Chicken salad sandwich with sweet potato fries
Angela M.

Atmosphere was airy and clean. Waitress was sweet and attentive. My husband had the smothered chicken and mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. Best smothered chicken and mac and cheese we've ever tasted. Next level. I had the chicken salad sandwich with sweet potato fries and pasta salad. All was amazing. We will drive the hour to go back. Sooo good! Worth every penny. Dessert (chocolate something) was amazing. Desserts are expensive, but they taste expensive-ours had some kind of almond truffle with hard chocolate.

We were cutting across Virginia 58 from Portsmouth on our way to I-85 the other night, heading South to visit family. I knew if we continued on, Cracker Barrel would be our only dinner option. I suggested we look for something in Franklin. I'm so glad that occurred to me because it led us to Serve. The dining room is spacious and airy with a layout that makes it convenient for both guests and staff to make their way around the floor. The room is very well maintained. I asked our server if they had just opened and was surprised to hear the restaurant has been there for five years. Even the restrooms are nice. The menu offers a wide variety of choices. So many things looked good that it made it difficult to decide. Every time a served walked by with a dish for another table, it became the new thing I had to try. We finally decided on Bronco Beet salads (roasted mixed beets, candied pecans, feta, and greens with balsamic dressing), a meatloaf sandwich with Brussels, and a blonde farmer flatbread (white sauce, carmelized onions, spinach, bacon, and mozzarella). The portion sizes were beyond generous and everything was delicious. The beat salad was really tasty. We both enjoyed it. We each ordered a half salad, which was still huge. We could have easily split one of the half salads. The chef is not stingy with any of the ingredients. The salad was chock full of pecans, beets, and feta. The basaltic dressing was also delicious. The meatloaf sandwich was served on a brioche bun with a sweet house sauce and some breaded and deep fried cheese curds in the sandwich. It comes with a choice of sides and I opted for their roasted Brussels sprouts. These were roasted dark and flavorful and served in a small dish of syrup. If there weren't so many other things to try on the menu, I'd absolutely order this again. The flatbread was huge and steamy right out of the oven. It was a wonderful break from traditional pizza sauce, with the white sauce allowing the sweet flavor of the carmelized onions and the smoky crunch of the bacon to be the stars of the dish. It was too large to finish while we were dining, but the leftovers made for a great road snack a few hours further into our journey. Franklin's about an hour from home for us, which puts this restaurant a bit out of our travel radius for regular visits, but it's absolutely on our list now whenever we are out that way on Route 58.

This place is great- it's super open and has a bright clean feeling to it. The tables are all spaced apart, which is nice to not feel packed in like a sardine, especially these days! Their drinks are delicious (I had many of their margaritas) and the flatbread pizza was so good! The second time I went, I tried the Mediterranean salad, and the olives were just black olives from a can, which I feel like they should always be kalamata olives on a Mediterranean salad, but that's okay- I just won't order that again. Everything else was delicious! I can't wait to come to downtown Franklin again to eat here!

Let's talk friends! We live in Suffolk and rarely go into Franklin for anything but we wanted to try something new with out going to far out and my fellow Yelpers led us to this super quaint spot. I said quaint but it is nice and open, plenty of space for sure. Hey don't give 5 stars often but they earned it. Why? Keep reading friends.. Parking: Huge lot right out front gave us ample parking space. The welcome: We were immediately greeted by Caitlin (?) with a smile and asked our preference of a booth or table. She took us over to a roomy little booth and informed us that the server would be right over. Atmosphere: So nice! Clean and inviting. Rather bright and nicely decorated. Bathroom: Single restroom that was clean too. Now the food! Baybeeeeeee that flatbread was so good! We got the all meat one and it was perfect. We also ordered the wings, extra crispy, with the house dry rub. Listen, it didn't disappoint! Came out hot and crispy and enough for 3 of us to share. Next, my daughter had the jumbo shrimp with 2 sides, fries and Mac n cheese, hubs had the Stromboli and I had the crispy chicken sandwich with a side house salad. Everything and I mean everything, came out hot, order correct, and quickly. The shrimp were so big and juicy! Listen we enjoyed it all! Bailey our server was sweet, attentive and on it with the drink refills. We will definitely come back.. I can only hope the next time is as wonderful as this first time.

An all American family restaurant! We have been to Serve since it opened in Franklin, multiple times! The food is good, all American food (burgers, fries, wings, pizza) and has some comfort foods too! My favorite foods here are definitely the salads which are HUGE! There is definitely something for everyone here! The ambiance is very hometown and local feels! The pictures around the space show family and friends from the Franklin area! The service is always friendly and fast when bringing drinks, and they are awesome when it comes to answering questions or making suggestions! Why it's not a 5 star restaurant for my family and I all comes down to consistency, if you go in a super busy night sometimes the food isn't warm when you get it.

What's not to absolutely LOVE about this eatery?! The staff...fabulous! The food...incredible! The eatery and setup of this restaurant with open kitchen to boot...perfect! I have been here at least 3 times now, and have truly enjoyed every bite! It's funny, each person has a favorite of what they HAVE to order each time we come! One is the garlic knots, another the homemade Mac and cheese, one is the souped up BLT, another the great Caesar salad, another the 4 oz burger sandwich with special sauce/kettle chips and a side of homemade ranch dressing (I added that last part on and the ranch dressing was so so good)!!!! Ok, so honestly this list goes on and on, but the bottom line is that if you don't try this place your missing out on something truly special in Franklin, VA!

This has been high on my "want to try" for a long time and finally saw an opportunity with an available reservation, went for it and am so happy I did. I dined solo, which I rarely do, but this was the perfect place for it. It was apparent that most people dining were regulars. The owner was chatting with just about everyone and diners were popping over to other tables to say hello, as well. Felt like a very small town. Service was perfect - not overbearing, but perfectly timed for a good flow throughout dinner. Their menu changes often, so some of the items I loved, may not be available - but it does seem like their fried oysters are a mainstay and holy moly, they were delicious. I had one cocktail - I believe it was called Watermelon Sugar. It had vodka, aperol and fresh watermelon. Refreshing and smooth. I tried two apps: the fried oysters and the bao buns. Both were fantastic. Perfectly prepared, so much flavor. I think that next time, I would stick to the appetizer section and try many rather than getting an entree. I got the scallops, which were delicious, but the apps wow-ed me more. Prices aren't low, but you get what you pay for - really high quality dishes with lots of thought and execution embedded. I don't say this lightly - this has been added to my top 10 list in all of Hampton Roads!

It's a small, quaint space that gives you that perfect blend of cozy neighborhood vibes with an upscale, refined feel. The food was absolutely outstanding--every dish had unique, well-balanced flavors that clearly showcased the talent of the chef. You can truly tell that a lot of care and creativity goes into the menu. The service made the experience even better. The bartenders were fantastic (James especially stood out!), and the waitstaff were incredibly personable, attentive, and welcoming. The level of service from the manager, Claire, was nothing short of exceptional. She was attentive, welcoming, and clearly takes pride in ensuring every guest has a great experience. That kind of leadership sets the tone--and it absolutely showed. The food matched the service perfectly. The fresh salad bar was crisp, well-stocked, and full of quality options. The pizza was outstanding--perfectly cooked with a flavorful crust and generous toppings. And the Philly cheesesteak sandwich? Incredible. Tender, well-seasoned meat, melted cheese, and served hot and fresh. Every bite delivered. It's rare to find a place where both the service and the food hit a 10, but Crust and Cork absolutely delivered. This was a 10 out of 10 experience, and we will definitely be returning--and recommending it to everyone we know.

-Celiac- Gluten-free Review- Visited Halloween night…read more(10/31/25), and it ended up being crazy busy with just one server taking care of all of the tables. She was incredible and double checked on everything for us. The alfredo sauce does contain gluten, so that took two of the pizza options away. Also the fryer is NOT dedicated, so anything fried, including wings, was a no go. If I remember correctly, all of the pastas can be made gf, it would just be a gf penne substitute. We started with the scallops appetizer and it was pretty good. The cauliflower crust on the pizzas was indeed wood fired, and I confirmed with two separate employees to make sure that the pizzas we had were gluten free because they did not look it lol. I got the classic New Yorker and she got the white margarita. I loved my pizza...hers was pretty bland tbh. I'd probably stick with the Italian or New Yorker or create my own. We got a chocolate torte for dessert and it was pretty good. I think they also had a gelato available that was gf. Drinks were decent. I'm not a cocktail snob, but if you are, understand that the bartenders are bartenders here and not mixologists. It is a hotel bar so you will pay mixologist prices. I still give this 3.75 stars even with limited options. That is the BEST cauliflower crust I've ever had, and it's a 12 inch with 8 slices standard, which was much bigger than what I was expecting. Our server was incredible all the way around, and I didn't get sick! It is on the pricier side, and their website does not list menu prices. Average pizza price is $17 +$2 for gf.

Great for Wine, Not for Dinner (Unfortunately) I don't know…read morewhy my Bestie and I keep doing this to ourselves -- we love Cooper's Hawk for the wine tastings, but every time we try to give dinner another chance... it ends the same way. After our tasting, we decided to sit down and order one of our longtime favorites: the short rib with mashed potatoes and vegetables. We hadn't had it in a few months because the last time was an epic fail, but we figured we'd give it another shot. As always, the pretzel bread and butter were a highlight -- that part never misses. The entrée, however, was another disappointment. The vegetables were noticeably undercooked -- still hard and crunchy -- and the dish came out with barely any sauce, even though I specifically asked for extra. For a short rib dish, you expect that rich, flavorful gravy to tie everything together... and it just wasn't there. A manager did come over after I pointed it out, and she genuinely tried to make it right, which I appreciated. We were offered another meal to take home, but at that point we were honestly just over it. To end on a positive note, I tried the Banoffee Pie for the first time (recommended by the manager), and it was actually really good -- rich, sweet, and worth trying. I also ordered their chocolate cake to go (which I usually love), but when I got home, it wasn't in the bag. I had to call for a refund, which they did handle -- but it just added to the overall frustration. At this point, it's become a pattern. When I first started coming here over a year ago, everything was consistently great. Lately, though, the dinner experience has been more miss than hit. We'll absolutely continue coming back for the wine tastings -- those are still top-tier. But for dinner? We're done trying.
