And that's why it's been five weeks and I'm just getting around to this. Because I don't know what to tell you except that I think this is the best pizza I've had. My mother is from New Haven and moved to Boston, so I grew up with the original location of Regina's held up as the platonic ideal of pizza--though with New England Greek style ("House of...") pizza as my personal favorite style, because that's how pizza works, right, what you think is best is all about what you grew up with. Except this isn't the pizza I grew up with. The crust is puffy at the edges and as flavorful as a good breadstick--"House of..." crusts are not exactly renowned. It's not Regina's pizza either, and it's not Frank Pepe's. It's its own thing. It's a crust that's a pleasure to eat, but at the same time, it doesn't turn the pizza into "great bread, plus toppings." The toppings are high quality and well thought out. The squash blossom pizza, I'm still getting over it--I kept tasting something that I couldn't connect to anything on the ingredients list, and I'm willing to believe it was just some magical emergent property, some Voltron that assembled itself from the toppings. I don't know what to tell you. I've had pizza in a lot of cities. I can add an "outside of New York City" to my first sentence if it makes it sound saner, but ... Came here for dinner on a Saturday afternoon and its even better than the first time. Don't want to take credit for it but it looks like they opened up seating at the bar and moved the cashier station to another location. This place has a lot of potential. The location is prime in Central Sq and very accessible both by T and car as they have a back lot where you can park. The ambience of the place is upscale but not the overly pretentious type. Service is good as well as the waiters and waitresses are very attentive and quick to your needs. Unfortunately, this restaurant falls short on its food. Despite the high price tags on these pizzas, they do not deliver on the palate. My partner and I got a margarita and shrimp pizzas. The pizzas were very "soupy" and they could not hold their shapes. As for the cheese on the pizzas, they seemed to have already congealed instead of being hot and stringy. I will say the crust definitely was the highlight of the pizzas. Overall, I think with time and some consistency, this place can become a pizza staple in Cambridge. read more

OK, new pizza place, a few mins from home, semi-fancy, outdoor seating, and packed? Sold! So I tried this place. Got two pizzas, mushroom with chicken added as an extra topping, and the spicy honey chicken. I thought two pizzas would be a lot for two people. Negative. These pizzas are small though the box is not. Did they come with nice creamy fragrant cheese? Negative also. Was the chicken topping succulent, fresh, flavorful? Nope. But was the spicy honey chicken good? Yes, but a bit inconsistent: some parts were spicy AF, some were bland. Why? May need Dirac's return to explain. The place itself (the inside) is smaaaalll, crowded, and on a Friday somewhat chaotic. Understandable. Anyway, nothing to write home about. Si Cara strikes a perfect blend of casual/chic with a great ambiance and well-decorated / laid out space. The staff are friendly and inviting, and I loved being able to see the giant pizza oven. The pizza itself was absolutely fantastic. Cooked in a Canotto (or 'dinghy') style, each pizza has a thin bottom with toppings and a large / inflated crust. The restaurant also provides a garlic-infused olive oil to dip the crust in, so as not to let anything go to waste! Both pizzas were ordered were incredible -- the margherita was a classic done to perfection, and the pork sausage was a great melding of flavors and textures (cauliflower on pizza !). Came here three times in the span of two weeks because how obsessed I was with their pizzas and eager to try all the flavors. So far I've had asparagus, mushroom, eggplant, corn, pepperoni and pineapple, and my favs are the two I expected to like the least-corn and asparagus. Popped in here for a quick dinner during a work trip. Ordered the cucumber salad to start and the squash pizza, both incredibly delicious. The melon with the cucumber and yogurt really went together nicely, making it a refreshing start to the meal. The pizza ingredients really worked well together too. Apparently we tried all the new menu items like the Miso Spicy Ramen Pizza, the daily special which was Dates, garlic sauce, balsamic, and prosciutto (aka a fantastic sweet and salty pizza), and the fried dough! We went for my friend's birthday and they gave us a nice dessert. It wasn't my favorite, but that's only because I don't like lemon. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate and the servers were nice. The host was nice. I went here on a Saturday afternoon parking is not too bad on the side street. It is also conveniently located next to a train station if you want to use public transportation. I ordered the pepperoni pizza and it actually tasted pretty good. My only complaint is the bottom of the pizza is a little burnt. Si Cara is one of Cambridge's new restaurants opening up at the edge of Central Square, in an area that's been rejuvenated over the last few years with a boom of new restaurants opening up. It also happens to be one of - if not the only - pizza spot to dish out Canotto-style pizza, which is a puffier, airier version of Neapolitan pizza. The restaurant was buzzing when we talked in around 9PM on a Saturday and we sat at the bar which was a bit less crowded than the dining room. The bartend was friendly, and awesome and we promptly had our drinks and order in. To start we had the white bean dip ($8) which came with broken up potato chips. The dip itself was pretty good and the drizzle of balsamic and the rosemary on top were a nice touch. It was a tad thin which made eating it a bit challenging to eat on the tiny pieces of chips but, overall, it was a pretty creative twist on an otherwise relatively banal dish. Then we proceeded to order two different pizzas from the dinner menu, and, after a little deliberation, when with the mushroom pizza ($20) and the burrata pizza ($21). The mushroom pizza came out bone-dry and almost burnt. It featured a mysterious mix of mushrooms on it but would have greatly benefited from having a drizzle of oil on top. It was just so damn dry. The burrata one, however, was the complete opposite; maybe it was the spinach that leached out some of its water but it was decent. The speck felt non-existent however. I didn't see a single morsel of it on there and couldn't taste it, and the black pepper on there was on the more aggressive side. The dough was on the doughier side of things. Overall, I was honestly expecting slightly better pizza, especially when you compare this spot to Jinny's in Newton or Gran Gusto in Cambridge, which are both lightyears better. But Si Cara is new and probably still finding their groove so I'll be returning in the future to see how things evolve, and if they've settled in. The staff was friendly, the ambiance is nice, and they have a nice selection of natural wines to boot so lots of things are in place for them to succeed, and I'm rooting for them. read more

Located on Mass Ave, Si Cara is a great place to stop by for pizza. I came here on a weekday afternoon with a friend for lunch. They have you order at the register and then you can sit where ever you would like and they'll bring your food out. I ordered the mushroom pizza (~13in slightly larger than a personal sized pizza) while my friend ordered the garlic bread and a slice of cheese. They have all your pizza topping extras from cheese, red pepper flakes, to olive oil to dip your bread in. This is probably the only pizza place where I have to say the crust of the pizza is the best part. It's soft, fluffy, and super chewy. The mushrooms were good, but I wasn't too sold on the sauce they had on this pizza. My friend really enjoyed her garlic bread which looked like the same dough as the pizza crust was made from. On the other hand, the cheese pizza was square shaped, presumably made with a different dough which wasn't worth getting. We had to move our table halfway through eating because there were too many flies that were attacking out food and table, so I wouldn't recommend sitting near the back close to the exit. Overall, get the garlic bread if you don't want a whole pizza and skip the slices. read more

The service was great, our food came out fast. the portions for the appetizers were smaller so we could share a few between the two of us. The pizzas were 4 pretty big slices for each. Would really give it 3.5/5 but we rounded up. Here is what we ordered. White bean dip: fantastic!! The home made chips were great and we both loved it. Fried dough: super tasty, and the sauce/black garlic was awesome. Garlic bread: wasn't the biggest fan. It was drowning in butter and we couldn't really eat it. Eggplant pizza: the bottom was burnt leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. The "crispy" eggplant was also soggy. After I told the server he was quick to switch it out with a different option, so I went with a margarita Margarita: the pizza was great this time around and I didn't have a single complaint. Sauce and cheese were yummy with a light, crispy crust. It's a little expensive (though it's also in Central Square) but this was the best pizza I've had in a while! Beautiful crust with just the right amount of thickness and great combinations of toppings! My friend and I also split the Brussel sprout salad, which was delicious as well. Would highly recommend this new addition to the Cambridge pizza scene as a venue to hang out with friends maybe before a night out/event. I really appreciated the atmosphere and the attentive, friendly staff. My pepperoni pizza left a lot to be desired. Yes, the crust was fluffy and delicious...but it also makes up more than half of the total surface area of the pie. The toppings and sauce are concentrated in a small area in the middle, and you get maybe 3 bites of that per slice before you're into the crust. On top of that, the dough under the toppings is extremely thin, lacking structural integrity to the point where all the toppings fell off on 3 out of the 4 slices. I ordered pizza, not a loaf of bread -- as tasty as the crust was. The toppings and combinations are exciting, but if you only get a couple of bites of them per slice, what's the point? We're talking $22 for a pizza that barely even filled me up. Seriously - I was tempted by the smell of McDonald's on my walk home. On top of that, the beer menu is seriously lacking for a place that fashions itself to be a bar. How is there not a single beer from Boston, let alone Cambridge? As others have noted, the only non-alcoholic beverage option is water. The space was promising enough that I'm willing to come back in a few months and see if they've improved. Making the crust under the toppings just a little thicker would go a long way - also consider offering a larger size for people who are willing to pay more for a bigger center section. But based on my initial experience, this doesn't rank above A4 or Source for that upscale personal pizza fix. And to be honest, most of the time I'll probably be good with takeout from ABC or Bertucci's - better value, more flavorful bites, and they always leave me feeling stuffed with extra for lunch the next day. read more

This is easily in our top 5 favorite pizza places outside of Italy! We ordered way too much food, but everything was delicious. My husband got the meatballs, which were somewhat untraditional tasting (although the description said basil and tomato). The Margherita pizza has sweet cherry tomatoes, a super thin inner crust, and the chewiest, most flavorful outer crust. The spanikopita pizza is perfection! Servers were very friendly too. I've also gone several times for lunch- the broccoli lemon pan pizza is awesome, and they used to have a sunchoke pizza I loved! Came here for a rezzie for 8 people on Thursday. Overall very happy with the food and service. After our table was not ready for ~45 mins. we were seated outside on a gorgeous 70 degree night in Boston in October. We did not have a full blown server but they allowed us to order inside @ the bar and just sit outside. The pizza was good - the eggplant one, squash one, and the shrimp one were all very good (and lots of garlic on the shrimp one!). Pizza has super thick crust but the actual pizza isn't too bready. I would probably not come back just b/c the vibe isn't as good as SOURCE in Harvard Sq. or Pinnochio's in Cambridge but... it's a good addition to Central Square and the music was really good.
