Country fried steak with grilled cabbage and mashed potatoes
    Amy M.

Brother and I stopped by for dinner on our weekly drive down the 460. The blurb on Google maps says that this is a fast food chain for burgers and shakes, but this is NOT related to Checkers/Rallys. This is a sit down, homestyle restaurant. We walked in and were seated immediately. The decor is all paintings done by a local artist and all for sale. Very... local family restaurant aesthetic. We ordered the country fried steak served with gravy and onions, the grilled cabbage, and the mashed potatoes with gravy, as well as the hamburger steak with gravy and onions and added mushrooms, and sides of black eyed peas and fried okra. The gravy was great, the mashed potatoes were homemade, but just a bit more creamy/whipped than I generally like them and the country fried steak was very good and crispy on the outside/tender on the inside. Very good. I will say that I was a bit unprepared for the grilled cabbage. The menu just calls it "grilled cabbage". It was equal parts chopped cabbage and bacon. I eat bacon very sparingly (I get migraines), so even though it isn't my favorite, I will eat it. But if you don't eat pork, get migraines, or don't like bacon, it didn't say anywhere on the listing that the side dish was 50% bacon. Cabbage is probably my favorite vegetable, but I wouldn't order it again because of the subsequent migraine. Brother liked the hamburger steak and said that the mushrooms absolutely made the dish. The fried okra was good, but the black eyed peas could have been heated straight out of the can. That isn't to say that they weren't good, but definitely nothing special. Our server was very nice, but definitely don't come by when you are in a hurry. It took around 40 minutes to get our food after ordering, so it was a good thing we weren't starving. It was pretty darn good (and not so greasy that I had to immediately run to the bathroom afterwards, which does happen sometimes) so we will probably be back in the near future.

It's been a long time. It was really good tonight. Cole slaw is homemade and delicious. Flounder was good, no bones.

Well after her college graduation, we decided we should finally stop in and enjoy a meal. I called ahead of time, since it was about 7 of us, to see if there would be a long wait. The first girl I spoke with told me that they wouldn't be able to accommodate us and then put me on hold. Either the call disconnected or she hung up but I called back again and thankfully, the lady that answered told me that they'd be able to accommodate us with no issues. Once we arrived, there was a table available for us so we were seated right away. The staff were very friendly. Once we put in our drink orders, we were able to enjoy the buffet or order from their menu. We all decided on the buffet. The buffet included fried chicken, fried catfish, greens, green beans, potatoes, corn, ham, deviled eggs, a salad bar, brisket mac & cheese, lima beans, carrot soufflé and desserts, among other things. The food was delicious!!! I'm not a huge buffet person but the food was seasoned like a southern person was back there making it lol! My family thoroughly enjoyed their meals and we all went back for seconds lol. It did take some time for the server to refill our drinks but they explained that they were short staffed so we understood. The buffet is only open on the weekends, I believe, but it was only $19.99! Can you believe that?! If I lived closer, I would probably go to Virginia Diner once a month lol. The restaurant was very clean and the dining area was very spacious. The restaurant includes a nut shop when you walk in, so we all were able to grab a few different types of nuts before leaving. If you're in the area, definitely stop in! If the buffet was that good, I'm sure their other meals are even better!!!

I was sitting in the parking lot of a large chain breakfast pulled up Yelp to see what I might be missing. Glad wasn't lazy...15 mins later I was in the parking lot for 185! If you haven't been to 185 on Little Florida Road in Poquoson, you are seriously missing out. This charming, family-owned neighborhood gem is everything a great local restaurant should be and then some. The moment I walked through the door, I felt it. You're not just a customer here; you're a guest. The welcome was immediate and genuine and set the tone for the whole experience before I even sat down. I ordered the brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries, and wow, it delivered. I was surprised the blackberry chipotle sauce worked BERY WELL! The brisket was tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Paired with perfectly seasoned sweet potato fries, it was the kind of meal that sticks with you long after you leave. This isn't reheated, thrown-together food, you can taste the love and craft in every bite. It was like Woman Power this morning with all ladies from front to back. Their whole vibe was awesome from the front of the house to the back. I have to give a very special shoutout to my waitress, Tiffany... she was absolutely AWESOME. Attentive, personable, and full of good energy, she made the whole experience even better. The kind of server who makes you feel like you're dining with a friend. Looks like 185 was ranked #87 on Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants in 2023, and after my visit, I completely understand why. The owners obviously had a beautiful vision and it is being executed incredibly...to my benefit today! Five stars, without question. When I am back in the area....I'll be back, and I'm bringing my wife will tell everyone I know.

It was clearly a local favourite and there was quickly a lineup with people willing and expecting to wait. The service was quick and friendly. The food was good home cooked meals and came out quickly. I had brisket scramble and it was delicious. It needed the sweet compote to balance the richness. My wife had the biscuits with gravy and eggs were good. There was lots of sausage in the country gravy. The cheese grits were tasty. Overall the food was very good and a solid experience. Since I live with a chef who cooks this quality of food often, I probably wouldn't drive here, however if we were in the area I'd definitely stop here and try other items as well.

As for me the Spicy Sausage Omelette was really really good. The sausage had a bite of heat but nothing crazy. Not sure what they used but don't stop - it was that good. We both also had Sweet Teas. We were warned from the start - they are dark and REAL sweet. Which for me was perfect. As for the service: there was one lady (dam forgot her name) taking care of all the guest and she did great. When I say taking care of - I mean everything. Bussing tables, sitting folks, taking orders, and cashing out. Again she was wonderful! The place is neat just like many have said before me. Old 80's type stuff on the walls and tables. Now let me address something that some past Yelpers clearly have an issue with. There are small indications of the owners political views within the location. Nothing crazy at all and unless you really look for it you won't notice. Some past yelpers I who clearly don't agree used this to bust down their Yelp review. That's ridiculous. If the owner wants to voice their opinion- they have every right. It's their place - with their money on the line and their time vested. They clearly treated every guest wonderfully and that's all you should really focused on. So looking for a very good meal (breakfast) at a nice little joint - go on in and enjoy. I'm sure we will be back and might even shoot for the lunch menu next time.

As you walk in you note the feel of it being a converted diner made to look like a country place. You grab your own menu, seat yourself, and walk up to the bar/register when ready to order. If the first time, you need a minute to get your bearings. Food ordered (3% fee is not using the cash "discount" FYI, pretty common around here and absurd given these OBX prices). Drinks are self serve. Some coke products and excellent tea. This was the end of breakfast around 10:30/11, so it was empty. Service was pretty quick. (they bring it to the table). I thought the breakfast pricing was fair. Shrimp and grits for $12, etc. Especially for the portion sizes. Two things I didn't care for. -The ceilling tiles were crazy dirty and stained and the flor light bulbs were uncovered. -The shrimp and grits needs a re-do. It's huge, with a base of grits, ladels of bacon gravy, and about 5 shrimp and cheddar cheese. It's more like a shrimp, grits, gravy, cheese casserole. I would have much rather had a base of grits, the gravy scooped in the middle with shrimp stuck in it, and topped with cheese. Even with all that you'd think there would be flavor. It was kind of bland minus the occasionally greasy/burnt bacon piece. Also, the shrimp were flavorful but over-cooked and tail on, which is traditional--but in the casserole were a pain in the butt to get the tail off/cut. I know they can do good flavors and plates. My spouse's chicken biscut...omg the hand-breaded chicken was fantastic! My son's baked apples were to die for. You Philly visitors will be happy to see scrapples on the menu - yuck. All in, I would repeat and stick to chicken and the chicken coop.
