This is the second location, but same amazing food same amazing staff. Very pleasant, very attentive and some of the most delicious breakfast foods. I've had very competitively priced even when there is a wait they get you in pretty quickly. The Elvis ambience are adorable and present throughout both locations. read more

If you are looking for a classic diner breakfast, food coming out quick and good service then come to Shortys diner in Yorktown. Sarran took great care of us and had a great personality. We had the oatmeal with fruit, biscuits and gravy, and the shortys garbage plate was fantastic. Your classic breakfast smothered in gravy. Soooo good. Shorty's new location at Denbigh and 17 next to Kroger is a bright, retro diner venue with easy access and parking. We were seated quickly and our server was sweet and attentive. Food was a bit slow from the kitchen but portions were large. The menu is extensive with breakfast and lunch served during the open hours. They close at 2pm daily. The food was ok, none of us were raving about it or overly impressed. I ordered a Monte Cristo which was served exactly as described on the menu and was not all that tasty. I would not order it again. The hash browns with onions and cheese were very good. My unsweet tea was nicely brewed and refills were offered. I'm not sure why the servers have to wear teeny tiny skirts even tbough it is part of the logo. I thought shorties refered to a short order cook but apparently not. Too bad as it is unnecessary. I give the over all dining experience a 4, with one star taken away because the food wasn't all that. Not bad, but not great. Just ok. read more

Sophia's co-workers have been talking about this Shorty's location for a while. We first went to the location in Williamsburg years ago and liked our meal. Turns out they have two locations in the Richmond area and opened this one in Yorktown not too long ago. With the both us having the day off for Juneteenth, we decided to go out and have breakfast. We were greeted by staff upon walking inside and were seated. The decor definitely brings you back in time to the '50s. On the wall is artwork, 45-inch records, pictures from the staff and locals and a statue of Elvis right up front. They played music from the '50s and '60s. Hearing acts like Little Richard and The Supremes was actually refreshing. For our meal, we both ordered Country Fried Steak (my sides were scrambled eggs and home fries and Sophia chose hard fried eggs and shredded hash browns). The beef steak was really good and cooked well. However, the sides lacked major seasoning. I could taste butter in the eggs but no salt nor pepper. The home fries not only lacked seasoning, they were very dry. I couldn't finish eating them compared to the rest of the dish. Sophia said her hash browns lacked seasoning as well. Overall, it was a mixed bag. However, this visit won't deter us from coming back. read more

I was craving a nice diner breakfast and went to shorty's for some eggs and hash browns! The wait staff was super nice and quick with their service. The diner is cute with a very Elvis, 50s theme going on! I ordered the shortys special and my husband ordered the shortys classic combo. My food came out warm and ready, but it lacked specific taste and the sausage links weren't my favorite. My husband's sausage patty came out under done with pink in the middle and his onions were basically raw on his hash browns. They replaced the sausage patty and we finished the food with no problem, but it wasn't my favorite diner meal. It also wasn't the cheapest, it was about $42 for both our meals and a coffee and orange juice. Not bad, but I've had better diner food. The breakfast sampler was really tasty overall, though the fries were slightly too greasy and burnt. The meat omelet was cooked to perfection, and the biscuit was one of the best--buttery and moist. The grits were a little lumpy and bland but probably just needed some butter. The pancake was just right and even better than at IHOP. The decor was pleasant, and the ambiance was lively but not too noisy. Service was excellent, with constant coffee refills, and the coffee itself was always hot, which was great. This will be our new go-to breakfast spot, and I'm looking forward to trying other items on the menu. read more

Old school dinner kinda decor. Very friendly staff serving breakfast and lunch from 6am til 2pm. There's usually a wait list, but goes fairly quickly. They have a great variety of items on both the breakfast and lunch menus. Today I had the Ultimate Club Sandwich. It was very good and very big. So much so I took half home for dinner. I haven't had any of the breakfast items yet, but my gives a thumbs up on the pancakes and grits. Stop in sometime! read more

The service was wonderful. But the food is pre-cooked. The sausage links were so shriveled up that I know if they've been reheated/microwaved. The toast also was so dry/dark brown that it's obvious all the food is pre-cooked/reheated. read more

I saw this place on the way home and decided to give it a try. I ordered the pancakes and a side of eggs. The pancakes were the absolute worst! They were dry and resembled cornbread more than pancakes. This was an absolute waste of money and I would definitely not recommend the pancakes here. read more

Third visit and likely our last. First visit was good, a bit pricey for the food but since there aren't a lot of options locally, it was okay. Second visit, the food was wrong, cold and took forever to get to us. When brought to the attention of the waitress she shrugged and said "it still tastes good" and then disappeared. Today, the waitress was annoyed to be at work. Yes, we all have bad days. The food was cold, my pancakes were gummy (previous visit they were good) and our waitress never appeared again to refill drinks, bring syrup or to ask for syrup, or to see if we needed anything. The onions in my daughter's omelet were raw and the home fries were barely cooked. No ketchup on table and again, no waitress to ask for some. read more

Small portions, big prices and flavorless food. Never again. I really don't see how they stay in business.

I really wanted Shorty's to be my "go-to" place. It's convenient to all the places I shop. Have been about a dozen times. When folks suggest it, I go, with hopes it will be better than the last time. I won't choose it as my "go-to" place nor would I recommend it, but will go as others I know really like it. Williamsburg location does seem to do a better job with food prep. However, they also have upcharges for almost any change to burgers, pancakes, etc. Service is almost always 5/5 - very good to excellent. Ambiance is good 4/5 Food - for the price - is awful. I think that once in these dozen times, I got hot food. Lunch food is typically warmer than breakfast. I'm assuming they make lunch to order. I do not believe they do the same for breakfast. NEVER had hot anything for breakfast. NOTHING. Warm would be a great thing - but it is almost always somewhere between room temperature and barely warm. Breakfast today: The breakfast sampler - Eggs were done to perfection and were slightly warm. Toast was cold, so we asked to retoast, it came out burned and only warm - butter would not melt on it. Hashbrowns are also normally cold, so we asked that they be crispy (so that they would be hotter). Also burned. Bacon had clearly been sitting in grease - used 1 napkin per slice to try to remove grease from the wimpy, not crispy, bacon. The ham and sausage patty were good and barely warm. In the past, same experience with breakfast foods. Lunch, we have tried a number of items, same results, barely warm, if warm at all. Watch for all the extra charges. For example, a hamburger comes with lettuce and tomato. To add "normal" burger items, is an upcharge, per item - e.g., pickles and onions (somewhere between $1-2 on an already pricey hamburger). When fresh, and hot, the hand cut fries are delicious! 50/50 on getting them fresh and hot. Club sandwich with potato salad - served cold - are really good. Not a place I would recommend, however, can tolerate it when others ask - as I know not to expect hot food. So my expectations are low and are usually met. read more

We are regulars to Shorty's in Williamsburg Virginia (always great) & since we're here in Yorktown Virginia we had to stop into the new Shorty's Yorktown location. Shorty's restaurant #3 was awesome! The Eggs Benedict & Vegetable Omelet were both delicious and plentiful. Our waitress Skyler was so friendly & attentive. And the new locale has the same great 50's Diner ambiance as Williamsburg only twice the size - plus a party room. This may be a weekly drop-in after Saturday morning Yorktown Market Days. This was my first and last time experiencing this restaurant. I don't even what to try their dinner. The food was barely cooked and had no flavor. I am shocked to see the good reviews. The inside was very nice. However it doesn't make up for the for the horrible food. I honestly think the pictures left on the reviews for this place are from somewhere else. Reuben sandwich @$14.50 consisted of meat & cheese only. No sauerkraut, no Thousand Island or Russian dressing, and the bread was barely warm/barely toasted, not crispy. Onion rings were very good, however. Two in our party ordered carrot cake for dessert, $8/slice. When they arrived, one was cut twice as thick as the other. It was served way too cold, as if it had just thawed. Service was very good. I don't feel compelled to return again, however. read more

Diner was clean and well decorated. Service was friendly and quick. Large food selection. There were 4 of us for lunch. Grilled cheese was good. Tuna melt was very good. Tuna Salad plate was very good and large. Patty melt was disappointing. Asked for medium rare but it was very very rare . Bottom slices of bread were wet and soggy. Next time will ask for medium. I have been to Shortys diner in Yorktown twice now.First time was great.Food was good.service was great.I told my husband this is our new breakfast spot.Evwn told friends about how good this place was.My decision changed on 10/17.Went for breakfast.Food was slow this time.service was good.Within a minute of putting my omelette,and hash browns on my fork there was a dark long hair in my food.Mind you I had one bite of my sausage and cheese omelette.I told the waitress,and she apologized,and offered to bring me another.No matter where I am I don't want another plate of food after finding a strangers hair in it.I kindly refused giving my whole plate I just received back.I get the receipt,and was charged for the plate Of food I discovered hair in.I asked to talk to a manager.The waitress said she already took 5 dollars off,and I had to pay for the rest of the food.I told her that's wild I'm still paying for a dish I sent back with hair in that I couldn't eat.She then brought me another receipt,and said she also did a military discount which was 1 dollar,and change.I said I am military so thank you,but this still isn't right,and told her I wouldn't be returning to Shortys ever again.The manager never came over and I ended up paying for food that had hair in it that I didn't eat. I'm not sure who the manager is at this time,but serious training needs to happen at this location.Treat your customers better.Wow just wow. read more

First visit...Eggs Benedict was horrible. Eggs were not poached correctly and served hard and the hollandaise sauce was terrible... very vinegar tasting. The home fries were almost raw. The coffee was burnt and I sent it back. Then we got our check and for two meals it was way over priced. Staff was very friendly though. read more

My wife and I have eaten here at least half a dozen times, and the food is always great, the service is always good. It's clean, brightly lit, and one feels very safe because it's a favorite spot for the Yorktown Sheriff and Deputies. Highly recommend! read more

Last Saturday was our first visit to the Yorktown location. Unfortunately it was nothing like my previous outstanding experiences with both the Williamsburg and Richmond locations. Party of 5, and my simple order wrong in every way possible. Fried chicken sandwich, not grilled as ordered; French fries instead of my side salad substitute. No problem I thought, the waitress agreed and immediately headed back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, I got my grilled chicken sandwich and after the first bite, I noticed the chicken was undercooked (both texture and then my visual inspection). So I sent it back and just requested a refund (since everyone else was all but finished). When the waitress brought me the check, she said "the kitchen cut into the chicken and it was done, it was just the sauce making it look undercooked." I advised her that it was indeed undercooked, and obviously not the sauce. I also made it clear that this was the first time I've ever had to return a chicken sandwich, anywhere, because of it being undercooked. Regarding my botched meal and disappointing experience, the waitress took off the sandwich charge but included the full charge for the side salad rather the smaller, adjusted add-on substitute charge replacing the fries. At that point, I knew I was done with the Yorktown Shorty's. Too bad, I was looking so forward to this location. read more
