Dinning Experience: 2/5 Coffee: 4/5 Food: 3/5 Prior to eating at this location, we had died across the street and thought it'd be nice to give it a try based on the outward experience and the folks sitting out in front at the sidewalk tables. It looked to have a good vibe, but once we walked in, we realized it was a coffee shop that served food. You have to get in line grab a menu and place your order. Any coffee, water or juice juices are delivered on the right side of the bar and the food is delivered on the left side of the bar. And what I mean delivered that's where you have to go to pick it up. The food is served on Small paper plates so you will lose some of your food as you try to cut or move it.. I ordered the breakfast platter which was scrambled eggs, choice of meat, potatoes, and toaste. My partner had the cheese omelette with sourdough toast. There was nothing special or extraordinary about the food. With the small paper plates that they use food easily fell onto the table top. They don't offer water in a cup, but rather you can buy a bottle of water. If you didn't realize that after you ordered, you have to go back and get in line so that you purchase your water. (We assumed they had water/cups to use). We left felling unsatisfied. read more

Busy and just ok. This is a very popular place in Williamsburg and many people love it. There will almost always be a line and you'll find many, many students hanging out here. The soy chai latte I got was pretty good, but I came back a few days later and got a soy latte, which got cold very quickly and the flavoring had sunken to the bottom. Such a cute environment. It's a bustling local coffee shop and tons of seating. When I entered, there was a huge line, but once I ordered and got my drink, it was quick. I got a Vanilla Chai Latte and I kid you not, this was probably the best chai latte I've ever had. It tasted like I was drinking a cookie, but in the best way possible. Not overbearingly sweet, but the right balance. The only downside is the long line, but in my opinion, it's worth the wait. Would recommend! read more

My iced latte with honey was remade since the first time, the honey had not been dissolved in hot water or the espresso resulting in a goopy presentation. Small place so don't be in a hurry, settle in and enjoy the local charm. The egg on my toast was slightly runny and the avocado was a thin spread on the sourdough. Aromas Cafe is a true gem in downtown Colonial Williamsburg. It's a consistently bustling spot, so guests should expect a wait of about 15 to 30 minutes for their food after placing an order. The line to order can wrap around the coffeehouse, but it moves surprisingly quickly, giving you a chance to decide whether you'd like to find a cozy spot indoors or a seat outside. The cafe has a wonderfully decorated, cozy interior with great music playing. Once at the counter, I ordered the Aromas BLT with a fried egg, and it was generously sized and delicious. Having a fried egg made it feel much heartier than a typical breakfast sandwich from other places. Additionally their Portobello mushroom burger with basil pesto & balsamic vinaigrette is also fantastic. Their coffee selection is very hot and features a wide variety of flavors, boldness, intensity, and richness. I really like the Magnus coffee for its richness and boldness and also Jamaican Me Crazy coffee too. Throughout the visit, the staff was friendly and clearly working hard to get orders out as quickly as possible. Given its proximity to William & Mary and its hearty menu of breakfast and lunch items, it's no surprise that Aromas is busy all day. Aroma is a warm and friendly café, with nice dark wood where historic drawings are displayed. You order at the counter and they call you when your food is ready. We found a turnaround time to be pretty quick considering how busy it was. Even though it was clearly busy it didn't feel busy or noisy. The portions for breakfast were very generous. I had the English muffin with ham, Swiss and eggs, and it was very tasty. My wife had the traditional breakfast platter with scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and fresh bread. The potatoes had a great flavor and not overcooked. We peered at dishes other customers were having, and the portions were just as generous and again everything looked fresh. My only gripe is that the food was a bit cold from the counter - I didn't notice if there heat lamps. It's all impressive because there can be long lines and yet they still manage to get the orders right. And surprisingly fast. We wished we lived in the area. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and like most cafes you order and pick up your food and drinks at the counter. The tables are cramped together, but the overall aesthetic is pleasant. The fruit cup served alongside the quiche contained fruit of mostly the perfect ripeness and sweetness. The hubs ordered the burrito which was filled with southwestern chicken and fluffy eggs. The exterior wrap was overcooked so it was crispy and dry. However, the chicken was tender and flavorful. The hit of the hot sauce makes this breakfast burrito ideal for on the go and hangover ha ha. The nitro cold brew was velvety and smooth. The strawberry refresher was sweet and cold. Long as you don't mind standing in crazy long lines, this is a fantastic coffee stop. It's so good that the lines are long. A worth it trade off. I love the snickerdoodle latte. It's my favorite cookie so it stands to reason that it would be my favorite latte. This one does not disappoint. Perhaps sweeter than most would like because you can barely taste the coffee. I'm not a fan of bitter drinks so it's perfect for me. Tried the vegan gluten free truffles. They were hit or miss. Two were good and two were overly sweet. Spouse had the "true" macchiato. It comes in a small cup and is only half full. I found that odd but spouse states it's correct? Reason is that they do not have a short cup. Either way, he said it's good espresso and likes it. I usually stop here in the mornings on the way to school for coffee. Although sometimes I'll add a little sugar&milk into the coffee, I almost always drink coffee black. However it is only up until now at the time of this review that the coffee has tasted great. I don't know what has happened at Aroma's lately but the coffee has been lackluster. I can only take a few sips before I have to pour out my coffee. Maybe it's bad water, dirty equipment, over extraction, stale beans, or etc? I'm keen to give Aroma's coffee one or two more tries before I have to call it quits. :( read more

I'd heard such good things about this coffeehouse and with the "breakfast" in my hotel severely lacking, I looked forward to heading to the shop to start my day. It's a cute typical shop with a good amount of seating both inside and outside. There are printed menus to pass down the line, specials written in chalk, and enticing pastries on display. Several of the offerings drew my attention (especially the longer I stood in line), but I was ready with my order when I reached the cashier: a brown sugar latte on ice, the gluten-free coffee cake on display, and the special grits topped with green onion, cheese, crumbled bacon, and a fried egg. The cashier was distracted and seemed to have a hard time hearing me--made evident when I did not actually receive the grits special, but it instead just plain grits with cheese. We've supported Aromas for a very long time, but lately have been disappointed in price, consistency, and quality. Breakfast sandwiches used to come with fruit and now it's just the sandwich (which would be fine if it wasn't for the hefty price, and there's no price break for getting no meat on the sandwich, either.) Salads and entrees for lunch and dinner are lackluster and there's an upcharge for everything. The chais we order have always been great, but they've become inconsistent and have been coming out barely room temperature. They won't give you tap water and make you buy bottled water. Just a few things that we've noticed over the past 5-10 visits that have been disappointing for a place we used to love. read more
