Really cool spot, we were from out of the state, So I think this restaurant has a lot to offer for out-of-towners. You can tell upon entrance that they have a lot of regulars, and people know you there by name. The food and the portions were really big. Listen, don't go here expecting an Maculate, table or floor- you can tell It's been around forever, probably not the cleanest, but the food is gonna be good. It also didn't break the bank for a family of 5, which I'm appreciative of. enjoy The décor that was pretty interesting as well.

Went here on a weekday morning for breakfast and it was crowded! We did not have to wait and they sat us right away. We ordered off the kids menu as well as the regular breakfast menu. The food was delicious and it came quickly. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and it did not disappoint. They came around regularly for coffee and beverage refills. The décor was so cool. They had a retro dinner feel with Hess cars as décor. You do not want to miss Shortys when you are in town!

Food came quickly for us. This is where the locals hang out. I enjoyed the special of three eggs cooked medium, Virginia ham, grits, and the best biscuit. Hubby got a ham and cheese omelette. Happy and full. Glad we're locals!

Unbelievable breakfast!! Beware you will hit a wall and wont be able to finish it all. So good!!!!

    Fish sandwich with fries

I came here for lunch after seeing it on tv and it exceeded my expectations in every way. I ordered the fried fish sandwich which tasted fresh, well seasoned and delicious! The portions are generous. I requested the fries to be extra crispy and they were so perfect! The server, Jocelyn made our experience worth the five stars and more. She is a friendly, kind and professional. I highly recommend!

It's been a while since we had eaten here and everything was still great from food, to service to the decor! This time around I tried the grilled cheese and it was yummy! The only thing is that the bathroom was a little unkept and I feel like the whole place could use a good scrub down.

Solid diner with ambitious menu. The large space has a noticeable retro checkerboard floor and is decorated with vintage type stuff, has a kitchy feel about it. An Elvis Presley statue presides over the main room. The sammies are large and well made. Am impressed by the fried catfish sammie , a real winner. The potato salad and coleslaw are both excellent. The Italian sub comes heated--and that threw me. Never had that done before, prefer it room temp. Portions are generous. Requested a booth (with many available) but seated at a table instead; annoyed me a bit. Overall, good food is found here.

Classic little diner with quick friendly service and delicious homestyle food. Prices are reasonable and food is fresh, I'd recommend it over any chain breakfast spot any day. It's not fancy. It's not fat free. It's just the way it used to be!

We came here for breakfast after hearing the buzz around this restaurant and we are glad we did. Home style cooking at its best.

Friends took us here for brunch. This is a casual place with good service (by Shaniqua). I ordered the tuna melt, which was delicious. The tuna salad was quite creamy. It was served on Texas toast. My husband had the Cuban sandwich, which was also delicious, although it wasn't served on true Cuban bread but a sub roll. The sides were good too. I'm giving this only 4 stars, as the women's bathroom was pretty nasty.

I eat lunch here several times a year, and I ALWAYS GET the half pound burger. Think I'm ready to venture out and try something else. I'm leaning towards the Italian sub or the Philly, but what would be your recommendation?

If you like the Burger, then your next step is the Philly. It's close enough that it sets you up. I love the Philly.

I'm planning to go here with my family this Saturday. But why is there no take home for the kids menu??? My son is two, I highly doubt he'll eat half of the food all in one sitting...

I go there a lot. Just ask your server. I am sure they will pack up anything you want to take hone 😉. Great place!

However, I would not recommend the brownie and chocolate sundae dessert. The brownie and cookie were cold and hard, which made the dessert disappointing. On the positive side, the carrot cake was huge and definitely worth sharing -- easily enough for 3-4 people. The service was excellent as well. Our waiter was very attentive throughout the meal and made sure everything was taken care of. Overall, Second Street American delivers great food variety, strong service, and a family-friendly atmosphere, with just a few misses on dessert.

Simple decor, very friendly (Greek owned) staff and delicious food with so many options. Our server, Essence was hilarious and made the meal even better. She brought a carafe of coffee to the table and they even had flavored creamers in addition to the regular. I love that they have a variety of jellies on the table and even honey if you ask for it. I had the banana nut (they use pecans) pancakes which were so fluffy and perfect. Hubby was in Heaven with his order. He got the 2+2+2 waffle with scrambled eggs (so light and fluffy) sausage links, and apple topping which was homemade (the apples had some crunch to them instead of being mushy and from a can). He was full but couldn't resist getting a southern biscuit with honey.

I don't remember her name because I'm horrible but she had ice cream Fourth of July earrings. Which was also cute. Can't say that for the hostess sadly which had an opposite attitude and didn't address anyone but to seat you. The food was good, the breakfast was filling and the pancakes were sweet but not OVERLY sweet. Everything was cooked very well. My partner had the breakfast burrito and she just didn't like that the peppers were not cooked and the cheese was too much - like one bite had all cheese. But overall it was well liked. I'd 100% go back and try out other menu items for the vibe. Or have my yummy breakfast. The older gentleman who cashed us out was also very nice, seemed to be in charge, and helping out everyone else we observed from our table.

The German Dog had a great combination of sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard, with plenty of topping in every bite. The corn dog was golden and crisp on the outside with a juicy hot dog inside. The menu has a lot of creative choices beyond ordinary hot dogs, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. The restaurant also has a welcoming, family-owned feel that makes the experience even better. A fun local spot with great food and plenty of personality. Let's see how this stop turned out. We were able to get a table during lunch time where there was a good crowd on hand. Since it was the 4th, I expected there would be a few more. The staff was pretty busy taking care of diners and orders ready for takeout. It was a little warm inside, but it wasn't a surprise given the weather was really hot. And there was a fan literally behind is blowing out much needed air. The special they had for the 4th was $2.50 corn dogs and $2.50 PBR beer. We said no to beer, but couldn't resist corn dogs. My order consisted of two of them and a small order of cheese curds. Sophia ordered two corn dogs and a Roadhouse hot dog. This was the first time in a long time I'me had corn dogs so I couldn't resist given the special. And boy did they deliver. I actually started to get full after eating my first one. They were really good and well cooked. And great call to add cheese curds to the meal. Tasted great especially with the sauce. Sophia enjoyed her selections and had leftovers to take home as well. There you have it. Another great lunch for the two of us. We'll be back soon :)
