Pretty awesome bold flavors in all the dishes. Really emphasis the sour and acidic side. The different spreads and sauces were quite good. Favorite was the labneh and frena. Sucker for good bread.
Absolutely delicious food. Some of the most flavourful and juicy chicken I've ever tasted. Definitely go with friends to try as many dishes as possible! You'll need a reservation but even a late seating is totally worth it.
I'm happy I finally got to check this place out. It's been on my list for awhile. I had a later reservation and was seated within 5 minutes of checking in. My friend and I were seated at the counter. My friend and I got: - passionfruit spritz - pita - frena: this one was so good - labneh: I loved the strawberry, it was sweet - matbucha: this was good too but I prefer the labneh - crisp squash blossoms: these were crunchy and filled but I preferred the grilled asparagus - grilled asparagus: this was my favorite! - strawberry froyo: this was refreshing and good amount of strawberry! The food came out very first and service was great. I loved how sitting at the counter allowed us to watch our food being made in front of us.
**vegetarian review** I walked past this place at 9.30pm on Monday and it was super busy. It took 20 mins to get a table (I was told 45 mins) so that wasn't too bad. We sat inside where the music is kinda loud, outdoor seating seemed nicer. We got the bread - ferna, eggplant dip, fried squash blossom and broccoli The bread and eggplant were easily the highlight. The broccoli dish was decent too. The squash however wasn't the best. It batter was probably not the best combination for squash as it got super stiff/hard and had honey drizzle that made it hard to eat. It had muted flavour compared to the eggplant which was bang on. Overall good food though.
Made a reservation but it wasn't crowded on a late Thursday night. Host was incredibly welcoming and kind because we were a bit late. Server told us we needed to get going and was helpful in getting us decided. Ambience was romantic, urban, and lively. We sat outside and the NYSA were compassionate and diligent about getting a houseless person to linger elsewhere. We love Mamdani! Anyway, the food was exquisite. Flavorful, diverse, tasty and new to us. Our drinks were strong and plentiful. I highly recommend the lamb, apricots, and the pickles if you love pickled veggies, which I do. Enjoy!
As someone who's allergic to gluten LOL, this was 1000% worth it. Ordered the Frena w labneh -- one of the best bread I've had in my life, and the spread was amazing. Also got the steak shish kabob -- very juicy, but kind of hard to eat once it cools down. Also got the lamb skewer -- this is where I started to feel the gluten kick in, so I wasn't feeling 100%, but it was so yummy still! Probably my second fave dish here besides the frena. Lastly, ordered the Tahini soft serve -- the ice cream and sorbet mix was very interesting, but then it ended up working very well together! It wasn't the most pleasant thing to eat though cuz it had like kettle/nuts that get stuck in your teeth unfortunately. Highly recommend this place! Glad we got to try it!

The service here was very friendly and welcoming! Our server in particular was awesome especially given how busy this place was even on a Tuesday night. The vibe here is fun with great music, everyone including the employees seemed to be in a good mood. We ordered a variety of plates to share and started out with the labneh dip and bread. I really like labneh and the strawberries and sumac gave this a sweet and tangy flavor. We also ordered the roasted beet, chicken, fish in a cage and jeweled basmati rice. The main flavors that permeated all of the food was garlic and salt. I'm a fan of garlic so I didn't mind but some of the dishes especially the caged fish were extremely salty. We were all a big fan of the Paesi turkey house wine, it paired well with the food. Surprisingly my favorite dish was the rice. The rice was so flavorful and fluffy, I probably could eat a whole pot on my own. All of the dishes were beautifully plated and visually appealing. We ended the meal with the soft serve ice cream. I was not blown away as much as my friend but the food was really good and the lively atmosphere made it a very fun dinner experience.
Loved the atmosphere here. Lively, upbeat, upscale yet relaxed and casual all at the same time. Hip hop and RnB playing so the noise level is a little higher than some other restaurants. Staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and inventive and step away from traditional middle eastern cuisine. The Frena bread was delicious, the labneh was the perfect dip. If you can get the cherries while you are there, they are definitely worth trying. Everything I tasted was very good and I was pleased with amount of vegetarian options. Will definitely return to this gem!
Such a delicious evening! Walked over on a Thursday evening without a reservation just to see if we could get on a list or if they had any cancellations and we lucked out! They had 2 seats ready to go at the bar. The hosts were super nice and sat us down and Joseph immediately came to get us started. (Super good looking guy, btw) We ordered the dipping bread with a dip that we asked to be surprised with. It was the green one and it was SO tasty!! I got a cocktail, but FYI, there's no liquor, only wine & beer. So my cocktail was made with sparkling wine. The restaurant has a fun and lively atmosphere. It feels very much like THE place to be.
Eating at Shukette is a monthly pleasure that I look forward to with anticipation. The cuisine is top notch and looking at the menu at home is like picking the daisy. Labne? Frena? Wings? Next week is my monthly visit and one that I cherish.
We chose Shukette for our 14th wedding anniversary dinner - looking for something fun, delicious, and maybe a little splurgy.* Our server, who's name I can't remember, was outstanding. In general, the service was far above expectations for a "fun" restaurant. I dropped my napkin twice, and he was there to scoop it up and replace. My wife dropped her fork - same thing. Our extra plates were picked up quickly. Water carafe was filled regularly. We largely went with our server's recommendations for food, after starting with a Tangier drink for my wife and the heaviest red wine available for me - from Lebanon. We both thought the drinks were delicious and paired well with the food. For dips, we chose the Labneh and Smoked Arctic Char with Frena bread. Labneh and bread - some of the best things we have ever eaten. (I'd get the char again, because fish feels healthy.) When we finished the bread, server recommended we try the Lafa bread. Also fantastic, but I would choose 2 Frenas next time. For The Shuk category, we chose Glazed Sweet Potatoes (CAN'T MISS), Roasted Beets (would order again), Shrimp A La Plancha (wouldn't order again - tasty, but hard to eat grilled with shell on - didn't blow me away), and shawarma spiced fries. Fries were affordable and a nice "stuffer" if you had a table. Took away from the "healthy" feel of the meal for me, and weren't worth the space in my tummy that was mostly gone by that point in the meal. Went with the Joojeh chicken next, which was succulent and delicious. I would be happy to eat that again, or try the fish in a cage (which seemed like everyone ordered.) We also added Bang Bang Shata and White Harissa. The Bang Bang was insanely hot for us. We put tiny amounts on things - didn't have the heat strength to take care of much of it. The Harissa was a must if you choose the fries. We finished with The Swirl, which had a nice little candle in it with a "happy anniversary" wish from the person delivering it. Tasty, but we would choose The Mic Drop next time. *Splurgy in the sense that we tried many things - probably 2-3 more things than our stomachs were prepared to hold. Kids finished the leftover fries when we returned home. And one note about noise, since that seems to come up, we found Shukette to be as noisy as an average, lively NYC restaurant. It wasn't bothersome or too loud to hear one another. In summary, we had an amazing experience at Shukette. I'm excited to recommend it to friends and visit again sometime.
Had one of the best meals ever at Shukette. The menu is packed with bold, vibrant Middle Eastern flavors, and every dish we tried completely delivered. We started with the smoked arctic char dip, which was rich, smoky, and perfectly balanced, especially with the fresh frena bread. The broccolini di ciccio stood out with its herbed tahini, pickled shallots, and a great mix of texture and brightness. The shakshuka-style butter beans were incredibly comforting and flavorful, layered with garlic and herbs. The fish in a cage was a highlight. The whole black bass came out beautifully cooked with green charmoula, fennel, and potato, making it both impressive and deeply satisfying. We also loved the pickles, which added the perfect sharp contrast to the meal. Their signature bang bang shata hot sauce deserves a special mention. It brings real heat, but more importantly, it has the depth and complexity to match, elevating everything it touches. This was easily one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had in NYC. Every plate felt thoughtful, bold, and full of life. Can't wait to go back.
This place is really cute and has both inside and outside seating. Without a reservation, it is hard to get seating but we were lucky enough to get bar seating. The menu is very large and has something for everyone. Most of the items we had were good but this is definitely more table/tapas style. Don't know if I'd come back without a bigger group

Very good Mediterranean spot. We probably enjoyed their signature flat board more than anything and it really is worth ordering multiples of. The grilled items were pretty good, but none of them stood out as much. We sat outside, which was nice since they had heaters. The service was great and they offered good input when we asked about recommendations. Definitely book ahead of time, this place gets busy! read more

We had the BEST experience at Shukette. The ambiance was impeccable (loved the music). Service was welcoming and friendly and so generous. We sat at the counter which was absolutely perfect for watching the amazing chefs do their thing and chatting with other guests. We were given small plates of food from the chef to try that were on the house and we shared with the people next to us so everyone could try. Things we probably would've never ordered on our own, but WOW-- it was worth it when the chef said "just trust me". We tried half of the menu and each dish was better then the next. Our favorites were the dips, breads, cherries and the wings. I will be dreaming about this meal until the next time we are in NYC. I'd truly come to the city just to dine here. We had the best time and left so happy! read more
Definitely a beautiful spot to dine just make sure to make a reservation before! We were lucky enough to grab the last seating and enjoy dinner. We had to wait a bit even though we had made reservations but there was a small waiting area so it wasn't too bad. I would recommend sharing plates as everything on the menu sounds good! Our party of 4 got two plates of dip two types of bread and 3 entrees to share. The highlight had to be the Greek yogurt dish and the fluffy bread. Order the half chicken and you won't regret it! It might have been the juiciest chicken I've had to date. All the side veggies and sauce pair beautifully with the protein making for a flavorful bite! The tahini soft serve was an excellent way to end the meal! The hazelnuts and pomegranate seeds were the perfect not too sweet topping! read more
I'm late to the party on this one, but I (finally) made it to Shukette and now I understand why reservations are still so hard to get. The menu is veggie forward, so there are plenty of (delicious) options for vegetarians and vegans. To start, we ordered the Frena bread, Labneh, and Beet Tzatziki. All three were excellent - no notes. The Frena bread is so good, it really deserves it's own post. We shared the Heirloom Carrots, Glazed Sweet Potatoes, and Charred Broccoli di Ciccio as our "mains" and WOW. Shukette knows how to make you eat your veggies. The carrots and sweet potatoes are melt in your mouth delicious. The broccoli is the only dish I wouldn't order again. To finish, we had the Mic Drop Tahini Soft Serve. It's huge (translation: easy to topple over), and the perfect, subtly sweet end to the meal. This is going straight to the top of my favorites list, and I can't wait to go back. read more

I'm so glad I found this restaurant! I came for a solo dinner and thoroughly enjoyed everything I ordered. I was actually sad I couldn't eat it all myself! Everything you order will be delicious but I recommend the labneh and frena at the very least. I could have eaten just that and been happy. Fair warning: the wait is brutal. Even for just me without a reservation it was 40 minutes on a Tuesday night after 8:30pm. I was also sat outside and was freezing since the heaters didn't reach me. The food all came out quickly and the server constantly checked on me but I definitely felt rushed to eat before I froze to death or all the trains left. So be prepared to wait or make a reservation! read more
Was finally able to try this spot out and managed to get a reservation day of by the counter for a weekday dinner. Getting the counter seat was actually so much fun because you get to see the pass, the craziness of the dinner rush, and every dish made in front of you. We originally ordered the Lafa, but had to get the Frena after seeing it get ordered so often and it's literally the best bread ever - sooo fluffy and crispy on the bottom. Calamari dish was a miss for me, but my friend liked it. For entree, we got fish in a cage and chicken. The chicken was oh so moist and something I'd come back for (+ the frena). Fish in a cage came with zhoug and their hot sauce, the latter being my favorite I had to order another one. The fish was a bit overcooked and not flaky in texture, but flavor wise was good. For those debating if "enclosed patio" would be comfortable in the cold, it's def cramped in terms of seating, but it's more quiet than inside the hustle and bustle of the actual restaurant and had heaters for the space. read more
Came here Valentine's weekend. The restaurant looks well decorated and has a covered patio. It was extremely hard to snag a reservation but managed to grab one for the outdoor patio. Loved that it was heated well. Service was great and our server gave great recommendations. We ordered the labneh and beet dip with the frena. Can see the hype behind the labneh and Frena; they were both amazing. The beet dip looked vibrant and was good too. We got the mushroom tempura which came with a black garlic salt, crispy and tasty but very salty. The cauliflower could've been crispier but loved the acoutrements it came with; the tahini, hazelnut and cherries were so good! We also ordered the citrus and floral cocktails. They were both very similar and not too special. Would skip the cocktails and focus on the food if we returned! read more

When I die, bury me at Shukette. Another divine meal with warm hospitality and a server who seemed to be able to read my mind and anticipate my every desire. The thing with Shukette, the menu changes frequently but you hardly have time to mourn your previous favorite before you become excited about your new favorite dish! ROASTED CAULIFLOWER tahini, medjool date, pistachio charmoula $18 - favorite dish of the night! GRILLED HEIRLOOM PEPPERS jimmy nardello, kalamata olive, roasted garlic, dill $18 GARLIC + GINGER RICE basmati rice, crispy garlic, cilantro, lime $12- light, fresh, flavorful EGYPTIAN SPICED GRILLED WINGS cumin, coriander, ginger, white harissa, herbs $20- delicious but messy- better leftover reheated in airfryer FRENA moroccan bread, garlic, oregano $12 - amazing, had 2. Made seperately - very Good for individuals concerned abt cross contamination GRASS-FED STEAK SHISH KEBAB carrot harissa, preserved lemon, Moroccan cured olives- ok not the best meat i've had at Shukette - carrots outshined the steak which was a bit tough, the lamb with pistachio and fig I had at Shukette a few weeks ago was MUCH better and I usually prefer steak to lamb. Still the carrots in this dish were divine NOT YOUR AVERAGE HUMMUS marinated chickpeas, bang bang shala $12- its great hummus Not pictured: SHUKETTE PICKLES turnip, kohlrabi, cauliflower, green chili $8 - this is a must order every visit! We had a reservation and were seated outside right in the front. I knew there could be a problem when we sat down and there were purple blankets on the chairs. Soft blankets, but still, I was worried Our menus flew away so I went inside and asked if we could sit somewhere else. They were able to sit us on the side of the restaurant outside under a plastic enclosure. Sitting down I was a little bit worried because the chairs at the table seemed really rickety until I met Juan. I forgot all about the rickety chairs and tables once Juan and the food entered my life. Juan is a bright shiny star so happy self friendly so warm and he told us everything to order. He didn't lead us astray once and we love that in a waiter. This time during our our New York visit we were not only discussing our food we are also our waiters. As the hummus was being served, I was telling my table that I don't eat hummus anymore. I found a reason to go back on that here. A must order would be the very first bread in the bread slices for handstands down. So I must've said that it was my birthday when I made the reservation which my birthday is this month and our dessert came with a candle and Juan sang happy birthday to me. It was so freaking cute. I was with two non-dessert eaters but they dove in and I seriously got no more than 1/3rd of it, not one slurp bite or morsel more. I wanted to order another. The only chains I'd make is that I wish there were more bathrooms. I felt bad for the waitstaff peeking at the line and choosing not to stand in it. I hear the chef is up for a James Beard award and the menu is changing with more veggies for the summer. I'll be back in August! read more

Moroccan bread was so fresh and good for dipping Artic char dip was balanced The steak kebab was a punch of flavor so intense in the best way Service: super quick. Lucked out and got a counter seat for 5 PM. Got there about 10 min early and to my surprise they were already open. Counter seats do have hooks to hang a coat or bag. The seats are also nailed down to the floor and can't be moved. A little hard to get on. Interesting view at counter since you're able to see all the chef action which I found fascinating Noise level is 10 on a scale of 1-10. Wait staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The star of the show seems to be The Shuk which is a large variety of small sharable plates. There's about 4 main entrees. The Moroccan bread (Frena) I had was to die from. You could smell the roasted garlic as it was being brought over. Labneh was delicious esp with strawberries which was new for me. Just a little too thick for my taste. Grass fed steak shish was amazing and they were able to prepare it rare Tahini soft serve was very interesting. My boyfriend and I visited Shukette during a December NYC trip. What a fantastic experience. Phenomenal food, great service, and immaculate vibes. I highly recommend making a reservation for this spot. We saw people waiting a long time for tables to open up. We had reservations for the chef counter, which overlooks the kitchen. It was fascinating being able to watch the flow of the kitchen, seeing how each dish is made and who owns each step of the process. Our server was friendly and attentive. He provided insightful menu recommendations throughout the meal. We started with the Frena and Labneh. Both were fantastic. I see why people come here just for the Frena. The crunch is so satisfying. The Labneh is equally craveable. That hot honey adds the perfect hint of sweetness to break through the tart base. Next we ordered a selection of dishes from The Shuk section of the menu. We got the Charred Kale, Egyptian Spiced Grilled Wings, Shawarma Spiced Fries, and Shukette Pickles. All were wonderful. As a fry snob, my favorite bites were the Shawarma Fries. Highly recommend getting either the Toum or White Harissa sauce on the side to dip - preferably both! For the finale, we shared the Fish in a Cage. This was a super moist and flavorful dish. I don't eat whole fish frequently, but they make it easy to navigate. The head comes off easily and the body has already been filleted for you. There were a couple small bones throughout, so eat with caution. For dessert we shared The Swirl. I expected it to be very sweet, but it definitely leans more tart. Combined with the nuttiness of the tahini, you get a super craveable dessert which doesn't taste like it's packed full of sugar. Shukette screams fun date night or night out with friends. The bustling atmosphere, the upbeat music, the young crowd. If you're looking for quiet & romantic - this isn't it. Highly recommend this place. Let's get this out of the way...GO HERE! Go here now! Make the resy and get it done. The food is amazing, the service is pleasant and attentive even though it was packed inside, our waiter Jack felt like he was only meant for our table and in complete service to us. We loved it! The ambiance felt like New York in the summertime if you know what that feels like it just doesn't miss! As appetizers we had the bread and the labenah, then brightened it up with the pea party. I can safely say that I had the best meal of 2025 here last night for my Birthday. Everything we ordered was beautifully plated, quickly made, and an absolute flavor bomb that left me making this face after every single bite: 8-O We ordered the frena bread, arctic char spread, and the labneh spread topped with pomegranate syrup. We also got the halloumi and the joojeh chicken. Everything was remarkable. The labneh spread was our favorite bite but--we'd order everything all over again. Seriously mad we didn't book another reservation upon leaving because ... it's that good! Oh, and the service--Carlos our waiter was a dream. Not only was he full of energy but you can tell he genuinely loves the food himself. The ambience was warm, eclectic and inviting and the playlist played 90s/2000s R&B/Hip Hop all night, which as a millennial, I adored. Can't wait to come back! read more

I love this restaurant - it's a go to when I have friends visiting! Definitely recommend making a reservation if you're going on the weekend and note that it is difficult to sit parties larger than 4 (unless previously reserved). They do have an outdoor area that is enclosed and heated in the winter. The dips and shuk are perfectly shareable - my favorite dips are the labneh and smoked arctic char, and my favorite shuks are the cauliflower, halloumi, and wings. They change the menu up pretty frequently, but a few of those are staples. For main sharing dish, I usually rotate between the fish and the chicken - both are good, I might like the chicken a little better. Overall, the service here is great and all the food is so delicious. Would recommend! read more
This place was great! Service was the most outstanding part of the experience honestly. They were kind, very fast and attentive, and refilled the water like nobody's business. We were seated in the outdoor heated patio area, which was honestly very nice and warm. It was a lot quieter than the main area, which we appreciated. Food was deeeelish. Those dips and breads were the star of the show, especially the labneh, parsnip, and the frena was absolutely to die for. We ended up getting two because it was sooo good. Loved the chicken wings, fall salad, and steak kebab. Everything was great! Would absolutely recommend this place and hope to return. read more

The food and service were very nice! The serves took time to explain the menu and also had great recommendations. The inside was also not too loud and had a great ambiance for friends to catch up or go on a date. Ordered the frena bread and labneh to start (10/10 would come back just for the bread) Then got the grilled broccolini, kotlet (meatball), and shrimp alla plancha. Tbh I can do without these tapas. For the entree, we got the fish in a cage which was very good! I would reorder this dish again for sure. After sharing the tapas from meatier I thought I'd be too full but it was too good and ended up eating it all. Ended with the swirl soft serve!! The pomegranate part was veryyyy tart so def recommend getting the swirl. read more
First night in New York started with a bang. So glad they are open late because my flight came in late. My friend and I walked here to grab dinner for myself and she got a few light bites. The hosts immediately sat us & our server was super helpful and attentive. The environment was noisy but not too loud that you couldn't hear people next to you. We got the labneh, lafa, hummus, lamb kebab & basmati rice. I had never had lafa before and it's definitely a staple- something you should always order when you come here. The bread was soft, well sliced and very garlicky.The hummus was creamy and I loved the chickpeas in it. My friend ate the labneh, I had a little bite but I am lactose intolerant. I liked how fresh it was. I dipped the juicy lamb skewers into the hummus and ate it with the rice and it was super filling and worth it. Compared to the other restaurants I had later that week, Shukette was definitely top place. read more

We arrived at 4.30pm and waited outside for a walk-in table, since I wasn't' able to get a table through Resy, we were the second couple in line. At 5pm, I gave them my mobile number and at 5.15pm we were being seated at the counter. Easy peasy! We ordered a bottle of Pellegrino and two Persian Blue lagers. We were told that the food would arrive as it is made, and not in the order it was ordered. This is what we ordered: DIPS: Not Your Average Hummus (good) and Spring Pea Dip (omg amazing) BREADS: Frana (omg amazing) and Lafa (good) THE SHUK: Kotlet (good) and Shrimp Alla Plancha (omg amazing) AH HA'ESH: Fish in a Cage (omg amazing) and Lamb Kebab (good) DESSERT: The Swirl - tahini soft serve and pomegranate sorbet swirl (good) Our server, Charlotte, was just perfect. We also got to meet the manager, Jose, and he was so friendly! Chef Ayesha was busy busy busy (!) and we loved sitting at the counter and seeing all the cooks WORK! The ambiance was GREAT and the music? 90s hip hop/pop playlist of my dreams! I can't wait to come back and try a few new things, and have the fish again. I loved this place! read more

It's really awesome. Get to enjoy them prepping the dishes right in front of you. When we went, the chef actually suggested what we should order based on what we were liking.
