This is my second and last visit to the Yorktown restaurant. The first visit was a door dash delivery order. I took into consideration that the food was being delivered and did not knock the food temp. I got the shortys special and full cakes. The home fries tasted as if they had been cooked yesterday and reheated. the over easy eggs ended up being well done, not runny yolk. The pancakes were fine. Tried the hotel breakfast ... wait was too long/food poor/service 'overworked' NOT AT shortys! We searched out a local diner place close to Williamsburg with ez parking! The staff was really nice and professional , super varied menu in this olde tyme diner. I love a Cubano sandwich so why not a cubano omelet! It was a hit The choco pancake was gigantic and tasty (we travel with our own real maple syrup) ... my side of grits and fluffy biscuit topped it off. Solid diner with ambitious menu. The large space has a noticeable retro checkerboard floor and is decorated with vintage type stuff, has a kitchy feel about it. An Elvis Presley statue presides over the main room. The sammies are large and well made. Am impressed by the fried catfish sammie , a real winner. The potato salad and coleslaw are both excellent. The Italian sub comes heated--and that threw me. Never had that done before, prefer it room temp. Portions are generous. Requested a booth (with many available) but seated at a table instead; annoyed me a bit. Overall, good food is found here. read more

It's not fancy, it's not fat-free, and it's just the way they want it to be. This diner is literally a throwback. There was a kitschy Elvis statue, waitresses in short skirts with tights, and very few green menu items. However, it understands the assignment--a wide variety of diner items cooked with speed, butter, and care. A very large group of family members left full and content. A few even found oatmeal and lettuce-heavy items to keep them at bay. Win-win. read more

Friends took us here for brunch. This is a casual place with good service (by Shaniqua). I ordered the tuna melt, which was delicious. The tuna salad was quite creamy. It was served on Texas toast. My husband had the Cuban sandwich, which was also delicious, although it wasn't served on true Cuban bread but a sub roll. The sides were good too. I'm giving this only 4 stars, as the women's bathroom was pretty nasty. read more

Holy cow did we get lucky finding this spot! We stopped in a Saturday morning just before 11 and they were slammed. We opted for 3 seats at the counter and so glad we did. The service was fast & friendly despite the hustle and bustle. I loved my county fried steak and eggs, would go back again for that in a heartbeat. A solid 4.5 and to think we almost went to Cracker Barrel. Grateful for the long line at CB that had us second think our choice. Found Shorty's instead. An old time diner full of locals and and a happy smiling waitstaff. Pictures of locals and celebrities lined the walls, along with a life size Elvis statue. Breakfast was a home run. I got 3 perfectly cooked over easy eggs with bacon and hash browns and the Mrs got a 3 egg cheese omelet with grits. Hot coffee washed it down. Just sorry we found this place at the end of our week in Williamsburg and not sooner. Would have loved to try lunch or dinner, some folks ordered the fried fish special @ 10:45 am and almost made me regret my breakfast selection. If we find ourselves in Williamsburg again Shorty's is a must for lunch or dinner and maybe breakfast again. read more

Visited the Burg last week and stopped at my favorite breakfast restaurant- Shorty's Diner. Instead of my usual order of a Russian omelette, I built my own omelette - bacon, cheese and mushrooms, cooked softly as ordered. Hash browns and a light and moist biscuit came with the three egg omelette. Enjoyed every bite! As always, I was seated and served quickly. OMG! This is the BEST DINER EVER! The restaurant is so cute and the waitresses are amazing so kind and friendly and so sweet and fast and best service! shortys diner is the best!! I love it!! went again today and I got a veggie omelette and a biscuit and home fries. FANTASTIC!! The last time i went a few months ago, i got the blueberry pancakes and those were also FANTASTIC. I love the service here as well...it is quick and the waiters and waitresses all seem like family. they all seem to enjoy their jobs and one of them says she is 28 and has been working there since she was 17 and loves it!! First, I'd like to say that our server, Vanya, was absolutely incredible and when I got home and looked at the receipt I realized I did not tip her enough for her great service. I promise I'll make up for it! She was beyond accommodating and attentive. The decor is a retro diner and is perfect for the feel. They do have a few booths and otherwise it is chairs and tables. Seating is a bit crowded but that's because so many people enjoy this place! Our food came out hot and flavor was on point. Portions are normal to large. Prices are extremely reasonable. Very poor experience at Shorty's today! No opportunity to even try their food as the cook WALKED OUT mid-morning on a busy Sunday! Our party waited for nearly 30 minutes and noticed that 4 tables became available yet no one was being seated. Upon asking, we were told that they were avoiding seating people as their cook quit and they were in a tough spot. It was unclear if they were even going to inform the customers who were waiting! The family we were visiting indicated that service has been declining at Shorty's as the owner opened a second restaurant in Richmond and diverted the reliable waitstaff to the new restaurant. It's unfortunate that Shorty's has not continued to support the Williamsburg restaurant. We enjoyed brunch at an alternate location this morning. Maybe Shorty's can get their act together and continue to effectively serve their customers in the future. read more

My family was visiting the Williamsburg area and we decided to try this place. There are a ton of breakfast places to choose from here and this place stood out so we decided to try it out. Everybody liked their food and the staff were incredibly welcoming and kind. The ambiance of the restaurant was cool with all the different pictures and a giant statue of The King. I have never eaten to a real deal diner other than the commercialized Silver Diner. So I don't know what to expect but to hope that it will be awesome. We ate here on a Sunday, lots of people already waiting for their seats. It took about 10 minutes for us to be called. Our server came to greet us and took our order, drinks first, then next round she took our entrees. She's very nice and made sure our orders were right. The wait for our food to come out was not bad at all. The food was great and their pancakes were HUGE! I love their pancakes, the texture was great and taste was awesome. When we asked our hotel front desk attendant where we should go for breakfast, before we finished the question she said "Shorty's". We discovered why she was so enthusiastic. The wait staff were amazingly friendly and swift and the food was excellent. My husband had the Monte Cristo breakfast. We've had several versions of this breakfast sandwich, but Shorty's by far, is the best. I had their eggs Benedict's which was very tasty with very generous portions of potatoes. Local diner where all the locals gather to eat and have some food. We were seated at the bar and a very known man sat beside me asking me where I lived, to which I replied. He said he had lived there for five years and then built his own house and is happier at his own house except that he doesn't get any traffic so he comes here to socialize. He seemed happy socializing and was wandering about talking with the locals and with the staff so we knew he was defo a regular. He then made his way back to us and said his grandchildren were at his house and he surely hoped that they would be gone by the time he returned! We all laughed at that! We have been to this diner before but were stuck in a corner booth w/o service so it was refreshing to have fast service and to be next to a regular patron. Hubby was steered towards an omelette so he got the cuban omelette while I got Shorty's special which is three eggs, Virginia ham, a biscuit, and hash browns. Yummy. We had gone to the Scandinavian festival at the King of Glory church beforehand so that's why we ate breakfast here. We visited Shorty's Diner this morning and had a nice time. The inside is very cute with a 1950s diner theme. Lots of red and white checkers with red accents. It was also very crowded and loud. The pancakes were very dense and hard to eat, but the flavors were good. The savory food we got to go with our sweet pancakes were very good. The coffee was poured very hot (don't try to sip it right away) and they only had half and half to mix in. The servers were all friendly and attentive. They flipped tables so quickly so the wait times probably aren't bad. Our server also gave me a fresh cup of coffee for the road, which was nice and unexpected. read more

One of the better breakfast restaurants we visited while in Williamsburg. Service was excellent, did not have to ask for coffee refills - our cups were filled before we asked. I got the Biscuits & Sausage Gravy which Is one of my favorite dishes for breakfast. This was the best Biscuits and Gravy I've ever had. My personal favorite was from a restaurant in New Orleans but Shorty's now is the number one Biscuit And Gravy choice for me.
