Zizi had delicious Middle Eastern food in a pleasant setting, brunch was solid. The shakshuka was full of flavor, savory with good spice giving it a nice kick. The eggs weren't as runny as I was expecting, more over medium in cook, but still a hearty meal overall. And it came with challah bread that was flaky and rich in texture; great for dipping in the shakshuka or eating on its own. The french toast was great, a layered cube filled with compote. The menu includes is a love letter to Tel Aviv, and is filled with options for vegetarians and carnivores alike. We visited on a Thursday and there was ample seating and were immediately welcomed. Initially, we planned on visiting another restaurant but were delighted Zizi didn't require a reservation. Upon entry, we felt the warmth of the staff and positive energy. The restaurant is lively and is marked by mood lighting and individual lamps on each table. Portions are generous and diners will feel they received value. Zizi is all good vibes and good food. Sometimes they're doing a bit too much, but some people are into that kind of thing. And even if you're not, maybe you need to loosen up even just a moment or two (this is mainly a reminder to myself, but if it reaches someone else that needs to hear it, all the better). Zizi serves an impressive variety of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern fare, is super vegetarian/vegan/GF-friendly, and never sacrifices flavor to accommodate preferences. A fantastic spot for a fun dinner with friends, especially if someone is celebrating a special occasion and wants some kitschy fanfare to accompany the festivities. Came here at 8pm on a Tuesday night. Though I saw plenty of reservations online day-of, the space was full and buzzing with energy. It was a beautiful night so front of the restaurant was opened to the street and some lucky diners were seated outside. We were seated halfway towards the back of the space, meaning we were encased in the noise. We managed fine, but if you or someone in your party is sensitive to noisy environments, I would look to dine elsewhere. Though we weren't drinking on this particular night, one of the servers brought us free vodka shots, which we had teeny tiny tastes of just to get a sense of them. Though both of us agreed that we are not lovers of vodka, we also agreed that whatever sweetness was added to the shot made it considerably more tolerable/enjoyable than straight vodka. Food-wise, Zizi offers quite the diverse and comprehensive menu, making it very challenging to deliberate should you have no dietary preferences and/or restrictions. Most of the dishes are great for splitting so I'd encourage you to at least get an app or two for the table to share, even if you and the rest of your party members each get your own main. Everything we ordered was delicious and the highlights referenced in the reviews I read beforehand did not disappoint. Eats, below: Eggplant Carpaccio w/ roasted eggplant, crushed tomato, tahini, greens, pine nuts, Jerusalem bagel: A+ Definitely the winner of the night, and this is coming from someone who is back and forth on eggplant. My friend can sometimes be sensitive to tahini so she asked for it on the side, but she ended up approving it and we drizzled it on afterwards. Light but still flavorful, a nice complement to some of the heavier/richer dishes on the menu, and also always good to some veggies in. Salmon Skewer w/ farro, burst tomatoes, preserved lemon, jalapeno, sumac yogurt: A A thoughtful and well-executed preparation. The sumac yogurt was a fantastic complement to the salmon, bright and tangy with great texture. Glazed Chicken Skewer w/ celery root puree, seasonal leaves salad, chicken jus, crispy skin: A- Though our server told us this was on the smaller size, it was actually a sizable portion. The chicken was delicious, seasoned and cooked beautifully. The celery root puree was decent but forgettable, as was the seasonal leaves salad, so the chicken was the clear star of the dish, as it should be. Stumbled upon Zizi while in the area with my sister on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was packed, but we managed to snag spots at the bar. We were welcomed with a complimentary shot of vodka, which set the tone for the night. We ordered the Jerusalem bagel with hummus the bagel was good, but the hummus really stood out. We then shared the branzino, which was truly the star of the meal: fresh, perfectly crispy skin, buttery beans, and a tangy vinaigrette that tied everything together beautifully. My friend and I purposely booked an earlier dinner reservation for the martini hour. Would've booked a later reservation or somewhere else. We got here to celebrate a very special birthday on a weeknight. Made a reservation on Resy and it was probably the right choice, seeing that tables were pretty packed. We got a nice cozy table along the wall and started our dinner in due course. The ambiance in the evening is super romantic with the dim lights and such. Fortunately, we had a small iPad with the menu, which we needed in order to see what to order. Originally, we thought we'd only get full with a small and medium item.... but instead decided later to order a proper large item to split between the two of us. Anyhow, here's everything we ordered: 1) Tayim cocktail: Pretty solid cocktail. Great presentation 2) Lama Lo: This was mine. I personally enjoyed it. Great choice of single malt and the orange dash was perfect 3) Spicy Rainbow Moroccan Carrots: This was really good. Nice kick to the carrots. Better presentation. 4) Harissa Butternut Squash: We felt this one complemented the carrots pretty well. Again, a nice kick to it too, but also very fresh and the herbs added a zing to it. 5) Oyster Mushroom: One of our favorites. I had an amazing Middle Eastern dinner at Zizi in Chelsea. They have a martini happy hour from 3:30 - 6:30 so we started off with a lemon drop martini and a luxardo cherry martini. For appetizers we had the fennel confit with labneh, tempura artichokes, and grilled cabbage with a salad of snow peas, asparagus & arugula with a tahini dressing. For our main course, the grilled branzino. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent! A special shout out to Orin and Maria. The one downside is that by 7pm, the restaurant gets very crowded and loud. I will definitely go back, but a lot earlier! read more

For appetizers we did the crispy tempura artichoke and the triple cooked fries, it was good just a tad bit oily. For the main dishes we did the salmon skewers and the chicken shawarma. Both these dishes were full of flavor and besides that our pita was burnt we rated the dinner 8/10z Service was decent , most of the time we were waiting but eventually they came over, I just think they are very busy . I came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. I was ten minutes early for my reservation, but they sat me right away. The restaurant has pleasantly low lighting. Not loud at all. Their menus are conveniently displayed on handheld digital tablets. They have two single stall bathrooms located down a flight of stairs near the kitchen. To drink, I had the Harif. It was quite spicy, which I enjoyed, and not overly sweet. The seasoned rim had a slightly sour taste that I didn't care for. The jalapeño in the drink still had the seeds in and definitely brought maximum heat when I ate it, so be warned! To start, we shared the brussel sprouts. These were on the soft roasted side rather than crispy, but they were very well seasoned with chili and parmesan. A nice sweet and savory dish with the maple glaze. For my main, I got the oyster mushroom skewer. It was light and tasty. The mushrooms were drizzled with a flavorful green sauce and nicely complemented by the freekeh, which was similar to wheat berries or farro, but quite tender. Tried Zizi for the first time last week, and it was a good Mediterranean meal. We started with the 6 Z's, two fattoush salads, and two Jerusalem bagels. Everything was good, nothing in particular was a standout. I do wish the Jerusalem bagels were a bit bigger, and that the 6 Z's came with more pita. For my entree I got the Shawarma that came with a different, but nice fluffy pita. The overnight lamb looked amazing, although I didn't try it. The branzino was a really nice filet cooked perfectly. I was excited to see basbousa on the dessert menu because I'm very familiar with this dish. Unfortunately, it was incredibly dry and crumbly- not how this syrup soaked cake usually is. This was disappointing. Overall a nice dinner out with friends. I would come back, maybe to try their brunch. read more

Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way for this place, but if you're already in the neighborhood and hungry it's a decent option. Ambiance / Service: I did not go inside - sat outside on a warm day (outside area is not fully enclosed, so definitely only suitable for warmer days). Came around 1pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was almost empty. Service was great. Super friendly and attentive. Food: nothing really stood out to me. I ordered: -Za'atar Caesar: this was decent. The croutons were really good. -TLV Breakfast: good portion size and quite satisfying. It's what you'd expect - the only qualm is the green sauce was super bitter and not quite edible. -French Toast: the actual french toast is quite good, but the halva that comes with it was way too much. Went to Zizi's after a visit to the Rubin and found a cozy inside in a great location with good, reasonably priced food and fine service. The lentil arais was a grilled pita ("frenah") lentil sandwich, which was way better than it sounds. The lentils should've been cooked to a softer consistency, but its mesh of swiss chard, harissa and especially the labneh came together quite well, and the salsa side added a complementary acidity. The ceviche was quite good as well with a delicious spicy sauce and generous portion of diced tuna. Could've had more coriander. Both of the types of bread we had were slightly overdone, though that did add a tastefulness when topped by their respective sauces. Fine hummus with very good fluffy pita. Day and time : Friday 6pm - party of 5 I love when I don't have to find the restaurant and make the reservation for a dinner out with friends. A friend chose this place as they use to frequent it when it was based in Williamsburg. I was the first one to arrive and was seated immediately which is a huge thumbs up. I was made aware of the happy hour that was ending 6pm . That's good service ! The food ( to me ) was ok , it wasn't memorable but it also wasn't bad . I enjoyed sharing the 6z ( which consisted of mostly all the apps ) with my friends and we all ordered our respective entrees. 3 of us got the skirt steak , one the overnight lamb while the other got the striped bass . Pacing of the food was great ! The main entrees were good with the exception of the fish ( despite having been told it's fresh , 3 of us tried it and unfortunately didn't pass the test . Glad the restaurant didn't charge for the not eaten dish ). The ambiance is somewhat similar to jacks wife Frieda in Chelsea. It's popular with people who are vegetarian and the crowd is younger ( 20's). Price point was affordable . While the service was good , food was ok, the minimal ac didn't make it too comfortable being inside .
