We've been stopping at Logan's for the last several years whenever heading south. We enjoy supporting small businesses instead of the chains whenever possible. This trip today certainly ended any future stops at Logan's. We arrived and were seated at 10:28. A waitress approached our table 3-4 minutes later to state that they were "switching over to lunch because it was 10:30". I told her we stopped for a few omelettes and the cook currently had eggs on the grill. She said she would check with the manager. All of this unfolded in front of us. A meeting with the manager, then the cook and back to the manager. Our waitress then returned with the verdict and lunch menus! She said, "you'll have to do lunch!" Small town luncheonette and apparantly a local favorite. It has about 6 booths and a long counter with about 15 seats which faces the grill. It is "quaint" and fits well into the towns appearance. The staff were very friendly and service was quick. The food was good. Nothing special but good. The prices were cheap comparatively to our home prices. BLT with chips and a club sandwich with chips and two coffees was $15.00. This was not a spot to go out of your way for. But if you are in downtown Emporia and like trying out little local places like we do, it's worth a stop. read more

Wow! What a terrific piece of old school Americana. Located right on Main St., this diner is comfort food heaven! Clean and everyone is super friendly. The awesome waitress recommended the hamburger steak special (with 2 sides and a roll) and she was right on the mark. The yummy onion gravy and moist patty reminded me of dinners growing up. So did the butter beans which melted in my mouth and were cooked with just the right amount of ham. Unfortunately, the Mac n Cheese also reminded me of my Mom's - bland. It was obviously reheated in the microwave and had some cold spots. That's the only reason I gave this place 4 stars. Hubby had the ribeye sandwich and loved it. Not too thick, not too thin and flavorful. He said it was so good he could eat another one! Great little stop off 58/95. I've never given a 1 star in all my reviews so you know this place earned it. Walked in at 10:35 on a rainy cold Friday morning and was told they stop serving breakfast at 10:30. I asked if they would make an exception since it was only 10:35 and in a "sweet", southern accent the waitress said, "No Sir, not after 10:30". Any place that won't sway to make a guy breakfast when he walks in 5 minutes after they "stop serving" on a rainy morning doesn't deserve your business. I guess the griddle is on a timer or something. I'm not sure what would be the reason not to cook eggs and bacon past 10:30. Who eats lunch at 10:30 unless your the unfortunate kid with the early lunch period. Common courtesy is like common sense. It's not that common and this place is the epitome of hypocrisy. They can play the rule of a place with southern hospitality but their truth was revealed that morning. I found a great breakfast down the street that still was cooking eggs at 10:35 in the morning. I ordered a Reuben sandwich. Kind of hard to screw up a Reuben: corned beef and swiss on rye, a little kraut and thousand island dressing... boom! What's so hard about that? What I got was cheesesteak-style beef and swiss on rye, with a squeeze pack of dressing on the side. It was just weird. If only they'd used corned beef it would have been pretty good, but instead it was like a Philly cheesesteak on rye, with salad dressing. That's not good. While staying in Emporia as part of a road trip, I was looking for a place to have breakfast other than at chain restaurants along the Interstate. I headed into town and stopped in at Logan's Diner, parking along the street. This diner has a hometown feel with booths (7) along the wall and counter seating (11 high seats), and open food prep and grill area behind the counter. The place has a 1950s theme with classic posters on the seagreen painted cinder block walls, pink painted walls, jukebox (with oldies) and 45-records hanging above the dining area. They serve traditional American fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the prices seem reasonable (prices under $10). Breakfast items include egg dishes (with meat choices including pork chops, steak, bologna, pork brains, sausage, bacon, salmon cakes), omelets, pancakes, French toast, Belgian waffles, hash, and biscuits with sausage gravy. Lunch/dinner items include sandwiches, burgers, soup, salads, chicken tenders, BBQ, hot wings, fried shrimp, and sides. Daily specials are offered here including fried trout & shrimp on Fridays. I was greeted as I entered the place and sat myself at a booth. I was offered a drink while looking at the menu. The coffee ($1.49) served in a big mug was good, Coffeemate creamers on table. For breakfast, I ordered the Salmon Cakes ($6.25) with 2 eggs, choice of home fries, hash browns, or grits and choice of toast or biscuit. I watched my food being cooked to order on the grill and skillet and served in about 10 minutes after ordering. The portion of hot food was generous. The 2 grilled salmon cakes were thick, crisp browned on the outside and soft and moist texture inside with minced chopped onions, shredded salmon meat and breading. The hash browns were freshly shredded potatoes, grilled and browned crisp on the outside. The hot buttermilk biscuit was very good too. The service here was good and laid lack here. The place was not that busy on a rainy Thursday morning and the staff kept an eye on my table. I was given some ice water without asking for it. I did not need refills on the coffee since the big mug had enough liquified caffeine. This place was a great pick for a "Southern style" breakfast! read more

First and last time there. Hubby and I went there because of the 4 1/2 star rating. We sat at the counter and ordered lunch. I ordered grilled chicken sandwich, hubby ordered a Philly cheesesteak. The menu said it came with onions and peppers but evidently you have to ask for them. All he got was meat and cheese on a hogue. He was served and halfway through his sandwich before I even got mine. Watching the the person grill we observed all meat was frozen and she was using the same utensils between beef and chicken. They put a hot dog in the deep fryer then on the grill. Cooked meat was put on a counter without a plate so she could put mayonnaise on a bun. All in all, had I observed this before I ate, I would have walked out How it got 4 1/2 stars is beyond us. Stopped off here for lunch on the way back home with the family. Food was inexpensive, tasty and served quickly. Husband had the ribeye sandwich & said it was very flavorful. Kids ate all their food which is not usual for our family. Servers were friendly & attentive. It's a bit crowded at lunchtime - pretty small space and the booths only hold 4 ppl. Amazing place Felt like we were in Mayberry everyone was friendly and welcoming including the other patrons. The food was excellent it is a breakfast and lunch place to time your trip so you can go back in time and have wonderful fresh home cooked food. Very awesome restaurant! We were driving back to Winston from Virginia Beach and we're making an effort to stop somewhere local and not a chain. We saw this online and decided to give it a go. The place was packed on a Monday afternoon so we knew we chose well. I got the cheeseburger with a side salad and I devoured both! Once again, our fellow Yelpers steered us to a great local spot on a road trip. Just north of NC is a quaint town - Emporia. It looks like something out of the Andy Griffith Show. At the corner of one of the shopping blocks, is Logan's Diner. We ordered takeout because we had our dog with us, but got a glimpse into the past when walking inside this traditional local diner, complete with counter seating and a handful of booths. The ladies behind the counter are like something out of a movie - friendly & damned efficient. They have a great system and are happy to make a recommendation. If you ask for a suggestion, take it. You won't go wrong. We had a cheese steak on a sub roll and a grilled chicken, bacon, & Swiss on Texas Toast. Both were delicious and just the right amount of food. First of all, I'm a Yankee, and probably a damned Yankee in these parts. But I think this place is way overrated. My dad and I were traveling trough and he wanted to stop when he heard to good reviews. He had a burger and fries. I had real trouble finding healthy food and usually don't stop somewhere without seeing the menu online. My fears were realized when even the salads heavily featured bacon and cheese. I ordered three vegetable sides: beets, butter beans, and green beans. They were all canned and sad enough looking that I didn't want to take a picture. The green beans had bacon on top though I asked about that. Dad liked his meal OK and maybe it's coincidental that dad got GI distress later in the day. The meal cost $20 but to me was with half that. I was pleasantly surprised there was some masking for COViD and an integrated crowd, but the "come back and see us" everyone said without making eye contact struck me as gimmicky. Western omelet was great! They use mushrooms and tomato (which made it a little watery but delish nonetheless ) and everything was cut into huge chunks, yum! I opted for home fries vs hash browns and they let me add onions. I was disappointed when I saw her drop sliced onions in the deep fryer, and then sliced potatoes in a separate basket. Bummer. I was really looking forward to potato chunks cooked with onions on the flat top. They came out more like thick potato chips. Oh well, the omelet made up for it. Service was fast and friendly.
