    Decor behind us

Sophia's co-workers have been talking about this Shorty's location for a while. We first went to the location in Williamsburg years ago and liked our meal. Turns out they have two locations in the Richmond area and opened this one in Yorktown not too long ago. With the both us having the day off for Juneteenth, we decided to go out and have breakfast. We were greeted by staff upon walking inside and were seated. The decor definitely brings you back in time to the '50s. On the wall is artwork, 45-inch records, pictures from the staff and locals and a statue of Elvis right up front. They played music from the '50s and '60s. Hearing acts like Little Richard and The Supremes was actually refreshing. For our meal, we both ordered Country Fried Steak (my sides were scrambled eggs and home fries and Sophia chose hard fried eggs and shredded hash browns). The beef steak was really good and cooked well. However, the sides lacked major seasoning. I could taste butter in the eggs but no salt nor pepper. The home fries not only lacked seasoning, they were very dry. I couldn't finish eating them compared to the rest of the dish. Sophia said her hash browns lacked seasoning as well. Overall, it was a mixed bag. However, this visit won't deter us from coming back.

I was craving a nice diner breakfast and went to shorty's for some eggs and hash browns! The wait staff was super nice and quick with their service. The diner is cute with a very Elvis, 50s theme going on! I ordered the shortys special and my husband ordered the shortys classic combo. My food came out warm and ready, but it lacked specific taste and the sausage links weren't my favorite. My husband's sausage patty came out under done with pink in the middle and his onions were basically raw on his hash browns. They replaced the sausage patty and we finished the food with no problem, but it wasn't my favorite diner meal. It also wasn't the cheapest, it was about $42 for both our meals and a coffee and orange juice. Not bad, but I've had better diner food. Quality: 3/5 Customer service: 4/5 Value for cost: 3/5

The breakfast sampler was really tasty overall, though the fries were slightly too greasy and burnt. The meat omelet was cooked to perfection, and the biscuit was one of the best--buttery and moist. The grits were a little lumpy and bland but probably just needed some butter. The pancake was just right and even better than at IHOP. The decor was pleasant, and the ambiance was lively but not too noisy. Service was excellent, with constant coffee refills, and the coffee itself was always hot, which was great. This will be our new go-to breakfast spot, and I'm looking forward to trying other items on the menu.

Old school dinner kinda decor. Very friendly staff serving breakfast and lunch from 6am til 2pm. There's usually a wait list, but goes fairly quickly. They have a great variety of items on both the breakfast and lunch menus. Today I had the Ultimate Club Sandwich. It was very good and very big. So much so I took half home for dinner. I haven't had any of the breakfast items yet, but my gives a thumbs up on the pancakes and grits. Stop in sometime!

    Dry pancakes

I saw this place on the way home and decided to give it a try. I ordered the pancakes and a side of eggs. The pancakes were the absolute worst! They were dry and resembled cornbread more than pancakes. This was an absolute waste of money and I would definitely not recommend the pancakes here.

Excellent customer service and a delicious breakfast for a decent price! We found a gem and definitely will be back. Everything was good, we were starving and yet .couldn't finish our meals. Highly recommend. Elvis lives!!!

This was my first and last time experiencing this restaurant. I don't even what to try their dinner. The food was barely cooked and had no flavor. I am shocked to see the good reviews. The inside was very nice. However it doesn't make up for the for the horrible food. I honestly think the pictures left on the reviews for this place are from somewhere else. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Situated right under the York River bridge, not far from the Yorktown museum, is the cutest village. I'm sorry, they can't claim it as part of the original Yorktown but it is cute. There is a lovely river walk...hence the name of the restaurant. They have some of the BEST views in the area being right there. We had reservations however it being the busiest day for restaurants, we had to chill our heels for a few moments before being taken back. I was more than ok with this as we ended up getting a window seat (see above for reference). Thank heavens they put the name of the server in the receipt cuz y'all know my Swiss cheese brain. Cara was the wonderful server who took care of us. She was always there ready for me to get my mum good & spoiled. Super friendly and very helpful. The buffet, it was impressive for a buffet and while not a big buffet, it was specialized. First up were 3 different kinds of salads, then a fruit platter, and bagels & cream cheese. They had a raw bar with shrimp & oysters next, then breakfast stuff (eggs, potatoes bacon etc) mac & cheese, garlic mashed taters & then a carving station with turkey, ham & lamb. Finally a small but respectful dessert table. If you couldn't find something to fill you, you weren't looking. The single sour note of the buffet was the salmon and Mac & cheese. I'll know better next time. Overall the River Walk has come back with perfect timing and style. I highly recommend a visit. Parking is a pain but patience will help

When I found out they were having a set menu for Vday I called the week of and we were able to switch our reservations to Friday February 13th. I downloaded the InKiND app as well and they gave me a $50 off discount if you spend minimum $150. The open table app did have a $20 per person fee for reservations and that will be applied to the final bill. Our reservations were at 4pm and we arrived early and the parking area is ample with a parking garage and some street parking. We started walking to the restaurant at about 355pm. This time of the year seems to slower with ot being cold. Once inside we were greeted by the young ladies up front. We were offered a table or booth and we chose a table. We did sit at a table with the view of the water which was nice. Jason our server came over within seconds to pour us water and take our drink orders. We both wanted sweet tea with lemon. Since we knew ahead of time what we were ordering, we gave our appetizers orderes first. We ordered the soup of the day which was the she crab soup. It is highly recommended. We only ordered a cup and not a bowl because we were unsure of how it tasted. The Caesar salad had no anchovie flavor like we are use to and was just medicore. We ordered the meatballs which had lamb and pork in it. They were juicy, tender and just needed a little more seasoning. The Calamari was fried to perfection for me and could've used a pinch of salt. The sweet tea was everything and I would recommend it. For the main entrees, we chose the shrimp and scallop risotto and the beef braised Ragau. There were two scallops and four grilled shrimp and few asparagus with some chopped up bacon. This dish I highly recommend as well. The beef was tender, seasoned and pasta was cooked perfect. Overall, this is a nice and quiet place to dine at anytime. I would recommend and will definitely return again. Jason was on point with his promptness.

I was sitting in the parking lot of a large chain breakfast pulled up Yelp to see what I might be missing. Glad wasn't lazy...15 mins later I was in the parking lot for 185! If you haven't been to 185 on Little Florida Road in Poquoson, you are seriously missing out. This charming, family-owned neighborhood gem is everything a great local restaurant should be and then some. The moment I walked through the door, I felt it. You're not just a customer here; you're a guest. The welcome was immediate and genuine and set the tone for the whole experience before I even sat down. I ordered the brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries, and wow, it delivered. I was surprised the blackberry chipotle sauce worked BERY WELL! The brisket was tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Paired with perfectly seasoned sweet potato fries, it was the kind of meal that sticks with you long after you leave. This isn't reheated, thrown-together food, you can taste the love and craft in every bite. It was like Woman Power this morning with all ladies from front to back. Their whole vibe was awesome from the front of the house to the back. I have to give a very special shoutout to my waitress, Tiffany... she was absolutely AWESOME. Attentive, personable, and full of good energy, she made the whole experience even better. The kind of server who makes you feel like you're dining with a friend. Looks like 185 was ranked #87 on Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants in 2023, and after my visit, I completely understand why. The owners obviously had a beautiful vision and it is being executed incredibly...to my benefit today! Five stars, without question. The food was good home cooked meals and came out quickly. I had brisket scramble and it was delicious. It needed the sweet compote to balance the richness. My wife had the biscuits with gravy and eggs were good. There was lots of sausage in the country gravy. The cheese grits were tasty. Overall the food was very good and a solid experience. Since I live with a chef who cooks this quality of food often, I probably wouldn't drive here, however if we were in the area I'd definitely stop here and try other items as well.

I'm not exaggerating. It came out super quick too so they have to be making it ahead and just letting it sit. I had country fried steak, eggs over medium, toast and home fries and a side of bacon. The home fries and steak were lukewarm, the eggs were literally cold like they sat in the refrigerator, the bacon was also damned close to being that cold. The toast was cold as can be, barely toasted, no butter, not cut. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said there is butter on the table. That's it. She really seemed like it was a bother to have to serve customers at all. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I don't know how this place has any positive reviews at all. I sent my entire meal back but still paid for coffee and the side of bacon (and my sons' meals of waffles and French toast). I didn't want mine remade. Still cost me nearly 50 dollars for this trash, and no offer to make it right other than removing exactly what I sent back. My other and more serious concern is food safety. IF they ARE cooking this ahead and storing it in a way that leaves it cold or room temp, bacteria is a big concern. I'm typing this from the toilet and my stomach is going through it right now. From a few bites of cold food? Maybe.
