Pulled my boat up at the marina to eat last Sunday. The lines were packed for everywhere else so I gave this a try. Surprisingly good bbq. I love their unique bbq sauce, heavy on the vinegar. Macaroni was average. Fried pickles were above average. My water went empty a couple of times but I was thirsty from a day on the lake. There was also a young lady smoking next to us outside on the patio. I wish the waiters would have enforced their no smoking policy. Gross. It would also be nice if they could put some fans outside when it is super hot and to keep any potential bugs away. read more

Short review, great tasting food, still have a lot to work out. Two of us went in on a Thursday at 7:30. There was a 20 minute wait, no big deal. The couple next to us had a to-go order that got lost and had to have it reordered. After getting our table, I ordered a Diet Coke, and it was the weirdest tasting Diet Coke I have ever had. I am used the the taste of fountain drinks fluctuating, but this was on a new level. We tried to order a pulled pork sandwich ($9) with Mac and cheese ($3) and a "gut tickler" baked potato ($12.50), but they were out of regular mac and cheese and baked potatoes. So no Mac and cheese and I switched to the two meat plate with included side ($17) I got brisket, sausage, and hatch chili Mac and cheese. The food came in a good time, but I was shocked at how little food there was on my plate. The menu said each meat is 1/2 Lb., but there's no way I got that much. Full disclosure in my photo I had already eaten a single sausage piece. The food tasted great, there just wasn't much of it. Also there were no napkins on our table so we had to reach over and grab them off the table behind us. I know this sounds like we were unhappy, but it was a nice atmosphere and great tasting food. We rolled with the issues and had a good meal. They just need to figure out stocking food, portions, and price. We will not be back soon but will try it again in a few months. read more

I try to keep my reviews short, but this one will have to be pretty long to describe all the things that are right about Sideways. So to summarize right up front: this may be the best barbecue I've ever had (and I've had a lot in all kinds of places.) The service was very attentive and friendly, including the bartenders and manager. The atmosphere is a little rowdy, loud, and fun (it was Saturday night), but it was not so much so to detract from the dining experience. I felt like I might have been in Nashville. I've been to the two most-hyped barbecue places in Dallas and felt really let down, when after the long wait and inadequate seating, I found the barbecue to be only average or maybe slightly above. Sideways beats them both hands down, as well as any others I've had except for maybe (only maybe) one in St. Louis. The brisket is juicy, tender, and delicious, with a perfect crust and not too much smoke. You will enjoy it without sauce. I really love barbecue sauce, and I didn't use any. The burnt ends are by far the best I've ever had, because they had everything I love about burnt ends (the flavor and the char), but they were still tender and juicy! Their pinto beans are on the spicy side, because they include jalapenos, but they were so delicious and well-seasoned, with lots of brisket in the beans. My wife had the smoked turkey, and it was delicious as well. I can't wait to try other items on the menu. Check this out, they have a "Cowboy Caboodle," which is basically everything in an eggroll (can't wait to try that.) They also do minimalized barbecue tacos (gotta try those!) Now on to the service. We came at 7PM on a Saturday night. Not your average Saturday night, but during the NCAA Basketball Tournament with Texas A&M playing Gonzaga. Also the owners' birthday party, for which they had booked their most popular band. We were told the wait would be about an hour, which was not a problem, because our friends had found a spot at the bar, and we wanted to catch up anyway. After about 30 minutes, one of the hostesses comes to tell us, "I know we told you an hour, and I'm sorry, but people seem to be camping at their tables, probably because of the basketball and the band, so we don't think we can accurately predict when you might be seated." Okay, not a problem, because you get full menu service at the bar. But after the ball game was over, people started leaving, and we probably were seated within the hour predicted anyway. Before we ordered, I asked our outstanding waitress (Victoria) if there were any burnt ends left, and she said "Yes, they always tell us when we're out of something, so there must be some left." So both my wife and I ordered a side of burnt ends. When the food was brought to the table, Victoria said, "I'm sorry, but we were only able to fill one order of burnt ends, because we just ran out." We were cool with that, but she offered us dessert on the house. We didn't accept the offer, because it's just one of those things, plus who can eat dessert after so much good barbecue! While we were dining, the manager came by to ask about our experience and seemed genuinely interested. The band, "Southern Ride" was really, really good. I usually don't like a lot of noise when I'm enjoying my food, but like I said, I felt like I was in Nashville. It was a fun environment, lots of happy people enjoying one another's company, and some of the best damn barbecue I think you will find anywhere. Sideways is going to be my new go-to when I want to show a visitor to Rockwall a really good time. If I ran a business, I would try to run it this way. This is not a paid endorsement, I just think they really deserve the credit for an outstanding experience. Well done you guys! You have earned a repeat customer! Mixed review.... the hostess... Im giving her the befits of the doubt... must have been having a bad day.. she looked like she woke up forgot to brush her hair.... up in a "messy" messy bun... couldn't be more unpersonable, rude, and flat out bitchy taking our name for a wait list. We clearly were putting her out by being here. And finally after waiting for our table...which didn't bother us at all.... we expected a wait.. but we didn't expect to have to chase down a waiter to take our order after 20 min. Of sitting at a table to be attended to... and another 20 min to get our next round of drink orders.. ( mind you... not even that busy of a night) good thing they have music to distract from the crappy service. read more

The food is pricey but good. Our waitress was lovely. What got me was that it closes at 9...and let me tell you---they mean lock door and leave by 9. We got into town & decided to try it. Got there at 810..promptly ordered. By 825 it was last call on alcohol and music was shut off. While we were eating the staff bustled by continuously taking all The condiments/napkins/etc off all tables. I was halfway expecting to see a mop under my feet. The service at this location was horrible, we were ignored and then when we finally got a waiter it was like we were bothering them for service. Every table around us was being served some were seated after us and got full service and food while we were told there was a hour wait on food or they were out and some of the things we ordered was the same food that was served to the tables around us.. My husband and I went for a late afternoon lunch last week. We were seated right away and the young waitress greeted us promptly and was very nice. The was pretty good. The jalapeno sausage was probably my favorite. I tasted my husband's mac and cheese and it was definitely very tasty. It's a good atmosphere and the view is nice if you get close to the window. The service was good as was the food. Be care about ordering too much food as the portions are pretty big. You could likely share something unless you like leftovers :) read more

We had the brisket that had more fat and it was so juicy almost melted in my mouth. The Mac and cheese with hatch chili's was amazing! Well, the honeymoon is over. First time I ever went to Sideways a few months after they opened, it was great. I was thrilled. Flash forward to today. Nope. Sorry. Meat is still good but their service SUCKS big time. And this isn't the first time I've experienced bad service there. I walked in to place a "to go" order on a Friday at 5pm. Waaay before the rush. Three people at the bar and maybe 10 in the dining area. I stood there for almost 10mins before anyone acknowledged me or asked me if I wanted to sit. Several servers walked right past me and ignored me. Finally, a friendly guy took my order. It took a while. He apologized once for the delay. I said it was OK. Then he gave me my order and I left drove 20mins across town to my home and sat down to eat with my wife and half my order was not there. But...they did charge me for it. I call and ask for a credit for the charge of the missing meat and the gal I spoke with told me I had to drive back over there to get the credit. She finally took my name and number so the GM (Ms Fry) could call me. So now I wait. I'll give it an hour then I'm disputing the charge on my CC. Sideways has good meat. Bad service. There are now other "good meat" choices in Rockwall that also have good service. Adios Sideways. I'm done with ya. read more

I'm from out of town and was staying at the hotel next door with some co-workers. The hotel manager recommend we check out Sideways. We came in for a beer and waited at the bar for 10 minutes. When the bartender finally came over, he was very rude. He scolded us that we were standing in the wrong area and we'd be better off getting table service. Eat here often for lunch and the BBQ is pretty good. It is my go to place in Rockwall for BBQ. Usually always get the sandwich that has pulled pork, sausage and brisket. I like their BBQ sauce it is not cloyingly sweet. The sandwich is so large I hardly ever order sides, but when I have they were OK nothing was really outstanding. I enjoy the atmosphere, but can get loud at times. Do not expect Franklin's BBQ and I would not go way out of my way but is still pretty good and it is located by the lake. read more

We have been to Sideways once before and we were pretty impressed with the overall quality in food and service we received. However, tonight was a different story. We walked in to be seated from the cold rain only to have been greeted from the hostess with a "hold on a second, while we find a table for you". The establishment was not busy, there were plenty of tables available. Anyway, they found a table for us. They sat us at a table for 4...they're were 5 of us. The hostess pulled a chair from another table and said "oh someone else can sit here". We then asked if we could push two tables together. The waitress looked perplexed and said "umm yeah that's fine, this is my section". Then the manager came over right when my wife and pushed the two tables together and said to the waitress and us, "we can't do that, we're expecting a lot of customers tonight and need the seating." I'm sorry but 3 things: 1. No one likes to sit at a corner. 2. They weren't even busy. 3. We were the potential customers already there willing to spend a good amount of money and tip very well. It would have been one thing if they were very busy and that's all they could do to accommodate us but not when it's the early Saturday night dinner "crowd". Instead we left promptly to Rodeo Goat, which we have eaten at before and had great service. To the credit of the owners and management at Rodeo Goat, they have phenomenal customer service. The managers that were on duty were seen running around the restaurant engaging in conversation with their guests, explaining drinks and menu items. We had a wonderful experience here. The BBQ was great. They had a special on burnt ends while they lasted. Yummy yummy. We ordered different meats so we could sample most of the meats. Everything we ate was delicious. The portions were large. We all had "doggie" bags, that we wouldn't let our doggies get near. The food was too good for them. Their little livers would have been overloaded with all the taste packed into the meats. One person in our party knew the owner, a marine veteran. We almost didn't get out of the place. The owner was so proud of his business that he wanted to show off just how the food is cooked. To say that The service was attentive was an understatement. If you like BBQ, you have to come here with enough friends to get to try all the meats. You won't be disappointed. read more

I am a bbq snob first and foremost. So much so that I seldom risk eating bbq if I didn't cook it. Sideways has offered me a reprieve from the long hours and hard work just to have a plate of good bbq. The moist brisket is killer good! I have enjoy d the sides I have tried. Today I tried their pork ribs and I am not a pork rib guy...Holy Smokes! That is the best rib I have put my lips on. Wayne is a meat cutting wizard and Peyton at the bar is a maven of the beverages. Owner/manager was super friendly and invested in my busy and I being pleased and having a great time. All on a slow rainy day right at opening time. Horrible service! The restaurant was empty, service was terrible, it took them an hour to bring out 5 BBQ sandwiches. Do not come here if you are looking for great food and great service!! Soulman's is right down the street waiting for your money! This place has a bartender cranking the music every other song, horrible waitresses, incorrect pricing on their bills and more! Avoid this place! Restaurants like this don't survive at The Harbor because alcohol alone doesn't keep the doors open- it's a combo of great food and great service that works. My wife and I like to try different BBQ restaurants here in Texas. This has been one of the worst one I've have had. My wife had the baked potato stuffed with with brisket and I had the nachos also with brisket. It has been the worst brisket we have ever had. The brisket tasted burned and very salty. We tried to eat it but we just couldn't. Potato and nachos were good without the brisket. The good thing about this restaurant was the service and the music. Don't order the brisket. read more
