smiling waitresses gave us fresh greetings and super attentive service. The view is awesome looking out towards the lake but if you want to see what's going on in the sports world, just look the other way at the giant TVs...though you will be easily distracted by the giant Samoan bartender who is singing along with his patrons to the loud country/rock/pop ballads thundering over the speakers. Called back repeatedly for the next hour and kept getting message that there was no voicemail. Tried to order online and it only gave me a short list of after hours options. Went for Easter lunch and sat in the patio. Started with the Texas toothpicks and they were awesome. Their jalapeño ranch is off the hook! Food took a really long time to get out to us and I suspect that maybe the waitress forgot to put in our order, but when it did come oh how yummy! I'm usually not a big fan of bacon wrapped jalapeños but these were amazing and it came with more of the awesome ranch. I split the Bettermost sandwich with my sister bc of pictures on yelp showing how big it was. Glad we did bc it was huge! My mother had the chopped beef sandwich with their cheese sauce and she loved it. The buns are made in house and you can really tell. Everyone else at the table loved what they had as well. The Harbor wasn't busy at all but bc of the small parking lot, it took a minute to find parking...they should really think about putting in a parking garage. This was one of the low points of my life. Went in hungry, came out still hungry, but also nauseated. After waiting almost an hour (for BARBECUE - where the smoked meat is generally already ready before you even order), sipping on bad tea to pass the time, our order finally arrived. And then things went from impatient to revolted. The chopped brisket included a plethora of huge globules of fat, roughly the size of Slimer (from Ghostbusters), and the total bill with tip came out to almost double a trip to the local Soulmans BBQ. This is bad BBQ. Really bad. The ribs have a heavy, dark bark, but they're somehow still flavorless. Ours were also overcooked and cold. We also had brisket that was completely dry and barely warm. Terrible. The sides come pre-packaged in take-out containers, IN the restaurant. Served by waitstaff. What the hell? We had sides of cold, congealed mac and cheese that was completely inedible and some creamed corn that was pretty good. The only thing that seemed freshly cooked were the fried pickles, which were pretty good. I came to Texas for this? I've had better BBQ in a theme park. read more

First time to try and just not impressed. The brisket was okay and definitely tender. I had to dip it in their bbq sauce for flavor. I did like the smoked turkey a lot, good flavor. The sides just threw the whole meal off. The bacon ranch potato salad was really watery. I'm talking 'soak thru the container' watery. The potatoes were almost uncooked so they crunched when you bit down. The Mac and cheese was rubbery and really stuck together. The food is good, but the wait is just horrible. Ordered 2 brisket sandwich's and a side mac/cheese and it took almost 40 min. I think my stomach ate itself we were so hungry. I kept saying, "If they don't come in 3 minutes, I'm leaving." I never left because the food is actually good. We barely saw the waitress other than giving us our drinks...meh. The 2.5 star rating is only for the lousy service. I doubt there's a single point of failure in the process. It's not the waitress fault and not the kitchens fault. We ordered two dinners and an appetizer. After 1/2 an hour the waitress came back to tell us that they would not have it today. Not sure why it took so long. It took over an hour for our meals to come. It is barbecue so not like they had to cook it. Still came out cold! And no it was far from crowded. $50 for cold slow food! Every table around us had eaten and left by the time we were done. Also people smoking on patio. Waitress said would take care of it because it was not allowed. This barbecue has great flavor and is always cooked to perfection! I'm picky about bbq being too dry at many places, but Sideways always has fresh and well cooked meats. I especially love that you can specify if you want "moist" brisket and that the sauces are home-made. Having dietary restrictions, the hardest thing for me to find is bbq sauce without high fructose corn syrup. Since they make their sauce in-house, it's free from that ingredient but still has plenty of flavor. Go meet the awesome staff at Sideways and enjoy a great meal! read more

I was SO looking foward to eating here because of all the good reviews and we love good brisket and ribs. Hugely disappointed. Went last night (a Friday), ordered the moist brisket and ribs. The "smoked" was incredibly overwhelming - like I was eating in the smoker itself. Neither my wife and I could get half way through these expensive portions of smoked ash. $40 out the window. Also, last night was a cold snap in the 40s, and the restaurant didn't turn the temperature up and it was was freezing. All the customers were wearing their coats, and the food got cold in minutes. I hope just a bad night as we need restaurants to succeed in the Harbor, but I can still taste that soot in my mouth this morning and all we can say now is at least we tried it. read more

The "frozen" margaritas they had were on the rocks. And can you believe they were $8.50?! Probably the best barbecue we've had since moving to Texas. Everyone in the house likes it and that's a tall order with my crew of 6. Whether its carry out or dine in its good stuff. The brisket and chopped pork are my favorite items. The caboodle is a delicious death in an egg roll. Great bar and beer selection and live music on the weekends. I was in the service industry for years, especially in a kitchen manager role. I am the bbq snob out of my friends. If it isn't Lockharts or Pecan Lodge, I'll easily turn my nose to it. Long story short, I'm a pain in the ass when I go out to eat. We went here for the first time last Sunday. Sat at the bar, bartender offered me a drink menu, I turned it away and ordered a beer. Big mistake. As I'm enjoying my Dos XX, I see a guy order his "regular drink" and the bartender grabs a mason jar, puts Jack Daniels in it, and top off with something brown and frozen. I ask him what the hell he ordered, he says the Sideways. Frozen Jack and Coke. Are you kidding me, where has this been my whole life? I knew before getting the food, we would be back. The Sideways was delicious. On the menu it says when ordering brisket request lean or moist. I've always asked for moist at bbq places, but sometimes they don't get it, and I get cardboard brisket.... I order moist, wife orders lean (she doesn't understand good bbq), we get mac n cheese, fried okra, and some potato twirl things. My brisket is amazing. I even try my wife's lean brisket just to taste. If they had sent my lean brisket, there is no way I would have complained. They were both great. Sides were amazing. Bartender and servers are all on the ball in this place. This place has won me from Lockharts. I don't have to wait in line, hope they aren't out of the good stuff, hope for a place to sit. This is a legit full service bbq establishment, yeah full service. This ain't the cafeteria style grab a tray and go bbq. This is quality food, and great service. We were sat and waitresses passed by us and didn't attend to us. The host eventually came by and apologized and waited on us. The place was not busy on the day we visited. Our food arrived timely, however it was COLD!!! Everything was cold and we are not sure why, as it didn't take long to arrive. The taste was good, but the temperature and service was lacking. I order food to go and sat at the bar waiting for my food and watching them prepare others food. I was surprised with the lack of cleanliness and lack of protocols to use when preparing food. I ordered meat by the pound and watched the lady cut my meat and out it in a to go container and she did not even weight the meat. I bought meat by the pound at $28 per pound. I confronted the lady and asked why she did not which the meat and she had no response but to state blankly at me as if she knew she had been caught. I then asked for the manager and the manager had nothing much to say, such as "I am sorry, I understand your concern and I do not know why she did not weigh your meat." She never even addressed the issue with the employee so I asked for my money back and she obliged. read more
