Pancake with apple cinnamon

Everything was delicious. Great service. Our wait staff was wonderful (too bad I didn't get her name). Waiting time is very long, both to get table and to get food (maybe it's because we came here Sunday's morning).

Mimosa

So we are fortunate to live close by, so we can come an go when it is not packed. Huge menu options, breakfast all day is a nice plus, however mimosa's are the biggest factor here. LOL My wife had the beef vegetable soup, and thank goodness she shared(thank ou), it was 5 star beef vegetable soup. She had a grilled cheese n fries and loved it. I think the fries are hand-cut. I had the ham n cheese omelette add mushrooms with fried potatoes and toast. The omelette was humongous and very tasty, a lot of mushrooms and ham. Fried potatoes are not my go to, but they were so good. (I prefer shredded taters) The service was very good and our server was very social and very prompt as well. Thank You for the great service!

Capital Pancakes house is a staple in the Williamsburg area. The service was great , they were all so friendly and we loved that when you walk in they have patches from first responders from all around the country. My husband is a first responder so he donated his badge to there wall so I'm a way a part of us will forever be a part of there story . The ambiance is a typical pancake house nothing crazy but there food was really good especially there French toasts and there eggs and let me not forget to mention there world famous coffee it was really good .

Eggs Benedict

A solid diner restaurant with quality comfort food. Generally not the place to visit if you want elaborate veggie choices. The Eggs Benedict was very good and about half of my calories for the entire waking day. They give large portions. MY GRADE: B.

Solid place for breakfast. I ordered the chicken and waffles and biscuits and they were all fantastic. We visited for a birthday brunch and handle the table well. However some of the other food, ie the bacon and sausage gravy weren't fan favorites. Our server was nice and tried her best to ensure things turned out okay. It's pretty spacious and loud due to all the tables.

French toast

Great service and they were fast at giving food. The feel was happy. Clean and busy. Large portions

Garden Omelette with toast and fruit. This omelette gets 5 stars for sure. Very delicious and great portion size.

This place was fair at best. Grits were tasteless and omelette was just okay. Service was very good but would not visit again.

Service was difficult and the food was tasteless. Not enough servers for a busy Sunday. I expected better.

I would recommend getting the mustard drizzle on the side, just to be sure it is to your taste. We also had the Crab/Corn Chowder soup. You must try it! Super delicious and flavorful. The onion rings were also very good/hand breaded. Service was excellent and the manager stopped at our table to check on us. The atmosphere is comfortable and ambiance is nice/quiet and clean. The menu also has so many food options, making it easy to find something for everyone. The food overall was great and very enjoyable. However, I would not recommend the brownie and chocolate sundae dessert. The brownie and cookie were cold and hard, which made the dessert disappointing. On the positive side, the carrot cake was huge and definitely worth sharing -- easily enough for 3-4 people. The service was excellent as well. Our waiter was very attentive throughout the meal and made sure everything was taken care of. Overall, Second Street American delivers great food variety, strong service, and a family-friendly atmosphere, with just a few misses on dessert.

We have not not dined, or even spent much time at CW since the pandemic. After a hike behind Bassett Hall my wife and I enjoyed lunch. We arrived at noon and were promptly seated in an empty room. Around 20 minutes later the first floor was full. The atmosphere was cool and authentic. Nothing has changed since my previous visit. Our friendly waitress got menus and waters. I started off with an Apple Jack Old Fashioned utilizing Virginia Gentleman bourbon. We reviewed items on the menu that may have been served in the period. We started with apps. I got a salad, or "To Make a Fine Sallet". My wife crab croquettes. They pushed out first and we enjoyed. For mains. I got the pork shank, or "To Stew a Shoat in the French Way". My wife had "Chicken Hash", it was like a thick soup. The plating was beautiful and the taste matched. The old fashioned was disappointing because it was so weak. Service was decent, but not much attention. For dessert I got the bread pudding and wife chocolate tart. Both were outstanding! The bill was dropped on the table. It was around $150 w/ tip. Although pricey we had fun and felt like tourist just an hour from home. I would recommend.

I ordered the peanut soup which was very creamy and rich. I enjoyed it very much. For a main, I ordered the pork shank which was very dense meat on a large bone served on top of what appeared to be polenta with pomegranate seeds. This was a very filling dish and I could not finish it. It didn't have a lot of flavor. I finished off with a pecan pie, which was delicious. During dinner, we were briefly serenaded by a performer, dressed in period garb. Although I wasn't rushed, it seemed that it was a very brief dinner with the food coming out very quickly. The tavern was what I expected to be with candlelight and decorations from an earlier century. There was just something missing with the vibe. My husband ordered the onion pie and the bread pudding.

While we can't promise *you* won't have a similar experience, we can say that in this case the executive chef personally responded promptly to a respectful polite email and then handled it all very appropriately once informed. And for that alone, we revise to 4 stars. Perhaps ours was an isolated incident. Regardless, a big thank you to the executive chef for the response and swift refund. Much appreciated. We *think* any executive chef would want to KNOW what was going on, perhaps in their absence, right? YMMV. Thanks again. ORIGINAL 1 star review: New Years Eve dinner at Terrace Room. The photo shows "pan-seared" scallops with a ... risotto-like substance. Heh. $50. Uh huh. Scallops: No sear. Super chewy. Hard to even cut. Risotto was like mushy oatmeal stuff and zero seasoning or flavor. Maybe something was wrong in the kitchen, I dunno. Ack. We both ordered this and left most of it. Also a bottle of wine (white) that had to be chilled in front of us for a while before the server could/would pour it. Hm. $110 for that. Note: the *service* was excellent! It is never a waiter's "fault" when the food is awful. We tipped the excellent waiter accordingly, BTW. Just sharing our experience at this place on this particular night. Hope it helps. Be aware. Maybe it's "iffy."
