    Beef Brisket Noodle Soup
    Rickard S.

My first visit to Sidwalk Kitchen did not disappoint. I ordered the Beef Brisket Noodle Soup. Was a bit surprised at how much of the brisket had been included, more than I expected. The broth was robust, flavorful, and filled with the beef flavor. The service was good, although not much was required. The restaurant was not crowded, but I could tell that many of the current customers had been there before. There are many items on the menu to check out so I will be visiting again. With the loss of another Asian cuisine restaurant a block away, Sidewalk Kitchen will definitely fill the void for me when I'm on the UofM campus.

Sidewalk kitchen is my favorite in stadium village! Everything I try there is great, and they have good authentic dish options along with Americanized options. We love getting takeout or eating in. The chow fun is my favorite, and the fried milk custard is AMAZING. It's a must try unique dessert. The workers are always nice and there's a parking lot next door.

I like this place, even though it's not very spacious. During the one hour I was there, I noticed a lot of takeout orders. Parking isn't very convenient--you'll need to find street parking nearby, which is metered unless you park farther away. The menu is extensive! They offer noodles, hotpot, congee, fried rice, chow fun, milk tea, and more. The flavors aren't very spicy, as the dishes are Cantonese-style rather than Sichuan-style. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! The waiter was welcoming and friendly. I had a great experience overall. I feel like this is a wonderful spot to bring family or close friends for a tasty meal. However, it's not ideal for a formal dining occasion.

My reviews pertains to their takeout and delivery services only. I have never dined in. Although, I can vouch that the restaurant appears pretty clean and spacious for adequate searing Pros: Probably one of the best Asian takeout spots I had in the twin cities. The food isn't overly greasy and the meat quality seems a tad bit more superior than other takeout spots. The menu is very diverse, so there is a good balance of authentic cuisine and the American styled favorites. It was easy to order through third party delivery services and easy to order directly through the restaurant. I like the ease of online ordering as well. My food was ready on time each time, and preparation time was consistent Cons: As much as I enjoy the food here, I have noticed some quality control issues. I have ordered the same thing multiple times, and lately, the honey pork sauce has varied in taste and thickness.

Great Chinese Restaurant! One of the only places in the Twin Cities where the food tastes similar to what I experienced in Hong Kong. However, I took away one star because the prices seem higher than the service and ambiance levels provided. But when I crave great Chinese food, this is my #1 choice in the Twin Cities. It's located on the U of MN campus, so parking can be difficult to find (or expensive) during certain times of the year. Here are my family's fav dishes if you need some inspiration: Mom: Sizzling Egg Tofu Dad: Roasted Duck Appetizer Hubby: Everything Me: Golden Fried Garlic Sole Filet Teen Son: Beef Chow Fun Teen Daughter: Walnut Honey Jumbo Shrimp

We first visited this restaurant on Monday and were back again on Thursday. No other reason! Simply because we experienced such delicious food that first time, my husband and I were hooked! This time, I ordered the white pepper pork belly hot pot, and my husband ordered the walnut shrimp. We were given complimentary Hong Kong-style lemon tea, which had just the right amount of sourness--not too sweet, not too sour, and very appetizing! Two bowls of white rice arrived with the two dishes! First, I tried the white pepper pork belly soup. It was milky white, rich and mellow! It was fresh, mellow, and full of flavor! And the white pepper had a subtle spicy kick... Along with the pork belly, peas, carrots, and black fungus were stewed. Can you imagine how these ingredients could be so harmoniously combined? These vegetables each contributed their own unique flavors while retaining their own inherent flavors! It tasted absolutely amazing! Then, with a bite of rice, I immediately wanted to ask the chef how they cooked it. Could white rice be this delicious?! I wasn't a big fan of sweet walnut shrimp, but this restaurant had me excited, so I grabbed a piece! To my surprise, the husband across from me had already scooped most of the shrimp onto his plate, and half of his rice too! If I'd been any slower, I wouldn't have gotten to eat any! Each shrimp was huge, crispy, and bouncy, drizzled with a layer of white cream sauce. I savored it again and again, wondering what could have created such a flavor. It was delicious! We still had a lot of work to do! But I couldn't wait to finish it. I savored each bite slowly, letting the ingredients fully absorb and let my taste buds fully savor it. I felt the chefs' dedication, their meticulous attention to detail, and their dedication to quality. The restaurant was packed, but not at all noisy. Most of the guests, like me, were focused on enjoying their food. Yet, it was also vibrant, with the chefs busily preparing each dish. The sounds of stir-frying, the roar of the range hood, and the clatter of dishes plating combined to create a unique atmosphere of life! I shared this with my daughter, a fellow foodie, while enjoying the food. She was ravenous! Her university also has a lot of Chinese restaurants, which was one of the reasons I loved visiting her. But now that I have a sidewalk kitchen, I can see my husband and I will be sitting in more often, trying every dish! And then we'll come back for more of our favorites!!

    42. Salted Fish and Chicken Fried Rice
    Shirley P.

My partner and I ended up ordering from here through DoorDash, and they have some of the best salted fish and diced chicken fried rice I've ever had. The salted fish is seasoned perfectly with the umami flavor, and the portions were generous. The meat to rice ratio was decent and pretty well distributed throughout. Everything was well packaged, and it makes me wish I dined in because it's already so good taking out. Next time I'm in Minneapolis, I'll make it a priority to come back and check out their other dishes. We saw this place in the morning as we were having breakfast at Hong Kong Noodle, we knew we wanted to check them out for dinner, and we were so happy to find that they're on DoorDash. I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for Chinese cuisine.

Ordered takeout when they first opened for the day. I received my order quickly and when we opened it to eat, we were impressed. The octopus was tender and tasty. The bbq pork and eel was new to us and also very good. The hot sour soup was a very nice addition to a great meal.

Really enjoyed our visit here at Sidewalk Kitchen. Our family is from Hong Kong and we have lived 20+ years in an area of SoCal that claims to have some of the best authentic Asian/Cantonese cuisine- so to our surprise we found something that even exceeds the quality of many restaurants in LA in the Midwest! We got the Egg with Shrimp Scramble, chicken bowl, and soup/bowl. Everything was tasty and reminded us of real Hong Kong flavors. The iced lemon tea tasted so much like the ones in HK too! To top it off the friendly owner of the place even gave us a free dessert. Can't wait to visit again - especially since it's quite difficult to find really really authentic Cantonese food out here.

I am here in Minneapolis for a week for business travel. While craving for great food within walking distance within the University of Minnesota campus, I have found this gem just taking 3 minutes walking from my hotel. I went the first day eating the beef brisket noodle soup. That was the most authentic Hong Kong taste outside of CA and NY. I went back again on the second day eating chicken and barbecue pork (chasiu) rice, which was very satisfying (ginger paste was even provided adding the flavor upon the chicken). With the full house at 7:30pm, I know this restaurant really rocks. The owners and the servers are very nice. The atmosphere was superb with all the Hong Kong style decorations.

    Overview
    Cristina D.

Came to this restaurant after watching the Immersive Van Goh experience at Lighthouse Minneapolis. The restaurant was not packed today like it normally is due to all the students being on holiday break. However, if you're familiar with this restaurant, you know it gets super packed at any other time of the year. I was actually glad that it wasn't packed because that meant I could take my time going through their extensive menu and more importantly, I was able to take my time enjoying what turned out to be a great, tasty, authentic Cantonese dinner. As we normally do in all Chinese restaurants, we ordered family style, ordering our usual dishes that we have grown to recognize and love eating throughout the years. I usually order 1 poultry, 1 meat (either beef or pork), 1 seafood, 1 noodle, and finally 1 veggie dish and plain white rice. However, today I ordered a couple more dishes than usual. For a half order of roasted duck, there was definitely a lot of pieces included to the order. For my veggie dish, I ordered the watercress with garlic. You can never go wrong with any vegetable simply stirfried with lots of garlic. For seafood, I ended up ordering the clams with black bean sauce and deep fried shrimp with crispy garlic and peppers. Both dishes were perfectly seasoned and not over cooked. I ordered the orange chicken last minute because this is my daughter's favorite dish. Their orange chicken was superb because you can really taste the deep orange flavor in the sauce and the chicken was not overly battered like in some places. I know it must've looked like gluttony to the other Asian customers eating in the restaurant. There was definitely enough food on the table for 12 people. But what's better the next day than leftover Chinese food. And with my vacation winding down soon, this seemed like an appropriate time than any to indulge in my last minute cravings. If unfamiliar with the area and searching for Chinese food, there were more than a dozen Chinese restaurants of varying cuisines within a 1-mile radius from University of Minnesota. However, if you're looking for authentic Cantonese food, be sure to give Sidewalk Kitchen a try. Whether you're looking for a nice bowl of noodle soup for yourself or looking to have a family style dining experience, their extensive menu will sure to please your appetite.

Love coming here! Great ambiance and a menu that has something for everyone. Great portions, ideal for a large group. Very friendly staff as well! Love their sizzling egg tofu dish especially, and their seafood dishes are also stars. Would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the university area!

I loved our experience here and that this is locally owned. The owner was very nice and welcoming! This is def the place for Cantonese dishes. I am obsessed with their Honey BBQ Pork, Ginger Scallion Chicken and Salt & Pepper Squid. They also have delicious teas and Hongkong style tea! If you do want to get their roasted duck, you may have to go earlier in the day as they make those daily and usually run out by dinner time. Their locations is conveniently near the university and it's perfect for groups especially with most dishes served family style.

In…read morere-reading my reviews, I stand by everything I've said about the excellent consistent quality of the food, the service, and how much I enjoy coming to this restaurant. I truly hope they are around longer than I am. I would hate to find out this was one of the choices no longer available to us. Please read my previous reviews for a more inclusive view; this review focuses only on their lobster. I had previously mentioned that they prices of their lobsters (I love the version with black bean sauce) have gone up tremendously. While true, there seems to have been a subtle change in their pricing strategy. Previously (as of before the pandemic), the lobster was priced by the pound, which is the conventional way of doing it. However, they seem to have two lobster prices. The first one is called "Big Lobster" and they say it's between 2 and 2 and half pounds per lobster. The price of that (as of this review) is $56 dollars, or $28 per pound. That's not really a bad price at all. It's expensive, but reasonable. The other lobster is called "Live Lobster" and is priced $10 less at $46. So the real question is how much does this second version weigh? I ordered the Big Lobster, but they said they were out of it. I asked the weight of the "Live Lobster" but I didn't really get a straight answer, but he seemed to say "about two pounds" which doesn't really make sense because that's the price of the larger, more expensive lobster. But I decided to go for it anyway. As I stated in my last review, I'm guessing this lobster is at least two pounds, based on many years of eating lobster. For this review, I had ChatGPT translate the the Chinese on the menu, thinking it was secret code for "if you can read Chinese, save ten dollars by ordering this version" but AI says the Chinese means "lobster" so if you spoke Chinese, you'd still be mystified. So my recommendation is order the version that is ten dollars cheaper and you may (or may not) be paying $23 a pound. Price aside, I love this version of lobster and it is certainly a better deal than what you would pay at an American style seafood or steak restaurant in the Twin Cities.

The food menu features a lot of very reasonably priced fish and seafood dishes and some pricey steaks like a fillet for $88 (wow!). Sides are separate and they've got a long list of tantalizing starters too although you MUST try the amazing shrimp/avocado boats-4 crunchy little endive boats with a delicious ceviche-like mixture of tiny shrimp. We arrived around 5:30 p.m., about 30 minutes after opening. The room was dark, cramped, and louder than the small space can really support. The playlist was distracting, and the kitchen staff audibly singing along did not help the atmosphere. Service was well-intentioned but missed the mark. Our server could not tell us whether the main component of a dish was cucumber, fennel, both, or something else, which is a basic menu question at this price point. Timing was off throughout the meal, so if you are expecting polished, well-paced service, I would look elsewhere. The food was the biggest disappointment. I could see an attempt at creativity, but the dishes felt more confused than composed. Several flavors landed at extremes: too sweet, too spicy, or too heavy on fishy funk, without enough balance to pull them together. It felt like "fusion" without a clear point of view. Parking is also difficult in this part of the North Loop, so plan for a ramp, valet, or extra time and money. I would not return for happy hour, dinner, a hosted meal, or a special occasion.

Lots of accoutrements, super tasty. The sidecar was great and so was the Benedictine Manhattan cocktail. Strong but well balanced. We were greeted with a warm and thoughtful welcome, esp considering what's happening in our city rn. Staff were friendly and service was prompt. Nice, upscale ambiance and decor. It makes for a great after work happy hour downtown or a great spot for a more formal date night. Located inside the Indigo hotel. Plenty of on street metered parking on surrounding blocks. Will be back.
