We were looking for a good breakfast place. The Williamsburg travel guide highly recommended the Capitol Pancake House. When we pulled into the parking lot it was full. That's a good sign that the food is good! We had chocolate chip pancakes, peanut butter and banana both of which were real hits with our teenager grandchildren. My wife had cheese blintzes which she loved. She ate the whole thing. She said they were wonderful. The best she has had. My daughter had Philly cheesesteak omelette with a side of grits, all was delicious. I had a Swiss cheese and ham omelette which was great with bacon on the side. The serve was good and the food was hot. We all recommend that you stop in for breakfast or lunch. This is local spot so you know it's good! Enjoy your food and enjoy your family. The pancakes here were yummy!! I just ordered a side of pancakes with apple topping and a side of bacon. With the 20% off punch card, I paid under $10. It was good! This is an older establishment. It shows its age. The pancakes were good, the bacon was mediocre. I didn't get the best pieces. They have gluten free options, so if you are looking for that they have plenty! So Glad We Came! We were torn between Capital Pancake House and Cracker Barrel, but I'm so glad we chose this place. We came during the breakfast rush, so there was a bit of a wait--but nothing too bad, and it was totally worth it. Our waitress, Francis, was warm, welcoming, and kind from the moment we sat down. It's dishonest buisness practice, the audacity to ask for an additional tip at the end, just deepens my belief that this is just blatantly taking advantage of people who don't read their bills. The food was average, the portions were average, you dropped off a pot of coffee at the table. I understand people have begun tipping less, but personally, I think it's about time. Dishonesty is a huge turnoff for me, and to be clear I paid my bill in full. Maybe it's becayse bringing a plate of food to my table isn't $4.50 worth of effort. Very disappointed with our experience at Capital Pancake House. We sat at our table for 10 minutes without anyone greeting us, offering drinks, or even acknowledging we were there. It felt like we were completely invisible. When we finally did interact with staff, the server was very nonchalant and seemed uninterested. Management did not appear concerned or eager to fix the situation, which made it even more frustrating. Customer service clearly was not a priority during our visit. We left without being served. We were visiting with family here in Williamsburg, VA and they were excited to bring us to the Capitol Pancake House. They told us the food was delicious and police and firemen loved to eat there. Everything that our family shared with us about the restaurant was true. The service was excellent, great customer service, the atmosphere was relaxing and the food was scrumptious. My son is a police officer and my brother is military and they enjoyed identifying all of the different service patches. Then we blessed with a BONUS!! We were picking up breakfast on our way to Busch Gardens from our campground to expedite fueling up our bellies outside the park. Our wait for a table was not too bad then once we were seated another wait. Our visit here had not started out well. In looking around, too, this place had not gotten a good cleaning in a while. After a time, a wipe down just is not enough. Our server, Kelly B., finally made it to our table and we were ready to order. Our grandson ordered a waffle with bacon and granddaughter ordered Little Pigs in a Blanket. My wife and I both ordered the Breakfast Sampler, one with grits and one with Home Fries, with a pancake on the side. Another long wait then the food finally arrived, the kids food was fine according to them but our food was cold, so another wait for Kelly to swing back by the table so we could tell her, and she offered to replace the cold food, this is always risky sending food back to the kitchen, but OK. After a while the food came back out, likely microwaved, but we really wanted to be on our way. We quickly ate and headed for the door, waiting one more time at the cashier to pay the tab. Granted that the restaurant was busy on a Friday morning and maybe they were working short, or if management understaffed for a Friday AM in the summer, shame on them. So we are fortunate to live close by, so we can come an go when it is not packed. Huge menu options, breakfast all day is a nice plus, however mimosa's are the biggest factor here. LOL My wife had the beef vegetable soup, and thank goodness she shared(thank ou), it was 5 star beef vegetable soup. She had a grilled cheese n fries and loved it. I think the fries are hand-cut. I had the ham n cheese omelette add mushrooms with fried potatoes and toast. The omelette was humongous and very tasty, a lot of mushrooms and ham. Fried potatoes are not my go to, but they were so good. (I prefer shredded taters) The service was very good and our server was very social and very prompt as well. The service was great , they were all so friendly and we loved that when you walk in they have patches from first responders from all around the country. My group of friends, kids and I came here a couple Sundays ago to end our weekend trip to Williamsburg. I found this place when searching for gluten-free food for 1 of the children. Needless to say they had a plethora of breakfast items for us all to enjoy. No reservation required, wait was about 30 minutes for our party of 14. Everyone ordered what they wanted and every person, even the toddler, cleaned their plate! The best part of this breakfast spot is the fact they have over 20 types of mimosas. The ladies and I were in heaven! I opted for the sangria mimosa while the others enjoyed huge glasses of mimosa flights. They really give you your $ worth with face-sizes pancakes, huge portions and larges glasses. The owner was really sweet & accommodating to us all. This was the first "pancake house" we tried since moving to Williamsburg. We were not impressed at all. There are a lot to choose from so will be trying some of the others before returning here. Food Is Great and most of the wait staff are very friendly. However I would not recommend going here on holiday weekends and after 10 on Sundays. Their service is normally quick with the exception of these timeframes. Its gets very crowded and service slows way down. I don't normally leave reviews because I don't like the idea of my opinion taking money from hardworking people. However, this place does not want, nor do they care about you as a customer if you have a group of less than three, seated for over an hour waiting for an omelette and three over easy eggs with bacon and toast. Not to mention the extremely unprofessional manager who stands by the host desk and stares daggers at you while you sit and wait for your food. Everytime I go to Williamsburg, I make it a point to go to the Capitol Pancake House. Their pancakes are a country mile above the rest (and I have been to all of them, but I won't mention their names). At each one, I ordered the same thing, Pancakes and Eggs over hard. What I really like about a great pancake house is when you order pancakes and they don't try to hide them under whipped cream or powdered sugar. All the others I went to did this. The servers are polite, exactly what would be expected of Southern Hospitality. My first visit to the Capitol Pancake House was shortly after they opened 25 years ago, and it left such a great impression on me that I made sure to put it on my "hit list". They do have "The Best Coffee In Town". This is fact, not fiction. If you are going to Williamsburg, please make sure to visit the Capitol Pancake House. Just make sure to go on a weekday. It is packed on the weekends. It is a little out of the way, but only a few miles from downtown Williamsburg, and well worth the 5-10 minute drive. You will not be disappointed! The Capital Pancake House used to be my favorite restaurant for breakfast and lunch in Williamsburg. However, when I ate there recently I was disapointed. The food had no flavor. Their hash browns used to taste like they had just been cooked on the grill: hot, oniony, and delicious. This time the potatoes tasted like they had been taken out of the freezer and heated up in the microwave.
