Excellent middle eastern brunch. Restaurant is very small and compact with very little room to move around. We sat outside where there was less room between tables. Food was excellent. We ordered the French toast, the middle eastern breakfast, and the Jerusalem breakfast? Their hummus, baba ganoush, labneh, and tzatziki was very delicious. Eggs cooked to perfection. Their freshly squeezed orange juice was something else. We joked about buying a gallon of it to take home. Service was painfully slow and unapologetic. We get it. Side note- The menu online has slightly different descriptions than what we had, so perhaps it changes a bit seasonally. I was at this Israeli restaurant a few months back with two others, having also gone to their more casual Miriam Street Food location in Brooklyn before. As usual with those two, we overordered, leaving us with leftovers, with the server happily obliging. I don't think I had anything to drink besides maybe a glass of wine, but I might be mistaken (I definitely didn't have a cocktail.) We started with a handful of appetizers and a salad. The Hummus for $16, with tadka-spiced wild mushrooms, harissa, and pita, was pretty solid. There were plenty of mushrooms, and the hummus had a good texture, being slightly thick but not too much so, and the pita was standard. The harissa on the side of the plate was a unique touch, adding some spiciness if desired, and reminded me a bit of having shifka or another type of spicy pickle with hummus or other dips. It was good overall, though I think the hummus is a bit better quality at a few other spots on the UWS. The Eggplant for $15, with tomato confit, melted feta, halloumi, mozzarella, and green tahini, was more unique. The dish was quite rich overall, and a bit salty, and the eggplant itself had a soft texture and was well-roasted. I would recommend it as a mezze, but only for sharing, as I think it will get a bit too rich eventually. The Halloumi Salad, for $23, with baby arugula, grilled artichoke, walnuts, string beans, cremini mushrooms, and walnut vinaigrette, was pretty good. The cheese was nice along with the mix of vegetables, but I found the dish overall a bit too sour and salty between the vinaigrette and the cheese. I think a slightly sweeter dressing would be more preferable. I think others might also find it a bit wet for a salad, but I didn't mind. My main is the Steak Levant, for $34, which is listed online now with tri-tip steak, Swiss chard, white and fava bean stew, root vegetable purée, and Jerusalem artichoke chips. Back then, or now, if the menu wasn't updated, it was simply served with roasted tomatoes and shoestring fries. The steak was pretty solid and quite tender, and while it lacked a bit of salt, the fries helped. The fries themselves were a mix of textures, with some pretty crispy and some a bit too soggy, though that was perhaps because some were in the meat or tomato juice. It was pretty good overall, though a bit one-note with a sauce likely helping with the fries. Another person got the Lamb Shawarma Terracotta, for the same price with majadra rice, slow-roasted tomato, harissa, yogurt sauce, and almonds. I tried a bit of this, and it reminded me of a better version of the same dish at either Acadia or Barbounia. At those spots, the yogurt is a bit too strong, and the meat just isn't as good as it is less flavored. For this spot, the lamb was cooked more properly, and the whole dish had a bit more balance with the harissa adding a nice extra kick of spice. This was good, and I preferred it over my main. I believe the other person got the same steak as I. We shared a dessert, which was easily the weakest thing we had. This was the Rose Babka for $15, served with vanilla ice cream. I expected it to have a rosewater flavor, given that the spot is Israeli, but in fact, the babka just really resembled one. I wouldn't have minded if the flavor was good, but the babka itself was very dry, and even though it looked like there was a good amount of chocolate, it was pretty lightly flavored. Outside of the alright ice cream, this was honestly terrible and the weakest dessert of any similar Levant spot in the area, with all three of us not wanting to finish it. Came in here today for a last minute brunch with my friend and we had the best meal! We were seated right away without a reservation. I had an iced cappuccino and the latke benedict. Both were fantastic and the service was very quick. I will be DREAMING of this benedict. Having the latke instead of an english muffin just takes it to a whole nother level. I came here again for my second visit recently and just think this is the perfect place for a snack and afternoon glass of wine. My first visit here was for breakfast and it was good, but nothing too special. I went with an egg dish that was cooked well, but not super memorable. The thing I had remembered about this place was the fantastic attentive service and the wonderful area it was in. I returned again this week for lunch and was so impressed with my falafel and hummus dish. Not only did the falafel arrive warm and perfectly cooked but the hummus was delicious. The pita was not super special but once again, service was memorable and the interior decor is simple but I loved the plants and how fresh it felt inside. Miriam continues to delight. Bf and I dined here for dinner last week. We did not have a dinner reservation but were able to sit at the bar. Service was phenomenal. We started off with a Hummus to share- great. BF liked the olives accompaniment. I almost always order their chicken schnitzel- it is perfectly cooked, a generous portion, arrives hot and the salad, beets, and mashed potatoes are great as well. I never eat the lemon sauce as it really is flavorful enough without it. This dish is a large portion and can be shared between 2 people or leftovers can be brought home. My BF had the Chicken Shwarma this visit- and we traded bites. This dish was also amazing, nice cook and flavor to the chicken, we both really really loved the spinach that was underneath the chicken (not pictured).. Pleasant neighborhood Mediterranean restaurant. We dropped in for dinner in the enclosed patio on a whim. The space is cozy, the service is nice, and they accommodated us and our toddler without a reservation. Lamb tagine: my wife decided on this entree early, and it was warming, tender, flavorful, and served with nice dipping sauces. I had brunch at Miriam today, and we had an okay time. What was good: the food. Their brunch menu is really incredible, and I struggled over what to order. I went with the Burekas Breakfast (a cheese and herb bureka with hard-boiled eggs, crushed tomato, zhug, Syrian olives, pickles, and tahini. I really enjoyed the dish - the zhug was so spicy and went great with the hard-boiled eggs and bureka. The bureka itself was great - flaky with a well-seasoned cheese and herb mix. My husband got the Malawach pancake (filled with fontina and cheddar cheeses and served with hard-boiled eggs, pickles, tahini, crushed tomatoes, and zhug). He enjoyed it, but I personally thought the malawach needed more of a sear in the pan (it was a little blond) and that the cheeses inside the malawach "quesadilla" were a little bland - I would have enjoyed a different cheese. We also got their muhammara (one of my favorite dips). It was a delicious version, but I didn't think they gave us enough bread to enjoy it with. So what was the problem? I thought the service wasn't good at all, unfortunately. Our waitress took order and then we pretty much never saw her again. I - as politely as possible - waved her over to ask her if we could get our menu back to see the brunch cocktails (we had had coffees to start). She brought the menu over but then never came back. And I mean never. She never came back to ask if we did want to order a brunch cocktail or to ask if we needed anything else (like more bread for the muhammara) or to bring us the bill. I very politely asked another server if he could bring us the check, which he did. We didn't en up ordering a brunch cocktail or asking for more bread for the muhammara, so we sadly wasted some. They were a little busy with the brunch rush - which I totally understand - but our waitress just pretty much ignored us after we ordered (I saw her at other tables but could never get her attention). The service kind of soured experience for us. The restaurant is beautiful - especially for brunch. It's bright and comfortable and beautiful. And Miriam's menu is great (they really made it hard for me to choose what to order). And the food that we tried was very good. But the service tainted our first experience at Miriam, and I'm not sure I would go out of my way to go back. read more

I'm a longtime fan of the Park Slope loc (though have only been for lunch) and recently booked this one for dinner before a show at the Beacon nearby. My boyfriend and I shared: + Dipping plate with labneh, eggplant, butterbeans + Shuk salad + Sticky lamb spare ribs + Crispy shrimp kataifi + Caramel date cake + subbed pistachio ice cream The shrimp and date cake were my favorite bites. Had brunch here with friends as this was the best option we could think of for this neighborhood. It's a nicer space than the Park Slope location but I noticed that certain items in the menu are more expensive here than in Park Slope. The food is decent but given the price point and the fact that the menu isn't the most exciting, I'm not sure I'll be back again. Also, our friends have an infant and they made a comment about the restrooms not having a changing table which made it a challenge. I was surprised given it's located in the UWS and there are certainly lots of families with small children here. read more

We came here on a Friday night and it did not disappoint. They did tell us the story wait is 45 minutes but it actually took 1:15min and our table still wasn't ready. They said they would seat us until the next reservation arrived, we agreed. Salad was great and refreshing, loved the olives and feta. The lamb shawarma had raisins with lentils and rice I believe, very similar to a common Persian dish in flavor so it hit close to home.!The bread baked on top was perfect. Schnitzel was crispy and impressively good (schnitzel snob here). Either we were really hungry or the food was just that amazing but we would highly recommend. I used to go to Miriam in Brooklyn for brunch years ago and came to UWS location for late brunch after visiting museum of natural history with kids. First, the service was welcoming and attentive and they were kind to the children and had coloring sheets and crayons. Most importantly, the food was absolutely amazing. The menu is not extensive but all dishes are thoughtfully designed. We ordered a side of Israeli chopped salad to start. Kids shared the challah french toast with berries, which was well done and not super sweet. For adults, we got the shawarma dish in s a pot with rice. Great presentation and flavor. One of the best meals I have had in NYC. The ambiance is like... perfect. Classy, sophisticated, not pretentious. The lighting and design of the restaurant is really well done. And the wait staff was friendly, unobtrusive, and knowledgeable about the menu. My friend and I split the hummus, butternut squash and salmon cake appetizers, short rib entree, and the salted caramel chocolate cake dessert. The stars of the show in my opinion were the butternut squash with labneh (drool) and the dessert. The butternut squash had the perfect amount of spice and the yogurt sauce was light and tangy and delicious. I've been coming to Miriam for years, both the Park Slope and Upper West Side locations, and I can confidently say it's one of the best Mediterranean restaurants l've ever been to. Every single dish is consistently impeccable, with thoughtful flavors and perfect execution. We've tried almost every appetizer on the menu, and they never miss. The falafel is crispy on the outside, beautifully green and soft on the inside, served with a creamy tahini sauce and a tomato purée that ties everything together. The cracker it sits on adds the perfect texture contrast. The pita is warm and fluffy, super satisfying. The hummus, while decent, isn't the star of the show it's pretty standard and doesn't stand out. But the Brussels sprouts are life-changing. Genuinely the best Brussels sprouts l've ever had. They're crispy, perfectly spiced possibly with chili flakes and have this tangy balance of acidity, maybe from vinegar or wine. Every time I try to recreate them at home, I fall short. If you go, please don't skip them. The salads are always vibrant and fresh, packed with herbs and citrusy notes that keep them light and flavorful. As for mains, I always go for the schnitzel. The chicken is perfectly fried with a crispy coating, and it's served with the creamiest mashed potatoes that practically melt in your mouth. I've also gotten the lamb Shawarma, which is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. This place should definitely be on your list of restaurants. read more

I can VERY CONFIDENTLY say this was some of the best food I have had in a while. Everything about this experience was something I will now use as the measuring stick for what 5 stars is. My friend and I came here on a Tuesday night and it was not super busy - we got sat immediately. We chose to sit outside since it's warm for November. The lights in the little front enclosed patio area are so cute. We started by splitting a half carafe of Pinot Noir - perfect for the two of us. Then we got the hummus... I think I actually almost fell out of my chair. I am not kidding this has to be the best hummus I have ever evvvvveeerrrrr had. It was magic. On the menu the pita is called "fluffy pita" and rightfully so. Also on the menu we saw "Grilled Plant-Based Steak" - as a vegetarian I am always drawn to the plant-based options (naturally) but was wowed for a moment because I have never seen a vegan steak option. Impossible burgers, yes... but vegan steak? This is new. So my friend and I were talking about it, and talking about it loudly it seems as all of a sudden the chef comes up and strikes up conversation about it. It's something he is very confident we will like, and he also tells us another special he's working on now. The chef's name is Alon - he is incredible and so fun to talk to. Some time passes and he drops off one of the specials for us to try, a gesture we were so thankful for. It is an absolutely unbelievable butternut squash in labneh. I will dream of it forever. So then we get the "steak." Oh my GOD. I have not had steak in about 8 years and I cannot even begin to tell you how insane this was. You should be RUNNNNINNNGGG to Miriam right now as you read this to get this plant-based steak for yourself. I want every single person I have ever known to try this. I will include a photo of the inside of it too, you can see it has the consistency and graining of a short rib or a real piece of steak. Another review for Miriam's. This restaurant has great food! I definitely prefer brunch to dinner. After this dinner we realized it might be better to order small plates than just entrees. It'll probably be a pricy meal either way. Our dinner got 2 with a soup, lemonade and 2 entrees was $100 + tip. The entrees are on the pricier side for me but they are huge. You can easily get two meals from them! I again had the lamb shawarma. Not often I get lamb. Nothing spicy in it this time. The soup of the day $15 was spinach potato. It wasn't heavy from the potatoes. It was still very hot by the time it got to the table, which made my dad very happy! The raspberry lemonade I ordered was very refreshing $8. I ordered this instead of a mocktail since they cost $15. Now I've got to get back for brunch again sometime soon! read more

What a lovely Saturday brunch experience! Made a reservation at Miriam (not required, but highly recommended) my boyfriend and I arrived at Miriam and we were sat immediately. The server arrived very quickly and we were greeted warmly and offered a gorgeous bottle of water with a mint leaf in it. We were given some time with the menu and once the server returned we had asked what her favorite dish was on the menu and she stated that it was the Jerusalem breakfast (which ultimately my boyfriend ordered). Here is what we had: - Jerusalem Breakfast (the avocado spread and labeneh were simply to die for! Highly recommend this dish!) - Malawach Quesadilla (never had a more beautiful quesadilla! I am still dreaming about it!) - Side of fries (the fries tasted like five guys!! No dipping sauce required!) The food was out of this world and I cannot wait to come back and try the dinner menu! The server seemed to be the only one working the entire inside of the restaurant, but she was still able to attend to our table without a hitch. I didn't have a reservation but there were seats at the bar. Got the chicken schnitzel and the dipping plate of three. I absolutely LOVED the super fluffy warm pita that comes with the dipping plate. The chicken schnitzel came with two types of salad and mashed potatoes. It was generously portioned. I just wasn't a fan of tht chicken. We were in NYC for our wedding anniversary and chose this place because it was close to hotel and we both admire this type of cuisine. Our reservation was honored properly,place was horribly crowded and nothing was romantic or even cozy,urban style ascetic design and tiny tables. Service was good, I asked for medium cooked salmon. It was ridiculously overcooked,but they took it back and brought out yummiest wild salmon. My salmon dish was poetically delicious,farro risotto was divine,wild mushrooms were amazingly flavorful and gave nice texture and pesto wasn't overpowering, but gave perfect fragrant taste. Salmon had crispy skin and was delicious. Star of the night was sesame bread with muhamara, with freshly baked sesame bread and addictive sweet and tangy dip. My husband enjoyed chicken schnitzel,it was juicy enough for him. For desert we got braised peach with candle and it was on the house,which was extremely nice and peach had cardamom and anise flavor,and maybe something else. Delicious choice for an early dinner before our show. The Grilled Halloumi Cheese salad was delicious. Arugula, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, walnuts and green beans tossed with a walnut vinaigrette. Topped with grilled halloumi, this is a must get. The vegan Moroccan cigars and hummus were also good starters. The hummus was so smooth and creamy. Paired well with the homemade pita. Definitely get the lamb shawarma terracotta. A best seller for a reason. Lamb shawarma cooked in a terracotta dish with Persian rice, shaved almonds and more topped with a flatbread and then cooked on the oven. We started with the mushroom hummus, which was the only dip on the app menu. It was ok. My wife had the roasted salmon over farro, and she enjoyed it. My entrée was the lamb shwarma terracotta. The presentation was very nice, and it was a generous portion. It tasted good, but kind of one-note harissa, not spicy enough, and it could've used some salt and pepper. It was also supposed to have sliced almonds in it, but I didn't see any. The server was great, very attentive. The food was probably good enough to return, but it is very noisy inside. My wife and I converse in a normal voice at the table, but other people are so loud. We were seated for nearly 1-1/2 hrs, and my head was ringing when we left. read more
